UPND women in Eastern Province endorse the candidature of President Hakainde Hichilema in the 2026 general elections

The United Party for National Development (UPND) Women in Eastern Province have endorsed the candidature of President Hakainde Hichilema in the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during the meeting held in Chipata today, Provincial Women’s Chairperson, Hellen Phiri, said the party was delighted with the numerous developmental projects that were initiated under the leadership of President Hichilema.

Ms Phiri said the UPND women in the province commend President Hichilema for the recent increment of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K 36.1 million to K 40 million.

” We are delighted with the numerous developmental projects that have been initiated under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema. The recent increment of CDF from K 36.1 million to K 49 million is just one of the many areas of development under UPND,” she said.

The UPND Provincial Chairlady also said the government improved the living standards of people through various social programmes such as Cash for Work, Enhanced Social Cash Transfer, Sustainable Agriculture Financing Facility (SAFF), amongst many more initiatives aimed at empowering communities.

Ms Phiri noted that the ruling party for the first time in a single term, managed to employ a lot of people in various government sectors, adding that the UPND women were further encouraged by ongoing infrastructure development such as the construction of the Chipata/Chadiza road.

” It is for this reason that we, the UPND women of Eastern Province, pledge our continued support and commitment to rally behind President Hakainde Hichilema and further pledge to endorse his candidature for the 2026 general elections,” she said.

And UPND Special Assistant for Politics and Mobilisation in the office of the Secretary General, Michael Chuzu, said members of the UPND should not talk about intra party election now but concentrate on building the party as they set their eyes on the 2026 elections.

Mr Chuzu challenged party members to get united and stop complaining of resources, saying before the party formed government in 2021, members used to walk during campaigns and they should do the same this time around.
