The Zambia National Farmers, ZNFU, in Mazabuka has welcomed the arrest of a transporter suspected of involvement in a scandal in which over 200 bags of fertiliser and Maize went missing.
ZNFU Mazabuka District Agri-Business Manager, Clement Phiri, told ZANIS in Mazabuka today, that the swift action by Police to arrest the suspect deserves commendation.
Mr Phiri said the arrest of the named transporter, who allegedly has strong political backing, would serve as a warning to individuals that no person is above the law.
He said ZNFU is particularly cheered with the arrest because the suspect was boasting of immunity against prosecution despite having committed the offense.
Mr Phiri has, however, appealed to the affected farming community to exercise patience as Police intensify the investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, Police in Mazabuka have released a suspect, who is alleged to have received the fertiliser consignment from the transporter on behalf of farmers.
Police sources told ZANIS that the suspect, who was picked after Police traced the National Registration Card number was released after the transporter cleared him of the allegations.
Police said the transporter will appear in court soon because it has now become apparent that he actually committed the offense alone.

well this story is really hard to comment on,its like names are being hiden..bt the only thing i can say is who ever is involved in this scandal shld face the law,because if someone is even bragging of having immunity,en this is wats making them commit crimes,them someone who gave them this same immunity shld lfit it jst like they lifted chilubas immunity,allaa ukutumpa iwe ka transporter.

Guys we need to understand that LT only reproduce what ZANIS and other news agencies put out. They have no reporters of their own. So it might be showing ingratitude to demonise LT when the news agency, in this case ZANIS, is the one that has been somewhat remiss.

The people of Mazabuka be alert,follow this issue. time and again we the citizens of Zambia forget about such cases & they end up dying a natural death. An exaple is a case that came on this site one Major Chirwa embazzled refund fuel money from the Ministry of Health after workshop.This case even came out on this site but the guy is scot free,working for Albidon Zambia Mine & boasting. Shame on ACC.

I find it hard to commend the swift action by our Cops partly because of LT.The way LT has reported this case leaves much to be desired.They havent mentioned the name of the suspect, let alone the transporter,to which political party he has connections etc.If by any chance its MMD,LT are you afraid of saying it? You chose the profession and i chsllenge you to stand up to your profession instead of teasing us with half-baked stories.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. Stealing of farming inputs has been countrywide. I wonder if ba bagwila just because this might be an opposition policitian involved! LT shd give us a list of all places the scandal of farming inputs has been reported. I’m sure, where MMD politicians are involved, nothing will happen.
