PRESIDENT Lungu has sent messages of condolences to the families of two former deputy ministers, Celestino Chibamba and Enock Chikamba who died in Lusaka last week.

Special assistant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda said in a statement yesterday that President Lungu regrets the passing away of Major Chibamba who died on Friday at Lusaka’s Fairview Hospital after a heart attack.

Mr Chanda said Maj Chibamba’s death robs the country of one of the country’s pioneers of multiparty democracy.

The late former minister served as MMD Shiwang’andu member of Parliament from 1991 to 2001 and later under PF from 2006 to 2011.

Maj Chibamba also served as deputy minister in the ministries of Defence, Works and Supply, and Energy and Water Development.

He also said that the late Mr Chikamba served in the MMD administration as minister and diplomat.

“The President said the nation will greatly miss the two leaders for their invaluable contributions they made to the development of the country,” he said.

And President Lungu has mourned the death of Alice Njovu, wife of UPND vice-president political affairs Canisius Banda.

Mrs Banda died of heart attack at the University Teaching Hospital on Saturday.

President Lungu has since encouraged the bereaved families to put their faith in God because only His will is certain and not people’s plans.

“We are all on this earth as passengers towards this destination of death. When and how it comes is matter of God’s timing and only he holds our fate. We must, therefore, take comfort that he alone is the ultimate comforter,” President Lungu said.

    • Death is sad and sudden, may their souls rest in peace. Take heart ba Banda, it’s a tough time! But moving forward remember you can never know who’s time has arrived, whether the president or your wife, we can only wish each other good health and long life.

      Be strong

  1. This is as reasonable as one can be. Anything above this then one is trying to subotange someone. What we need now is clean leadership. As a human being, the longest one can live with very few haddles is around 50 years, after which handles and complications start setting in. If we can all accept that we are just mortal, then the better and the more we shall appreciate someone’s suffering and the less we shall stick to power like a tick on a dead cow’s body.

    • The ‘k’ button is far away from the ‘b’ one. How do you come up with Chikamba? To many of misspelt words ba LT. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.

    • @REAL, PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE TWO PEOPLE INVOLVED, ONE IS MAJOR CELESTINO CHIBAMBA AND THE OTHER IS ENOCK CHIKAMBA. MAY THEIR SOULS REST IN PEACE. I KNEW BOTH OF THEM. WE SERVED TOGETHER IN THE CHILUBA GOVERNMENT.

  2. We mourn with all affected families. We are all sentenced to death at one point. whether you like it or not one day you pass over to the other side. So what is be your legacy? What will be your harvest? What will be works that will follow you? Do good now to finish well. Don´t be a poor like many before us. God will only reward good finishers. Salvation is waiting for you but it is not earned but it takes the grace of God the gift he has reserved for us. Repent and sin no more! Just already saved you from the second death for the first one is invertible. You cannot escape it when the time has come. Do good so when your time come you go to sleep but dying like the rich man. Lazarus was taken to sleep and the rich man die and was buried.

  3. Very uplifting message by the president indeed. Sorry for the bereived families.
Unfortunately for the death wisher Banda time To move away from the satanic party is now. That’s what you get when you wrestle with the Lord almighty.

  4. KEEPING HH AS 2016 CANDIDATE AT OUR OWN PERIL

    Masimpe!

Everybody can now see that Hakainde is not our preferred candidate for 2016.

I will REPEAT what I said before 20 January presidential by-election. Let us find a replacement because if we go on pretending we may be heading for extinction. Mazoka UPND did not leave the party to one individual.

Let us rescue our party from death. All the strangers HH brought have just taken our positions and made us weaker. I tried to advise in the last election and was called all sorts of names (PF, Sellout, whatever). We have strong candidates in the Party, everybody knows it, BUT THEY WOULD RATHER HH LOSES THE 6TH TIME! SHAME!

    Uchiyanda achileke!

Brian in Kalomo. Die-hard UPND for Life.
