Hero Mother-in-law fights off hippo

Share

A teacher in Kasempa district yesterday escaped death after being attacked by a hippo at his house in Kivuku area about 15 kilometers from the boma.

The Mother in law of the teacher Rejoice Mushala who saved the victim by hitting the animal with the pounding stick on the mouth confirmed the development to ZANIS staff at Mukinge Mission Hospital yesterday.

Mrs Mushala said the teacher, Mr Leon Chizeji was attacked by the hippo around 07:00 hours just a few meters outside his house.

Mrs Mushala disclosed that the victim was only saved from the grip of the animal after it was hit on its head.

She said the teacher sustained deep cuts on the buttock and the right hand.

Mr. Chizeji was rushed to the mission hospital by his wife and with the help of his neighbours.

ZANIS staff who rushed to the hospital found the teacher had just come out from the theatre and had not yet regained consciousness..

Mrs Mushala has complained about lack of action by Zambia Wildlife Authority(ZAWA) on the animals in the area.

She said she had reported to the authority about the presence of the animals and the damage caused to crops on several occasions but no action has been taken.

Meanwhile reliable sources have disclosed to ZANIS staff this morning that the hippopotamus was shot dead by the angry villagers.

Obtaining comments from ZAWA proved futile.

You guys in Kasempa, just kill those animals and eat them if ZAWA doest want to do anything about the situation.

We can just keep quiet but in the meantime killing those animals and enjoying.

    PLEASE KILL AND EAT.
    Amen.

  2. FAZ not involved in Mayuka saga
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says Kabwe warriors striker Emmanuel Mayuka’s transfer saga has been blown out of proportion.

FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya said at a news briefing that the Association is not involved in the transfer negotiations of players.

Meanwhile, Bwalya said the association will soon engage a technical director who will be responsible for recruiting players from the grassroot level.

Bwalya said the move is aimed at creating a pool of players who will be the future players of the National team

  3. He is the one that deserves to be evacuated to Morning Side, not some chaps that we hear have gone. They have too much money to pay themselves. The lady must be honoured for her courage. But this being Zed, no medal at State House ceremony

  7. Sad indeed for the man and bug up to the mother in law.I agree,a hippo is not a reptile but a mammal,am getting used to such ridiculous mistakes by Zambian websites,it’s like no proof reading to minimise errors even silly ones.

  8. Imwe ba LT a hippo is not reptile. It is plant eating (herbivore) mammal. It is warm blooded and its skin is covered with hair. Reptiles are cold-blooded and have skin covered in scales as opposed to hair or feathers. In your quest to educate us and inform we expect you to edit your stories other wise my Child will challenge me that a hippo is a reptile and produce your article as evidence.:oHats off to the courageous mother-in law!:d/

  9. kumushi mooye # 37 anebo ndakuyeye kapati. Waka sola kubika tu garlic mu iippo webo? Wato bikamo tu Bisto atwalo so aaaah =d> itoba sandauni

These are some of the issues RB should be addressing instead of visiting “sick patients- :d” . I know right? sick and patients in the same sentence. Anyways, RB put ZAWA to task.

  10. Have you seen how uneducated Zambia journalists have become? It is all Chiluba;s fault. How can a Hippo be a reptile? Sure, sure, even my 5 year old knows what a reprile is and what a mammal is and the difference between them. Chiluba, surely aren’t you ashamed of what you did to zambia Children? Destroying the education system which was perfectly fine under super Ken.

  11. i hope AMCOR management have got hint about this woman,if she can comfront a hippo what of those tuma bandits prawling lusaka at night who run even when they see their own shadows,ni biscuit.

  12. Why are people making an issue of this reptile stuff?

This article was cut and paste from ZANIS people please see the bottom left corner.

    😮

  13. Sony Ericsson Phiri

I know I am not an angel when it comes to contributing r u b b i s h but really this is just ludicrous now.

Guys lets move on. People have even gone out of their way saying it`s Chiluba`s fault that journalists are writing this. For God`s sake Chiluba became president in 1991. I do not think people born in 1991 have been to Uni and Hone and done their journalism already. I may be wrong but please!

As much as I hate Chiluba, writing on LT has nothing to do with him

  14. 3RqU don’t listen to that one… I agree LT should edit, but maybe that’s breach of copyright since it’s a ZANIS story 😕

  15. Sony Ericsson Phiri LT can not change anything they cut and paste.

When Banfuchile died (MHSRIP), Zamnet cut and paste a stroy which was all wrong from the beeb.

  16. #55, No, its people who started School around 1991/92 who were affected by Chiluba’s warped political engineering. Chiluba described us educated people as useless and fired most teachers, doctors and nurses. What message do you think he was sending to the School going Children. Leadership is a responsility that affects mant facets of lives either indirectly or directly. So, yes to have reported who does not even know the difference between a mammal and reptile is a very shameful thing to the nation. All Chiluba’s fault, i am sorry.

  17. I thought so… Anyway these ZANIS journalists should have some lessons not so?

We need more women like Mrs Mushala, they act decisively not just talking

  18. Bloggers believe it or not Sony Ericsson Phiri’s Mother-in-law would have joined the hippo biting off the other b.u.t.t.o.c.k ! Kaili agoneka mwana wao njala, spend all his salary blogging! :d

  19. Hippo lost out, so that lady is powerful eeh? Read between lines and recall what happened in that part of the country in days of Mushala, so what are you saying now????? Bena mushala they are known for juju and nothing else. Takwabapofye,, elyo lady, awe science yatalikako mbichana.

  20. Intelligentia #55

Its alright trying to justify a point, its another being realistic and fair. When Chiluba took over, he actually improved things. We saw primay schools building wall fences and all that. Things just didn`t go hay-wire from there. It took a while for the short man to realise he actually needed to be stocking up for winter which is never there in Zambia;).

Sony Ericsson Phiri I have spotted a mistake made by the beeb on 606 and evrybody jumped in and we saw the beeb change it. Its one of those things I am afraid.

    :d

  21. Of course 3RqU, people make mistakes even journalists I even corrected them once. Anyway my beer is waiting, tomolo… :-h

  22. #63, good sense of humour. It took a while for the short man to realise he actually needed to be stocking up for winter which is never there in Zambia.

Yes, but even then he did not even stock up for his children as well. Too bad.

  23. correction:

so if the hippo swallowed Buya’s butt nishi if after the locals eat its meat nishi ni ma cannibals?

  24. Too bad umugaizi balimusuma pamatako, but mayo ena enshimbi ala amalumbu kuli nakulu bantu and a quick recovery kuwetako :d

  26. Mr. Chizeji please appreciate your mother in law. Velepi Mtonga new PS ministry of health please send this patient to South Africa. Hippo bite in the buttocks can be very toxic

  29. If the meat is missing or part of the backside how ill he get that part back, I feel for him as for the Morthe-inlaw …mwabombeni

  30. Its quiet amazing that a hippo attacks a human being outside the rivers/waters. This is strange.Outside water a hippo flees upon seeing man. Too bad for Chizeji, so his ba pongoshi saw his buttock.Quick recovery bro.

  31. LT kindly note that there is no Kaonde man which starts with ‘CHI’all our Kaonde names start with ‘KI’ .Just for your information we are Kaondes and not Bembas .Thank you. [-(

  32. excuse my poor eyesight bane but where in the article does it say hippos are reptiles? i just dont believe such a gross error can get past the editing room../:)

  33. imwe hippo was upset that he was growing old and they were no pochas to hunt it and the pipo didnt want to eat it.so it went closer for them to take action.Munani

  34. Its shocking that the government is spending collosal amounts of money taking VJ to South Africa when we all know his sickness is incurable and self inflicted.

  35. Point of correction to all those saying that a hippo is a mammal. You are all wrong. Its neither a reptile nor a mammal but an amphibian. I guess you are all not smarter than a 5th grader

  36. Mwayandayi mwane. i once stayed in Kasempa some year back and we used to kill the animals when they enter our premises. after all they are transpassing in our gardens

  37. Ba Lukatazyo! twasanta mwane nkambo emupeshe. Kasempa is a rich place those are the signs our place animals come even in the village we dont need a gun to kill one for relish all we need is a knife and a pounding stick. i think i will just go and stay in kasempa were we a impala per person

  38. In kasempa there are more animals that are not talked about than hippo just because it has performed there are Elephants too wildlife should take an action

  39. Akazi lipila nkongole mudala paka pa last wamukonka, he is a lucky man. maybe he could post a link on where to get superhero mother in-laws from…..lol. I wish him quick recovery

  40. #90 no apology to make. There is no mention of a hippo being a reptile in the article. Spring Chicken where did u get that? this is how people are mislead. Tizi belenga english bwino

  41. # 15 So you should go back to school. This is what my son is learning in grade 5 and last week when he was given home work to describe what a mammal is, he put it as an animal that lives both in water and outside water. So a hippo is a mammal and not a reptile.

  42. :)):)):)):)):)):)):)):)):)):)):)):)):)):)) awe kwena!!! this is jst too fantastic…bt anyway quick recovery ku mulwele wetako……

  43. but guys kwena dis is being so mean…sure umunenu balya iteko there u go laughing to de lungs out..awe…sure…quick recovery boi 😕
