The Mwanawasa family distances itself from Patrick’s views

The family of the late President Levy Mwanawasa has described as misguided and immature attacks on President Banda by the late president’s son, Patrick.

The family has said that Patrick Mwanawasa’s comments in Tuesday’s Post Newspaper do not represent the views of the family.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Late President Mwanawasa’s sister Evelyn and his eldest daughter Miriam Mwanawasa.

The Mwanawasa family has declared its unwavering support to President Rupiah Banda and urged politicians to stop using youths in the country to push their political agenda.

They said that it will be folly for them to support anyone else in this year’s election because President Banda has continued to build on the promises of the late Dr Mwanawasa.

Patrick was on Tuesday quoted in the Post Newspaper, attacking President Banda’s leadership.

And Zambia Daily mail reported that former MMD Lusaka district secretary Michael Phiri has advised former President Mwanawasa’s son, Patrick, to desist from publicly attacking President Banda.

Mr Phiri said if Patrick has any issues to raise with the President, it would be wise for him to seek audience with the head of State instead of disparaging his leadership in the media.

He was reacting to a story in yesterday’s Post newspaper in which Patrick was quoted as saying President Banda’s government is brainwashing Zambians into believing that it is bringing development.

MrPhiri said Patrick should not allow himself to be used by selfish people to attack the head of State, but approach him and express his concerns in an amicable manner.

“While he has the freedom of expression and speech, he must be mindful of what he says in public. He is saying there is no development; doesn’t he have eyes to see? I beg the young man not to be used by other people,” he said.

Mr Phiri said if Patrick has failed to meet the President through the normal channels, he could use Mr Banda’s local and foreign trips to see him as he either departs or arrives.

“The President travels frequently on national duties. He could go to the airport to join those seeing him off or welcoming him back. President Banda would be the happiest person to see the son of his predecessor, his own son, and I am sure he would give him an appointment there and then,” he said.

Mr Phiri said if Patrick is experiencing problems because he is no longer living in State House, the best would be for him to meet the President and explain his situation.

Mr Phiri also urged Patrick to refrain from making alarming statements bordering on national security, which he cannot prove.

He said it was wrong for Patrick to accuse the authorities of ordering the killing of people in the recent unrest in Mongu and Mazabuka when he does not have evidence to back his claim.

  1. Does this guy have time to make statements? I thought he is always drinking and can not afford to look after his infant child. It is a sad day when the opposition start criticising the govt for bringing about development projects, that is when you see that they are devoid of ideas.

  2. The Mwanawasa’s should allow the young man Patrick to have his own opinions without feeling obligated to issue a statement to win favour with Bwezani Banda. Are they worried MMD will cancel the benefits they are receiving from GRZ?

    • Just looking at your pic says you are smart guy mate! These so called family members are just proving that they can be blind followers. Patrick’s opinion just hit the nail on it’s head. He’s right and big up to him!

Twanaka naba MMD; they are leaving this time. Their leadership is just too much of a joke!

    • I would have thought it was more to do with a truant loose canon in the family firing in all directions forgetting that his dad too was busy using GRZ vehicles to secure his election into state house.

  3. I was studying at the same university with Patrick in the UK and i know him to be very shallow and dull. The boy is so lazy that he never even finished his degree in Business Law, he failed twice and changed the course.  It makes me wonder why he is a headline maker at the post. Someone is paying this boy to make those statements. The boys knows nothing about about development, the only thing he is good at is drinking and girls.

  4. This guy is dellusional , His father was an icon, but in as much as he did well as a president, Other things being equal at one time he was not in the running to be the president, untill the ex president intervened. I think someone needs to tell him to get a job get some education , slap and wake up to reality. He is an emarassement, and is surrounded by people who are whispering words of comfort, on how he has a good political career.
I have no time for him, and If anything I despise him., He is nothing like my fiance and quiete frankly he should disspear and craw away. Thanks

  5. Too much drama in the Mwanawasa family. The young man was just airing his views. He didnt claim he was representing his family.Hence it was fooly for Mirriam and her Unty to rush to the press.I wonder when bootlicking altitudes will end pa Zed.

    • Exactly. Patrick aired views as an individual and not as a spokesperson for the Mwanawasa family. It is folly to expect all Zambians to have same views. Surely, some views will have to be different whether wrongly or correctly. Bootlicking is a barrier to development.

  6. Freedom of expression people. let the young man speak his mind. his old enough to understand these basic zed issues please. do not insult his intelligence or any of the youths. what projects is this man completing apart from him hijacking and taking credit for all what mwanwasa had started…..?

  7. # 5,what makes u write all that honestly?did u really read the article the young man wrote?he was exppressing  his views,an opinion for that matter.

  8. I love Mushota! She makes my day! No matter what the case is, she has to tell us that the sun shines in the darkest recesses of her fiance. I always get a good dose of laughter medicine from her blogs. Keep it up girl!
As for Patrick, anyone who gives former Presidents’ children an audience should, to borrow Mushota’s words, ‘disappear and craw(l) away.’ Zambia is not a monarchy!

  9. patrick is playing doudle standard. his father was a brain child of election induced development. banda inherited it from levy. why didt the young patrick speak out when his father was doimg the same during elections why didnt he speak when ftj sold houses at10 pin to put his father into state house and the famous cheap mealie meal from chani fisheries. the boy wants to make a name out of nothing. thats why tetamashimba advised him to concetrate on school and establish himselp and getover the president son hangover. he need psyco-social counselling. if his father didnt will much to him he should not blame it on RB. maybe his father new he is a useless child who cant make it on his own. their is nothing RB can do as the law is clear when someone dies with a will.

  10. “They said that it will be folly for them to support anyone else in this year’s election because President Banda has continued to build on the promises of the late Dr Mwanawasa.”

This is total rubbish as the main fight against corruption is dead!

  11. All these are signs of panic coming from the blind as bats supporters of a big nosed clown as he prepares for his last act. Michael Phiri is just a sleazy, slimy maggot with nothing to offer but the crap spewing out of his brainless utterances. He’s an idot and a fool just like Chifire, Lifwekelo, Siliya the local prostitute, Horny Shikapwasha, George Kunda, William Banda and many other MMD job seekers. All these embiciles would do anything for that fat humpty dumpty clown Rupiah Bozo Bamba to stay in power. This circus has been in town longer than the people budgeted for and now it’s time to vote them out.

  12. Patrick is old enough to contribute to national issues. He has satisfied all legal requirements even to stand as an MP. If he was speaking from parliament i don’t know what people would say.Compare what he said and what comes from presidential candidates Like Dr Cosmo Mumba and Siulapwa.who seems to be more analytical among the three.

  13. #8 Please change the record! Mwanawasa has been dead for close to three years now and you are still claiming everything the MMD party has achieved is because of him? Mwanawasa was a member of the MMD party and it is the party that is implementing the current projects we are seeing. In fact MMD has never stopped working from the time that the economic fortunes of the country improved. I guess for people like you who support a personal to holder party like perpetual fighting (pf) party,  collective party responsibility is a very alien concept. At the end of the day, who cares who came up with the idea of this or that development project? Surely at the end of the day the most important thing to focus on is the fact that development IS TAKING PLACE.

    • I agree with your assertion that what is being achieved is due to the MMD as a party and not an individual. I believe that should be the correct attitude and approach to multiparty politics. Sadly, this approach is alien in ALL political parties. All we hear is about Party Presidents having brought this, having done that, will do that, etc without reference to Party manifesto and indeed taking collective party responsibility. Chiluba claims HE brought multiparty politics, Banda says “I” have done this, Sata also says “I” and the same goes for HH.

  14. If a Journalist meets me on the road and asks for my view on development in Zambia, I am free to give my view. When i give my view, I am not representing anyone or my family, it is my view, the way i see things being done. I am surprised that the whole family has come up and issue a statement against Patrick. He was talking on his own behalf imwee tu mwana Mwanawasa.

  15. didn’t know that whatever stance he, or anyone for that matter, takes as an individual it has to be agreeable with the rest of the other family members. People tend to remember the individuals, not the tag-alongs. Go for it Patrick!!!

  16. So they expected Patrick to go and “consult” the family before he gave his views about some issues in zambia?? This is useless thinking!

  17. These family members better keep quite and let the young man pursue his political career, if that’s what he wants. He has every right to speak his mind as a citizen. Why must these family members start opposing him? No wonder we do not have enough young people going into politics because there is so much resistance from all corners, including jealous family members! This young man is free to air his views, just like these people can also speak, if they have any proper views. That what is called DEMOCRACY, different opinions and participation by different parties. Being a democracy means politics is not exclusive to a certain group or individuals. Whether this man can bring something positive to the table, time will tell. But let the man speak.

  18. IF A ZAMBIAN MAKES A STATEMENT THE VIEWS SHOULD REPRESENT THOSE OF HIS FAMILYS? THIS IS UTTER NOSENSE!! I WISH TO ADVISE EVELYN AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE MWANAWASA FAMILY NOT TO MAKE THEMSELVES FOOLS IN THEIR EFFORT TO PLEASE MMD. WHAT PATRICK SAID IN HIS PERSONAL CAPACITY AS A ZAMBIAN WAS VERY SENSIBLE AND REPRESENTATIVE OF THE VIEWS OF THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WHO ARE FRUSTRATED BY THE MUCH TALKED ABOUT DEVELOPMENT WHICH DOES NOT MAKE SENSE AT PERSONAL LEVEL. I FOUND PATRICK’S REMARKS VERY MATURE AND HE HAS DEMONSTRATED A RARE PASSION FOR THIS COUNTRY. PATRICK SHOULD TAKE UP HIS RIGHTFUL POSITION AS A YOUTH LEADER. I KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT HIS PAST BUT BASED ON WHAT PATRICK HAS BEEN SAYING IN THE MEDIA, HE MAKES A LOT OF SENSE.

  19. Its likely there was a lot of coersion from the POST to extract a ‘good’ story. he wanted to stand on MMD and he knows that should not be the vibe from an MMD aspiring candite, sounded very PF/POST

  20. This foolishness should come to an end. Why should an individual’s views be tied to his family? He has the right to air his views in his individual capacity mwefibupamwe.

  21. I read the article in question, not at any point did Patrick say he was stating the views of his family. The dude spoke as Patrick, a Zambian, who has every right to comment on the affairs of his country.
Does this Mr phiri suggest that we all should stop commenting on the affairs of the country and parade at the airport asking the president for an appointment? That is nonsense! As for the mwanawasa family, stop bringing yourselves down to the level of hungry cadres, Patrick has a right to say what he wants, he is an adult above 21 yrs old and legally qualified to become MP. If we the youth are not allowed to comment on the affairs of the nation who should, Bwezani, Sata, William Banda??? We are the leaders of tomorrow and its our right to comment if we notice RB destroying our future!

  22. Ba Mushota. Do you always have to bring in you fiance ievery time you blogg. Does he know how much you worship him? amazing.

  23. President LPM Hated corruption & plunder of national resources ask chiluba! Wat eva patrick said representd his dad’s ideas cant u c? Like father like son. Take dem on son, ur a man. Dos ar sponsored rb cadres. Wait fo sata 2 clean de hse again!! Way 4wad is Pf! Mushota ask yo cousins, & join pf

  24. Mushota. You sound like a gold digger who cant believe that you have a muzungu grandfather for a boyfriend.

  25. This is the reason why it will take hundreds of years to develop our great nation. We have to do away with such mentalities of Phiri and Miriam. Patrick has every right to air his views as has been stated by a few bloggers here. Shame on these people

  26. The mwanawasa family would like to live off LEVI Mwanawasa name. when Sata speak , i dont stand and say i ahve spoken for the zambians.ubuchushi bubi sana mwe.it does not matter if he failed or he drinks , he is a zambian and like everybody else entitled to his opinion.many of you envy to be patrick so back off and keep real . zambia is going to the dogs and it does not matter now who says what and in any case look at what he said. do you find what the president is doing acceptable . trying to build all the roads today . why not last year or year before .no wonder they buy your relatives with chibuku . mwakula chula fye

  27. Patrick is well within his rights to air his views as an individual. However, because of who he is, whatever he utters does carry some political weight and that is why The Past It interviewed him as opposed to anybody making a comment on this forum including myself. The legacy of the late president has been a political has been fought over since the time of his death with RB being accused of leaving the legacy behind at the same time he is accused of riding the waves of that same legacy by claiming credit for development projects started by LPM. If the Mwanawasa family had not made this statement, we all know full well that a perception of RB losing the support of the family would have been made and that is the very reason that The Past It published this story period.

  28. #29 Which Zambia is going to the dogs? The one that is one of the best performing economies in Africa and is now the third largest economy in Southern Africa behind South Africa and Angola? The one that is able to feed itself? The one that is seeing massive infrastructure development including roads, hospitals and schools? The one that is attracting unprecedented levels of FDI and will be hosting the AGOA summit this week? The one that has not seen hikes in the price of basic food items unlike in many other parts of Africa?

  29. Yes, even when proposing love to a woman he has to go and consult his aunties, Mirriam and Evelyn. Otherwise they will disown the girl saying that Patrick did not consult the family when he was proposing you.

  30. Mushota you always make my day. You dont forget your fiance in every blog. When is he marrying you by the way? When will he stop being on job seekers allowance?:x

  31. Every one has his own opinion just like the father to Winter Kabimba secretary General for PF. The father supports HH and the son support SATA despite been advised not to be near this bad man……If we want change,,, definately not this man,,,, you are cheating people that he is winning so vote for him,,, not other provinces man,,, every one knows this man is useless,, I do not undesrtand why they keep on talking about HH instaead of talking about Miyanda,,, We voters, we have seen,, that SATA has no chance this year,,, do not get me wrong,,, he will win in his strong hold but any other areas, never especially western,,,so leave Patrick Mwanawasa alone………

  32. Patrick is entitled to his opinions just like any other Zambian and hence he can express himself in the manner he sees the things. It is just a pity that many people who have something to say are not given to do so and am sure many would say many things that they see wrong and right in the country. Just like Evelyn is entitled to her opinion, the fact that they are family does not mean they should agree on many certain issues. I guess Patrick did not and does not speak on behalf of the so called Mwanawasa family. He simply expresses his views like he did and so are many other people in the country. Let us not be petty, that is why there is freedom of expression utilize if you can, besides it is the same thing thing bloggers are doing here. This is my opinion and not the Jackal family’s!

  33. Patrick has every right to express his views just as he kept mute when his dad was messing up with some issues. I dont see why he should be consulting the family. Why and what for?

  34. With the way things are going pa ZED we are back to one party participatory governance and thats why Evelyn feels comfortable to drag Patrick who is more exposed than herself to RB because to her thats the only to survive

  35. Fred Mmembe wrote that piece of statement for Patrick to read. the chap is damn dull and now has resorted to parambulating the streets of Lusaka drinking everything else and munching unsuspecting young grls just for the name of his father. Patrick cant write anything that piece of statement was coined by Jonas Shakafuswa and edited by Fred Namakando Mmembe. the chap failed academically in London how can he pass in Lusaka. shame. what Patrick could do is to find a job as a civil servant and earn a decent wage for himself snd his bustards. but knowing who patrick is the chap cant sit in an office for 1 hour. what therefore for 8 hours. next you will hear Patrick insulting Maureen. the chap is a disgress who is learning the art of ‘slaughtering’ women from Jonas Shakafuswa. DONT KUFYONO

    • Ironic how you go on about Patrick not being able to right that statement and how “damn dull” he is.

  36. How old is this guy? You mean this Mwanawasa family cannot respect the fact that this guy is an adult and capable of expressing his vies on any subject without seeking clearance from them? Strange! Very strange indeed.

  37. rabish to this young man, he doesnt consult de family before making a statement, plse 4give him he is young

  38. Lusaka times kwena. you have censored the word b.u.r.st.a.rd.. this is nothing but children born out of wedlock

  39. PATRICK tell them youngman. You are old enough and mature to make own judgement. This has nothing to do with family. Ladies learn to have boundaries please. PATRICK good show. Like Father like Son. # 34 Kizito your example is great too!!!

  40. Kaunda’s sons are always talking bad of RB and the MMD. How come there is no one in Kaunda family coming out to say those are not the views of the family? Even KK is just watching and doing his own things. The Mwanawasa family has a very big problem, they want to appear united to the public when in reality they are miles apart in the way they talk and do things. Each one must stand on their own and we shall know them by their fruits. The Mwanawasa family is not a co-operative union where you expect only one person to speak for the organisation. Have they forgotten that LPM became president through a rigged election? Do they think we have forgotten? Their hero was a hard worker but not an angel.Let Patrick talk and the young warned them about bringing Chiluba close to MMD, no one listened

  41. Mwanawasa family are actually an embarrassment now for reducing themselves to this level. We know that Evelyn is MMD NEC member but that does not make the entire family obliged to blindly support even useless thinds done by ruling party. The late Mwanawasa had a very independent mind which i’m seing in this young man Patrick.Leave him alone as you will need him in future since he is the only Mwanawasa male remaining the family. He never claimed to have spoken for his family. Shame on you for trying muzzle the boy. Bear in mind that he is male and by nature will act as such once in a while and not like you cowards.

  42. which constituency is winter kabimba standing in. His record are amazingly unmatched. 100 court cases , 99 loses and 1 no contest. he has never been elected to anything just like Satana for the past 11 years. already the chaps are conceeding defeat before a single vote is even cast. ati UPND is spoiler. just like PF the upnd are also competitors like MMD.it is everyone for himself and God for us all. but God has left the PF and the party has remained with Lesbians(SEBIANS) and Gays

  43. wat was wrong with Patrics view, such families are not worth being called families because they do not support individualism and the spirit to express oneself as sees fit !!

  44. #2 & #8, I fully agree with you. The young man is an adult by our standards. He is allowed to be himself, and does not need the approval of his family to speak to the nation.

  45. leave patrick alone?if foreigners like elvis ngandu(zanama chairman) is given alot of time on znbc and times/daily,why cant patrick speak on issues affecting the nation?the fact that his father was president shouldnt stop him commenting or critizing these much talked about development projects. Why borrow money from capital markets when mining firms are busy evading taxes like mopani?its not making any sense guys

  46. Every Zambian should  be free to express his or her opinion on the way this country is been run to the ground. Independent thinking is very important and should not be discouraged. We happen to have too many “apes”  mimicking same ideas without even asking weather the idea is lawful or makes sense at all. Let Patrick have his point of view on things, without comparing him to his father or his family denouncing him. The family should also realise that Patrick is a grown who can think for him self. MUSHOTA, who cares about your boyfriend? Don’t be a skunk , open your eyes to the suffering of many Zambians.

  47. The rapacious desperation within the MMD party is saddening. Whatever the case anyone has got the right to give an opinion on how they feel over state affairs. The ideas of tranquility vocal quenching on whoever is against the president’s recent dubious developmental projects being done in desperation for the sake of winning votes is tantamount to suppression on freedom of expression. Why do they want shut up the young man? Young leaders nowadays are blessed with overflowing knowledge and wisdom than these recycled politicians in Zambia. I get sense in what the youngman is saying.

  48. His auntie should be ashamed of herself who does she think she is, his minder? Someone should tell ba Everlyn to mind her business and allow the young man cut his own teeth without interference from her – an MMD cadre. He does not need a degree to contribute to his country, how many Ministers have degrees? even those with degrees behave like they’ve never even seen the inside of a lecture hall, just listen to Kunda and Siliya when they are making important statements. As for the sister she’s a disgraced prat looking to cash in on nothing.
Patrick hold your head high boyi it’s time to make up your mind, if its politics go for it now when your late father’s name is still valuable. If you continue listening to your useless autie you’ll regret in future.

  49. Hey guys leave my Mushota alone, my dick can’t get up anymore as l am 78 years old, she gives me a blow job while my clients chop in the arse no one wants to go in her cunt cos her father and brothers did some serious incest on the poonani. Please don’t blame her for some  stupid commits. I know she is going try and find a Zambian Mandingo once l get her British papers, I am a clever old dog! I will never marry the hoo. When her bum muscles are as finished as her noonoon I will get rid

  50. When her bum muscles are as finished as her noonoon I will get rid of the cow

  51. The girl has to get off her cheap nokia phone l have clients I am charging 2 quid a time

  52. Just like Patrick is free to express himself, his aunty and his sister are also free to say that the views he is expressing are his  and his only and not those of the entire Mwanawasa family, simples.

  53. The Family Tree Njala yabanyokola let them speak to RB nicely he will give them a landing spot like he has helped other hungry politicians or men who had it good and are now destitutes..

  54. Every good president builds on the good things of his predicessor, while discarding the bad things – that is how it goes for every normal president in any normal country.

RB is of course building on the good things mwanawasa was doing or intending to do. He discarded worng things Mwanawasa was either doing or allowing such as supporting Zambian Airways, which was private entity of M’membe and Mutembo, with tax payers funds.

Mwanawasa also built on the good things of Chiluba and discarded the bad ones. in the Same way Chiluba built on Kaunda’s good things e.g. rehabilitation of Kaunda’s roads schools etc. while discarding bad staff like dishing out coupons and printing moneys anyhow.

This means that no single person should be able to claim the entire credit. Thats how it is.

  55. Patrick is free to say what he wants and stand on PF ticket in Kafulafuta. However, it is also within the family members’ rights to disassociate themselves from his comments just in case the PF muppets start celebrating a coup de tour of the whole family. For someone who wants to stand in Kafulafuta, to go against MMD in the manner he has done is either a lack of good judgement or just sheer dullness.

  56. The young man is right, all of Banda so called development are this his father started. the sisters are just worried that they will stop the free money Banda is using to buy their backing…

  57. Whatever happened to freedom of speech/expression? If he feels like there is no development been done in Zambia; so let it be… He has rights to express his views on national matters just like any other Zambian.

  58. I cannot believe that some Zambians are so dull, you are all still talking about Zambian airways? every developed country in the world took steps to stop jobs from goingaway… wake up people because if you all think Banda is a good leader then you need to get your heads checked.

  59. Leave the Boy alone. He has his own life. When spoke he didnt use the word WE he was talking as Himself. Why should that antie start issueing statements. Boy has ambitions to become President leave alone. Why are pipo so scaled of their own shodows. I mean the boy’s statement is his opinion punicking? BOO SHIT.

  60. # 58 Chimunya,

    I like you point.
Patrick is free to express himself and in the same way his family is free to express themselves. That is great balance, because freedom of expression is not the reserve of Patrick alone.

in fact the family has not stopped him from exercising his right to expression, they have simply distanced themselves from his uterances and they have the right to do so. if Patrick also wants to distance himself from their expression he can also do so. This is the democracy we are talking about.

  61. ABASH EVELYN MWANAWASA, ABASH MIRRIAM MWANAWASA. ABASH WHO EVER WANTS TO GAG PATRICK. HE IS ZAMBIAN, VERY MATURE AND HAS CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO SPEAK ON THE POLITICS OF ZAMBIA. NO ONE SHOULD STOP HIM.

I DONT AGREE WITH MATIMBA’S LINE OF ARGUEMENT (# 4). WHETHER DULL OR WHATEVER, ALL ZAMBIANS HAVE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.

EVELYN IS AN MMD CADRE SO IAM NOT SURPRISED. PATRICK PLEASE CONTINUE SPEAKING. DONT ALLOW THOSE USELESS WOMEN IN YOUR FAMILY TO CONTROL YOU. I WAS

  62. #66 That is not correct. If a company is not being run well, why should a govt step in using tax payers’ money which can be used elsewhere? The govt is not obligated to step in and save a company that gets into trouble simply because it is Zambian owned as that would be a recipe for disaster. I would just run my company into the ground and sit back and wait for a govt hand-out. Zambians have to grow up and live in the real world, it is only then will we develop the skills needed to run successful companies which in the long-term will foster job creation and retention.

  63. # 66 Rasta

Being open minded is of great benefit, I hope you know.
It will be an illusion to allow thieves to continue stealing because they have employed some people to work for them in facilating the theft. Is that the way you provide employment?

Tomorrow you will tell us that nobody should stop people who are running brothels because they are providing employement to prostutes and workers. We dont need to sink low just to get what we want at the expense actual values. just because “Zambian Airways” provided employement does not mean we leave them to get tax payers moneys for personal endeavors, No. wanting to get what we want at all costs is what is making SATA to start supporting hosexuality. I hope he is not you leader, anyway I wouldn’t be surprised.

  64. Young Patrick just start your own career instead of hinging of your late Father’s so-called ‘legacy’ ( Of nepotism, tribalism etc). We are tired of listening on this ‘legacy , legacy’ nonsense as if it brought anything sensible to Zambia other than Kanitundila and the flocks of Lenjes/ Lambas in Zesco and the foreign service. Ma labishi !

  65. # 11, chiluba sold houses for 10 pin to get himself a second term in 1996 not vamene munama apa: mwanawasa only came onto the scene in 2001

  66. I had a cursory glance on the statements above and Im quite shocked why someone, whether dull or not should not be allowed an opinion. What makes readers think he was speaking on behalf of the family. Are you guys really serious? Lets assume he said the government had done tremendously well, this kerfuffle would have been a non starter. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and i never read in that article Patrick mentioning that he has a constituency. I just hate the double standards we have in Zambia. Let the Patrick speak his mind for once. Most of you guys, whose statements appear before mine, must be either very dull or you are deliberately skewing your thinking into one track! its disgusting

  67. Development issue aside. the issue of the family on Patrick plays a major role, actually thus the very reason he is making news. That is the only credential he seem to have as the son of the former president and nothing else.

  68. I am sure LPM might have held a contrary view to that his “family” and upheld his son’s right to express his own opinion.

  69. “Mr Phiri said if Patrick is experiencing problems because he is no longer living in State House, the best would be for him to meet the President and explain his situation.”

I find this statement stale, and it’s a similar RB used against Mpombo, Milton Phiri, accusing them of being hungry for issuing against them. And going further asking them to go to him if need. My question is how many people will go to the President for alms? Keep people poor and oppressed, and rule them.

Such statements just show how corrupt RB is..

  70. @Mama Makasa:

At least Patrick is using his “only credential” to positively contribute to the debate about the future of our Nation. Unlike other children of former Presidents, one Castro Chiluba comes to mind, who used their “only credential” to rape, pistol wipe people, and prostitute themselves to Leopards Hill cemetery! For sure Patrick understands the clout he commands as son of the former President and he is exploiting it constructively, at least in this case.
    W
hen does a man ceases to be a child and be regarded as their own individual person who do not need permission from anybody to say what they think? Patrick is an adult who should be held personally responsible for his political views without bringing his entire family into the mix. Don’t be swayed, Pat!!

  71. Well, I wonder what sin the young man committed. Maybe he should have praised Chipuba Banda !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Zambians, how many of you know about ideological programs? RB and his fools are embarking on ideological programs, which is highly dangerous. How are we going to manage so many programs at once? Roads, geysers, bridges, houses, etc? who is accounting for these projects at once? Ministry of Rupiya Banda? I am from mansa and I shut up.

  72. Patrick is right ,there is no development.Umwana ashenda atasha banyina ukunaya ubwali.Travel around neighbouring countries and see developments, even Angola which had war for 27 ys is better thAN MOTHER ZAMBIA.KUYA BEBELE

  73. mushota i salute u on this,,,this guy is not patrick at o…his father left theze projects n he is condemng them? silly boy..pliz keep on saying sense than being a racist,i kno u cn do well n change mushota. u r educated n zed need such brainz…thiz brog is for o,,name it govt officials etc thy may get advice n ideas from here,,

  74. lets be realistic…there is development in Zambia….people open your eyes,no wonder us the MMDs r winning, come August Elections,,ohh oh sorry the elections r in NOV. MMD ll win with landslide victory ever seen or witnessed on zed soil, sorry PF we cant entertain your lack of development knowledge. constable to be Zambian president? no wayz..patric shut up your step Mum knows better than u boy,get lost..lets keep refurbishing Zed colonial buildngs,,here we come FINDECO..nafuti nafuti

  75. #79 I think you will find that your Sata was at the helm for most of the 27 years that Angola was at war so what is he going to do differently now that he is 3 in 1(old, sick, tired)? By the way, Angola has one of the highest costs of living in the world which means that ordinary Angolans find it very difficult to make ends meet, whereas us in Zambia we have falling food prices. Why dont you do us all a favour and go to Angola yourself and with any luck you might just stand on a landmine.

  76. I wonder how much it costs to have loyal bootlickers like Mr Phiri? Like really.. What development has been brought forth by President Banda, Like with all due respect, that silly Dev Map i saw a few weeks back is a joke. Why can’t he state facts that are adjunct with his president’s achievement flaunt if he wants people to take him serious.. Something like mention 10 developmental projects tailed with their substantial positive results? It shouldn’t be that hard if they don’t have to be fabricated right?? Selfish people make me sick, campaigning for someone just because you have been told and paid to do so!

  77. No.21 spot on. No. 40 Shame on you. How do you Judge a person like that. You seem to be on another planet. How many people have not done well in school but run successful business and do well in other sectors of life. Look at our current politician and MPs the so called learned. It is shocking what they do. Listen to some parliament debate and listen to some MPs who have not done well at school and hear their views. You will be shocked. Patrick is an individual who has a private life and we should respect that. You also have your own private life which very few people know about coz you didnt have a chance to in his shoes. You might shock us to with the things you do mubumfisolo. Lets respect one another to enjoy this zambia we have.

  78. No one needs  to distance anyone from anyone. We live in a democratic nation/world where people have opinions that are diverse. What is the problem. Patrick has a right to his opinion. He may consult if he wants but at the end of the day he can say what he likes and no one she be bothered. Get a life.

  79. # 84 kindly check FNDP n SNDP i know u have kno idea what they mean…dont be ignorant,,RB finished hiz promise of completing levyz projects n he has started his own! RB is not the first presisdent to talk about Development,i recall he promised to carry on levyz legacy n he has done well,,haterz to hell..RB till 2016. o the PF risks hv been calculated so no worriez in MMD..hey patric, think twice boy,u kno nothing about sustainable development at o n u shud change yo silly statement within 12hrs..we r busy developing zambia n u r busy insultng us? come 2015 we ll provide spectaclez to blind PF cadres who hate devpt 2c devept..easy 2011 elections for rb..expecting PF to beat RB in electon is like expecting Simata to beat Kalu OR EXPECTING ManU to beat BArca in UEFA.

  80. Why do the so called Mwanawasa family feel they always have to lick the boots of this Malawian? Also what did we ever do to God to condemn our country to be ruled by Malawians (Kaunda and Rupiah) and Congolese (Chiluba)? Who next? A Chinese? Only Levy was a Zambian.

  81. Some people like #84 are so blinded by hate that if they saw RB walking on water they would say it is because he cant swim! If Sata had achieved a quarter of what RB has so far managed to do he would be called ‘a man of action’. Let those who dont want to acknowledge that development is taking place stick their heads in the sand in W province, us we will continue marching towards a more prosperous Zambia.

  82. #90 If we are going to be xenophobic, then I  would rather lick the boots of the Nyasalander than the 3 in 1 (sick, mad,  tired) Tanzanian who has a phobia of staircases.

  83. People i think you are missing the point here, you are concertrated on Patrick whether he is an adult or not and whether he should talk or not, that is wayout of point. Debate about what he said,Don’t you honestly sure think that the Zed pipo are being blindfolded by these late development plans??????????????????

  84. i am the family. who should i consult when expressing my views about zambia.. my own personal views- no one! mopani is not pay enough tax!

  85. Good evening

#93 mebo is right. The subject matter for the debate here should be about the development being delivered (or not?) by the RB government. That is the bone of contention that led Patrick to be disowned by his family members.
Why can’t a former statesman’s son have his own views about development in his country and utter them publicly without being castigated by members of the ruling party? There’s another odd thing at work here – and it has nothing to do with freedom of expression nor democracy.

  86. Patrick has constitutional rights to air his own view in regards to social, political and economic development of his country. I wonder how democratic rights can be exercised at individual levels if one is required to consult his/her family. There is nothing wrong with what Patrick has done and I very much agree with #21 Kafupi’s views that Patrick is very much in order to express a rare passion for his country which other noise makers have failed. Lets understand democracy fellow country men and women. One does not need to be a bootlicker but to state what is exactly obtaining on the ground.

  87. #31 don’t believe statistical cannon fodder that you are being fed by the Bretton Woods Institutions. Yes they want to caress your ego at the expense of RAPING YOUR OWN COUNTRY!! Where is the pride in that???? Let your family go hungry, but fatten you bank balance, am sure your bank manager will be your best friend, may even give you free golf club membership for life!!! Clever boy!!

  88. Patrick is right when he says GRZ/MMD is brain washing Zambians with the funny developmental projects. The President is supposed to be inaugurating finished projects, not being seen day in day out launching this or that project. Utter nonsense.

  89. Pratrick is dillussional, he thinks he is his father re-incarnate. He is just an ordinary no big deal chap. Atase!

  90. All of you that are condemning Patrick should think twice. He is just showing that he is a man of his own and not the likes of Chanda Chimba, Lifwekelo, Siulapwa etc. LT should be balanced in their reporting. Why did they not publish what Patrick said? They only publish what suits RB and his vuvuzelas. Let LT also publish what Chieftaines Nkomeshya has said. She is so annoyed with MMD. She has even warned that her words should not be eddited. Every body should write exactly what she said. Iam sure Chanda Chimba, Lifwekelo, ZNBC, Times of Zambia, Daily Mail and all MMD vuvzelas are busy trying to eddit what HRH said. You have been warned not do so. You are good at doing that just like you twisted and editted SATA remarks on gays & Lesbians to mislead the entire nation.

  91. Mushota you are so biased towards MMD in your comments. If Patrick had praised RB with these cosmetic projects you would have been the first one to support him and describe him as a true son of the Late President. Now he has given you and all your MMD VUVUZELAS a bitter pill to swallow. I had alot of respect for you but now I have my doubts. Remember my sister Zambia is a multparty democracy.

  92. This is just but the plain and bitter truth. We have to live with and by it
Most ‘A’ Class’ students get technical seats, some become Doctors and some Engineers.
The ‘B’ Class’ pass, and then pass MBA, become Administrators and control the ‘First Class’.
The ‘C’ Class’ pass, enter politics and become Ministers and control both the above.
Last, but not the least, The ‘Failures’ join business and control all the above.

What a world!!! And where do you fall.

  93. Today Patrick is dull and failed to complete his degree but tomorrow he might be controlling you.

  94. There is no discussion or argument here. Patrick expressed his views in his personal capacity and not as the family representative. The family are saying that is not the view of the entire family. So whats the problem.

  95. Did Patrick mention that he was speaking on behalf of the family. MMD stop cheap politics. You are just using Evelyne and Mirriam.

  96. well, well. whatever is going on in our country cannot be done now, considering a few months ago we did not have money to do anything constructive as indicated in the budget. These activities are good but were not planned for. What is the problem with that, it means the instruments to control expenditure are not in place which leaves a lot of room for thiefs to steal our money. A country should not be run like a katemba, which the Minister of Finance is doing.

  97. PATRICK NEVER ISSUED A STATEMENT AS MWANAWASA FAMILY..POINT OF COLLECTION TO THE MWANAWASA FAMILY…WE ALL UNDERSTOOD THAT IT WAS HIS OWN INDEPENDENT WORD..HE HAS ALL THE RIGHTS TO SPEAK AND BE LIABLE FOR HIS WORD

  98. I think some people in the Mwanawasa family are thinking with their bottoms instead of their heads in their bid to please RB and the MMD. The young man has rights and one of them is freedom of speech. He should not be muzzled just because he is Mwanawasa’s son. There are a lot of things going wrong in Zambia and it should take courageous young people like Patrick Mwanawasa to point them out. Otherwise the MMD will plunder the country as per the advice of its consultant.

  99. BBC reports;Zambians on on trial for match-fixing in Finland
IN ASSOCIATION WITHPage last updated at 14:19 GMT, Thursday, 9 June 2011 15:19 UK
E-mail this to a friend Printable version Seven Zambians have gone on trial in a match-fixing investigation that has rocked the Finnish football league.

The probe centres on Wilson Raj Perumal, a Singaporean suspected by Fifa of fixing internationals involving African and Asian national teams.

  100. I think Patrick as an individual has an obligation to point out ills if there any, and nobody should rush to critisise him because one fears losing out on some important votes. remember, that the ills he has pointed out have also been echoed by her Majesty Chiefteness Nkomeshya Mukamambo II of the Soli people in Chalimbana/ Chonwe area. My wonder is why the Lusaka Times has chosen not to publish this story ” Her majesty’s” so that people can read it and see exactly why they don’t want MMD back.

  101. It is interesting to note how all the PF muppets understood the Patrick and yet missed King Snake’s unmistakable support for homosexuality in the unlikely event that he ever became president on this earth.

  102. Lol Patrick’s article was his opinion which he is entitled to and in fairness contains substance. Whether the guy is credidle or not, it makes sense to give credit where due. His words were sound…………this time round! And it is called growing up………maybe he just did that:-w
