Mangani’s resignation sends panic in MMD

Delegates to the MMD conference dancing before the start of the event

The resignation of works and supply deputy minister Lameck Mangani coupled with his planned defection to the Patriotic Front has caused panic in the MMD top leadership, highly placed sources have disclosed to QFM.

Senior MMD officials, including president Rupiah Banda are said to be shocked by the unexpected resignation of Mr. Mangani.

Sources have told QFM that the news has come as a surprise to the party leadership especially that most of them thought that the perceived differences between Mr. Mangani and President Banda were ironed out when he was appointed works and supply deputy minister after being fired as home affairs minister.

The MMD is said to weary that the resignation of Mr. Mangani will enable the Patriotic Front make inroads in the eastern province considered an MMD stronghold.

Works and supply deputy minister announced his resignation from government and the MMD today in letters sent to President Rupiah Banda and MMD National Secretary Richard Kachingwe dated 8th July, 2011.

  9. If there is one place where PF can not will, that place is Eastern Province, Easterners hate Sata. UPND can even do better than PF in the East. If Mangani joins PF and stands as MP for Chipata central, believe me, it will be the end of his political career, he will lose.

I’m glad Mangani has left Kanitundila’s circus. The inert and clueless manner Bwezani is running Zambia is dangerous and has by all means got to come to an end this year. Though I am also mindful of this new Zambian mentality of trying to be the world’s first christian moaning nation, I mean, for all intents and purposes, if Sata is elected he will no doubt die in office. Imagine three graves in embassy park, the stench especially from Chiluba is as it were already nauseating diplomats and Kunda whence his reddened lips.

  29. A Mangani azicosa nchito – this is an extremely dull man — that is why he was demoted. This is the same f.ool who childishly went all out to fix Mr Sata until RB saved the f.ool from embarrasment by demoting him. Since then he has been irrelevant to the MMD strategy. A very f.oolish man, he should have kept his tail between his legs — if he has one. MMD is winning, Zambia cannot be handed over to a bunch of rejects and failures who have ganged up pretending to have the interest of our people at heart.

  34. Just a bit of history in 2001 the big fish himself Mr Sata, resigned from MMD. MMD did not lose to PF then, has not lost to PF since, and is not about to lose to PFnow.   51. There is no sane Zambian out there who can make experiments with Mr Sata as if they don’t know him. Zambia has its share of insane citizens but fortunately you can count them on your fingers and they only exist on LT as paid agents.   60. There is no need to panic. RB has no opponent. Sata`s name will not even be on any ballot paper. We have heard from reliable sources that very soon he will be charged with criminal liability. By the time these cases will be resolved it will be next year. Boma ni boma. 

  62. Tell me of one country in Africa where the incumbent has failed to secure a second term of office. Besides, RB`s term has not even started. He was merely finishing Mwanawasa`s term. Technically he can go beyond two terms since the constitution is silent about the terms of office one can run following a bye-election; so RB has ten more years to rule. Political analysts what do you say?

  66. I’m a Ngoni from Chief Mpezeni in Chipata, and proudly so, we are not tribalists. We accept all tribes in our land, and many people here can attest to that. MMD in Eastern Province is fractured because people wanted the other Bemba man to be Provincial Chairman instead of Kennedy Zulu. And more over, most Chiefs are not happy with Rupiah’s divide and rule tactics he is employing among Easterners in his Government, and among Chiefs themselves.

    To say Mangani is not a factor now that he has resigned is gross foolhardy, as we Easterners, especially us the Ngonis, we don’t take kindly someone who treats others inhumanely. Kupha njoka, ni kudula mutu (To kill a snake, is to cut it’s head). How can one claim to love everyone else, when he hates those he eats with on the same table, RB.

  68. Hi Guys, I like your yappings and exitement on the goings on in Zambian Politics today. That’s the beauty with democracy; even *****s can have a say and be heard. But I was there myself at Garden House in 1990 when MMD was formed/annonced and its manifesto laid-bare. The first Chiluba cabinet was the BEST, if not on the entire African continent. It’s sad today to note; MMD has turned into UNIP and all it’s dreams to revamp the economy, hence uplifting the living standards of the pipo have been thrown out of the window. I never imagined we could today have pipo like ba Siliya/Namugala/Mike Kaingu as Govt., ministers; its shocking to say the least…

He was completely fired by RB. He just kept very quite and probably went on a retreat, there he is full Cabinet Minister. The only problem is the incomming GRZ will most likely find foreign dept higher than reserves held.

    20 years of this MMDs mismanegment in a rich Zambia and universal education remains but an extension for the rich. Hundreds of thousands of primary aged kids in Zambia are wallowing in compounds without an education because they cant afford to go to shool or there are not enough primary schools, While this MMD enriches itself with kickback to deals that are infact selling the future of the youth.
