Government Says Lubinda Rescued by Police, Calls for Calm

Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu has announced that PF Acting President Given Lubinda is safe and was rescued by Zambia Police following the confrontation in Kabwe. Addressing the nation, Mwiimbu confirmed that police officers intervened at the scene and secured Lubinda before the situation escalated.

Mwiimbu said the incident in Kabwe must be viewed within a recent pattern of criminal behaviour that began after the attack on President Hakainde Hichilema in Chingola. He said videos and statements celebrating violence against the President created an environment that encouraged further unlawful conduct. He added that incidents had since been recorded at the PF Secretariat in Lusaka and again in Kabwe.

The minister said the government would not tolerate acts linked to cadre conduct, attacks, intimidation or any form of hooliganism. He said there would be no exemptions, whether offenders belonged to the ruling party or the opposition. He stated that President Hichilema had directed all law-enforcement bodies to clamp down on lawlessness and ensure order across the country.

Mwiimbu urged citizens, including clergy and community figures, to refrain from making statements that could incite confrontational behaviour. He said Zambia’s long record of peace must be protected, and all leaders should help prevent conditions that undermine national stability. He called on police in Kabwe to arrest everyone involved in the confrontation and reinforce order.

Mwiimbu also confirmed that 41 suspects connected to the stoning of the President in Chingola were in custody and would appear in court. He said investigations into the attack on the PF Secretariat were ongoing and updates would be given once reports were finalised. He added that the police had a responsibility to protect all citizens regardless of their political affiliation.

From there they have been closing district commissioners offices and council offices. In Mpika they even attacked a church radio station where Kalaba waa supposed to feature, have you heard of any one arrested. None has been really on their own as they claim
