Former Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka District chairperson Goodson Banda has demanded a public apology from Chawama Constituency chairperson Robert Chikwelete for allegedly ridiculing the ruling party and republican President Michael Sata.

This follows President Sata denying ever appointing Mr Chikwelete as PF Lusaka district chairman.

Mr. Banda says instead of thanking President Sata, Mr. Chikwelete should make a public apology for claiming that President Sata had appointed him as PF Lusaka District chairperson when in fact not.

He Mr. Chikwelete has exhibited the worst level of indiscipline which should not go unsanctioned.

And Mr Banda has expressed confidence bouncing back as District chairperson once an election is held.

He says he still commands a high level of popularity in the District.

President Sata has directed the provincial committee to call for a district conference where a new Lusaka district chairman will be elected.

Mr. BANDA has told Qfm in an interview that now that President Sata has stated his position on the matter of the legitimate leadership in the District, he will occupy the PF Lusaka District office until such a time when an election is held.

MINISTER of Defence Geoffrey Mwamba has disclosed that the slain Zambian soldier on a peace-keeping mission in Sudan was killed in a robbery that took place at the gate of his residence.

Mr Mwamba said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that Major Alfred Banda, who was in the company of his colleague, only identified as Major Bwalya, was ambushed at the gate while waiting for someone to open it.

“The incident happened on October 11 around 18:30 hours when the two officers had returned from duty. Men armed with pistols and knives opened the doors [of the car], stabbed Major Banda and sped off with a UN vehicle,” he said.

The minister described the incident as a criminal act.

Mr Mwamba said Major Banda’s body will be flown to Zambia this week.

He said a comprehensive report would soon be issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Banda was serving as a military observer of the United Nations-African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in El Fasher, North Darfur.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the killing of Major Banda and called on the Government of Sudan to bring the perpetrators to justice.

A message from Mr Ban’s office stated that the UN Secretary General is deeply saddened at the death of a Zambian soldier.

“The Secretary-General expresses his deepest sympathies to the families of the fallen peace-keeper, the Government of Zambia and to all UNAMID personnel,” the statement reads in part.

PATRIOTIC Front(PF) deputy secretary General Bridget Atanga has with immediate effect suspended party assistant secretary general in charge of politics Sikwindi Situla. Mr Situla is the the man alleged to be behind the formation of the fourth Republican Party

Ms Atanga said that this followed the recent revelations that Mr Situla was linked to the ‘Fourth Republic’ which was a parallel structure within the PF.

“I therefore find it appropriate to suspend Mr Situla and put him on defence,” Ms Atanga said.

And Sikwindi Situla has given those he alleged to be peddling lies about the party 24 hours to provide evidence failure to which he would take legal action.

Mr Situla challenged the alleged former interim president of the Fourth Republican party Lameck Kamalo to avail members of the public with all details of the party such as a duly completed forms prescribed by the Registrar of Societies among others, including appointment letters of office bearers especially that of Mr Kamalo.

He said the allegations against him and PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba were nothing but false, malicious and highly injurious to his persona, and that of his office adding that it was an act engineered by those in contention for a degree of political power.

Mr Situla said he had since instructed his lawyers Messrs Central Chambers to immediately commence litigation on all those involved in the generation and publication of false stories.

Chikwelete welcomes president Sata’s announcement, will contest for the post of chairman

Robert Chikwelete has welcomed the President Michael Sata’s pronouncement he was never appointed as Lusaka District party Chairman. In an interview with the media today Mr.Chikwelete said that it messaged from the president was good for the party as the words had come from the party president who was the one who recognised him as the Lusaka district chairperson last month at Chawama grounds where he had gone to launch a road project.

He declared that he would contest the same position and urged party officials to start organising themselves so that the said elections could be held soon.

Mr Chikwelete said that the bold move President Sata had taken was an indication that there were parallel structures in the party and that the president wanted to see them come to an end.

He urged party members to heed to the president’s directive and stop issuing parallel statements until the scheduled elections day was set.

“This is a very good directive, this is what we have been waiting for because I was just part of those PF members who were gathered to welcome the President but he recognised me as the Lusaka district chairman. So his directive is welcome, but let me state that, of course, I will contest the position,”

And Lusaka PF provincial chairperson, Geoffrey Chuumbwe said the directive given by the President was wise and needed to be followed by all he said.

Interview with American Gospel Singer Lenora Jones

lenora

Every now and then a new sound is added into the rotation of the gospel music genre. This new sound spreads a message of life and liberty. Lenora Jones is a new contributing factor to this message of hope and restoration. A definite flute with a lion’s heart, this singer/psalmist, musician, evangelist, actress, author and songwriter is the total package equipped with everything needed to be a pillar in the gospel music arena.

KAPA187: Tell us about yourself.

LENORA JONES:  I am Lenora Jones, a wife, mother, teacher, servant, singer, psalmist, and minister of the Good News of Jesus Christ.  I started playing the piano for the church at age 9 and emerged into a singer during that time.  After years of directing choirs and singing solos inside the four walls of the church, I had the desire to be an entertainer because I wanted to share my talents with the world.  I set out to fulfill the dream of being that entertainer in the secular music industry until I developed a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

KAPA187: You started out as an RnB singer in the group X-Cetra. What was your inspiration to transition into Gospel music?

LENORA JONES:   I certainly enjoyed my time with X-Cetra as we were all aspiring to be the next female sensation alongside notable groups such as EnVogue, Xscape, etc.  We were blessed to share stages with many great performers of that time.  Performing with the girls gave me insight on the music industry and was a definite training ground and season of preparation for what was ahead.  However, what has worked for others wasn’t working for me personally.  Many of the opportunities presented then just seemed to come to a halt or fall through as if Someone had another plan for me.  My inspiration to transition into Gospel music came from my pursuit to be closer to God. Spending time in prayer revealed God’s divine will for my musical talents as a singer, songwriter, and arranger.  I understood that I was created to spread the Good News, encourage others, and share a message of hope through my music.

KAPA187: You had success doing “circular” music, did you ever regret going into gospel?

LENORA JONES:   I have no regrets about my willingness to obey God’s purpose for my life.  When God gives you an assignment to do, you will never go wrong.  Doors have been opening ever since.

KAPA187: Having been in the music industry for a long time, do you feel that gospel music is actively spreading the word of God?

LENORA JONES:  Without a doubt, I believe that gospel music is doing its job.  I hear people say to me all the time how this song or that song blessed them and pulled them out of discouragement.  People also have testified of healing and deliverance coming to them through the words of a song.  Not only others but my own experiences with gospel music has been very enriching.  I learned about the Fruit of the Spirit from a song.  I learned about the importance of God’s love through a song.  I have also learned many scriptures through songs.

KAPA187: What has been the best, and worst moments of your career?

LENORA JONES:  The best moments of my career was traveling to Copenhagen, Denmark to share my ministry oversees.  I was amazed to see how the Danish choirs thirsted for gospel music and accepted me as I shared my knowledge with them.  Knowing that God hand picked me to go and share my musical talents only intensified my desire to minister to the nations.  One of the worst moments of my career has been dealing with the false promises from others who say they are called to help you.  It is heartbreaking to have someone tell you that they are going to make your “dream come true” and then have them disappear or avoid your phone calls.  However, it only made me stronger and has caused me to rely solely on God to fulfill my dream.

KAPA187: What do you think is the biggest misconception about gospel artists?

LENORA JONES:   I think that the biggest misconception about gospel artists is that some think that we are not real people who hurt, cry, feel pain, have challenges, etc.  Everyday of our lives is not spent on stage before millions of people.  We have some of the same struggles as others who don’t do what we do.

KAPA187: What challenges have you faced in the music industry?

LENORA JONES:  One of the biggest challenges that I have faced is dealing with the politics of the industry.  Competition is not my focus.  I prefer that we all win souls for Christ as a united effort.  There are some who prefer to focus on who sings best, who writes best, and who has had more success.  However, when you’re anointed by God to carry out His purpose, none of these things matter.  I’m more focused on the condition of people and how my ministry can help solve a problem or fill a need.

KAPA187: Tell us about your E.P and upcoming album “Special offering “, what can we expect from it.

LENORA JONES:  I am extremely excited about my debut project.  Special Offering is my giving back to God what He has given to me.  The songs, the arrangements, the music, I give it all back to Him.  You can expect to praise, worship, be inspired, and encouraged through the artist/producer collaborations of myself, Joey Oscar and Marcus Dawson.  God blessed me with phenomenal producers to help birth this project.  You can expect to hear music that will bless your life for many years to come.

KAPA187: Your single “Stronger” is very motivational, tell us what the song is about.

LENORA JONES:  Stronger is about overcoming obstacles.  It’s about using and appreciating them as stepping stones to develop a more resilient “you”.  Many times struggles arise and people give up, walk out, turn their back, or just quit.  Stronger sends the message that when struggle comes, you don’t have to worry because you’re going to make it through this and you’re coming out of it with your right mind, with strength, and with the victory.  It sends the message that we’re going to stay in the race no matter what.

KAPA187: Apart from music, what do you do in your spare time?

LENORA JONES:   Apart from music I am a teacher by career.  I have dedicated myself to being a life time teacher and counselor.  I also love working with my husband as we share the calling to ministry on our lives as we preach and teach the word of God, pray for others, and encourage the body of Christ.  My spare time also consists of spending time with our son, two daughters, and other family members.  I love to attend my son’s football games, travel, and spend time with close friends.  I also enjoy mentoring others who seek to know God more.

KAPA187: What is your definition of heaven and what do you think it is like?

LENORA JONES:  Heaven is my soul’s final resting place with God.  Heaven was my home before I entered my mother’s womb and it’ll be the home that I return to when I leave this earth.  It’s a beautiful place with continual love, joy, and peace.  There are no problems there only an everlasting place where I can worship and enjoy God timelessly.  I can imagine its purity, vivid colors, fine jewels, and the best of everything there.  One of the songs on my upcoming LP is called Heaven is for Real.  I sing of the angels singing hallelujah and seeing those who have gone before me.  I sing of a place of majesty, glory, and power and seeing His face and all of its splendor.  Heaven is a better place than any place on earth where I’ll be free forever with my Creator.

KAPA187: Any last words for your fans?

LENORA JONES:   To my fans, I am so appreciative of the time you all have taken to listen to and purchase my music, listening to and reading my interviews, and coming out to different venues to hear me minister.  It means so much to me.  I will never take you for granted for you all are my support system and I am forever grateful.  I speak many blessings to my fans now and for many years to come.  I pray for God’s best blessings into the lives of every one of them.

29

Solwezi central MMD Member of Parliament, Lucky Mulusa, said that the rate at which the Zambia is borrowing is alarming and it needs serious attention before the country runs into serious problems.

Mr.Mulusa also observed that Finance Minister, Alexander Chikwanda has done very little to grow the income base.

Mr. Mulusa said that the country is going to record another Budget deficit next year because 10% of 2014 National Budget has been allocated to debt servicing.

He added that the countrys deficit for next year will even be bigger as compared to the 5% deficit the country has recorded this year.

Mr.Mulusa said the 2014 National Budget does not inspire any hope for the Zambian people because the entire budget looks like a supplementary budget.

Shoprite workers countrywide have gone on strike. The workers are demanding among other things improved conditions of service, salary increments and dismissal of some top management officials whom they accuse of being incompetent.

Local union representatives who were found at the scene refused to talk to reporters for fear of being victimized.

Police arrest of Lunda Chief Kakeki condemned

Manifestations of current Leadership crisis

Evil keeps on escalating in the Chiefdoms in Zambia by PF rule of lawlessness. The demonic provocations that the PF government is making are un called for and this is a clear indication of failing to rule the Country.

We are in leadership crisis and as Lundas of Zambezi and we stand on our premises that what is current happening is not healthy.

Last week Chief Kakeki was arrested and remanded in police custody for claiming to be a chief and intending to build a palace in chieftainess Nyakuleng’a’s area in Zambezi.

North Western Province police commissioner Eugene Sibote said Kakeki was illegally enthroned with the title, ‘chief Kakeki’ contrary to section 12 of the chiefs Act Chapter 287 of the Laws of Zambia and further wanted to build a palace in another traditional leader’s area without permission.

In August 2013 at a ceremony held at Mukandakunda,Senior Chief Ishindi of the Lunda speaking people in Zambezi East installed Golden Kakeki who was de-gazetted in 1958 by the colonial masters as sub chief. However, Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkandu Luo said the move to install the named sub chief was not in line with the laid down government procedure and said government will not recognize the newly installed Ex- Chief Kakeki of Zambezi district in North-Western province.

The minister said the resurrection of Sub chief Kakeki has the potential to create further tensions between Senior Chief Ishindi and his sister, Chieftainess Nyakuleng’a if left unchecked. She said government was not communicated to, concerning the installation of Sub chief Kakeki and wondered why Senior Chief Ishindi decided to install a sub chief in Chieftainess Nyakuleng’a ‘s chiefdom without her approval.

Brief Background

The Lunda people had and have the following Chiefs in Zambia;

  1. Mwanta Ishindi
  2. Mwanta Ishima
  3. Mwanta Nyakulen’a
  4. Mwanta Mpidi
  5. Mwanta Nyambanza
  6. Mwanta Chizozu
  7. Mwanta Chisamba
  8. Mwanta Nyachavuma
  9. Mwanta Kakeki

These are the Lunda Chiefs and the one who has the powers to dethrone and enthrone a chief according is Chief Ishindi the son of Mwanta Yaanv.

The Lunda, like the Bemba of Chitimukulu in the Northern part of Zambia came from the Lunda- Luba Empire and were scattered to parts of Zambia,Namibia, Angola, Burundi, and Congo. In Zambia the sons of Mwata Yaanv have a wide history which I cannot go on to explain.

The powers of dethroning and installing of the Chiefs are in the hands of the Lunda Royal Establishment and not the Government. It is the right of the Senior Chief who with his Cabinet when they deem it fit to install a chief or to dethrone a chief. No body under whatever circumstance can come in to disturbalize the rituals of what they have done.

Are more arrests of our chiefs looming?

I wish to mention that what the PF government has done to arrest Chief Kakeki is bad. Are they then going to arrest the Senior Chief Ishindi who installed him as chief Kakeki?

Lundas and other tribes I urge and charge you to be alert or else our traditions and customs are coming to an end. Let us fight and stand together by not allowing what PF is currently doing.

There was a similar occurrence with Senior Chief Sikufele and the installation of Kan’ombi in Kabompo, why have they not arrested him? Similarly in Northern Province when the Lubemba installed the chief who is not recognized by this PF government, why have they not arrested them?

What evil have we done, we people of Northwestern province? How long will this PF government continue dividing us and continue pilfering all the resources from our province and leaving us with nothing? Let us rise on our feet and defend our rights.
The PF government is intent at destroying our Traditions.

Zambia’s External debt rises to $3.13bn

ZAMBIA’s external debt is estimated to have increased marginally by 1.8 percent to US$3.13 billion as at end of September 2013, from US$3.08 billion as at end of 2012.

This increase was on account of net disbursements on the existing loan portfolio, Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda says.

“The interest paid on the current external debt portfolio as at September 30, 2013 was US$90.78 million. As at September 2013, the stock of domestic debt, including arrears, stood at K18.52 billion representing an increase of 22.5 percent from K15.12 billion at the end of 2012.

“As a result, interest payments on Government securities rose by 40.8 percent to K1.69 billion at the end of September, 2013 from K1.20 billion in the corresponding period last year. The rise in the stock is largely on account of higher borrowing induced by the need to increase efforts to grow the economy,” Mr Chikwanda said in his budget address to Parliament on Friday.

To support the provision of long-term financing to the private sector, he said the Government approved issuance of Kwacha-denominated bonds by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and African Development Bank.

Subsequently, in September 2013, the IFC successfully issued a five-year K150 million bond.

According to the minister, these resources are now available to the private sector for investment in Zambia’s economy.

He said with regard to fiscal policy, Government undertook measures to address long-standing structural challenges relating to fuel and maize subsidies as well as distortions in the public service pay structure.

“This was done to reinforce fiscal prudence, as well as enhance productivity for better public service delivery.

As a result of these developments, the projected fiscal deficit for 2013 will be 8.5 percent of gross domestic product, compared to the budget estimate of 4.5 percent,” he said.

UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon, has condemned the killing of a Zambian military observer in Darfur and called on the Government of Sudan to bring the perpetrators to justice.

A message from Mr Ban’s office stated that the UN Secretary-General was deeply saddened to hear of the death of a Zambian military observer of the African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in an attack by unidentified armed assailants in El Fasher, North Darfur, on Friday.

“The Secretary-General expresses his deepest sympathies to the families of the fallen peacekeeper, the Government of Zambia and to all UNAMID personnel,” the statement read in part. “The Secretary-General condemns this deadly attack on the military observer and expects that the Government of Sudan will take swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

In another incident, Mr Ban condemned the attack by unknown armed men on a convoy of UNAMID in which three Senegalese UNAMID peacekeepers were killed and one Senegalese injured in Darfur on Sunday.

“All too often UNAMID peacekeepers are attacked and killed in the line of duty, while helping the Sudanese bring peace to Darfur. These attacks are unacceptable. The Secretary-General calls on the Government of Sudan to bring those responsible to justice,” the statement read.

Youth Activist and former interim president of 4th Republic Party, Lameck Kamalo has called upon President Michael Sata and the Inspector General of Police, Stella Libongani to disband PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba’s private militia group.

Mr. Kamalo disclosed that Mr. Kabimba established a group of militia youths headed by Geoffrey Chumbwe to handle the so called security issues of the party but its real purpose is dubious.

He said the group had been tasked to harass Hon, Wynter Kabimba’s political adversaries in the party and in the Opposition. He also stated the group was also tasked to man the party convention whenever it was going to be held in order to bar Kabimba’s opponent.

Kamalo has also challenged both Mr. Kabimba and Mr. Situla to an open debate on radio or television to defend his facts.

Kamalo also disclosed besides creating parallel structures in the party, Mr Kabimba created the 4th Republic Party together with other organisations that were designed to support his presidential ambitions.

He said that Mr. Kabimba usually expressed displeasure at the manner that President Michael Sata was running the country and urged many party members to be ready to change the course in 2016.

He called on President Michael Sata and the Central Committee to immediately abolish Kabimba’s civil society institutions created for sinister motives. He named the institutions as follows:

  • Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) based in Kabulonga,
  • National Project for Poverty Reduction (NPPR) based on Nangwenya Road,
  • The Youth Centre on Milima Road in Woodlands
  • The Data Centre on Manchinchi Road.

Kamalo also disclosed further details related to the formation of the 4th Republic party, and said that he was tasked to form the party on 2nd March 2013 by PF Assistant Secretary General, Sikwiindi Situla on behalf of Mr. Kabimba.

He said Mr. Situla who also publishes a newspaper called Barotse Times, regularly met him at Godfrey House, at Mr. Kabimba’s law firm.

He appealed to Kabimba and Situla to avail themselves to a public debate to challenge what he has exposed.

He advised the PF leadership to ensure that they dealt with Mr, Kabimba’s dangerous manoeuvres as he had set up many organisations and online newspapers to attack and mudsling his perceived political adversaries in the party and was outside.

He said the 4th Republic Party was meant to usher in the fourth republic where the current constitutional order would be abandoned by making Zambia a federal state. He said that Kabimba insisted that the party was going to be an answer to the 1964 Barotse Agreement.

On Wednesday 9th October, Lameck Kamalo resigned as interim party president of 4th Republic Partyciting dishonest intentions by Mr. Situla and Mr. Kabimba.
