Opposition political parties have challenged the Law Association of Zambia to state the provisions of the law it has used to bar lawyers in the country from debating the suspension of the three Judges by President Michael Sata.

Speaking during a joint media briefing in Lusaka this morning, Heritage party president Godfrey Miyanda who spoke on behalf of the opposition political parties said it is ridiculous for LAZ to bar the lawyers in the country from commenting on the suspension of the 3 judges.

Brigadier General Miyanda noted that it is not fair for LAZ to bar individual lawyers from debating the matter adding that the move amounts to impediment on the freedom of expression.

[pullquote]the opposition in the country is not against the corruption fight but that they are concerned with the manner in which corruption is being fought[/pullquote]

And General Miyanda noted that the opposition has been misunderstood that it is trying to cause anarchy in the country by uniting and meeting other stakeholders in the country.

General Miyanda says it is within their constitution right to unite and speak with one voice on issues bordering on national interest.

He notes that the opposition in the country is not against the corruption fight but that they are concerned with the manner in which corruption is being fought.

General Miyanda noted that the opposition have condemned the manner in which the three judges were suspended saying the President did not follow the laid down procedures.

The opposition leaders have questioned why the Solicitor General and the minister of finance and national planning allegedly wrote to Development Bank of Zambia asking the institution to write-off the debt owed by the Post newspapers limited and JNC investment holdings.

And brigadier General Miyanda has vowed that the opposition will continue engaging with the various stakeholders including diplomats to discuss issues of national interest.

He said diplomats are at liberty to meet opposition political leaders in the country because they also do intelligence works for their respective countries.

General Miyanda has since condemned President Sata for indicating that the diplomats should stay away from the internal affairs of Zambia saying the statement amounts to threats.

He has stressed that the opposition will not stop expressing their views and has challenged the ministry of information and broadcasting to facilitate for debates on ZNBC.

Other opposition leaders that were present at the briefing included UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema ADD’s Charles Milupi, MMD acting president Michael Mabenga and ULP’s Sakwiba Sikota.

  1. Imwe baMiyanda. There were more spoilt votes than people who voted for you and you want to be taken seriously? The only people you represent is your frustrated self.

The provision of the law that LAZ used to tell lawyers not to comment is COMMON SENSE which you clearly do not have.

As much as diplomats are at liberty to meet the opposition, the government is also at liberty to deport meddling foreigners out of the country. Given Lubinda is not being silent for no reason. The cobra is preparing to strike. If this opposition / diplomats thing continues, someone will be packing bags.

It would be better to wait to hear the tribunal findings before barking up the wrong tree. WHAT IS IT THAT THE OPPOSITION ARE SO SCARED OF THAT THEY CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS??

  2. Gen Miyanda, your hatred for President Sata is well known, we have not forgotten how you refused to shake his hand when he was in the opposition. Am sure your hatred still colours your judgement………..as for the other guy………

  3. Gen. Miyanda, due to your individualistic culture, you lost the respect and support its therefore too late for your political come back.
My understanding of this Nchito-Mmembe & DBZ issue is not the refusal to pay back the K14Billion, but the manner in which the whole case was handled by the Judiciary/Judges with suspicions of obstruction which could have led to the perversion and circumvention of justice.
We surely want them to account the public funds borrowed through fair administration of justice in our Court system and not with the view to fix individuals by certain judges. Its very dangerous

  4. what a general you have no impact on the zambian politics since your only relative don’t vote for you .nashala neka pantry not party. bola panshi ba opposition .ama diplomats they don’t . bambuli kwena twamibutusha tamulela noku lala .pwetetepwetete . viva uncle sata dont listen to fake generals with tuntemba party.

  5. Mmembe and Nchito where is the 14 billion…. u r busy calling Liato a thief! Who are the BIG thieves?Zambian Airways still owes me $500 refund for the aborted flight to and from DAR..BA KABOKE IMWE!

  6. Miyanda should shut his big mouth up. He has no mandate of any kind to speak on behalf of Zambians. How many times has he been shamefully rejected by the voters and today he thinks he can stand up and speak. This man has no sense of shame. To borrow the Bible statement, “MMD we know them and H.H under five we know him but who are you Miyanda? which people do you represent? Plz go to the farm coz you dont understand politics at all. YOU LACK WISDOM.

  7. If judgement has already been served, why cant lawyers debate it let alone citizens? What state are you creating? Gen Miyanda could have lost respect to some gullible cadres but what he has said needs serious attention from sane minds.

  8. Nchito’s appointment was ratified not withstanding all the issues being raised now. Too late. Let the tribunal decide with or without diplomats.

  9. The opposition is exhibiting political immaturity. They are too much in a hurry to try and discredit PF and President Sata and hope to gain recognition through that. But you do not seem to be picking on the right issues for that purpose. Please start telling the people what the PF govt is not doing that you think you can do. In my view you are not giving PF enough rope to hang itself.

  10. No-one is perfect on this planet so PF should accept and let the opposition do their part in conjunction with Diplomats . If they are unfairly criticizing PF government still people will judge. On the other side of the coin criticism is genuine just accept and make some changes to suite the Opposition. For instance the number of CEOs seems favorably towards tribal-grouping ,the fuel delivery contracts,Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) issue, unemployment rate [people are desperate],low salaries and unchanged Chinese hostile working environment

  11. Ati ubuteko? Zambia in wrong hands as a result no develomenatal programm. wait and see how fools finish themselves. Sata and his cabinet, awe kwena bwafya. regerttig at every stage

  12. to our political leaders it seems that u ve concentrated and wasting much time on fighting govt over the suspension of 3 judges which add less value to common man on the street. i would be better u spend more time on educating the people on the constitution because time is not with us.

  13. Dear Bloggers
There is an advert that pops up on the top right hand corner on Lusaka Times featuring a cartoon and announcing a woman who has discovered anti aging creams. When you click on it it advertises two anti aging creams. Do not fall for the free offer of the products ReliftXS and another called Derma Science Anti aging crème. The products do not exist and The website offering it is fake.

  14. THIS GEN. ALWAYS TALKS S.H.I.T. WHEN IS MIYANDA GOING TO TALK SENSE? THESE GENS. WHO NEVER SAW THE BATTLE FRONT ARE ALWAYS DAY DREAMERS. MIYANDA, LET IT BE DRUMED INTO YOUR EARS THAT YOU HAVE NO MANDATE FROM THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA. WHY DON’T YOU JUST CONCENTRATE ON RUNNING YOUR KA CHARITY IN KABWATA. YOU ARE NOT A POLITICIAN AT ALL. LET ALONE GEN.ROLL. IF YOU WHERE AT LEAST A GEN YOU WOULD SEING THRU THINGS IN ORDER TO STRATEGISE. WE ARE LUCKY NO WAR HAPPENED DURING YOUR JANE-ROLLSHIP. COS WE WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY BEEN BATTERED…

    • No mwanawesu. We still had the the combat tested late Lieutenant General Christon Tembo who was more senior to this Admin Brigadier General (a kalaliki). This man is an embarassement and and MHSRIP peace, for my late brother is surely turning in the grave over the stupidity of his never would ever be president.

  15. …JUST AN ADVICE TO ALL IN OPPOSITION IF YOU HAVE EARS. PLEASE, DON’T RUN TO DIPLOMATICS TO GO AND SHED CROCODILE TEARS. RUN TO VOTERS- ZAMBIANS. DIPLOMATS DON’T VOTE. AND IN THE FIRST PLACE THOSE DIPLOMATS CAN SEE THRU YOUR STEW-PEE-DITY. COS IN THEIR OWN RESPECTIVE COUNTRIES SUCH THINGS CAN’T HAPPEN. THAT DIPLOMAT OR A GROUP OF DIPLOMATS WOULD BE DEPORTED FOR MEDDLING IN THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS THEIR COUNTRY/IES. IMWE FI CIMBWI MULETUSEBANYA SANA. MULEYA KU MA DIPLOMATS MUKULILA ATI “NABATUTANA UBWALI”. YOU HAVE NO SHAME ON YOURSELVES, DO YOU?..

  16. ..JANE-ROLL SURE YOU CAN’T SENSE THAT TWO UNDER FIVE GAVE THAT TO TALK ON THEIR BEHALF BECAUSE THE WHOLE THING IS SIMPLY STUU.PID, IN ORDER TO EMBARASS YOURSELF ESPECIALLY THAT YOU DO NOT REPRESENT ANYONE APART FROM YOURSELF. IT’S SAD THAT WE HAVE NO OPPOSITION IN ZAMBIA. BUT, JUST A BUNCH OF LU.NAR.TICKS. ANYWAYS HATS OFF MAYBE TO YOUNG CHIPIMO, THOUGH HE IS ALSO SLOWLY JUMPING ON THE BAND WAGON THSES PEOPLE.

  17. The General has been advised to keep minutes of his meetings with HH. Very timely indeed. @23, the man is being used by HH. He is used to sleeping until its election time. I wonder who pays for his nomination fees.

  18. Diplomats can meet with opposition no problem, but when opposition goes crying for help to diplomats they should close the door. Meanwhile with mad secessionists seeking to complain to diplomats, diplomats should call police for advice not invite them for discussions

  19. Yaba Zambians with fake names are a problem. If you want to attack the General come out in the open with your real names. The man has spoken with a lot of sense with respect and authority as usual. Zambians you just love people who cheat and tell them lies. No wonder you will never see real development.

  20. Well spoken General. Very valid points, and any mature reader can see that your points are issue based. We need a mature issue-based opposition to compensate for an immature character-based Govt for the greater good of our Country. So, keep it up.

  21. Great points Gen. lets hope those muppets at LAZ, SG TIZ lufweko will use whats between their ears and not in their back pocket.

  22. This is why the rule of law fails in African countries. We tend to confuse emotive issues with statutory matters. So far no one seems to be able to state categorically that what the President has done is illegal and worthy of impeachment. I can now see why we consistently defend thieves especially after they have outlived their hey days.

  23. Week minds have no idea where the nation is headed if we continue to move on this path.
Intelligent minds can see already where we are going.
Weak minds are still in their election after-math celebration gear with their vitenges batch, coiled, threaded and wound around their waists; shaking from one side to another – back and forth. Never tiring they continue to bath in their own sweat which results from their vigorous dance of PF victory celebration.
They are like excited little children who, after a nice party, fail to realise that the music has stopped and so they continue to instinctively shake their bodies as they remember the rythm. In their minds the music never stops. What a shame!!

  24. May God help us deal with all injustices, and our country stop being a loughing stalk.
May those who plot evil be incapacitated in their endeavors.
May those who pursue selfish motives at the expense of others meet with a rough road.
May those that undermine the humanity of others find no joy in doing so.
May they that manipulate others skid on their own manipulation and may their path become exceedingly sliperly.
May the way of those that pursue righteousness prosper.
May those that love all other citizens be successful in everything they do so that all may benefit.
May every Zambian be rescued from the hand of the devil.
May all who have resolved to work with the devil against our nation – let them fall together with the devil.
Let God arise and his enemies be scattered!!!

  25. The capacity with which one issue is mismanaged is a proxy for how all other issues shall be mismanaged. Entree Barotseland. The manner in which the Barotseland issue is being mismanaged is a clear demonstration of how all other pertinent national issues shall be mismanaged. It doesnt take TB Joshua. Now Zambians can cry foul and insult Gen Miyanda who is expressing genuine points. My goodness.

  26. But when will the african politicians growup have you ever heard that america went to diplomats to complain, or france or rassia or german , what a shame if you want to complain go to the electorate the zambian people, go in the streets and demonstrate you dont work for diplomats you work for zambians

  27. general miyanda are you an opposition leader for sure?i don’t even know you party.you are the roan Paul of Zambia

  28. PF was in opposition just a few months ago, they are on record interacting with Diplomats. PF is may be worried about the lies told to Diplomats, it is your turn to be on the receiving end of the lies.
