A University of Zambia (UNZA) political analyst, Phineas Bbaala has said the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) is waning in its popularity by constantly fighting President Rupiah Banda in the courts of law.
Mr Bbaala also said that such moves only show that the opposition party is not ready for the September 20, tripartite elections.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka during the week Mr. Bhaala who is a lecturer in the school of political science and administration, said the PF was making desperate efforts to have the elections pushed to another date so that they could prepare adequately.
“As things stand right now, the PF is not ready for elections and want to cause confusion so that the date is pushed further ahead. ” Mr Bbaala said.
He said the PF was engulfed in internal problems and was trying by all means to divert the electorate from querying the thorny issues in the opposition and had resorted to schemes that would ensure their reputation was not affected.
Mr Bbaala said the schemes by the PF would only work against them in the outcome of elections and they were only laying grounds to cry foul on their anticipated loss.
“The PF was not ready for elections as evidenced by what they are doing now, trying to fight the president in the courts, this will not win them any votes and they are wasting a lot of time. They were asking the President to announce the date but it is clear that were not ready,” he said.
He said the poor adoption process by the PF had worsened the credibility of Mr Sata who he said should not take the electorate for granted.
He said that among the presidential candidates, only President Banda had engaged in serious campaigns and was showing the people what he was able to deliver if voted back into office.
He urged the voters to carefully scrutinize various party manifestos and not pay attention to political schemes such as the ones by the PF that aim to create confusion ahead of elections.
Mr Bbaala said another factor affecting the PF and other opposition parties’ campaigns, was that they were failing to tell the people what they would offer because all this had already been undertaken by President Banda’s government.
“From the start, I didn’t expect the opposition to engage in issue based campaigns because they have nothing to tell the people, all issues have been covered by President Banda and he has shown that he can do it and people believe in him than they would in the opposition’s promises, so it is going to be difficult for them to convince the electorate on real issues.” he added.

Suprise, suprise! Source? Times of Banda!!
Well Even on 21 sept you will doubt when they announce MMD has won.
Bbaala at no time had you recognised the popularity of Pf, but what has changed only to see that its popularity is waning.
You have always been anti-pf. Just come out in the open.
Spot on Bbaala, tell these kaponyas that they will never rule our beloved country.
Political analyst i don’t think so he sounds like his an MMD cadre. very biased analysis
i can believe him if he refered to one political analysis theory. He is just making asssumptions and not analysing
so is MMD. The students you are lecturing will need jobs upon completion.PF & MMD have alot of old recycled politicians who have continued to block the many jobless young zambians. Supporting parties led by very old politicians is pushing zambia backwards..;WHEN OLD SLOW VEHICLES OCCUPY THE FRONT,THEY CAUSE CONGESTION DELAY OTHER MOTORISTS’ Viva fresh blood via HHHHHHHHHHH
There you go, another job seeker. I went round in rural areas and I can’t believe how popular the PF has become. Its now the household name. You will be shocked Mr Dull lecturer.
This is the same group with Dr Ngoma we su.This are wrong Dr’s looking on how to be put on a trip and make something to buy a RV CAR
kusuminafye bafikaaaala, lyonse ni ku court naba lawyer bashiwish. basambilile law mu short wave
Dons should not be biased. We were expectint a good analysis of all the major players in this years polls but here is a vuvuzela showing who he is and wasting our time. Ba LT when are you going to be out of your box. Bring issues which are are analytical to all parties. What will you look like when the opposition wins if you are biased like this?
Mr u are not a political analysty u sound more like an MMD
cader who is looking for a job.
Sometimes you have to reside in another country to truly appreciate your own. That applies to political parties too, they rise and fall in popularity by receiving and declining in support or membership.Any real party cadre will rejoice even when they lose support as it is proof that true democratic system is at work.
VOTE HHHHHHHH we need young and presentable president
Amanofye yabukaponya,ba pf
I don’t agree with the professor. This election is about effecting change and getting rid of corruption, nothing else. The only thing the MMD government has been able to accomplish is hastely come up with development projects to blind the electorate. In three weeks time we shall know who is doing a good job.
foolish stuff from times of Zambia and letter on picked up by another MMD Vuvuzela Lusaka times.ask that Bbaala to tell us were is he basing his facts from? PF is now more stronger than MMD even in rural areas were MMD was once popular.let me remind Mr Don that, there is nothing wrong with taking somebody to court including RB even if it is near election time.the issues PF have so far risen are of important nature that it can only take someone who is so blinded by corruption to condemn such good moves.Let the court clear all those alligations they ve risen and who so ever is involved will be set free by the courts. No need to fear Mr Bbaala YOU MMD Cadre
hot air and MMD propaganda !
MMD supporters and leaders you are going to come back to earth by the end of september !!
and the fall will be terrible … :-)
pf was caught napping..they are not ready…viva RB11&20HH..

Forgive him, he doesn’t know what he is talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SOURCE OF NEWS – TIMES OF *****S
Even on 21 sept you will doubt when they announce MMD has won.
Speaking from a lecture theatre.
Never mind the source of the news…is it not true? Mr Bbaala is asking the people to scutinise the manifestos of the parties…Hahaaaaa…that is a joke, UNIP and PF share the same manifesto. It is also true that the opposition can never campaign on issue based arguments because they cant talk about roads, schools, hospitals, bridges, clinics, boreholes etc etc because RB has been doing this. The only arguments are based on lies, slander, manipulation of the less intelligent, hook and crook tactics and so on. It true, this time PF goes down big time like never before.
The complaints of PF and the violence by MMD are bad for our democracy. On one hand ,The PF want to setup enough ground to reject the results , on the other hand the MMD are employing violence to intimidate opponents from campaigning freely. These two parties are bad for our democracy. we want real change
I agree with the UNZA don in that PF popularity is wanning off but not with the lame reasons he has given. Sata’s health is the main reason because he has covered less ground in this campaign and is unlikely to go everywhere given his state. Chanda Chimba has also given a major blow to the outspoken PF leader’s credibility or moral standing. Poor performance of PF MP’s is the third factor . Fourth factor is the lack of conducting issue based campaigns. Zambians have increased their appetite for issues and not just insults. Given the bad behaviour in past months , it is expectedd that the popularity will dwindle even further
A vote for UPND is a vote for Peace. MMD aer using violence to intimidate opponents ehile PF are using their media coverage and every execuse in the book to discredit the coming elections so that they have reason to cry that elections were rigged. They want people to be aggitated and run to the streets and perharps get a govt of national unity. Be vigilant vote for UPND for Peace so that both MMD and PF are left without ammunition to fun violence
Simply put, Mr. Bbala is an MMD sympathiser and has expressed his opinion just like PF UNZA lecturers have and will continue to give super focused views of PF programs for the country once in govt.
Support for PF is still growing
Ok — thats the new way of conducting an election analysis—– just wake up—look to the sky and give reasons. I was looking for a poll — backing the “analysis” but could not seen any.
Vote HH for Peace and Devt of this Country.
#24 Pakuboko: I agree with your analysis. It was Eleanor Roosevelt who once said: “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people”. PF is increasingly being viewed as a party of small-minded people, because their campaign is primarily focussed on people and not issues.
If you do an independent investigation on this Bla Bla Bla called Mr Bbaala, you will discover that he is connected to the RUPIAH Banda’s family by family marriage. He is on the MMD payroll. He is just a MONKEY who just grabs food from fields he never tilled before.
This chap is a sakala…Let him go and say those words at the monk square…HE WILL BE STONED…DO U KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING?????? COZ OF MMD
Bretheren, I enjoy reading your comments, but if you can just improve on your language. All supporters of political parties are Zambians so viva PF MMD UPND & others, I will vote for one of you.
Pls convince me with good language, not insults. I LOVE ZAMBIA
PF has now lost the confidence of the youths…what more? we are surely winning the election as MMD and we will beat PF in all its so called strong holds
The only stronghold MMD has is Eastern Province and even there you will have a rough time beating PF. Else where the MMD will only be a close second. But you should forget about CB, Western , N/W and Southern
PF is finished already.
From the start, PF has been very weak on policy; shifting from one thing to another.
Little did I know that they had no constitution of their own but UNIP document.
How serious is PF kanshi?
PF based its campaign on an individual called SATA.
This is why the only issues they raised were ‘FLY-OVER BRIDGE’, ‘MAN OF ACTION’ and ‘CLEANING UTH’.
Now their policy cannot stand any more because they cannot compare with what RB has been able to do nationwide.
How can PF want to rule Zambia based on UNIP document which even UNIP itself has modified already.
PF therefore has the most outdated constitution and manifesto.
They have never stated the ‘HOW’ part of their 90 day development. It’s just a song.
Just as the health of Sata not promising so is the stakes for PF ….
Yes, this is good language. Now lest hear from PF,UPND & others before I could make a choice. Zambians are good people. Viva PF, MMD, UPND & others.
pf has lost 70% of its’ grip on the copperbelt and lusaka
pf are just cry babies and they know the wont win the elections
Thats some expert analysis from Bbaala. I m not suprised that Kaponyas have found that hard to swallow. PF only exists in the simple and narrow minded people. I pity them.
If you have read through the UNIP manifesto, then lucky you, you dont need to bother reading the PF one, they are the same.
By the way, where is Father Bwalya with his failed red card project.
Ok, sorry PF the fact is it is impossible to campaign effectively without any campaing materials..this is true even in developed countries.
Some of you MMD supporters are just making these comments on feelings. What is obtaining on the ground is different. Dont THINK that because you have spent alot on chitenges and muscians you are travelling with that you will win elections. Generally MMD should be very worried because RB hasnt added any value to you. People are annoyed with MMD because its corrupt and arrogant! So change is coming like it or not. I mean who would want to live with that Party for the next Five years?!
Even if it were true, it is difficult to believe Bbaala because of his open MMD support. As a result he has reduced his analysis to cadre talk.
#42 The XXX,
Your wish sounds like a very comforting message to you and the PF colleagues.
If wishes were horses!!!!!
Times of Zambia ?
mmd is wining no matter wht
People are not annoyed with the MMD..which people are u talking about? and dont blame our strategy..our chitenges are for all MMD memebers and we love to look good in our regalia..RB has brought tones of value to the MMD..i invite u to visit presidentbanda.com website and see what RB has done so far
XXX #42, I respect your steadfast support for your beloved party. However, if I were you I would be more realistic about the outcome of these elections. Just because you believe, and I am convinced that deep-down you know PF is losing, does not make it so.
You are better off acknolwedging that you have an uphill struggle and finding solutions to PF’s demise rather than burying your head in the sand. PF lost itself this election among the reasons the arrogance of the PF leaders. For example, you have Kabimba totally undermining his colleagues with all the lost court cases. He should be capaigning, but alas. And there is a whole catalogue of blunders that people are now beginning to see for themselves. The PF consitution…..
I see an up hill for MMD than it is for PF. There are alot of blunders that RB has made in his office. Probably you have fogotten but i need not to refresh your memory. Lets see how u fair next month.
chweeechweeechwweeeee
Pipo are nolonger interested in sata and his kamimba, sorry kabimba
#47 Only fools and corrupt minded people can be happy with such a wastefull and corrupt MMD. People who feeding from the devils table will always have un clean consious.

Fine- You are just anti Sata. Sata has never been a president. Compare the two on their performances when the served in the Gonernment. How many times was Sata fired because of poor performance? and many times was the man fired and why. 90 Days is even too much for sata. Just waste and you will smile very soon.
Bbaala has not carried out any survey to back his claim with empirical evidence. This guy is nothing but a very lazy pseudo-political scientist. We know he majored in Public Administration and did some bit of political science. Which is why he cannot probably carry out any empirical study to back his spurious claims. Looking at his usual pattern of outbursts against the PF, people would be excused to speculate this pseudo-scientist is just looking for a job from Rupiah. But there are certainly more dignified ways of doing so as an academic through serious academic work. He is only showing to all and sundry how hollow he is an an academic. He belongs to the same group as Simutanyi who goes claiming he has a Phd when the whole of UNZA knows he flank at Cambridge University.
It is only RB and HH (in alphabetic order) who seem to be seriously articulating issues concerning the next elections. Even the PF vuvzela, The Post seems to have lost faith in Sata and are also coniving to have the elections discredited. An electoral process is only as good as the interested parties can make it. There is no system that is perfect.

YES PF HAS LOST IT AGAIN.MR BUBALA IS RIGHT.PF”S GAME PLAN HAS FAILED .THEY HAVE TOO MANY EXCUSES TO MAKE IN THE COMING ELECTIONS.WHAT IS CLEAR IS THEY ARE ONLY LAYING GROUND TO REJECT THE OUTCOME OF THE 2011 ELECTIONS.THEY HAD TAKEN FOR GRANTED THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE.LOOK AT WHAT THEY PRESIDENT DECLARED AS ASSETS,7 GUNS AND SOME MONEY HERE AND THERE.THE PLAN IS TO SHOW THAT HE IS POOR AND ASSOCIATE HIMSELF WITH POOR PEOPLE.BUT WHAT DOES IT SHOW:IT SHOWS THAT MR SATA HAS A DIMINISHING CAPACITY TO CREATE WEALTH FOR HIMSELF AND THE COUNTRY.HE IS LIKE A COMPANY THAT HAS NOT MADE PROMISE FOR MANY YEARS AND YOU ARE TOLD TO BUY SHARES IN IT.WHAT HOPE HAVE YOU GOT THAT ONCE YOU BUY SHARE IT WILL MAKE PROFIT FOR YOU?YES THERE IS A DIMINISHING VALUE IN THE BOAT THIS YEAR.

PF clowns, when The Post writes fiction about Sata, that is gospel truth. Sata in The Post is The Knight in Shinning Armour riding a golden horse. He is Robin Hood. In reality Sata is a charlatan, a despot, a clown, an old withered serpent, a riff ruff.
oxmos.
From my understanding both PF and MMD have reached their mixmum popularity. however, the party with the ability to remain on top is most likely to win. my pridicted results are so moderate i picked the worst scenario for MMD. they might do better especially in Lusaka, southern, and copperbelt.
Sata my president?…my foot!…..never, how can I be led by a standard 4 and expect things to be right?
its this kind of shallow talk from DRs which make question the value of too much education.
Sata was more popular in the last election than this one. This time RB is going to sink the boat for G……PF may do better on the parliamentary candidates here and there, but that is about all, PF is good only as an opposition..as a pressure group. Givens Patel Lubinda is a tired man, he will see dust in Kabwata this year. The man is just but a noise maker who struggles to show some intelligence.

Get it from me as GS Sata is sick and he is not winning actually he told us in the central committee meeting that he is voting for RB VIVA RB NAFUTI NAFUTI.
AK your data is outdated
@ AK Most of your predictions are based on the 2008 election results but you fail to facto r in things like MMD violence in Mongu which has put sata and MMD in bad taste in Western province. You also undermine the defections of MP’s of ULP to UPND. You fail to factor in the influnce that the closing of a radio station belonging to UPND VP plays. IN central you fail to facto in that LPM is gone and Shaka’s is now UPND. You fail to factor in that HH has been campaigning and buildin g boreholes and School blocks in the region. You fail to factor in the fact that Muteka has not performed in Chibombo. You fail to factor in that MMD lost teo seats to UPND in N/W and that teta the vote swinger is gone. Recalculate please. I will send ou the correct numbers when i return .
Donkey, no wander the the university standards at the once mighty UNZA has gone to the dogs, when we were there lecturer would ever dare talk like that. Just resign and join the soon to be main opposition party MMD monkey A.S.S

Pakuboko thanks for the analysis. my assumption is that opinions do not drastically change. however, i factored in the effect of western province on MMD. in the previous election MMD had about 60% in western i have reduced their percent to about 45% and given 22% to milupi. i dont realy think that most votes in western province can go to PF or UPND. MMD is most likely to do well in LSK, copperbelt and southern province. giving them a very strong second position in these provinces and making them win the presidency. i have also tried to be as mean as possible on the MMD. but their perfomance might end up to be very outstanding this time
PF is their to lead the opposition and not GRZ.
PF will form the next government in the opposition as they have always done
PF has come to an end because I dont see PF standing after SATA retires from active politics.
How can a party manifesto be based on ‘Man of action’ and “fly-over-bridge”?
Life is progressing and we must see ideas coming up.
How does SATA produce new leaders and install the software called ‘Man of action” after he is retired?
I dont see PF existing after 2011; I dont think SATA will continue to desire punches even in his oldest of ages in 2016.
Honestly, so Sata wants to be rememebered as a man who withstood punches, right?
What an aim and goal to set for oneself?
Just because Bbaala is a lecturer in politics deosn’t mean he’s right. What has he based his statements on? His own delusions? PF has grown in popularity fro his own information. He’s just bitter that his preferred party is in the doldrums.
Ba Muzo (57). Well-spoken I agree totally with you. How can a social scinetist going around making such wild claims without empirical evidence? He is a disgrace to his institution. I wonder what his students think of him. I wouldn’t enrol in any of his courses even if they were the only ones available. Sebana wikute. Forward with PF. Donchi kubeba!
pf’s sata will be retiring this year..sad for you man..!pf will not be the same without you sata ..RIP..
AK with mature bloggers like you this country will go far. But factor in other things like the intimidation the MMD is using in Lusaka. I doubt that it will translate into votes perse. I will be very carefull. Whilest Milupi is a westerner i also do not think he will get so many votes. He has influence in Luena his home village but reports i get and comparisons in campaign frequency, coverage and response tells me that HH might do better than Milupi in western province. But even if Milupi does better. MMD will not be second but third. Whilest Sata has been strong in Lusaka. It has mostly been due to the excitement around his campaign and the branding machinery. Clearly this year you see more UPND than PF around Lusaka and the compunds are showing a lot of support for UPND
Lusaka times is an extension of “Times of Banda” & “Zambia Banda Mail”, nobody visits there diarhorea sites as a result they decided to bring there diarhorea on Lusakatimes.
What a shame, there is no way you guys can always be getting news from the same rubbish even a mad person does not always pick from the same rubbish bin.
