Share

Mambwe district will soon embark on drilling of 150 boreholes in all parts of the district to ease water problems that are being experienced.

Mambwe District Commissioner Janet Palukani disclosed this to ZANIS in Mambwe yesterday.

Ms Palukani stated that the drilling of boreholes will be done with the assistance of the German government through the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

She said currently the situation was bad because most people in villages were drawing water from wells.
She said that government was doing everything possible to ensure people in the area accessed safe clean drinking water.

The District Commissioner further stated that the programme was supposed to start in October 2013 but deferred because the two governments were still negotiating.
She stated that initially the district applied for 200 boreholes but only 150 were approved and the drilling will commence in 2014 once the negotiations are concluded.

And the District Commissioner stated that some test will be done especially in Chief Mnkhanya and Msoro chiefdoms where water is considered to have high calcium levels which makes some peoples teeth turn yellow.

Ms Palukani stated that the district requested for some testing kits to ensure that boreholes in the two areas are drilled where water was free from the calcium.

Meanwhile, Ms Palukani stated that works on Chipata /Mfuwe road which is being constructed by SABLE Construction Company will be concluded by December 2013.
Ms Palukani said that SABLE will work on a stretch of 15 km township roads which is also part of the contract under Chipata/Mfuwe road.

She further stated that works on Katemo/ Kalindawalo road is being worked on by SIMSUM contractors at a cost of K4.2 million and that bush clearing has already started.
She said that Masumba/Msoro raod rehabilitation works has also started under JONDA Construction company at a cost of K13 million.

  1. voters in that constituency don’t read this trash you have published here. it will not save your PF( Panga Family) or your cycle mata. VIVA opposition be it MMD or UPND

  2. 150 German funded boreholes to be drilled by Chinese companies? Why not give the money to Dept of Water Affairs or empower Zambian owned companies?

  3. Mambwe District Commissioner Janet Palukani must stop playing political games with the lives of the people of Malambo. Where was this DC when the people needed their precious water at the most critical dry season (June-November)?

Has Ms. Palukani ever reached out to Chief Malama’s area, to the people of Katemo and some remote areas of Chiefs Munkhanya, Kakumbi and Nsefu. Malambo District cannot be defined by the main road from Mphomwa to Masumba? Has this DC cared to advise Govt on the need to construct all-weather roads to crtical areas of Malambo. The bridges linking the road between Mfuwe Airport and Kakumbi are so bad that they yearn for urgent repairs.

It seems Janet Palukani is only interested to capture votes for PF with no regard for their real needs.
