TEN vehicles have been seized from three traders and a civil servant in Kalomo in a crackdown on the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) maize thefts.
The seized vehicles included an unregistered Freelander, two Prado Land Cruisers, four Freightliner horses, two refrigerated Volvo trucks and one unregistered BMW.
All the vehicles are currently parked at Kalomo Police Station.
Joint Government Investigative Wing acting Public Relations Officer Namukolo Kasumpa confirmed the seizure of the vehicles and that the trio was being investigated.
The investigations into the FRA maize scam would be extended to all parts of the country.
“The vehicles were seized in connection to the FRA maize fraud.
The three men and a lady are being investigated for having received payments from different FRA depots in Kalomo for maize which they never supplied,” she said.
A woman working for Zambia National Service (ZNS) is alleged to be the owner of one of the Volvo refrigeration trucks.
The mother of the woman was earlier arrested in connection with the maize scam and would appear in a Kalomo magistrate’s court today.
In the same maize fraud, police have detained Victor Hamuvwimi, 32, an FRA buyer of Kalemu depot in Ndudumwezi area to assist in the on-going investigations.
Mr Hamuvwimi of Zimwidele Village, Chief Chikanta’s area, in Kalomo District is alleged to have failed to account for 30,000 bags of maize worth about K1.9 billion all of which were in his custody.

When people speak up and stated that Zambian government institutions are rotten to the core in terms of thefts, frauds and corruption, some of you start vomiting unpalatables. This country needs a very serious corruption fighting team. This team should be well paid to make them beyond reproach and they should be well trained in undertanding corruption, unearthing corruption, documenting evidence in the most prolific manner and fighting the corrupt to get convictions. No wonder the price of mealie meal never goes down despite 3 consecutive bumper harvests! These criminals are not only robbing the state, they are also kiling poor innocent children and adults with malnutrition. Why enshrine ‘christian nation’ in our constitution, when thieves are rampant among us??? I am very pissed!

Where would a woman working for ZNS manage to find funds to procure an over K1 billion Volvo refrigerated truck. Not even her charged former commander, had that kind of money. Please, investigate this woman on a serious note and find out where she got the money from because seriously even if she had worked for 2000 years, she still would not even have made half that amount. CORRUUUPTION. Investigate the soldier.
