Ostracised PF MPs won’t seek party adoption

ALL 14 Patriotic Front (PF) members of Parliament (MPs) who attended the National Constitutional Conference (NCC) say they will not re-contest their parliamentary seats on their party’s ticket.

Group spokesperson Peter Machungwa said in a statement released in Lusaka yesterday the MPs have resolved not to re-contest their seats on the PF ticket because of the humiliation they have suffered at the hands of the party’s president Michael Sata.

Dr Machungwa said the decision was arrived at after a meeting of the MPs to discuss their political stand and future.

“I would like to inform the nation that all the MPs who attended the NCC will not contest their seats on the PF party ticket,” Dr Machungwa said.

He said now that the country is heading towards the polls, it is important that all politicians state clearly who they support and what they have to offer Zambians.

He said it will not benefit anyone to be ambiguous on which party ticket they will re-contest their seats.

Dr Machungwa said the PF leadership has lost respect for the MPs and subjected them to public ridicule despite their contribution to the opposition party.

“We arrived at this decision because the PF leadership has marginalised us and subjected us to insults and other kinds of abuse,” Dr Machungwa said.

He said the PF leadership has shown utter disrespect for the MPs by continuously dragging them to court in spite of the court decision that they should not be expelled from the party.

Dr Machungwa said it is humiliating for the MPs to be expelled from the PF because of attending the NCC, which was for the public good.

“We were expelled a number of times, but the courts of law ruled that we could not vacate our seats in Parliament just because we participated in the NCC,” DrMachungwa said.

He said individual MPs are still considering which party to join and re-contest their seats on, and will make public statements at the right time.

“Each one of us will make an individual decision and announce very soon as to which party ticket he/she will re-contest their seats on,” Dr Machungwa said.

He said it is not automatic that all the MPs will be adopted by the various political parties in the country as they have to be assessed to establish whether they can win an election.

“The party which each MP chooses will have to prove that it is possible for that MP to win the seat,” Dr Machungwa said.

  1. You defied your party directives and went for the cool cash at the NCC. What have you yielded for the country from your NCC?
You also know that even if you did not come out with a public statement PF was never going to adopt any rebel MP to re contest their seats . All PF rebel MPs are in a deep political quagmire

  2. Oh please Machungwa, why then did you fight so hard to remain in PF if PF isnt the party for you? One answer only MONEY, you knew very well that you days as MP and receiving those allowances where numbered so the only way was to hang on to PF for as long as you could.
Time has come for you rebels to show your political muscles by standing under different parties or as independent. Lets see if you will win and how many of you will win. If i were any of you, i wouldnt stand.

  3. Good riddance!!! We need MPs who have the interest of the people at heart. Not you chaps who practice politics of the belly!

  4. Machungwa is talking like the decision to stand lies in their hands. Infantile thinking indeed. You are gone my friends. That is the end of you, I wonder if MMD is going to adopt any of you.

That is what being rebel yields.

  5. Good things go to those who wait. We have waited faithfully for Mr Sata and PF to be in Government in 2011 and only true leaders of integrity will be tolerated in PF. You REBELS thought you were clever, the options are many for you but my humble advise is that retire from the constituencies you stood on because abuntu balifulwa sana. In fact PF will emerge with landlsides victories in all polls especially were REBELS betrayed the electorates. Ifyakulya ubushiku bafimwena kumalushi. Viva all Patriotic supporters and let us cammpaign and remind our people the damage MMD has done to this nation. Last minute appeasement AWE we refuse and DONT KUBEBA. Viva Sata 2011….Ubwatoooooooooooooooooooooo.

  6. PF you enjoy bloging at expense of campaigning. Pipo on internet are already decided. Go out there and campaign before it’s too late. Remember to use proffessional language and speak nothing but the truth. MMD is using development to woo support esp in rural areas and you are busy asking where the money is coming from…can u convince a villager to refuse development coz money is borrowed dubiously or watever? Read all the tabloids and listen to ZNBC as well even if boring in terms of news coverage but you will see the response of these villagers even to mobile hospitals. A good strategist is one who listens to all views first not insulting everytime you hear someone speak against your position. So campaign, dont depend on miners and busines men only. Wat more with 80% chiefs on RB side.

  7. This is what myopic and blind support does. REBELS just like some chiefs choose to betray their people for short term pocket money and forget the long term good picture. Its time for the betrayed masses also voice out their disgust through the ballot in the 2011 election. Wina azalila. Honestly, did Machungwa and his money lovers even think that PF would adopt them even for ward positions? Surely it’s time for Zambians to send clear message to all who hurt them and do wrong things like corruption, deceipt, lies, arrogant, stubbornness and murderers of innocent citizens through the ballot in 2011. Sata and PF have demonstrated that they stand for the majority Zambians and they deserve all the votes in this year’s election.

  8. 65% of the vote is in the rural areas where farming has become a success story and 35% in urban. RB may get 40% in rural and 15% in urban…Iam just speculating. But if you blogers get leave and go into the villages, never know. Dont just say we want nothing but sata in state house at end of this year…but who doesnt want HH or let alone RB in state hse. Encourage your members to check and correct voters register thats the more reason why the excercise was called for but you are politicking pakumfwa fye ati there are some erors. even going to the extent of saying erors are only in PF strong holds how can I can belive you coz today it is 60% to 40% suport for and or against in most constituencies. Bye elections lately done wud tel you that story. There is nothing like 90% suport.

  9. Ba # 7, what developmet is in the rural areas? Chiefs sleep in thatched houses please don’t insult us we are already red hot including the innocent rural dwellers who you lie they have their areas “developed”. Kindly quantify what you mean. PF is on the ground for your own sake and this is evidenced in the by-elections that have since taken place in the “developed” rural areas. PF won the Mporokoso and the REBELS plus MMD “developed” rural areas. The wind of change is blowing very very strongly and just about to do its work in two months time in Zambia. Viva Sata viva PF>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DONT KUBEBA

  10. “Each one of us will make an individual decision and announce very soon as to which party ticket he/she will re-contest their seats on”. In saying this, am sure Machungwa didn’t  on in mind the MMD or indeed the late UNIP and UPND? Oh they can stand az independents!

  11. #10 u acuse me of lieng wen u seem to be the one lieng. If chiefs were in thatched houses, they would not giive suport this Govnt. l know for sure chiefs palaces hav been done and electrified in most cases. take itfrom me. The other day i heard one chief on znbc saying govt has given (or bribed them with) vehicles to 284 chiefs. Bely politics wrk in ZED. Devlpnt to me is a road, a school, a hospital, farming inputs and these bring with them direct and indirect employment. This is hapening otho not to the atmost satisfaction of the employed. strong wind of change should hapen with massive campaign suport by yourself for pf. all these rebel MPs maybe a minus to pf in some constituencies believ me. so u gain here and u loose there. Be strategical and acept advise.

  12. How can an MP who has functioned under an injunction even imagine (s)he can be regarded as legit after the legal run has expired???? I feel so sorry for the rebels and their fickle efforts to save face. I hope they can find something else to do as citizens away from parliamentary duty.

  13. Wait a minute!! Machungwa has just twitted – says he is holding a Press conference on Monday, to announce a new party in the offing – he is inviting the press corps to the meeting at Inters in Lusaka at 0900hrs.

A close source has also twitted, what is seeming like letting the cat out of the bag, by hinting, that the New party, will probably be called: ” Ama Rebels!”  End of twit!!

  14. When u are rejected here on earth even ku mwamba u are a reject!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ……………………..taibula kubwekeshapo!

  15. Machungwa and elizabeth chitika practices politics of belly, now also MMD has rejected them so the money they got from NCC, they must use it wisely. Viva Pa Bwato, Zwaa MMD
