Zambia boxers arrive in Glasgow for Commonwealth games

The Kennedy Kanyanta coached Zambia boxing team has arrived in Scotland to prepare for this month’s Commonwealth Games.

The Glasgow Games will take place from July 23-August 3

Coach Kanyanta confirmed the team’s arrival in Scotland on Friday morning.

The team that landed in the United Kingdom has five boxers namely Mbachi Kaonga, Ben Muziyo, Christopher Katanga, Charles Lumbwe and Bwalya Lumbwe.

Kanyanta said he is hopeful his boxers will be ready for the games.

“We are in competition period so our training programme here will involve a lot of sparrings and gym work,” he said.

“Today (Friday) we had a feel of spar and another is coming on Tuesday with Scotish boxers,” Kanyanta said.

And the coach revealed that boxer Lawrence Mukuta was dropped from the squad before departure for Europe.

“We dropped Lawrence and reserved him for future assignments,” Kanyanta said.

Kanyanta himself won Zambia’s last Commonwealth Games gold medal in boxing at the 2002 edition.

  1. Apart from Samuel Matete and Boxing there is nothing to show…too many self serving greedy officals and lack of clear policy and roadmap from Ministry of Sport.

  2. NO IMAGES OF THE ZAMBIAN BOXERS. SIMPLE THINGS ARE VERY HARD FOR ZAMBIA’S JOURNALISM. ANYWAY WE GONNA SEE THEIR FACES IN BRITISH PAPERS.
