I’ll use my salary to assist vulnerable youths- HH

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) leader, Hakainde Hichilema, has said he will use his salary to assist vulnerable youths in society if elected as Republican president in the October 30 polls.

Mr Hichilema said that he was seeking the Republican presidency so that he could serve the people of Zambia.
He said this when he addressed a rally at Kaunda Square grounds in Isoka yesterday.

“When you vote for us in office, we will work for you. I will use my salary to contribute to the youth,” Mr Hichilema said.

The UPND leader also said he would cancel the Presidential Emoluments Bill as well as the Constitutional Office Holders’ Bill so that the money could be channeled to the agriculture sector.

The bills seek to increase salaries and gratuity for the president, vice-president, speaker, ministers and the deputy ministers and other constitutional officer holders.

Such money, Mr Hichilema said, would be used to buy fertiliser and other agricultural inputs, which would be later distributed free of charge to farmers.

“When you elect us on October 30, we will cancel that bill and relocate the money to the agriculture sector so that you can have fertiliser and other inputs,” Mr Hichilema said.

If the people of Isoka love themselves, he said they should vote for the UPND as it was the only party that could improve their welfare.

Mr Hichilema said the UPND had a realistic and workable manifesto, and urged the people of Isoka not to vote for another party.

  18. Country men and women, lets not necessarily talk about money and presidency but lets encourage people to work hard in order to earn a living. Political leaders should help people realise that Govt is just a faclitator to help citizens in their hard working achieve what they want.

    If they dont tell people the truth they will have a problem when elected in office. Leaders should not promise to give out money but help people generate their money.

    Let our compaign be truth based otherwise we will have a problem at the end. Go on but carefull with your promises.

  24. The problems with Zambians is that they dont take time to research on things before making utterances. HH has been successful because of his will and ability. Alot of Zambians bought companies during privatisation. How many companies are thriving? Some Companies under ZAH Holdings that included Eagle travel, Zamcargo, etc where bought on management buy-out. Where are they? The managers failed to run them. HH managed and today you call him a thief.
    Refusing to vote for him will see Zambia stagnant for the next 50 yrs.

    Some people here are saying he does not pay his workers well i say yes the cost of running a business in Zambia is high with high taxes even if you want to pay your workers well you can’t. In other companies he only has shares and not in charge of increasing salaries.

    Western is actually very pro MMD 65-70%. The young man has not had the impact of the late Great Andy Mazoka.

    Lusaka MMD likely to take 25-30% and reduce PF to 45-50%

    You have been too generous to PF in Luapula & Northern 55% is more realistic. (rebel MPs not campaigning for Sata, non-Bemba tribes in Northern are not pro Sata)
    You have also been too generous to PF in North Western 5% is more in line with the situation.
