According to Mr Moola, the incident happened yesterday at around 15:20 hours.

He said the death was reported to Mpika Police Station at around 19:35 hrs by Michael Bwalya aged 47, the uncle to the victim.

Imenda Halts Public Statements as UPND Moves to Restore Message Discipline

0

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has directed all its lower structures to halt public statements with immediate effect after a series of conflicting remarks from junior officials placed the party under intense scrutiny.

Secretary General Batuke Imenda issued  instructions ,  that all political commentary must be cleared through his office and the Chairperson for Information and Publicity, working through the Party’s Media Director.

“It is the guidance of the Party that all official statements must be cleared through the Office of the Secretary General and the Chairperson for Information and Publicity, through the Party’s Media Director,” Imenda said. He explained that the internal control was aimed at ensuring accuracy, consistency and alignment with the party’s official positions.

The directive follows a turbulent period marked by contradictory statements from individuals at district and youth levels. One of the most notable incidents involved Kabwe Acting Youth Chairman Kelvin Mwangala, who released an early statement suggesting that UPND cadres assaulted former minister Given Lubinda. He later circulated a retraction that differed sharply from his first version, drawing public attention to the conflicting messages.

Tension increased when UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe appeared on television and stated that the party “does not know” Mwangala. The comment created further debate, particularly as opposition figures used the situation to argue that the ruling party lacked centralised control over its messaging.

The incidents coincided with national focus on recent political violence, including the assault at the PF Secretariat, the Kabwe episode involving Lubinda and the stoning of President Hakainde Hichilema’s motorcade in Chingola. In each case, various UPND members published their own accounts before the party had issued verified information, creating a series of competing narratives across social media.

UPND leadership has been attempting to address this pattern for several months. Since the party entered government in 2021, its structures have expanded rapidly, bringing in large numbers of provincial and ward-level leaders who use Facebook to comment on national issues. This growth has increased the number of voices presenting themselves as official spokespeople. According to senior members, statements often appear online before national officials have coordinated a response, resulting in confusion around the party’s stance on sensitive matters.

Imenda said the new directive is intended to re-establish a single authoritative channel. He warned that any member or structure that issues unauthorised statements will be subject to disciplinary measures under the party’s regulations. “Any member or structure found issuing unauthorized statements will be in breach of party regulations and will face appropriate disciplinary action,” he said.

He added that the UPND remains focused on promoting responsible communication. “The UPND remains committed to upholding peace, unity, and the rule of law. We urge all members to continue promoting the values of discipline and responsible communication that our Party stands for,” he stated.

Internal sources say the leadership is concerned that the speed of online commentary has created a cycle where unverified statements are shared widely before the party can confirm facts. This situation became more apparent over the past two weeks, as party members delivered conflicting explanations of the Kabwe violence and the Chingola incident. In several cases, the national secretariat later issued clarifications that differed significantly from the first statements released by lower structures.

The communications blackout will require all district, constituency, ward and youth officials to refrain from making public comments, including on their personal social media accounts, without prior clearance. The party hopes the restriction will reduce public confusion and prevent further contradictions during periods of heightened political attention.

Opposition parties have already incorporated the recent inconsistencies into their criticism of the ruling party. Whether the blackout succeeds in stabilising the party’s message will depend on the enforcement of disciplinary actions in the coming days, as the UPND attempts to re-establish firm control over its internal communication lines.

Zambia and Italy to sign Tourism MoU

0

Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, says he will on November 25, 2025 sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Italian Ambassador to Zambia, Enrico De Agostini, aimed at boosting Zambian-Italian culinary collaboration.

The Minister disclosed this in an interview with the media on the sidelines of the 10th Edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World held in Lusaka.

Mr Sikumba said the MoU is expected to attract more Italian tourists to Zambia and Inspire reciprocal travel, as well as cementing the friendship between the two nations.

“We have a pivot to learn what the Italians are doing and how they are pushing tourism. I strongly believe we have a lot to learn from our colleagues from Italy and create more fusion, but more so on the bilateral side, because what creates a bond between two countries is purely the fusion of two cultures, thereby, creating the bond of friendship,” he explained.

He further stated that the Italian Ambassador has invited 10 students from Zambia Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Studies (ZITHS) to train with a renowned Italian Chef currently in the country.

The Minister indicated that the exposure will give students hands-on experience in Italian food production.

And speaking at the same event, the Italian Ambassador to Zambia, Enrico De Agostini, highlighted the diplomatic value of the Italian Week.

He stressed that the Italian week and cuisine is a basis of diplomacy creating good relations between the two countries.

Mr Agostini stated that hosting the Italian cuisine also showcases the Italian culture to Zambian audiences and provides a platform to identify Zambian talent in the arts industry, forging an unbreakable bond with Zambia.

Chisamba DC warns FSP farmers against selling inputs

0

Chisamba District Commissioner Joel Mboyoma has warned beneficiaries of the Food Security Pack (FSP) against selling the 2025-2026 farming inputs.

Mr Mboyoma has emphasized that such actions undermine government efforts to fight hunger and poverty.

Speaking during the flag-off of the input distribution exercise at the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) main depot in Chisamba, Mr Mboyoma said any beneficiary found selling inputs will face stern action.

“Those selling the inputs under this programme will be blacklisted. You should not be accomplices, report them,” he cautioned.

He described the distribution as timely and directed the District Community Development Officer to ensure that all beneficiaries receive their packages by the end of next week.

The District Commissioner also urged farmers to put the inputs to proper use to ensure household food security and meet government recovery requirements.

Meanwhile, District Community Development Officer Mwaka Mukimba revealed that Chisamba has a caseload of over 1,200 beneficiaries under rain-fed agriculture.

She said each beneficiary will receive a package comprising two 50kg bags of basal dressing fertiliser, two 50kg bags of top-dressing fertiliser, maize seed and a legume.

“These beneficiaries were processed through the FSPIMS and after final selection, they were issued ATCs indicating what each beneficiary is entitled to,” she explained.

And First-time beneficiaries Meja Tembo and Kwandu Sibanyama expressed gratitude, stating that the support will boost their agricultural productivity.

Ministry of Education receives sanitary pads and school books

0

The Ministry of Education has received a donation of sanitary pads and school books from Sanlam Life Insurance, aimed at reducing absenteeism among girls and supporting learners who lack adequate learning materials.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, says the donation will complement government’s efforts to keep girls in school, noting that menstrual hygiene should no longer be a barrier to education.

The media reports that Mr Syakalima reiterated that government is already supplying sanitary pads to schools and investing in improved female sanitation facilities, including toilets with showers, to ensure girls remain in class throughout the month.

“A girl child would miss at least seven days of school every month due to lack of sanitary pads, but interventions have been made,” he said.

He further highlighted that following the introduction of free education, school enrolment has risen to over 2.3 million learners nationwide, creating a greater need to keep every child in the classroom.

He added that investing in education is key to national development, stressing that returns on investment will be reflected through the innovations that learners produce.

Mr Syakalima thanked Sanlam Life Insurance for the gesture and urged other stakeholders to partner with the government, saying the sanitary pad distribution programme is ongoing and requires collective support.

Sanlam Life Insurance Chief Executive Officer, Mainga Kwenda, said the donation will be distributed to Senanga District, where assessments revealed a high number of vulnerable girls in need of menstrual hygiene support.

“Menstrual hygiene and lack of stationary should not keep a girl child or boy child from school, it’s important to ensure such needs are catered for,” he said.

Mr Kwenda has since reaffirmed Sanlam’s commitment to supporting the initiative, stating that ensuring girls do not miss school due to lack of sanitary pads and school books aligns with the institution’s corporate social responsibility priorities.

Warning to a Deceitful UPND: Your Real Enemy Isn’t PF, It’s the Zambian People You Fooled

6
THE VERY PEOPLE YOU FOOLED WILL BE YOUR DOWNFALL

By Zephenia Phiri

What we witnessed in Kabwe is not an isolated event. It is the unmasking of a monster we, the Zambian people, helped create with our own votes, our own hope, and our own pain. Seeing Given Lubinda beaten and dragged like an animal was a visceral moment of clarity for every Zambian whose heart still bleeds for this nation. It exposed the violent, deceitful core of the UPND, a party that has forgotten the very foundation of its painful ascent to power.

Let us speak the truth that the UPND and their sycophants in the media dread. This party did not win in 2021 because they were angels; they won because they masterfully, diabolically, engineered a campaign of such twisted propaganda that they made the Patriotic Front look more advanced than the devil himself.

I am no PF apologist. The PF had its own glaring shortcomings, its own corrupt elements, and its own violent cadres whom we rightly condemned. But let us be brutally honest: the narrative that Zambia was a war zone, that gunshots were the order of the day, was a gross, calculated exaggeration sold to the masses by Hakainde Hichilema and his machinery. Zambia was not Syria. It was a peaceful nation grappling with problems, not a nation at war. The UPND, through its own provocative violence and a masterclass in manipulation, made the people believe the PF was a demonic entity.

Where are those gassing incidents today? The burning markets? The orchestrated chaos? They were all conveniently pinned on the PF to build a mountain of sympathy for the UPND. If the PF was truly that institutionally evil, why has that same brand of spectacular violence miraculously ceased now that they are out of power? The truth is as plain as day: it was a strategy. A cruel, heartless game to paint a rival as a monster to win the sympathy of the masses.

And we fell for it. We gave them our sympathy, and with it, our votes.

But here we are today. The mask has slipped. And now, you have the audacity to claim there is no opposition? How can there be, when you are holding their balls and throats in a vice grip? You have squeezed the life out of them with the very antics exhibited by the likes of Chabinga, denying them space, permits, and the very oxygen of political existence. You have given them no room to rival you, and in your delusion, you mistake this suppression for popularity.

Your perceived achievements are but a fantasy in your own minds. Your much-touted economic performance is a smokescreen. When we look past the headlines, we see a government drowning in debt, entering into tricky, opaque agreements with the mines, and surrounded by a stench of scandal waiting to erupt, like the issues around the Ndola-Lusaka Dual Carriageway. The day will come when these truths surface. Your tired, pathetic chorus of “It wasn’t me, the PF did it!” is a broken record that has lost all meaning. Tell us, what is so tangible? Where is the transformative change you promised? It is only now, with the clock ticking towards 2026, that we see pockets of promising deals a move I must admit shows some promise but the fact remains, for the masses still suffering, it is rather a bit too little, too late.

So lie to yourselves. Comfort yourselves in your State House bubble. But hear this, and hear it well from the heart of a citizen you have wronged: the day of reckoning, iliche pa corner apo, it is just around the corner.

Your real enemy is not the PF. Your real enemy is the Zambian people. The same masses you manipulated are the same ones watching you now. They see your arrogance, your violence, your failures, and your desperate attempts to silence dissent.

UPND, wake up! The boom you hear is not in the distance; it is the sound of your own house of cards beginning to tremble. The sympathy you exploited has dried up, and all that remains is the scorching heat of the people’s anger.

In fact, come 2026, if I don’t vote for someone else, I will make sure I remove my vote from amongst the 1.8 million that voted for you, kufumyapo ka vote kandi. Ala! I was excited on the Copperbelt, ndetantula ….I have woken up!, i was blind, now i see.

Men urged to help fight GBV

The media reports that Mr Mwanza made the appeal when he officiated at the “Men as Allies” launch during the commemoration of International Men’s Day in Kitwe.

He said the Men as Allies initiative, will place men at the center of the response, positioning them as allies in efforts to prevent and end violence against women and girls.

And Director for Gender Rights Protection, Nchimunya Nkombo, said active involvement by both men and women is critical to reducing cases of Gender Based Violence countrywide.

Meanwhile, Radical Entrepreneur and Influencer Dumisan Ncube challenged men to prioritise a positive mindset for development noting that a positive mindset is essential in addressing social and economic inequalities.

Youth entrepreneurs urged to drive local economic growth

0

Serenje District Commissioner Paul Masuwa has encouraged youth entrepreneurs to work diligently to grow their businesses, stating that their success will help strengthen the local economy and create jobs for fellow young people.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr Masuwa said youth-led businesses have the potential to significantly contribute to the district’s development.

He urged young people to take full advantage of government empowerment programmes such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the Farmers Input Support Programme (FISP) and the Sustainable Agriculture Financing Facility (SAAF) loans.

Mr Masuwa also revealed that Serenje will open a skills resource centre next year, where youths will receive free training in carpentry, food production and other practical skills.

Meanwhile, youth entrepreneur Matildah Mwelwa, who runs a salon employing three young people, praised the government’s empowerment efforts.

“My business has been performing well with the help of the youths I employed. I am confident that if young people take these opportunities seriously, we can achieve great success in Serenje District. However, many youths fail to utilize the programmes available to them,” Ms Mwelwa said.

She appealed to government to continue fighting corruption in public offices to ensure empowerment programmes are more accessible.

Ms. Mwelwa further called for increased sensitisation, especially in rural areas, so that more young people can benefit.

Dr Kambwili urges peace after the attack on Given Lubinda

1

Patriotic Front presidential aspirant Dr Chishimba Kambwili has issued a firm appeal for calm and stronger law-enforcement measures following the recent assault on PF acting president Given Lubinda, warning that unchecked political violence could undermine the integrity of the 2026 general elections.

Through a statement conveyed by his private secretary, Mwila Kennedy, Dr Kambwili denounced the attack as wholly unjustified, arguing that Zambia’s political contestation must be grounded in ideas, persuasion and peaceful mobilisation rather than physical confrontation. He emphasised that President Lubinda was meeting party structures at a private residence, an activity he characterised as lawful and protected, provided it poses no threat to public order or safety.

Dr Kambwili questioned the logic behind claims that the gathering lacked a police permit, observing that such assumptions cannot serve as a pretext for violent conduct. He reminded citizens that national harmony is founded on respect across all seventy-three ethnic communities and urged the public to uphold Zambia’s long-standing commitment to unity.

He further indicated that law-enforcement agencies now face heightened public scrutiny and called on the police command to respond decisively. According to Dr Kambwili, the immediate priority should be the apprehension of the individual who publicly asserted that the attackers acted out of anger over a supposed absence of a permit. He challenged the notion that political supporters can usurp statutory policing responsibilities.

Describing the incident at the PF Secretariat as disturbing, Dr Kambwili reiterated that the matter warrants a clear and unambiguous reaction from the security services. He recalled previous episodes in which individuals wearing ruling-party regalia were detained briefly and later released without substantive follow-up, arguing that such patterns erode public confidence in the justice system and fail to deter similar acts.

Dr Kambwili urged the Inspector General of Police to ensure that all persons connected to the attack face credible investigations, full due process and transparent prosecution. He contended that recurring arrests without meaningful outcomes contribute to perceptions of selective enforcement.

Addressing UPND members, Dr Kambwili appealed for a principled stance when unlawful behaviour occurs. Accountability, he argued, begins with acknowledging wrongdoing and allowing legal mechanisms to function without obstruction. While noting that the ruling party may not have authorised the actions, he insisted that individuals acting independently must still face the law.

He referenced available footage and images showing attackers dressed in UPND-branded clothing, asserting that this should prompt the ruling party to support disciplinary and legal action rather than downplay the events. He encouraged political actors to avoid dismissive commentary that undermines the gravity of such incidents.

Dr Kambwili stated that remaining silent in the wake of such behaviour would be irresponsible, especially in a period leading toward a national election. Failure to confront political violence, he cautioned, increases the likelihood of broader instability during the 2026 electoral process. His intervention, he clarified, is driven by a desire to safeguard national stability rather than partisan gain.

He reminded Zambians of the nation’s tradition of peace dating back to independence in 1964 and urged all political parties, supporters and state institutions to prioritise cohesion and uphold the rule of law as the election approaches.

Dr Kambwili concluded by calling on the police leadership to demonstrate impartiality and resolve, noting that the public expects firm and timely action from the security services as tensions rise ahead of the 2026 polls.

Four Milenge teachers survive lightning attack

0

Four teachers and one male community member at Katena Primary School in Milenge district in Luapula Province have survived a lightning strike, which left two of the victims unconscious.

‎Milenge District Health Director, Mwila Katongo, confirmed that all the victims, including those who were initially unconscious, are currently in stable condition.

“The patients are receiving adequate treatment, and the team on the ground did a wonderful job in resuscitating those who were critically ill. The others are under observation and may be discharged within the next two days.”

Dr. Katongo said.

He observed that no adverse complications or fatalities have been recorded.

The media reports that Dr. Katongo has since urged the public to avoid taking shelter under trees or unfinished buildings, warning that these structures heighten the risk of lightning-related injuries.

The victims were struck while standing under a tree, which is an informal internet “hotspot” used by teachers who struggle to access mobile network from within the school premises.

One of the victims, Deputy Headteacher Nancy Makayi, said they were attempting to complete online banking tasks when the lightning bolt hit.

“We were under the tree searching for internet. I only remember seeing lightning and then my colleagues on the ground experiencing convulsions. I tried to rescue one of them, but I also fell. I do not remember anything after that. People told me my eyes rolled upwards and I had intense muscle spasms,” Ms Makayi recounted from her hospital bed.

She added that the force of the lightning strike was so intense that she even lost a tooth during the incident.

Meanwhile, a community member, Isaac Mulinda, was struck while riding his motorbike within the same radius.

“I just felt like electricity passed through me. I fell, and the next thing I knew I was in the hospital. I still have chest pains, headaches and joint pains,”

he narrated.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness, Enna Meleki, described the scene, saying the teachers were thrown to the ground after a second powerful strike hit the tree.

“We saw clouds forming. The first lightning was not strong, but the second came like glass and hit the tree. Smoke rose, and the teachers were thrown down. They tried to stand but kept falling and convulsing,” Meleki narrated.
