Pay statutory fees, Sakeni urges MMD

GOVERNMENT says the MMD must settle the K390 million statutory fees it owes the Registrar of Societies. Minister of Home Affairs Kennedy Sakeni said the fact that the court dismissed the de-registration of the MMD does not entail the former ruling party should not settle the debt.

He said the party has an obligation to clear all outstanding statutory fees with the Registrar of Societies. Mr Sakeni said this in an interview in Lusaka yesterday following the statement by MMD president Nevers Mumba that the party will only settle the K390 million when it establishes that the debt is genuine.

Dr Mumba said this is so because some of its branches are non-existent. Last week, Dr Mumba said the MMD will only settle the amount if it is established beyond doubt that it owes the Registrar of Societies.

But chief registrar of societies Clement Andeleki has insisted the MMD still owes.

And Mr Sakeni said the MMD should honour its statutory obligations and stop insisting that the K390 million debt is not genuine. “Let them own up and make the payment because the judgement in court did not say they should not pay the debt. Let them pay so that we can put this matter to rest,” Mr Sakeni said.

Mr Sakeni also urged all registered organisations that owe the Registrar of Societies to ensure that they settle outstanding statutory fees. “If they don’t know, this is the money Government uses for infrastructure development. We plough back to the community by offering various services using these monies,” Mr Sakeni said.

Last week, the High Court overturned the decision by Mr Andeleki to de-register the MMD. In March this year, Mr Andeleki de-registered the MMD on grounds of failing to pay K390 million statutory fees which date as far back as 1991.

  1. MMD slept on the job…the past has come to torment them…there has to be some truth in this story and the party should be big enough to put this to bed…if they are not broke by now lol!

  2. I still can’t understand why MMD has not paid up registration fees! Why should MMD surely even delay? They have even put this case aside and started venting anger on Andeleki. What type of thinking goes on? This is a simple straight forward issue which must quickly resolved and maintain your worthness in the eyes of the country. Resorting to mere finger pointing in all direction will not help you. Just pay up. This is how you have taught citizens wrongly that go borrow money and then don’t pay back but keep giving protracted reasons until the case is forgotten about. This is wrong. This culture must change. When you borrow you must pay back. When you accrue arrears you must pay. That how credibilty is maintained and promoted. Otherwise MMD has shown the nation bad example.

  3. Tell your Membe to pay the 14 billion, not following a petty cash of 390 million. MMD will never die, will never be broke. Fi myefu obubi kumenso; Chisatakeni.

  4. Can all these politician stop talking about this matter since its in court. If there are outstanding fees to be paid MMD should pay full stop.

  5. So now the K390 million statutory fee credit is not genuine?? On what grounds did the court dismiss the case was it due to insufficient evidence that they owe the Registrar of Societies that amount since 1991 or the PF fabricated this

  6. This man looks dirty, how can the whole minister of home affairs don such an unkempt beard? And wait, by the way, he is clean shaven on pa kalukobo, does this mean he is bewidowed or he has just come out of prison? This is how his boss CNP understand things. The beard though looks nasty, with the grey and dark patches it really does look like the colours of Chimbwii. Any way, bonse ni ba CNP.

  7. Sata’s nepotism is the worst.
Alexander Chikwanda the minister of finance is his uncle. His nephew, Miles Sampa, is the deputy finance minister. Nkandu Luo the local government minister is his niece while his first cousin Justice Lombe Chibesakunda is the Chief Justice. He has further on gone to appoint a cousin ambassador to Japan. This is worse than Levy Mwanawasa, when the new guy takes over this family tree must be chopped down, to pieces.

    • Fred Yamba the secretary to the treasury is a brother in marriage,Bob Sichinga is a sebele can someone add on lets see how this Govt is rotten with nepotism.

  8. Iwe ka Sakeni, did you pay damage for kalya aka mukashana akaku Misisi compound wa damagile! You pay that one forst before Sekwila pays his dies to Andeleki. But those mandevu of yours sure, they have a cunning similarity to the feminine genetalia, complete with a bucket “crack”. Awe sure Sakeni, shave it off!

  9. The former SG of MMD and his executive who are now in the ruling party went to sleep. PF is just MMD, all traits of the former ruling party are in PF.

  10. Can someone lecture these ministers on how to kemp their jungles. They must be from the George Mpombo School of ifiko.

  11. He looks like those so called old apostles we have in Zimbabwe and Zambia. This is Shamenda’s brother and Mpombo’s cousin. Find out why the MMD are refusing to pay.

  12. please bane spare the honourable minister. he is from jerusalem church where keeping long beards is symbol of purity. this man is very humble. he cant even kill an insect and yet insults are flying from all angles.

  13. Is this a Minister or a Man looking after a head of cattle in the Village??? What is this?? We need a dress code for these leaders? Can’t he shave or trim his brownish beard? It is really a shame. In society people will judge you by your looks.

  14. Nevers Mumba is spot on.Remember that MMD is upto date with remittances for its Head Office. The Branches Andeleki is claiming have to be verified on the ground.Already, there is a FAKE Branch which has been listed that it exists in Mumbwa while Hon.Chituwo who is the MP for the area says such a Branch does not exist. So, how many such FAKE Branches are on Andeleki’s claim?

  15. 390 million againest 14 billioni yakwa membe.ifimyefu, ububi, that’s why members neel down b4 the pipo why?you to neel down to God and ask 4 givenes,go and neel down b4 the lozi pipo abo mwabepa, ifimyefu weshilu mubweshe 14 billion.

  16. Nindevu or ni chikolopo. Awe baMinister mwachilamo. This is not healthy for the nation. Ask Mumembe for a 5 pin for a ndevu cut. Maybe a 10 pin so that you share with Shamenda. He needs a ndevu cut as of yesterday! I end here!

  17. The MMD should settle this debt obligation and move on.It is sad to observe that the Movement cannot financially run their political party and yet want to run the affairs of the country. Please put your house in order….

  18. In a democracy like Zambia rule of law plays a very important part in running an organization like MMD. MMD while in power forgot to pay registration fees for their party. That is what happens when you are in power for 20 years, you simply take things for granted. I am somewhat dissapointed by Dr Nevers Mumba, MMD President who have not yet know that his party owes 390million Kwacha. Come on MMD pay up or I will also support your deregistration.
