Zambia progressed to the final stage of the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers thanks to a helping hand from Togo today who beat visiting Swaziland 6-0 in Accra.
Four goals from Togo’s English based striker Emmanuel Adebayor ended Swaziland’s dreams of making history of advancing in a World Cup qualifier and to qualify to Africa Cup in Angola in two years time.
The wins sees Zambia stay top of Group 11 on 7 points, with Togo second on 6 points while Swaziland’s slump to bottom of the pool on 4 points after their fairy tale ride turned into a nightmare away in Accra this evening.
Zambia go into the final group draws to be made next month together with 19 other teams when all the 2nd round qualifying stage matches are completed today.

Story Updated
Thank you Tongo
Good times! Please FAZ, prepare the team adequately. LT, please report accurately. Zambia no one has qualified for the Africa Cup yet. 20 teams? The AFCON has 16!
Bushe cali ciyenga nangula nicidunu? I agree with you #2
We have qualified for the next group stage where the winners qualify automatically. For the others, its a long story. Lots of calculations.
HI
Twaluba Bana Togo?
Good, though gone are the days, the KK11 times, when Zambia could beat teams like Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, but today, even to beat Swaziland Zambia has to sweat blood. Maweeeeeee, Wake up guys, this is 2008.
ZAMBIA HAS QUALIFIED TO AFCON,INDEED BECAUSE THEIR SHOULD BE TEAMS TO BEAT AT THE TOURNAMENT AND Z IS SUCH.EQUALLY FORGET ABOUT WORLD CUP,JUST IMAGINE EGYPT IN OUR GROUP.THANKS ADEBAYOR AS A GUNNER.
This is real good news and a chance for Zambia to try leave a mark in the football world.
#2, Zambia has qualified to Afcon, Along with all other group winners. There were 12 groups and all group winner qualify for the Africa cup automatically and so do the two best runners up. These 14 teams join hosts Angola and defending Champions Egypt. The next draw will be for world cup Qualifiers and will have 5 Groups comprising all group winners and 8 best runners up. The five group winners will Qualify to SA 2010
If adebayor had come to the Lusaka Game, Togo could have sorted us out..we are finished soccerwise
What the are you writing about Lusaka Times? Zambia had qualified to the next stage on a head to head points when they beat Togo in Chililabombwe. And Togo might qualify on a head to head points with Swaziland. Even if Swaziland had beaten Togo 10 nil Zambia would still have quallified to the next round.
Next time find something important to right about. Learn to do your research and stop feeding the inocent blogers wroung information.
Imwe bonse, no one has qualified for anything. Infact Zambia might even fail to go the Africa Cup. The journey to qualification has just started for both the AFCON and WC. If you win your group you go to both tourneys. If you are second and best third loser you go to Afcon. Simple. Ba LT, employ journalists while you the owner concentrate on improving the site.
who is selecting the national players
#13. Tekanya. Talk about things you know. They have qualified to the AFCON championships and the next stage of the world Cup qualifiers. All now is left is the draw for WC.
twasanta bingi ba togo.lesa apeshe…
Kusakililaku ba Togo and you boys am taking you to Mauritius for a Holiday with you wives. Come to Mukulumpe Farms and get your Air Tickets and pocket Money
Our team team qualifies almost every season; poor finishing is the issue here. We are not even moved at this because goals will still catchup with them. Like it or NOT, the boys enjoy calculated football … just like this form of qualifying where one says: “let team A beat team Z and we draw with Team X and then when team J beats team Z, and we draw with it, Zambia qualifies!” …ma rubish! Grow up Chipolopolo boys! Why NOT just use the Junior team instead – just the way they are, no changes? They seem to perform better than their elder brothers.
Pa ZED ifitala. REad the rules at cafonlinedotcom. None of the teams have qualified to AFCN 2010 yet. The 20 teams qualify for the Third Round as stated below:
THIRD ROUND
We would like to remind you also that the 20 countries qualified for the third round will be drawn in five groups of 4 teams and the first three teams in each group will qualify for the final tournament of the 2010 CAN along the organising country (ANGOLA) .
It goes without saying that for the group of Angola, in case Angola qualifies for the 3rd round, the other three teams in its group will qualify automatically for the CAN 2010. The ranking of this group will be done to determine which team will qualify.
# 17. Kavindele for presid, their wives too? Eish! The players need to be careful otherwise when they get back from Mauritius we shall hear of divorce cases.
I SPOKE TO GOD LAST NIGHT HE SAID ,, SATA IS THE BEST MAN FOR THIS COUNTRY.. MAN OF ACTION NOT BULL TALK AND PROMISES..
#15 Mbuzi, forget the language used by #13 but he is right. Zambia has only qualified to the next round and nothing else. The second round which involved 48 teams divided into 12 groups of fours was meant to draw the 20 for the third round. The third round of 20 teams is divided into five groups of four. The top three qualify for Angola 2010 while the group leader plays alongside Sergio “Kun” Arguero and Ramagnoli in the World Cup.
“Zambia have qualified to the 2010 Africa Cup finals and the final qualifying stage of the World Cup thanks to a big helping hand from Togo today who beat visiting Swaziland 6-0 in Accra”.
please read before you comment and most importantly, understand
#21 GOD cannot be mocked so i hope you have the holy spirit as you type
Thank you Emmanuel for firstly not coming to Chililabombwe and secondly for going to Accra.
#12 The Man, you are always complaining about news and quality. I suggest you subscribe to Executive Issues and The Post where you may complain less. Let us appreciate LT because it is a free service.
#23 S.K.S, we have read and understood that LT got it wrong. Zambia has not qualified to the AFCON 2010 yet. We need to finish in the top 4 in the next round to make it and top the group to go to South Africa 2010.
Thank you Togo. Now ba FAZ no gambling get all the good player and work on the scoring machine. Wake up FAZ
lets remain focus & prepare for the group stages, the game has just
started.
thanks togo, but the boys need to work hard 4 the final round. make sure we have strong defence the likes of tana, sichone, clive e.t.c
Sorry in the top 3 of next round to make it to AFCON 2010,
#30. FAZ president, no Sichone in the team. This is 2008 and he is past it. Sinkala and Tana, yes.
mwabombeni ba togo. Now that we are going in the last stage of the SA 2010 and ANG.Let those who speak to kalu tell to will leave the technical bench do its job. Please strikers this is the chance to sell your God given talents.Viva Elijah Tana.
#29 Trompies ..Akasungu kalikubika mu chibe ai?
Some of you , your grammar is laughable.
You are what comes out of you, please check your spellings before you click ‘send’
The news is deceptive , and wrong! Zambia has not qualified to anything, the groups, that will be made, will mean zambia will have o finish in the top 3 to make it to the AFCON,as # 13 had said.
Sorry LT, would be nice if you edited your article
Reminds me of a guy called, Isaac Mulinda, i loved the guy, but with the news (footy) he was either sensationalise it, and was wide off the mark, to see him, on TV and hear him on radio was laughable (MHSRIP)
#35 You and I are in the UK. Fillipinos, Chinese, Indians and those from the eastern block still work and survive. Ho Ho Ho. Do not laugh at your friends.
Look at this from your post!
“Reminds me of a guy called, Isaac Mulinda, i loved the guy, but with the news (footy) he was either sensationalise it, and was wide off the mark, to see him, on TV and hear him on radio was laughable (MHSRIP)”
Ooppss! Shouldn`t have pointed it out
Guys please stop confusing yourselves. I said it a long time ago on the blog: Zambia qualified for the Nations Cup finals when they beat Togo in Chillies. This has nothing to do with head to head because this is no longer in use. However, whether Swaziland had beaten Togo or not, Zambia had secured qualification because they would have been runners-up with seven points. Check all the other groups and you will see that there are only four groups capable of having runners up with more than seven points. There are eight runners up berths on offer and Zambia already had secured one. When CAF refer to third round they are talking about third round of the World Cup qualifiers not the AFCON final
So Lusaka Times its not thanks to Togo that we qualified. Yes perhaps thanks to Togo for losing in Chillies!!!!
37,38. You need to read up! Its not as simple as you think.
Mr FAZ Kalusha Bwalya tell that ka muzungu to go tap talet from rural areas not just from Northern,Luapula provinces it is a NATIONAL TEAM we want.Western Province can produce good defenders not shorts from the Congo forest.
Rogue Trader #39 I understand you. Since the Nations cup finalists are usually 16 it means there should now be five groups that should comprise four teams each. These should give us three qualifiers each for the Nations cup finals plus the hosts. The CAF website doesnt explain this. However my main point still stands: that Zambia did not need any help from Togo to qualify to this next round. They had already qualified by beating Togo.
So our coach should know that he has to win the next group-like he did this group!
The only way Zambia can qualify before kicking a ball is by being drawn in the same group as Angola. In other groups we would have to avoid ending at the tail end of our group.
Lusaka Times Zambia qualified the day the beat Togo 1-0.What we we were waiting for was to know whether we were going to qualify as Group winners or second best losers. Even if Togo lost yesterday we would have still qualified as second best losers. Most of the teams who have qualified as second best losers have done so with 6points but Zambia is on 6points.
So to suggest that Zambia qualified because of Togo is totally wrong.Irrespective of the results in our Group yesterday we would have still qualified.
Sorry Zambia is on 7Points not 6 Points as i said in my earlier post.
Let me put it this way. No team has qualified to Afcon yet. We have all just come out of PRELIMINARY QUALIFIERS. we are now into the final group stage and MUST win games to qualify. The way I explained it as no. 13 is the way it is. So tell FAZ to be serious or else the national team will be with us in the club cheering Angola. Argue as much as you may but thats the position.
Second stage
The 20 teams that qualify for the second group stage will be drawn in five groups of four teams.
The group winners qualify for the 2010 World Cup, but should hosts South Africa win a group, there will be a recalculation to determine the team that goes to the World Cup.
All results against South Africa would be erased and a new table calculated.
HOPE THIS QUIETS EVERYONE DOWN THIS IS AS PER BBC WEBSITE
goodluck to zambia
The first three teams in each group will qualify for the 2010 Nations Cup.
If Angola reach the second group stage, the three teams drawn in their group will automatically qualify for the Nations Cup.
Well done Zambia. Lets hope we can win the cup this time.
# 37. Soccer Fan No2, the argument that Zambia has qualified to AFCON 2010 in Abgola is what the other guys are disputing. No team has qualified to AFCON yet. The FIFA website explains clearly.
LT, why are you hiding my comments?
Its a gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!, Zambia, Zambia, Zambia. Gone are the days
You thought because great Kalu was a good scoarer would be great administrator.
We must make it to the world cup next door in S.A.
LT, cant you do us a favour by confirming the correct position with FAZ and other bodies? It is not fair that people should be arguing over an issue that should otherwise be very simple if only stated by the right authority. Its more fruitful to debate opinions… not facts!!
aha! imwe mwebantu imwe,me i thought by beating togo zambia qualified to the world cup semi finals? But can’t Kalusha bwalya use his experience to try and talk to Blater of fifa so that atleast we can be allowed to play or even in the world cup quarter finals? You know guys ifintu ifi kwesha kofye,,,,kuti mwadabwa fye ati fyabomba! haaa! anso ninshi yapasa bakamba! zambia in semis!?maybe against brazil or even against Luxenburgh or against virgin islands its ok!please kalusha do something pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Zambian qualification always end’s up with serious mathematical probabilities. We should learn from Nigeria and cameroon that qualify well in advance with one or two games to spare (try out other players chance).
We have a perenial failure to score goals. It was exhibited U20 defeat to Egypt in our own back yard. where we used the senior team fronline. we need to improve to perform were crucially it matters.
The Preliminary games have been concluded. the 20 teams that have gualified to next phase will be drawn into 5 groups of 4 teams each.
The winner of each group will go to world cup and the best 3 teams will go to AFCON in Angola (to make 16 including the host).
So the bigger job has just began, we are not seeded meaning we have chance to be in same group with N9ja, Egypt, Cameroon, Togo etc.Preparation should start now.
#55 Anatola IV: Very funny my friend. no corruption that side ka. takwaba efyo!!!!!!!!
#47, South Africa will not play in the group stages as they failed to qualify to the group stages. No more participation for Bafana in african tournament until 2010.
I knew Zambia were going to top the group after beating Togo. There was no way Swaziland were going to win in West africa, thats just impossible. Zambia was biggest footballing Nation in the group Period!
Us who are not good at meathematics, will have to be guided to know wthether Zambia has qulified or not. I only know that Zambia has qulified if they win. Soccer in Zed means maths!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No 19, you are lost. That stage is already gone. That’s the stage which all the teams have just been through. Now, whoever is No one in each group has qualified to the Africa cup, and the next round is for qualification to the world cup.
even if we have qualified, we are going there just to help other teams progress to the next round. shame and sorry.
hard work is needed,we nid to prepare adquately.
You are only talking about Zambia, Swaziland and Togo which is the fourth team.
No insult please COSAFA is our field. AFCON i dont know.World Cup our dream. Those in power should invest please. Otherwise stop dreaming pa Zed and wake up.
we v just started, but renald is just a fitness trainer n not futbo coach. thats y he condemed mbesuma too much about his fitness, but getlemen, futbo is all about endurance n not ukokosa coz players r denied that flexibility a skilled player e.g. zidane was never that physical but just flexible n delivered. damme zambia, we even go an extra mile by employing another a p.e. teacher. katwishi, naba kalu as faz president. we know how kalu likes akanono
#2 please read the story again b4 you judge LT harshly. It sayz “Zambia progressed to the FINAL STAGE of the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers thanks to a helping hand from Togo today who beat visiting Swaziland 6-0 in Accra”. Nowhere does it say Zambia has qualified to the AFCON.
Hi guys do not want to pick on any #. Pls catch this. No team has qualified to the Afcon-Angola or WC-South Africa yet. The top teams 12 from this round and 8 best 2nd teams will make 20 teams go to the next round, 4 in each group of 5.
The top teams that is 5 plus South Africa, (host) qualify to the WC and the top 3 teams in each group that is 15 plus Angola (host) qualify to the Afcon-Angola.
Hope this helps.
#69 i totally agree with you and you surely know what you are talking about….its a pity that some people dont understand the system….all the best Zambia!!!!!!!!!!
If Togo qualified on 6 points as one of the best runners up, zambia could still have gone ahead even if swaziland had betten Togo. so LT your headline is a bit off!
its good we have qualified but we need to strengthen our team lets engage players like fwayop tembo to help up front with mbesuma this will be a competitive stage.
CHEERS ZAMBIA GO AHEAD PLEASE……………………….
its gud to qualify but emmanuel tembo should stop saying students have endorsed r.b wat is wrong with this tembo character he is not even ashamed of himself!
Our qualification was never in doubt after beating Togo.Question was whether we’ll top the group or not. The 20 teams who have qualified will be drawn into 5 groups of 4. Top 3 teams qualify for Angola 2010 with the group leaders qualifying for SA 2010. As for Zed, we need to serous this time and start preparations now. FAZ need to arrange friendlies with strong teams. The coach should look at Fwayo Tembo and give him some games. He’s better than Mayuka and Kola
6-0 is too much for swazilznd! Any way that is soccer.by the way were the swazis training for this match? shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank God we now all know Zambia must work hard to have any realistic chance of qualifying to both tourneys.
However SA and Angola are not factors anymore as both are out of the next stage.
68. I read and understood the story. LT updated that article in the evening after realising their mistake. Read the editors note. At least they are human unlike the post who think they dont make mistakes.
#65.umwanakashi- your observation is interesting but I guess you’re not so interested in zambian soccer bcoz zambia’s group 12 only had 3 teams…..the 4th team-Eritrea or Ethopia pulled out/expelled.
we have qualified to the second round not to AFCON yet
#79 thanx for your information.
Let us give our national team all the support it deserves although we all know that they don’t stand up to the occasion where it matters most…maybe we need much more serious administration of the sport if we are to move to greater heights in terms of soccer. What happened to the U-20 is a shame.
WE AINT QUALIFIED YET. SO NO DRINIKING CHCIBUKU AS YET BANGWELE IMWE!!! CONTINUE THE PREPS…
Now is the time to make a strong team.Thanx to Togo
WE WILL MAKE OUR DEBUT APPEARANCE WORRY NOT,WE DON’T NEED TO THANK TOGO,4 WAT?WE SIMPLY HAVE TO THANK THE CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS 4 QUALIFYING,ZED NI DOWN.
