Former Republican President, Rupiah Banda has come to the defence of the heavily criticized country’s judiciary.
Mr. Banda, whose close associates have been a target of the enhanced fight against corruption by the new regime, feels the attacks on the judiciary are uncalled-for and unnecessary.
With particular reference to President, Michael Sata, Mr. Banda contends the country’s judiciary remains one of the most viable organs of governance currently.
He adds it is the same judiciary that the incumbent President Sata sought intervention from when aggrieved on matters of national interest.
Mr. Banda has since asked politicians to respect other organs of governance and stop being double standards in fulfilling their personal egos.
The Former Head of State said this at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on arrival from Lesotho, where he led an election observation mission team under the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA).
[pullquote]Mrs Katanga said that Police will not issue the UPND with a permit because the case is before the courts of law.[/pullquote]
Meanwhile, Police have warned the United Party for National Development -UPND- not to go ahead with their planned demonstrations over the suspended judges.
Lusaka Province Police Commissioner, Charity Katanga said that if the UPND decide to continue with the demonstration, it will be at their own peril.
Mrs Katanga said that Police will not issue the UPND with a permit because the case is before the courts of law.
Mrs Katanga was speaking in an interview with ZNBC.
The UPND has threatened to hold demonstration on June 6 over the suspension of the three judges that were suspended by President Michael Sata.
President Sata suspended three High Court judges Nigel Mutuna, Charles Kajimanga , and Supreme court judge Philip Musonda and consequently appointed a tribunal to probe them against misconduct.

RB the best you can do is shut up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hahahahahahahaha you have made my day.
RB just like any other Zambian has the right to give an opinion in the way that you do. All we need to do is to respect each others’ opinion and all will be well in Zambia. But now, it is becoming so difficult for others to speak in fear of being insulted. Lets be as people of the same land sharing both happiness and misfortunes. I thank you.
The same Katanga refused to give “Students” who wanted to camp at the Courts grounds saying their application was at short notice. With the UPND’s application, she gives another reason, that the matter is before the courts of law, talk about double standards..
The ‘students’ wanted to protest against Ernest Sakala’s continued occupation of the Chief Justice’s office. As far as I am concerned, Sakala does not have a case in court. The UPND intend to protest against the suspension of judges, a matter that is before the courts of law. So, there is no double standards on the part of the police. If you expected the police to give similar justification for different cases, then you expected too much, to put it respectfully!
Thanks Nameless;
That’s what blogging is all about; educating each other. If it were some other people, they would have lashed insults on me, but you have put your message across in a mature manner, big ups…
But Umwana balikata. Tuzachita chian
Polite words elude me to respond to anyone that says that the judiciary is a viable state organ!! Either he too is corrupt, inept or complicit.
I’VE
NO
KIND
WORDS
FOR
THIS
F.OOL
!
Blind support! The president is bringing shame to the country. This could’ve been resolved in a better way than always bringing foreigners to do things for us. Also sata must know that he is not the only person who knows the law in Zambia He should consult on most issues. After all he is not the most intelligent nor most educated zambian
You are an *****
u had your time now give the pf govt time……….your oppinions RB are outdated
This man dubiously aquitted FTJ. Our Stolen money was buried the day FTJ was buried.
RB is the reason 4 da judicial mess.i equally hav no kind words 4 da ***** RB
you have brought you name into disrepute….harambeee..shut the f!ck up old man…
Mr RB just keep quiet and let PF clean the judiciary. You used the hudiciary for your own gain.
iwe mambala nkalachabe zee milandu mu family zikali ku bwela .don’t think you are still in power you are the next to collapse over mpundu trust
I think police should allow them to go ahead so that we see if they have numbers apart from southern and some parts of western province. We would love to see the turn out especially in the most important and influenial areas like Lusaka. Seeing their numbers and how genuine those numbers will be to their cause will be very interesting indeed, so that we put to rest whether indeed the UPND’s growth in popularity is just in the minds of a few UPND sympathisers or is reality, especially that “political heavyweights” like William Banda and Edward Mumbi have joined that party
he has come to feel the heat he left simmering.
you should have incarcerated chiluba and the other minions for raping our economy but alas, you dined with the devils and called them saints instead. we have not forgotten
i have noticed here that the bloggers have no capacity to think on thier own and come up with their personal oppions, each time the first blogers comment on any issue, the rest of foolish blogers will follow suit, why simply because they are all empty stupid fools.
vive RB
@lungowe my ass…………..
@lungowe – you are not alone feeling that way.
Ba Lungowe ninjala yami nyokolani olo bwanji……??? Just shut it plz twapapata!!!
Easy there, gay boy. You’re contradicting yourself with your partisan opinion … or is it oppions? Go learn how to spell!
RB sounds like he is still the president of Zambia, actually he still is. Bena Sata still sound like kaponyas, actually Sata is still a kaponya. When presidential material speaks, like RB has done, you even feel the authority and that atleast there is some brains in the head – there is gravitas. When Sata speaks he always sounds like a frustrated district governor, with a head full of water. In 2011, President RB took a retirement sabatical to go and teach Americans…so we are still waiting for a new president to take over. What and PF are doing is simply like children playing with guitars and drumsticks when the Band players are having a break.
I will ask the post newspaper to employ you on part-time basis
Your train of thought is what, TAZARA? RB and the MMD are a closed chapter in Zambian politics. I think you’ve stumbled onto the wrong story, buddy. Defenders of a corrupt former ruling party are OVER THERE camped outside Andrew Banda’s cell block.
I like your analysis, you can see the future…
Listen to all the PF DOGS barking! Can’t some of you have a mind of your own instead of peddling whatever M’membe puts on your table?
RB benefitted from the corrupt Judiciary and he is not right person to comdemn Sata over the suspension of the three Judges.
Number 15 Lungowe, I thought I was the only one who noticed the absence of individual anlysis among bloggers. It is no wonder they believe everything they read in the Post newspaper and use membes editorials to argue their cases on ZWD, LT and even in bars.
Two wrong chaps don’t make a right person. All Zambian presidents, starting from 1964 muli fipuba!
Although I can’t go as far as insulting them but I’ve to agree with you. Our presidents since 1964 have mispresided over us. They’ve made Zambia a missed opportunity to be a great nation.
Sad but your words are very true. Any that thinks other wise is only using 21.1% of their brains potential.
@Joseph Sakhar you yourself are the dog coz you dont appreciate what PF is doing. you are than a dog my friend
You open your mouth and insult your former head of state, you have no shame… the man is respected all over the world but not Zambians short sited FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mwana opezamo, you are right…. arguing without thinking. I love all my former Presidents and i respect them. i know they mayve done one or two things wrong but that should not be our focus.. The country is bigger than all of them. Zambia oye!
koma zoona ichi chimudala chilibe nzelu chi RB.
to hell with RB, he should be the last person to defend the judiciary considering the way he abused it. WTF can he tell us!
@THIEVES HAVE RE-GROUPED AT DPP OFFICE – why do you want me to be employed by the POST on part-time basis when you know clearly that I’m not PF. They would fire me BEFORE I even start! The POST hate RB with a passion, while at the sametime stealing from the public. I don’t even know why THE POST bother to write very ‘PREACHING’ editorials, as if they are the custodians of wisdom – when we all know now that they are the worst thieves and most corrupt numskulls on earth. Has someone read the Post editorial on the job-stampede tragedy in Mpulungu? THE POST was preaching to the Mpulungu victims to be patient and continue dying because the govt is still working to bring them jobs. If Fred Mmembe is human, one day his true God will visit him.
Bloggers, I’m always lost on this issue of corrupt judges. What corruption were they involved in? Please educate me!
I like Lupiya Banda as a person but I have great anger at the corruption he left behind in just three years he was President! I also hate his extra spending during his campaign for presidency which was the utter most way of wasting government resources. I hate the way he used the judiciary to shield thieves. I hate his disregard to the national tender procedures. I hate his short sightedness in dealing with national development. His previous record of his employment had always been a disaster when he left – NAMBOARD, Foreign Affairs, and even his Presidency! I stand to be corrected, but Banda has a dismal performance from time in memorial.
I agree with RB on this one. Our judiciary at the moment remains one of the most solid structures we have in terms of the competence of the officials. Both the executive and legislature are composed of people that do not have qualifications and experience. Many of our judicial officials have been in office for more than 20 years continuously! It is a shame that outsiders, many whom were on the streets a few moons ago are now causing chaos.
The PF govt do not have a political mandate to carry out comprehensive restructuring of this important organ because they did not campaign on that basis. They campaigned on ‘more money in your pockets’ of which we have seen none so far. It is greed for power and lack of appreciation of institutions that is driving them to undermine the judiciary.
You were making sense until your second last sentence. The PF campaigned on ‘more money in your pockets’ quite alright but only simplistic thinking such as yours would expect them to focus solely on that. What’s the point of a hard working John Zulu in Chunga Compound losing a court case against his employers because the judiciary is corrupt? Isn’t justice for all a human right, just as it is a right to food and water? Why should one be more important than the other?
Should the government focus on creating jobs while ignoring the corruption of the judiciary and any other sector of society that disdvantages the marjority? Off you go, make us a cup of tea while the men discuss important issues. Two sugars, no milk.
Immunity lifting proceedings can now start. It’s been a while RB is back now let us have him bring our national cake back with the frosting.
You dont have the numbers in parliament you f.ool! Carry on dreaming just like you have been about more money in your pockets and somebody being ‘allergic to corruption’.
#16 I like your analysis.
RB, while no longer MMD president, still has something to say regarding national issues. The man presided over the country and as such is entitled to his wrong opinion every once in a while. The only issue I have with this statement from the former head is that its based on ‘saying something’ on the judiciary as an ex president.
He’ll have to choose his battles cleverly as soon enough, he’ll be dragged into stupid, ignorant cadre territory of which President Michael Chilufya Sata is a life member.
@Katanga. The demonstration is against the executive which suspended the judges and the same executive you the orders not to issue a permit. So it will go ahead
I dont know where you people who think the Zambian judiciary is the most credible have been living or what your sources of information other than the Dailies and online media which mostly reports unbalanced and unverified information (Compare zambia watchdog and zedleaks, you ll see what I mean). Credible judiciaries do not allow even as much as a rumor on a judge let alone criminals dining with judges. its only the zambian judiciary which has had a CJ confessing to corruption (Mathew Ngulube) in case you were babies. Thinking independently means analysing information at hand and taking a position. I f you think RB is right that thats a credible judiciary, i would be very worried, its just an endorsement that, thats a corrupt judiciary. if a thief thinks the policeman is good, then there i
This I.D.I.O.T doesnt think
You are defending the judicially, because you have a relatives in that cycle, we know him, just bring yourself toanswer charges with your sons, you can run but you can not hide.
Mpundu Trust is awaiting you, and lifting of your munity is on the desk. Mambala\:d/
Ba alabee , keep quite or ka immunity twalaimya by air
Attacking the judiciary is okay as long as good and right procedures are followed
the arrest of my sun has prompted me to come
@No.15 lungowe
And what was your contribution to the subject? You just read through the comments too and forgot about the topic. So, who is the bigger fool here?
@No.16 Chitapi-meno-ngwe-mutu
I like your analysis
No one including all govt organs is above the law. If that statement in principle is true and practical why then demonstrate and complain about the suspension of the three judges!!!
RB has no moral right to comment about reforming the judiciary. He with his friend FTJ (MHSRIP), ganged up to rape the countries economy further through interference in government procurement, unnecessary presidential trips, removal of abuse clause from the constitution, using william Banda to harrass innocent people, crooked acquittals and his children getting cuts from any contract they could lay their filthy hands on! Today this same RB can come and tell us that our judiciary is solid & incorruptible and his sycophants get on this blog to insult all those who differ with him? All embecile nincompoops supporting this corrupt RB are blind as this man is counting on this same corrupt judiciary to get him off the hook if ‘chickens come home to roost!’ RB just wait for your reckoning!
THIS IDI.OT AGAIN! PUT THIS URGLY PIG IN PRISON. THIS PIG BELONGS TO PRISON. I WONDER WHY THE GOVT IS LETTING THIS PIG LOOSE.
Its just laughable that BUFFO0N RB is coming to the defence of the Judiciary BUT it is strategic, tactical and not ill timed as his son Andrew will soon be brought against the selfsame Judges. Yes Sata brought cases to courts but what choice did he have apart from civil disobedience and how many cases went in his favour.
Let’s take what all these politicians say with a pinch of salt as they only care about their hides NOT the man on the street, my advice to you bloggers is to sit down and think about the issue from all angles before you comment.
i hate rupiah for giving power to kaponyas……the country is in a state of consufsion..the kaponyas have disjointed speeches from the head kaponya the presido..he says what he does not mean……..contracting statements…….now he says a bit of corruption is ok then late he says he is allegic to corruption…..
@Peter, also posting as Jay Jay, I know your father, he is a pig that has just had a good wallow! Now how does that feel? Oh, I forgot your mother, she is a loose bitch. And that? Learn to respect other people’s parents imbwa iwe
Do people still have to get a police permit to conduct a peaceful demonstration? What age is this, stone age? I thought informing the police of their intention and asking that the police be there to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order, or hijacking of a peaceful demonstration by disgruntled elements was sufficient.
My fellow sinner Koli Koli # 45, hatred for someone who has never known you personally is not normal and is negative energy onto yourself. By the way what does ‘contracting statement’ mean? You are the KAPONYA! Najudah # 46, read the draft constitution and make contributions so that archaic laws like this one can be removed from the constitution to be enacted. On this matter, nobody is allowed to demonstrate over a matter in court. Police should arrest all who will demonstrate and charge them with comtempt. AG Malila, give instruction accordingly, so that lunatics from certain political cycles can know that the current constitution though falls short is still the supreme law of the land. # 46 Peter watchout if you intend to demonstrate!
Politics in Zambia are no any different from politics else where. The choice is between a she-goat and a he-goat. Both of them are goats and you are made to choose. How can you expect good things from such Presidents. The difference between Obama and Bush is that the latter used war as the first option while the former says that it should be the last option. Both of them still believe in war as a way of solving problems. Thats the case in Zambian politics. Same tactics but used at different times.
although RB was not the best president but he is on his way to becoming Zambia’s best former President
Anybody calling for the immunity of rb is a f.ool. The numbers in parliament would not allow it. Yu think UPND will support pf in lifting RB’s immunity? If RB’s immunity is lifted, pf will be digging their own grave as it will be irrefutable evidence of their selective and vindictive tendencies given the fact that Nchito and Membe dont want to pay back their nkongole. If RB is hounded as some pf hoodlums are suggesting just watch the money he left in the country’s coffers dry up faster than it has already been doing since the ‘allergic to corruption’ but cured Sata took over.
#13 you have the brain and I agree with you. The Police should allow the Tonga political party to go a head with their demonstration so that the whole world should see how small a number they are. It will be a shameful thing to demonstrate about when everyone is calling for change in judicial department of the country. This is how you can see how shortsighted this UPND is. Honestly speaking, can anyone in his right sense support those corrupt judges? What the whole world should know is this is a tribal demonstration because the Tongas are the only people demonstrating even over something that is so clear like the suspension of the Judges. One wonders where the UPND stands on this issue. Let them go a head so that we see how few they are.
