Mulyata donates to church album launch

0

Lusaka Province Minister, Sheal Mulyata says government remains committed to supporting the church, describing it as a partner in promoting national peace and unity.

Ms Mulyata says the church must continue playing their rightful role in preaching peace to society.

She said this when hosting the Seventh-day Adventist, Canaan Congregation at her office, where she handed over her 10-thousand-kwacha pledge made towards an album produced by a music group belonging to the church.

The Minister said her office remains devoted to supporting initiatives that uplift people and glorify God, including gospel music.

Ms. Mulyata emphasized that gospel music was vital to national well-being, especially in a Christian nation like Zambia.

“I am delighted to fulfill my K10,000 pledge to Canaan Congregation because my word is my bond. Gospel music is a powerful tool for spreading hope and unity, and I am proud to support the talented artists who are using their gifts to bless our nation. A promise made is a promise kept, and I trust this contribution will help your music reach even more people,” she said.

Ms. Mulyata told the musicians that the pledge and their efforts are an investment in their God-given gifts, urging them to continue in the same spirit, which serves as a powerful tool for positive change, especially among the youthful.

She encouraged them to strive for excellence and produce music that will have an impact not only in their congregation but the entire nation.

“Let this music continue to win souls and help build a stronger, more righteous Zambia. The Government of the Republic of Zambia, under the able leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, remains steadfast in supporting such positive, community-driven efforts,” she said.

The pledge comes after Canaan SDA Church invited the Minister as guest of honour at an event recently, which she could not attend due to other national duties but honored her contribution.

Meanwhile, Assigned Generation Chorale, Music Director Ian Chiwasa, thanked Government for its dedication to supporting the church.

Mr Chiwasa also commended Government for rolling out empowerment programmes that are benefiting the youth.

He added that the church remains focused on taking part in Government programs such as community sensitization on Gender-based violence (GBV) and other social initiatives.

“As a church, we have been running sensitization programs where, at some point, we invited the Zambia Police to help educate the youth on GBV, a good move in building strong and resilient young people who are free from violence,” Mr Chiwasa said .

Cabinet approves major energy, environmental reforms

0

Government has approved a sweeping energy initiative alongside key environmental and legislative reforms following the 22nd Cabinet meeting chaired by President Hakainde Hichilema at State House on Monday.

In a statement issued to the media, Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa said Cabinet has endorsed the establishment of the Presidential Constituency Energy Initiative (PCEI), under which 2-megawatt solar farms will be constructed in each of the 156 constituencies, generating a combined 312 MW of power.

The initiative will be financed partly through the 2026 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), with private-sector involvement and support from cooperating partners, while Local councils will implement the projects, and the generated electricity will be sold to ZESCO.

Mr Mweetwa said the programme aims to expand rural electrification, strengthen energy resilience and create a steady income stream for constituencies through power sales.

He explained that a dedicated project management unit will also be established to fast-track deployment and align the programme with the country’s wider energy transition agenda.

Cabinet further approved the declaration of Mutinondo Falls in Lavushimanda District, Muchinga Province, as a national monument.

The site, one of Zambia’s most ecologically significant landscapes, hosts exceptional biodiversity, including 758 butterfly species (240 of them rare), several endemic species such as the Abantis butterfly and the frog Ptychadena mutinondoensis, 1,769 recorded plant species, 123 orchid species and 362 bird species, qualifying it as an Important Bird Area.

Mr Mweetwa said Mutinondo Falls’ ecological importance, scientific value and tourism potential justify long-term protection and may support a future bid for World Heritage Site status.

Cabinet also approved amendments to the Fisheries Regulations of 2012 introducing an annual fishing ban on Lake Tanganyika from May 15 to August 15.

The regulation aligns Zambia with a regional charter signed with Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo and aims to curb overfishing, protect breeding cycles affected by climate change and strengthen coordinated cross-border fisheries management.

Additionally, Cabinet approved in principle the introduction of the Meteorology Bill, 2025, which seeks to partially commercialise meteorological services and enhance cost recovery.

Mr Mweetwa said the current legal framework has not kept pace with rising demand for accurate weather and climate services.

The proposed law will strengthen the Zambia Meteorological Department, improve disaster-risk reduction and support national climate-change mitigation and adaptation initiatives.

Mr Mweetwa said all decisions reflect government’s focus on energy security, environmental conservation and modernising key national services.

Government targeting the production of 10 gigawatts of electricity

Government targeting the production of 10 gigawatts of electricity
Government has announced that it is targeting the production of 10 gigawatts of electricity to meet rising national demand and strengthen Zambia’s energy security. The ambition was confirmed during a ministerial update in Parliament, where Energy Minister Peter Kapala said the target is part of long-term planning intended to expand generation capacity across multiple provinces.

Mr Kapala told lawmakers that Zambia’s current installed capacity is insufficient to meet present and projected consumption patterns, particularly during dry periods when hydropower stations underperform. He said government intends to diversify energy production by supporting investment in solar, wind, hydro and geothermal resources. He noted that early-stage assessments show that Zambia has suitable landscapes for broader renewable energy development.

The minister stated that several generation projects were already underway, contributing to the mid-term goal. He said feasibility studies had been completed for solar farms, while private-sector partners had expressed interest in co-investing in large-scale generation facilities. He said the ministry was focused on stabilising the national grid and increasing resilience to climate fluctuations.

Mr Kapala added that reforms in the electricity sector were aimed at clearing bottlenecks that previously slowed independent power producer participation. He said tariff adjustments and policy alignment had helped improve investor confidence, positioning Zambia for increased energy generation in the coming decade. He said the ministry expects new projects to contribute significantly to the 10-gigawatt target once agreements are finalised.

He informed Parliament that the government was prioritising the expansion of transmission infrastructure to support the increased generation capacity. He said poor transmission networks have previously limited Zambia’s ability to move power from generation points to areas with high demand. Upgrading and extending the grid, he said, is essential to ensure that all new power contributes reliably to national supply.

During follow-up questions, MPs expressed concerns about load management and whether the new capacity would reduce the recurrence of electricity shortages. Mr Kapala said the programme was designed specifically to eliminate vulnerability caused by drought patterns and inadequate generation. He said achieving the 10-gigawatt target would place Zambia among countries with secure and sufficient power for domestic use and exports.

He said the ministry had engaged technocrats to ensure that all regulatory requirements were met and that new investments would be integrated into long-term national planning. He emphasised that cooperation with private energy developers remains crucial, as government alone cannot meet the capital demands required for expanded generation.

Mr Kapala also highlighted Zambia’s potential to become a regional supplier of electricity. He said neighbouring countries have expressed interest in long-term power purchase agreements once Zambia’s capacity increases. He said the ministry is preparing frameworks to ensure that domestic needs are prioritised even as export opportunities expand.

The minister said the programme would be implemented in stages, with periodic reviews to adjust timelines, account for financial constraints and incorporate emerging technologies. He noted that the 10-gigawatt target was achievable if current investment interest continues and if ongoing policy reforms remain consistent.

He told Parliament that government is committed to protecting consumers by ensuring that tariffs remain fair while still encouraging investment. He said the long-term aim is to create a balanced environment where new power generation benefits citizens, industry and the overall economy.

Mr Kapala concluded by stating that government views energy as a foundation for economic growth and intends to continue expanding Zambia’s capacity through transparent partnerships and well-planned infrastructure improvements. He said the ministry would provide periodic updates to Parliament as the projects progress.

Kabwe Senior Citizen hails President Hichilema’s stance on unity

0

A senior citizen in Kabwe District in Central Province has described President Hakainde Hichilema’s press briefing as unifying.

Whiteson Phiri of Chowa extension has told the media in an interview that the consistent message of national unity by the Head of State was not merely rhetoric, but a foundational political principle.

Mr Phiri observed that President Hichilema’s firm stance against protests and violence, while advancing dialogue, was a crucial change in the way you do things or think about in governance that prioritizes stability and discourse over coercion.

He said the statement by the republican President was a clear indication that his government believed in the power of engagement and the rule of law.

“By choosing dialogue as a primary tool for conflict resolution, President Hichilema has demonstrated mature politics,” he said.

Mr Phiri added that the call by the President can foster a political environment where progress is achieved through consensus rather than confrontation

“This philosophy represents a significant shift in Zambia’s governance, one that places its faith in the collective patience and intelligence of the Zambian people to support a methodical and inclusive path to development, firmly rejecting the politics of fear and division that have long held the nation back,” he added.

Luapula probes Mwense Mine spill

1

The Provincial Administration in Luapula has assured Mwense residents and other stakeholders that a comprehensive position is being developed following the breach of a tailings dam at the EZED Chinese Copper Mining firm, which recently discharged effluent into a stream in Mwense District.

The incident, believed to have occurred after the first heavy rains of the season, prompted an immediate on-site assessment by government officials led by Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Prudence Chinama.

Speaking at the site, Ms. Chinama said experts from the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) and the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development have commenced a full-scale investigation to determine the cause and extent of the environmental impact.

“Our priority is the safety of our people and the environment. We have moved with speed to assemble a multi-agency team to address this situation,” she said.

She cautioned against issuing premature statements or assigning blame before technical teams complete their scientific assessment.

“We are here, we are concerned, and we are acting based on facts, not speculation,” she added.

Ms. Chinama noted that while technical assessments and containment efforts continue, the Mwense District Administration has initiated urgent interventions to support affected communities whose stream water source has been compromised.

She stressed that the final report will guide the next steps, including potential remedial or punitive action.

“Let the process work. We are committed to transparency and holding the responsible party accountable, but based on factual evidence,” she said.

During a briefing earlier, Mwense District Commissioner HappyStone Mwape outlined immediate measures taken in collaboration with the District Joint Operations Committee (DJOC), the local authority and the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

Mr Mwape said communities have been sensitised about the dangers of consuming fish or using potentially contaminated water for drinking or agriculture.

He added that water bowsers have begun distributing clean water.

“We will not let our people suffer. The district administration immediately activated an emergency water distribution programme to deliver safe drinking water to affected communities,” he said.

He added that although the mobile distribution is temporary, it remains crucial, and his office will continue working with the Provincial Administration to develop long-term solutions to challenges arising from the effluent spill.

And Luapula Province DMMU Coordinator Abel Mwape also confirmed that chlorine supplies have been allocated for distribution to affected communities through the Mwense District Administration.

Government launches Service Delivery Charters to enhance accountability

0

Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, has directed all Level one and Level two hospitals in the country to operationalise their communication plans without delay.

Dr Muchima said clear communication is important as it builds trust, improves client satisfaction and strengthens accountability.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Kennedy Lishimpi during the launch of the Generic Service Delivery Charters for Level One and Level Two Hospitals, Statutory Board Charters, the Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and the Communication and Advocacy Strategy for Health Facility Charters in Lusaka.

Dr Muchima stressed that transparency in the health sector can only be achieved if the public is fully informed about the available services, hence the importance of the launched Communication and Advocacy Strategy.

The minister noted that the launched Service Delivery Charters represent a formal social contract between health institutions and the public, outlining expectations and requirements for quality service delivery.

He indicated that the launched tools mark a significant milestone in the county’s national efforts to strengthen performance, accountability and transparency in health service delivery.

“The new dawn government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema places strong emphasis on delivering quality, equitable and people driven health services. This commitment is clearly outlined in the UPND Manifesto on health and further aligns with vision 2030, the National Health Strategic Plan and the global Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 on Good Health and well-Being,” he added.

Dr Muchima further urged all Provincial Health Directors and hospital management teams to actively utilise the Comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and ensure regular reporting and dissemination of performance results.

And speaking earlier at the same function, Presidential Delivery Unit Acting Delivery Manager for Enhanced Public Services, Chitambeya Mukwangole expressed the unit’s readiness to support the Ministry of Health in providing full consistent and accountable implementation of the charters.

Ms Mukwangole has encouraged the public to use the charters to articulate their rights and provide feedback in order to promote a culture of accountability and transparency in the health sector.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Management Development Division under Cabinet Office, Alfred Sakwiya called for public display of the charters in health facilities, adding that they must be understood by health workers and explained to the general public.

Mr Sakwiya pledged Cabinet Office’s continued oversight and technical guidance to ensure that the implementation of the charters contributes to the broader national public service reforms agenda.

Meanwhile, Clinton Health Access Initiative Zambia Country Director, Hilda Shakwelele has also committed to support the roll out institutionalisation and continuous improvement of the charters across provinces and facilities.

Health PS warns Kafue general hospital staff

0

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Kennedy Lishimpi, has warned Kafue General Hospital staff against misconduct towards service delivery.

Dr Lishimpi, who recently visited Kafue General Hospital, found some clinics at the health facility, not open by 09:00 hrs.

He says it is saddening that Kafue General Hospital was in the habit of opening the clinics late to the disadvantage of the patients.

The Permanent Secretary was speaking during the launch of the generic service charters for level one and level two hospitals in Lusaka.

He further cautioned other health facilities in the country to desist from opening the clinics late, stating that the habit compromises efficiency.

Dr Lishimpi said health facilities are expected to open clinics early in order to serve the patients better.

He has since urged the hospital supervisors and Provincial Health Directors to ensure that they address erring health facilities.

“We are heading the Ministry of Health on behalf of the Zambian people and all of us are supposed to pay attention to the quality of services we are delivering,” he said.

He further reminded the Provincial Health Directors, Senior Medical Superintendent and Medical Superintendents to ensure that the launched service chatters are put into action.

Dr Lishimpi also stated that there is need to improve the work culture at Kafue General Hospital.

“I have singled out Kafue General Hospital but that doesn’t mean it is the only one, even other hospitals may be doing what Kafue General Hospital is doing, so let us make sure we improve,” he said

He emphasised the need for the supervisors in various health facilities to ensure quality health service outcomes.

Govt celebrates Nachisungu’s open defecation free status

0

Minister of Water Development and Sanitation Collins Nzovu says the attainment of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status  in Nachisungu area in Isoka demonstrates real progress in improving public health and restoring dignity in rural communities.

Mr Nzovu has reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring that every household has access to safe and reliable sanitation facilities.

Speaking during the ODF celebration held in Nachisungu in Isoka District, Mr Nzovu said the milestone shows the impact of coordinated community action and collaboration with partners.

“This achievement reflects more than just building toilets. It signifies improved health, greater dignity and real progress for our communities,” he noted.

Mr  Nzovu added that open defecation fuels diseases such as cholera, dysentery and typhoid, noting that the 2025 theme ‘Sanitation in a Changing World’ reminds the nation that sanitation remains essential regardless of changing conditions.

And World Vision Representative Masautso Nqumayo said sustainable development cannot be achieved without access to clean water and proper sanitation.

“Sustainable well-being is impossible without equitable access to clean water, dignified sanitation and appropriate hygiene practices. That is why we are proud of the achievements we are celebrating today,” he highlighted.

He noted that World Vision has supported communities through the construction of 5,526 basic latrines, drilling 35 boreholes, equipping 22 hand pumps and installing 13 mechanised mini water systems.

He added that World Vision has also constructed six ablution blocks for schools and health facilities, with plans to drill 28 more boreholes in 2026.

And speaking on behalf of Chief Kafwimbi, Chimwenje Mukwasa described the ODF achievement as a shared victory for the district.

“There is nothing more inspiring than communities coming together to improve sanitation. Isoka is ODF today because government, World Vision and our village members worked tirelessly to ensure every household built a toilet,” he said.

Mr Mukwasa further called for continued collaboration between the community, the government and all stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Blessing Chabinga, a beneficiary thanked World Vision and government for various programmes including those that have improved children’s welfare in Isoka District.

“The programmes on water, sanitation and hygiene, financial literacy, child protection and GBV have helped us continue with our education. We also appreciate government for the free education policy,” she said.

The ODF declaration covers five wards in Isoka District namely, Kantenshya, Kalungu, Sansamwenje, Kapililonga and Chinyonga.

Public engagements on elections important- DC

0

Mansa District Commissioner Ireen Chivweta has urged the Human Rights Commission to continue public engagements on elections and human rights.

Speaking when she opened the one-Day Stakeholders Meeting on Elections and Human Rights in Zambia in Mansa District, Ms Chivweta noted that elections are deeply connected with human rights, particularly the rights to participation, expression, association, peaceful assembly and access to accurate information.

She stated that it is  important that citizens are well informed, empowered and encouraged to participate meaningfully and inclusively in the democratic process.

“Through these discussions we are having today, we aim to deepen our collective understanding of our democratic rights and explore practical strategies to respond to the challenges that may arise as we seek to uphold them,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission Manager for Human Rights and Advocacy, Simon Mulumbi, said the Human Rights Commission is mandated to address all matters of human rights at all levels in the country.

Mr Mulumbi stated that the Commission was conducting countrywide sensitisation meetings on human rights and elections which are scheduled for 2026.

“The Commission is aware that most of the people are at least aware of some of the human rights and it is why this platform is important for the stakeholders to come and have conversations about human rights and elections,” he said.

Mr Mulumbi, therefore, stressed that the Human Rights Commission is a non-partisan institution and accommodates everyone.

“Together we can develop a human rights culture in Zambia and protect everybody and we are hoping that through this process, we shall have a conducive environment for holding elections where all people are free to participate,” he said.

Redress Mechanism vital for GEWEL Project Success

0

Central Province Education Officer (PEO) Mambe Hamududu says the harmonised Redress Mechanism (GRM) is an essential to ensure the success of the Girls’ Education and Women’s Empowerment and Livelihood, (GEWEL) Project.

Ms. Hamududu has observed that government with financial technical support from the World Bank  has been implementing the GEWEL programme since 2016 to give hope to the most vulnerable people in society.

Ms. Hamududu said this in a speech read for her by Kabwe District Administrative Officer  Stanford Petulu during a stakeholder’s engagement meeting on harmonized GRM.

“This stakeholder’s engagement meeting is a step in our collective efforts towards ensuring that the GEWEL Project continues to improve the lives of Zambia’s most vulnerable citizens,” Ms Hamududu said.

She noted that GEWEL is a comprehensive social assistance project that provides Social Cash Transfer (SCT) to vulnerable households, livelihood support to extremely poor women and access to education for disadvantaged adolescent girls in selected districts across the country.

She said the project is not just about providing financial support but creating an environment where women and girls thrive in skills, knowledge and support they need for a better future.

Ms. Hamududu called for strengthened adaptive social protection systems and the capacities of institutions involved in GEWEL 2.0 with focus on girls and women’s empowerment and digital solutions.

Earlier in his welcoming remarks, Provincial Community Development Officer  Titson Chipeta said inclusivity is a critical component for successful implementation of programs and projects.

Mr Chipeta noted that there are no institutions that could single-handedly achieve success project implication without the act of other collaborators.

Northern Province records decline in reportage of GBV

0

Northern Province has recorded a reduction in reports of Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases.

Northern Province Minister, Leonard Mbao, has disclosed that the region has also recorded a decline in reported GBV cases from 175 in the first quarter, 166 in the second quarter to 138 in the third quarter of 2025.

Mr Mbao noted that despite the drop in cases of GBV being reported, the number of women and girls being abused is still a source of concern.

In a speech read for him by Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Beauty Phiri during the launch of 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence in Senga Hill district, Mr Mbao called for collective responsibility to end the scourge.

“The new dawn government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting gender equality and ending all forms of violence against women and girls,” Mr Mbao said

He said this year’s theme “Unite to end digital violence against all women and girls,” underscores the pressing need to address the escalating threats.

He emphasised the need for concerted efforts to strengthen laws that protect women and girls from abuse on online platforms.

“Cyberbullying, non-consensual sharing of private images, sextortion, online blackmail, stalking, hate speech and disinformation are just a few examples of emerging threats that women and girls face online,” he said.

Earlier, Senga Hill District Commissioner, Elizabeth Goma, said there is need for stakeholders to address emerging threats, especially digital violence.

Ms Goma added that digital platforms should be spaces of learning, empowerment and opportunity and not places of harassment.

At the same event, World Vision-Zambia, Mwamba Cluster Area Programmes Acting Manager, Simon Phiri, stated that the fight against GBV is not a responsibility of the government alone.

Mr Phiri has since called for affirmative action to vices such as child marriages, intimate partner violence, defilement, harmful cultural practices and economic abuse.

“The fight against gender based violence is not for the government alone, we all need to come together, these acts destroy families, hinder development and weaken communities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senga Hill Council Chairperson, Kings Sikainga, echoed the need for increased awareness and combined efforts in curbing the growing threats of digital violence.

The 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence runs from November 25th to December 10th 2025 under the theme, “Unite to end digital violence against all women and girls”.

A number of community sensitisation activities have been lined up by various stakeholders.

Zambia’s inflation slows to 10.9% as non-food prices ease

0

Zambia’s annual inflation rate for November 2025 has slowed to 10.9 percent, down from 11.9 percent in October.

Meanwhile, the country recorded a strong rise in international trade activities in October 2025, marking significant shifts across both consumer prices and external trade.

The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats), Acting Statistician General, Sheila Mudenda, says the annual inflation softened due to price reductions in several non-food items, including fuel such as petrol and diesel, domestic and regional airfares, vehicle purchases and paraffin.

Ms Mudenda said this in Lusaka today at the monthly economic updates where she released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the International Merchandise Trade figures that provide a snapshot of national price movements and trade performance.

She said food inflation slightly decreased to 13.9 percent from 14.1 percent in October, driven by lower prices in cereals such as breakfast and roller mealie meal, maize grain, samp and wheat flour, fruits and vegetables.

Ms Mudenda however noted that monthly inflation rose to 0.7 percent, up from 0.4 percent in October 2025 due to price increases in meat, fish, dried beans and Irish potatoes.

She also explained that monthly non-food inflation edged up to 0.6 percent, influenced by higher prices of imported spirits, garments, accommodation services, suitcases and umbrellas.

Ms Mudenda said provincial rates show mixed trends with Western Province recording the highest annual inflation at 15.5 percent, while Luapula posted the lowest at 7.6 percent in the month of November 2025.

However, inflation declined in Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Luapula, Northern, Southern and Western provinces, but rose in Lusaka to 12.8 percent and in North-Western Province to 13.8 percent in this month.

Meanwhile, Ms Mudenda said there was strong performance in external trade as the total trade for October 2025 increased by 6.6 percent, rising to K60.4 billion from K56.7 billion recorded in September.

She said Zambia posted a trade surplus of K1.1 billion, up from K0.4 billion in September.

“Cumulatively, total trade rose by 17.6 percent, from K468.4 billion in 2024 to K550.7 billion in October 2025,” she explained.

She further disclosed that non-traditional exports (NTEs) however, decreased by 3.6 percent, falling from K9.4 billion to K9.1 billion.

The gold export earnings for October 2025 stood at K351.2 million, accounting for 3.9 percent of NTEs, up slightly from 3.7 percent in September while copper prices on the London Metal Exchange rose by 7.5 percent, increasing from US$9,950 in September to US$10,700 in October.

Refined copper export volumes increased by 10.1 percent, rising from 642,500 metric tons in 2024 to 707,500 metric tons in 2025 while agricultural and non-agricultural exports increased by 2.8 percent, from K2.3 billion to K2.4 billion, driven mainly by tobacco and maize seed exports.

ECZ extends voter registration by three days

0

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has extended the 2025 Mass Voter Registration exercise by three days.

The extension will run from Thursday, 27 November, to Saturday, 29 November 2025.

Initially, the registration exercise was scheduled to end today, Wednesday, 26 November 2025.

Speaking during a press briefing at the ECZ Head Office, ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said the Commission had been overwhelmed by reports from various provinces, including Lusaka.

“Having taken into account the field reports, the observed progress, and the remaining number of unregistered eligible citizens, the Commission has decided to extend the voter registration period by three days,” she said.

Mrs Zaloumis said that the Commission does not anticipate any further extension beyond 29 November 2025 and urged all unregistered citizens to take advantage of the additional days.

“The Commission wishes to inform the nation that this three-day extension has been granted with full consideration of the 2026 General Election Roadmap,” she added

The media reports that this marks the second extension of the Mass Voter Registration exercise, which began on 13 October 2025 and had initially been scheduled to conclude today.

Chungu maternity annex nears completion

0

Construction of the maternity annex at Chungu Rural Health Centre in Lupososhi District has reached an advanced stage.

Lupososhi District Commissioner Simon Mwenya, who toured the site, expressed satisfaction with the progress made, noting that the facility will bring renewed hope to expectant mothers and the broader community.

Mr Mwenya  said the annex, being constructed at a total cost of K2.7 million, is expected to significantly improve maternal and child health services once completed.

He stated that the annex will also reduce the long distances women currently travel to access specialised medical care.

Mr Mwenya noted that the new facility will ease congestion at the existing health centre and enhance the overall quality of health service delivery in the district.

“We are very pleased with the pace and quality of construction. This maternity annex will transform health service delivery by ensuring that mothers receive care in a safe and dignified environment,” he said.

He emphasized that the project aligns with government’s commitment to strengthening rural health infrastructure and ensuring equitable access to essential services.

Once operational, the annex is expected to help reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, which remain a concern in the area.

Mr Mwenya added that the advanced stage of construction signals that the facility could soon be handed over, marking a major milestone for the district’s health
