President Lungu praised for denouncing deferring of 2016 polls maneuvers President Edgar Lungu has been praised for distancing himself from the maneuvers to defer the 2016 general elections to 2022.

The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) by allowing the courts to make ruling on the matter, President has shown to the nation that there was no involvement of the high authorities in the maneuvers to have the general elections deferred.

Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says his organization does trust that the Courts will in the same vein do what is right thing in terms of presiding over the matter.

Mr. Cheembe has told Qfm News in an interview that what SACCORD however believes is that Zambia has more important issues that need to be addressed and therefore need not be distracted.

He says his organization thinks that the country needs to make progress in the many issues that have been of public debate such as the Public Order Act and the constitution making process.

Mr. Cheembe has advised that the country needs to start planning for the long run as opposed to being stack with the same issues.

He explains that this means that the Zambia should now start making strides in reducing high poverty levels and unemployment among other issues affecting the people of Zambia.

Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu has arrived in Livingstone for a night stop after campaigning for the Patriotic Front candidates in Eastern Province.

The Presidential challenger carrying the President touched down at Harry Mwaanga International airport at 18.12 hours.

  1. My president, you have no opposition right. If election are held next month you will make it again. But be carefull of bot lickers

    • We cannot be deceived. We all know that Lungu was behind the petition and only distanced himself after the masses opposed his devious intentions

    • Edgar should praise those people he has even neglected who went to plead for him from Guy Scott when he was EXPELLED from Zambian politics. This time around no one will PLEAD for Edgar from Zambian voters…. it is 2016, no dubious play Edgar, people know you now, #2 crook after RB.

    • The sections in our constitution dealing with the election of a president after death are a farce. Imagine this: If a sitting president died six months before his term expires, a VP would act for three months, elections held, a president elected who would be in office for a month or so. Another election would be held after one month when the term for the elected president has expired!! Two presidential elections would be held within six months. What noncence!

  2. Don’t make Lungu a hero out of this. This is what is expected of any normal President of Zambia. So Lungu’s response is not extraordinary!

  3. LT please be serious even when there is a news drought…surely how can this make it to be “front cover headline news”…please get a dedicated Weekend News Team and get off your backsides. Let’s be serious!!

    Wake up!!

  4. Rid yourself of Davies Chama, Kambwili, a certain head of a certain ministry of finance, and more Zambians shall see you as a dedicated president.

  5. A foreign friend asked me who that man in a hat was and I lied to him and told him it was a notorious conman on our ZP’s most wanted list!

  6. I dont think there is any opposition that can beat lungu? not now. PF has made academic or profesional mistakes which only the educated can see and are few.

    • The increased cost of living, lack of job opportunities in the country, delayed supply of fertilisers, loading shedding, corruption at road blocks and every where in government institutions etc..etc…etc..is surely no perception.

    • The wind of change is blowing across Zambia starting from the east to the west,if edgar know he is winning the 2016 elections why is he scheming to defer the elections to 2020?

  7. Those saying we go for elections in 2021 are right becoz we shall just worst our money and time. we already know who wins next year’s elections its lungu and the two oppositions will lose some MPs

    • Fellow Zedians,
It is not “worst” money or time in the context of what you are saying, but “waste”.

    • @Grundixy: you are right but as Kayula, itself wrote, “mistakes which only the educated can see and are few”. With so much ignorance, most readers have no clue what you are on about. We love hearsay English.

  8. Lungu’s fine stance notwithstanding, any nation with a small mafia powerful to alter rules mid-course of the game has weak institutions.

A nation worth its salt will not alter rules to fit a few bcoz all are equally yoked before the law.Besides, its just weakening the little faith citizens have in institutions of governance.

  9. please help, is it me or is what I am seeing real? when does Lungu work??? he is constantly on the move, attending independence celebrations or by elections or whatever it is called. he is yet to articulate himself on important issues affecting Zambia e.g. healthcare, poverty, poor running of tertiary learning institutions and the list goes on – I hope people will vote wisely

    • You are right buddy. Lungu has nothing to show for his stint as President. No wonder his was trying to extend his stay even though he is denying it now.

    • In Zambia, blabbering and moving about are seen as being hard working. That’s why Sata was admired. Zambians do not look at the results, they just notice the smoke. Lungu is leading Zambia into a quagmire and citizens are cheering him on.

  10. Zambians really have short memories. Does SACCORD and indeed any person with brains expect Lungu to say yes I support them even when he in fact does? Those who recall will remember how Chiluba initially distanced himself from the third term debate whilst sponsoring DCs in the dark to campaign for him. Wake up Zambians. Why are we so docile?

  11. Chiluba did the same on the third term debate he distanced himself but he was busy dishing out brown envelopes.praise for what kwena african politics has to matured, Lord help us.

  12. The whole story was twisted by the POST. They left out most of the parts where he denounced the call for presidential elections to be held in 2020.

  13. ZAMBIANS AND ESPECIALLY THE OPPOSITION LIKE RUSHING TO THE MEDIA EVEN WHEN THEY KNOW THE TRUTH.

THEY KNOW THAT LUNGU WANTS ELECTIONS NEXT YEAR AS HE IS ON RECORD EVER SINCE HE CAME INTO POWER TO HAVE DENOUNCED HIS FELLOW AFRICAN LEADERS WHO CLING TO POWER THROUGH UNCONSTITUTIONAL MEANS.

THE OPOOSITION IN ZAMBIA ARE USELESS. THERE ARE SO MANY CRITICAL ISSUES THAT ARE INJURING ZAMBIANS WHICH THEY OUGHT TO RAISE IN ORDER TO ATTRACT ACTION FROM GOVERNMENT BUT THEY ARE NOT RAISING THEM. INSTEAD WE GET THIS PETTY COMPLIANT.

LET THEM BE LIKE OUR LATE MR. PRESIDO SATA (MHSRIEP), WHO GAVE EFFECTIVE OPPOSITION TO THE RULING GOVERNMENT.

IT IS NOW IN BLACK AND WHITE, COME NEXT YEAR, NI LUNGU BEBELE!!

  14. That piece of law which allows president to appoint ministers from opposition parties is being abused by pf. It’s precarious and discriminatory, vexatious and fictitious. UPND go ahead and appeal to supreme court. Those 3 do not add value to UPND in parliament they vote for pf denying UPND vital points of democracy it’s silly law.

    • @otega, sad you cannot be objective. you may want to consider the plight of your relatives, friends, etc. you will quickly realize that the average among them is struggling. the issues we face in Zambia transcend a few people being able to afford the basics of life. is it not right that in a country with less than 20 million people, everyone should at a minimum being able to live relatively ok?????
it is very sad when seemingly exposed and intelligent people like you cannot reason

    • @ Ndaje Kahks

At least they have their own views. And you? No view. No opinion. No policy. Just repeating same crap time and time again.

  15. Boniface Cheembe is very naive. Which Courts does he trust when it comes to Political Decisions? I’m not sure how old he was when the MMD attempted a Third Term bid! May be he was at kindergarten! Just like the MMD Third Term Attempt was defeated by the Zambians, WE the Zambians will defeat the PF attempt to defer the 2016 elections, courts or no courts! WATCH THIS SPACE. KWATI MATUTUMPILA PAMFULA!

  16. Why does the man dress like a thief? Or like a cartoon character called Hong Kunfui!! The hat has no place in presidential attire!

    • I point this out all the bloody time. This guy is having fun. A president should not have fun but should always be worried about what direction the country is going! Lungu knows he won’t win and from what i have assessed he really does not seem to care and that is why he insists on acting like a dooffus.

  17. Voters ask yourselves ” SINCE THE PF CAME TO POWER HAS LIFE IMPROVED FOR YOU OR ONLY FOR THE PRESIDENT AND HIS FRIENDS?”
    ZAMBIA VOTE WISE!!!!

  18. There are two things, either I need to see a doctor or a doctor needs to see me. How do you want your term extended when you are failing to work.

  19. Lungu has not put the issue to rest because he said he will go by what the court rules on the petition. That should not be the case. He new at the time of taking office that it was only to complete the remaining term from Sata. Precedence was set when R. Banda relinquished his presidency through a new election. Therefore there should be no doubt or debate even in the courts. The petition should be thrown out because precedence had already been set and executed. The high court should not change a process which has already been decided and and demonstrated through specific execution. No need to fight won or lost battles. It is a waste of time and leads to violence and death of innocent people just like in recent African countries.

  20. Be mindful to pray about our beloved nation. Prophet Bushiri on a live telecast yesterday asked his church to pray for Zambia because he sees Zambia crying again some time in August over the life a public figure. He did not mention the name but note Zambia cries again. They took time to pray about it. So, RISE UP AND PRAY.
