Nalolo District Voter Education Committee (DVEC) has commenced monitoring voter education activities in preparation for the August 13, General Election.
The team, which was led by District Electoral Officer Falantino Mweemba, visited Voter Education Facilitators deployed on the East Bank of the district.
Mr Mweemba commended the facilitators for their dedication and urged them to continue educating voters in an objective and non‑partisan manner.
“So far so good, the numbers are showing that our facilitators are reaching out to many people and this is encouraging,”he added.
Mr Mweemba further appealed to the community to cooperate with the Voter Education Facilitator to ensure effective implementation of the programme.
Residents of Nalolo have also commended the Electoral Commission of Zambia for conducting voter education.
Njekwa Limweta said the programme is very beneficial to first time voters as they are educated on how to cast their vote.
“For us first time voters, this is very educational, because we are able to learn how people vote,” Mr Limweta said.
Mando Kalimukwa also pointed out that despite having many candidates contesting, the campaigns are going on well without any record of violence.
“The atmosphere is so peaceful such that we are able to socialise with all the candidates without engaging in any violent activities,” Mr Kalimukwa stated.
Meanwhile, the District Electoral Officer described the campaign period as peaceful.
Mr Mweemba said the district has not recorded any form of violence from the time campaigns commenced.
He has since called on political parties and aspiring candidates to maintain the peace that is being experienced at the end of the elections, so that voters feel safe and confident to cast their votes.
