Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) president, Hakainde Hichilema has said he would scrap off the proposed new salaries for the ministers and senior government officials.
“I will allocate the money meant for new salaries of ministers and others to civil servants, water improvement and other services,” he said.
Mr. Hichilema also said that he will not use his salary for himself if elected president of Zambia this month end.
Mr. Hichilema said the presidency was not there to make one rich but to provide service to the people of Zambia.
He said he already has a lot of money and therefore, there would be no need for him to draw a salary during the whole period he would serve as president of Zambia.
Mr. Hichilema said he would donate his salary to women and youth program for them to venture into various business activities.
Mr. Hichilema said to be a president was a serious business which required a strong and alert person, who would ensure there were better roads, clinics, schools and other necessities.
He has since urged Serenje residents to choose him as president in the October 30th, 2008 presidential election.
He said people should not elect people who have grown over retirement age.
Mr. Hichilema reiterated that his government will pay K3.5 million as a minimum salary for government workers.
He said starting from next school term, education will be free from grade one up to university level.
Mr. Hichilema alleged that the MMD did not have its own policy on agriculture and that what it was using now was a UPND policy.
He added that the ruling party had failed to achieve desired results in the agriculture sector because it was using a “borrowed” policy.
He said currently, there was widespread hunger in the country because people were failing to produce sufficient food due to alleged poor implementation of the “borrowed” agriculture policy.
The UPND leader said his first problem to tackle will be agriculture, adding that his government would for three years, provide free fertilizers to farmers so that they could produce more food.
Earlier, UPND provincial chairperson, Ferdinand Chipindi said time had come for the people of Zambia to change government.
Mr. Chipindi said the only person who could deliver goods and services to Zambians was Mr. Hichilema.
And provincial chairlady, Christine Lemba, urged women to rise and vote for Mr. Hichilema on October 30th this year.
Mrs. Lemba said women were the most vulnerable people in Zambia and hence the need for them to vote for Mr. Hichilema because he had their interest at heart.

Magande has indicated that the GRZ is subsidising the fertiliser prices which RBB reduced from K200000 to K50000 using the 1.3 Billion Kwacha GRZ has as reserves. So if this K1.3 Bil is doing things Magande and the MMD are doing now, then ecHi-ecHi knows what he is talking about. ecHi-ecHi has K39 Bil of his personal family money which is approx. 35 times larger than the Governments reserves in 44 years. I agree that Zambia (and Africa, and the world) need new ideas to replace the neoliberalism’s disastrous PDF (‘privatisation’, deregulation, ‘free’ markets).
On corruption, it is really what the politician does in office that I am interested in. If someone takes 1% of GDP in graft, but lifts up all the people from $285 per year on average, to $6000 per year, then he can take whatever he or she wants. 🙂 But if they do not, then they’re just thieves.
What we have seen too much of, is politicians who do not know what to do with power. Getting into office and staying there has become the objective. Let’s look at their professional careers.

So here is my first impressive proof that the POSTNEWSPAPER, current mouthpiece for Sata, does report news truthfully but without making mention of the exact factors on the ground. In one of their actilces on Rupiah Banda and Tribal voting, the POST indicated that the Bemba population in Zambia is at 43% while the Tonga one is at 17%. Quite rightly the POST gave us a correct number for the Tonga group but deliberately gave us an unfinished representation of the Bemba one (43% = 32.6% Bemba + 9.78% Mambwe) figures. Take note that all the smaller tribes and languages like Namwanga and Bisa have all been included in the Bemba language calculation.
I have full confidence in this presentation.
Looking at how GRZ monies is spent recklessly e.g use of three aeroplanes by RB etc etc, I concur with HH’s calculations that there is enough money to provide free education up to University level improve agriculture. Like it or not HH has more vision than his counter parts and his calculations are 99.999% correct. The same resentment happened to Mazoka on free eductaion until facts were laid bare of Chiluba and Chungu’s plundering machine, the money of which social services, education and agriculture could have benefitted. We will regret if Sata or RB take over. Watch the space.

The Asian tigers (South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, etc) invested heavily in education and they experienced more growth in a period of 30 years what took the industrial powers over 50 years to achieve.
