PF government has failed to end poverty-Namugala

MMD Mafinga member of parliament Catherine Namugala says Zambian leaders have not served the people well.

And Namugala said that the PF government had failed to address the high levels of poverty among the poor majority because it has forgotten about the people who voted them into government.

Contributing to the Presidential speech in Parliament yesterday Namugala said that Zambian leaders were irresponsible collectively.

“We are irresponsible leaders; we have allowed foreigners to get land because we are not thinking about our future generation. Now is the time for us to correct what we all know is wrong. As leaders we have not served them (people) well, we have not served them well because even the little space they occupy at the market is being taken over by foreigners. We have forgotten about the people who elected us into government,” said Namugala.

She said that the Patriotic Front in government had been talking about achievements in the past two years which includes the Eurobond and the link 8000 project, which she said was not enough for a government that campaigned and formed government on the premise of poverty reduction.

Namugala said that the PF was failing, adding that it was only fair that its leadership admits its failures as a result of not having the capacity to manage projects being financed by the Eurobond.

“That PF government must admit that there is no capacity to manage the Eurobond so as to create economic value to benefit the people of Zambia. It is sad that we as a nation can borrow and fail to fully utilise a loan which is an opportunity to impact poverty facing our people,” she said.

She said that it did not make sense for the people of Zambia to continue living in abject poverty years after independence, adding that the over dependency on minerals was no longer sustainable for the nation’s economic development.

“The PF has a duty to ensure that Zambians do not continue living in squirrel not now and not in the next 40 years to come. We need to put resources towards sector that can help to grow the country’s Growth Domestic Product (GDP).

She challenged the PF in government to ask themselves what achievements they can account for in the past two years of being in power and how they have impacted the livelihoods of poor Zambians.
And Namugala said that Zambians were living in greater poverty now than they did under the MMD government.

“Have you forgotten about them, have you forgotten that because you have broken your promises the people have no faith in political leadership? Our people are living in worse poverty than they did before you took office, our people in Mafinga are proud that they did not vote for PF,” said Namugala.

She said that the biggest challenge of the PF had been listening to the people of Zambia, “The greatest beneficiaries for good leadership are the people of Zambia. Therefore the PF must listen to what we are saying because we are in contact with the people when you are their being trapped by the benefits of power.

And we want to remind them about the promises they have broken, the PF promised that they would ensure equity in the distribution of land which they have not done.”

More confusion in PF as warring factions in Lusaka interpret Sata’s message differently

FILE: PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Lusaka Province youth chairperson Ackson Nkhoma (with black beret) and Lusaka District chairperson Robert Chikwelete (talking on the phone right) lead the ruling party’s cadres in demonstrating against their secretary-general Wynter Kabimba in Lusaka’s Freedomway

President Michael Sata’s directive to end squabbles in the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has been interpreted differently by the two warring factions at the party’s Lusaka district office with both teams yesterday holding press briefings to claim legitimacy owing to Mr Sata’s sentiments.

While Robert Chikwelete insists that he was the legitimate PF chairman for Lusaka district as he was appointed by President Sata on September 18, 2013, ousted chairman Goodson Banda said the Presidents’ directive that no parallel structures should exist in the party invalidated any power that the Chikwelete led executive could have had.

Mr Chikwelete said during a press briefing held at the district office that anyone opposing his leadership was against his appointing authority who is President Sata.

Reacting to a statement attributed to Vice- President Guy Scott that he and his executive were in office illegally, Mr Chikwelete said it was unfortunate that Dr Scott had teamed up with party members creating parallel structures by defending Mr Kabimba even before his case was heard by the disciplinary committee.

“I wish to remind our PF Vice- President that we shall not vacate the office because my line of authority is drawn from the party President and our loyalty shall remain to him,” he said.

He said Dr Scott should not cast a blind eye to pending disciplinary action against party Secretary General Wynter Kabimba as stated in Mandevu Member of Parliament (MP) Jean Kapata’s letter.

He said the provincial resolutions from the 10 provinces had tabulated the various breaches that Mr Kabimba as chief executive of the Party had committed adding that a resolution was passed that he (Kabimba) be removed from his position.

“We as keepers of the King’s conscience pledge loyalty to his Excellency for him to effectively implement national programmes, fulfilling PF campaign promises to the Zambian people,” he said.

But Mr Banda urged all the district leaders that had been dislodged by the Chikwelete led group to reclaim their positions following the President’s remarks.

Mr Banda who was flanked by his executive and four constituency chairpersons told the meeting which took place under a heavy presence of police at the Courtyard Hotel that all constituency and district officials should stop attending meetings called by Mr Chikwelete.

“That group must go because there is already an elected leadership in place. It is us who will laugh longer,” Mr Banda said.

He said the continued squabbles were making the party unpopular adding that he could not be removed from his position as he had performed to the expectations of the people.

Mr Banda hailed President Sata for putting an end to the squabbles and wondered why the police had not arrested the Chikwelete led executive for criminal trespass.

Mbesuma adds to FAZ Mazembe woes

TP Mazembe stands its ground on the three Zambian stars availability for the Brazil friendly.

2102 Africa Cup winning stars Rainford Kalaba, Nathan Sinkala and defender Stopilla Sunzu are set to miss Zambia’s friendly against Brazil on October 15 in Beijing.

“They are very unlikely to come for the game,” a close source said. The Football Association of Zambia has tried to get the trios’ release but Mazembe has stood its ground in the protracted club versus country row.

The trio is said to be unfit for the friendly at the Birds Nest Stadium due to injury or illness.

However, defender Hichani Himonde has been released for Zambia duty by Mazembe.

Zambia has suffered another blow with news that Orlando Pirates striker Collins Mbesuma and SuperSport United defender Davies Nkausu are also unavailable due to fitness issues and injury respectively.

New Zambia coach Patrice Beaumelle who will already be without dropped local players Chris Munthali of Nkana and Kabwe Warriors’ Kampamba Chintu will now be banking 18 players for the friendly against Brazil at the Birds Nest Stadium in Beijing.

Goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene of Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows defender Joseph Musonda are the first foreign players together with striker Fwayo Tembo, who wants out of Romanian club Astra Giurgiu, to join camp.

Installation of a public pay phone costs UPND a parliamentary seat

The Supreme Court has nullified two more parliamentary seats belonging to the opposition. The Vubwi and Zambezi West Parliamentary seats were nullified on grounds that Members of Parliament for the two seats breached the Electoral Code of Conduct during by-elections.

The Vubwi seat belonged to MMD’s Eustakio Kazonga while the Zambezi West was for United Party for National Development’s (UPND) Charles Kakoma.

[pullquote]Judge  Wanki said in his judgement although their illegal practices were not widely spread that both respondents participated in illegal activities that prevented the majority voters from electing their preferred MPs[/pullquote]

Judge Muyinda Wanki said in his judgement that both respondents participated in illegal activities that prevented the majority voters from electing their preferred MPs although their illegal practices were not widely spread.

Mr Justice Wanki said Mr.Charles Kakoma’s decision to donate a public pay-phone, given to his constituency by the Ministry of Community Development in June 2011 which he in August 2011 gave to Likungu Basic School in his capacity as MP raised so many questions.

Justice Wanki said this amounted to illegal activities because he purported to be an MP and yet Parliament had already been dissolved. Justice Wank said he should have left the task to any civil servant to deliver the public phone.Instead he donated it in his personal capacity and even signed in the visitor’s book indicating that he had made a donation.

Mr Justice Wanki said the High Court misdirected itself when it held that it could not nullify the election because the diversion of the hammer mills from Mwanse to Chinyingi did not influence the majority voters in the area.

“As already stated, once the appellant proved the illegal accusations under Section 93 (2) of the Act, there is no further burden to prove it. I therefore nullify the Zambezi West elections and order for fresh elections,” he said.

MMD’s Eustakio Kazonga was accused of giving of K20, 000 to each of the headmen that attended his meetings prior to elections. In his Judgement,Judge Muyinda Wanki said “In the circumstances I hereby find merit in the appeal and hold that Dr Kazonga was not validly elected as MP and declare his election nullified. I order that each party will bear their own costs both here and for the court below,” Mr Justice Wanki said.

He said the lower court erred when it found that the respondent had engaged himself in electoral malpractices by giving the said monies to headmen who attended his meetings but failed to nullify the election on that ground which was clear in the Electoral Act.

Nurses to be charged with absenteeism

Health minister Joseph Kasonde has said the strike action by the nurses is illegal as no industrial dispute has been declared by any of the nurses unions. The health minister said government will press normal charges of absenteeism to nurses and midwives at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) who have continued with the illegal work stoppage.

Dr Kasonde said this in a ministerial statement in Parliament today following a point of order raised last week by MMD Chipata Central Member of Parliament (MP) Mtolo Phiri who wanted Government to explain the cause of the strike.

The Health minister however acknowledged that there were anomalies in some nurses’ wages following the change over to the new salaries and conditions of service which were effected in September. He said Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation (ZUNO) is currently engaging the Public Service Management Division to rectify the anomalies in the salaries which have seen some nurses receiving a 1.1% salary increment instead of 4%.

Dr Kasonde said Government was disappointed with nurses’ action which showed lack of appreciation for the efforts that Government had continued to implement to improve their working conditions.

He said Government had increased salaries for nurses between 2010 and 2013 by about 87%.This brought the lowest paid nurse to K4, 426 from K2,360 as gross.

President Sata attacks UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema for his visit to UTH

President Michael Sata
President Michael Sata

President Sata has described UPND leaders visit to UTH yesterday as cruel and self centred. He advised Mr.Hichilema to stop acting like a Merchant of death and scorned him for supporting the strike action.

Yesterday UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema toured UTH to assess the situation at the Hospital. Mr. Hichilema appealed to government to pay the nurses the salary they promised them and clean up all the distortions in the new salary arrangements. The UPND leader went on to write a letter to the President in which he urged President Sata to urgently intervene in the matter by committing to rewarding the nurses and midwives according his government’s earlier promise.

Mr. Hichilema said that government officials got their 100 percent increment and were paid on time and it is morally right that government does the same for the nurses and midwives.Mr. Hichilema said it is the constitutional right of the nurses to express themselves in the manner they have done and that no one should use brutality or charge them.

However President Sata has describe Mr.Hichilema as self centred with no regard for relatives and friends of those suffering as a result of the strike.

LUSAKA, Thursday, October 10, 2013 – His Excellency, Mr Michael Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia, has advised UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to desist from acting like a ‘Merchant of Death’.

The President’s remarks comes in the wake of Mr. Hichilema’s recent visit to the University Teaching Hospital [UTH] where he went to incite the striking nurses, pharmacists and midwives not to return for work.

But President Sata said it is unfortunate that the UPND leader has embarked on a ‘cruel and self-centred’ mission of encouraging striking health workers without scruple or regard for innocent people’s lives.

The Head of State wondered how Mr. Hichilema expects the Zambian people particularly the relatives and friends of those suffering as a result of the strike to vote for him, if he is in the forefront of cheering the striking workers.

“Mr. Hichilema’s cheap attempt to gain political mileage from strikes when multitudes of our people’s lives are at stake is not only regrettable but callous. This level of self-centredness and desperation should be avoided by leaders especially those seeking public office,” President Sata said.

President Sata urged the striking nurses, pharmacists and midwives to resume work immediately stating that the Government was handling their matter competently.

Nawakwi predicts reduced infrastructure investment in 2014 budget

Nawakwi
Nawakwi

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has projected reduced investment towards infrastructure by government because more money will be channeled to cover for the leakages in the 2013 National Budget.

Ms Nawakwi says the 2013 National Budget was blown up in the first quarter because of the unbudgeted for expenditure by government.

Speaking to QFM News in an interview, Ms Nawakwi said the Patriotic Front Government exceeded expenditure in the 2013 national budget and will therefore try by all means to cover up the gaps created as a result.

Ms Nawakwi, who is a former Finance Minister, said it is evident that the road projects government has embarked on such as the Link Zambia 8000 and Pave Zambia 2000 were not budgeted for in the 2013 National Budget.

She added that most people are expecting Finance Minister, Alexander Chikwanda as he presents the 2014 National Budget this Friday to tell the nation how government will avoid the crisis which they created this year.

Confusion in fertiliser supply may lead to reduced maize production and higher mealie meal prices

14

A farmer in Jiwundu Settlement Scheme in Solwezi district

Total confusion in the fertiliser supply in 2013/2014 farming season

No show of fertiliser as planting season rapidly approaches

While private suppliers have already bought and distributed fertiliser to the districts across the country, the government has for the first time sourced a loan from Stanbic Bank to buy fertiliser from Saudi Arabia which is now stuck in Tanzania’s port of Dar es Salam. The PF government has bought the fertiliser under very unclear circumstances and there are fears of massive corruption in the purchase transport and distribution of the stocks.

With the planting season only a few weeks away, the government has asked farmers to wait for the fertiliser sourced from Saudi Arabia. The ship bringing the first 25,000 metric tonnes has just docked in Tanzania and will take a number of weeks to be offloaded and even more weeks to be transported to Zambia by rail before it is finally redistributed by trucks around the country.

Was buying from Saudi Arabia really cheaper?

While the government is claiming that the fertiliser imported from Saudi Arabia is cheaper than locally sourced one, the overhead costs such as freight and handling push the total cost higher than the local quotes.Government is yet to explain to the general public what the cost implications of importing the fertilizer from Saudi Arabia are. With the Christmas season around the corner it is important to note that transport service prices, especially out of the ports have increased and are likely to stay exorbitantly high until the coming year. What saving is government making by importing the fertilizer so late in the year?

Will this turn out to be the worst scandal adversely affecting next marketing season?

It is not known when the next shipment of the last 25,000 metric tonnes would arrive in the country to be distributed together with top dressing that has been manufactured by Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia.
The deal in which Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) of Saudi Arabia has been contracted to supply fertiliser by the PF government could turn out to be the country’s worst corruption scandal with the potential to adversely affect the next marketing season.

The delayed importation of 50,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser from Saudi Arabia, part of the consignment which is now marooned in Dar es Salam, would most likely delay the distribution of the input to farmers under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

In March this year, the government announced that it had introduced new measures of accessing farm inputs which should have seen 25,000 metric tonnes distributed through the E-Voucher system. The minister of Agriculture through various dialogue had categorically stated that by October 2013 the government would ensure that all the farming inputs under the FISP program as well as the e voucher program would be positioned in all the districts before the onset of the rains. The suspension of this system has left farmers very vulnerable.

The Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) was then contracted to produce 70,000 metric tonnes of D-Compound also known as basal dressing while 50,000 metric tonnes of Urea was to be sourced from the most unlikely country, Saudi Arabia.

The importation of fertiliser from Saudi Arabia, the first time ever, has raised a lot of concerns because the private companies which should have brought in 50,000 metric tonnes of Urea had their plans shattered after the government decided to directly engage itself in the deal.

In March this year, Luxon Kazabu announced a tender for the importation of Urea fertiliser and 17 companies, local and international, bid for the tender but it was cancelled by the late information and broadcasting services minister Kennedy Sakeni for unknown reasons.

With the fertilizer being a product of the nation why hasn’t government publicly put out tenders for local transport suppliers to participate in the uplift of the commodity out of Dar-e-salaam into Zambia?

Soon after the cancellation of the tender, a special committee comprising permanent secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Secretary to the Treasury some members from the Ministry of Commerce as well as officers from the Office of the President-Special Division was constituted to oversee the importation of the fertiliser.
The special team was then sent to Saud Arabia to go look at the conditions and in July the team came back as they could not sign the Urea fertiliser deal because the company from which the commodity was being sourced was demanding upfront payment.

Panic at the last minute

The government has applied for express clearance of the stocks and the High Commissioner in Tanzania Judith Kapijimpanga was to make sure that the Tanzanian Revenue Authority had a waiver on the special clearance of the fertiliser stocks.Kapijimpanga has since written to the Tanzanian Port Authority seeking express and special clearance but the challenge the government is facing is how to transport the stocks as the Zambia Railways has given conditions that the government has failed to meet.

Farmers are demanding answers because as a country after experiencing 4 consecutive bumper harvests they feel we cannot afford to be a maize importer when we were a net exporter of maize in the region.

‘ We as the general public cannot sit back and watch the agriculture sector we worked hard and long to build as a nation go to waste,’one farmer said.

Kambwili appeals to mines to help councils in fighting fires

MINISTER of Sport, Youth and Child Development Chishimba Kambwili
MINISTER of Sport, Youth and Child Development Chishimba Kambwili

MINISTER of Youth, Sport and Child Development Chishimba Kambwili has appealed to the mines in Luanshya to assist the council in emergency situations such as fires.

Mr Kambwili who is also Roan Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament said this during the week after touring the shops that were gutted in Luanshya on Friday last week.

“And I want to appeal to the mines that please when there is a fire, don’t say that that is the councils area, In the case of an emergency, there is no mines, there no council, they all fire brigade and they should rush and save life and property,” he said.

The Minister was reacting to the reactive manner in which the mines in the Copperbelt town where six shops at Theo’s Complex caught fire but it took him to call them before they could send fire fighters.

Mr Kambwili said Government was extremely saddened by the loss of property and more especially the loss of infrastructure.

He said Government was distressed because the fire left over 40 people unemployed when it is fighting to create employment in the country.

Mr Kambwili demanded a report from the town clerk on what happened to the fire truck because of the disturbing reports he received about why the truck was unavailable to quench the fire.

He ordered for disciplinary action to be taken if any of the firemen were found wanting.

He has since directed the town clerk and the district commissioner to get ZESCO and if possible an independent structural engineer or electrical consultant to conduct investigations and assess what could have caused the fire.

A FORMER Patriotic Front (PF) official in Lusaka has supported Mandevu Member of Parliament (MP) Kean Kapata in calling for disciplinary action against PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba for allegedly forming parallel structures and bringing the name of the party into disrepute.

Wellington Musonda who is former PF Lusaka District, information and publicity secretary accused Mr Kabimba of allegedly being behind the formation of parallel structures in the party to gain support to succeed President Michael Sata.

He said Mr Kabimba’s orchestrated structures had sparked confusion in the party. He backed calls to discipline Mr Kabimba over his alleged misconduct in the recent past weeks.

Mr Musonda said Ms Kapata was right to voice concerns and call for action against Mr Kabimba.

“Hon Jean Kapata is very right for her to demand that Wynter Kabimba be disciplined,” he said in a statement in Lusaka yesterday.

Ms Kapata who is also member of the party Central Committee had so far written two letters demanding disciplinary action against Mr Kabimba. Mr Musonda said the PF Secretary General should face disciplinary action over allegations of forming the parallel structures.

“Mr Kabimba is a Cabinet Minister and on oath who is supposed to keep oath on all the issues. He is accusing his fellow ministers to be corrupt just because he is in problems with the majority party members,” he said.

He said Mr Kabimba was on record having accused his fellow Ministers and some members of the PF of being tribal because of differences on party matters.

He said Mr Kabimba, who is Justice Minister, also accused of Defence Minister, Geoffrey Mwamba of plans to take over the presidency from President Michael Sata.

He said the sentiments had caused tension in the party and that members were now fighting among each other.

“Today Mr Kabimba has turned on Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Mwamba. Fighting Mr Mwamba for what? Mr Kabimba now has more enemies, than friends,” he said.

He appealed to PF Central Committee Disciplinary chairperson, Edgar Lungu who is Home Affairs Minister to take action on Mr Kabimba.

UTH nurses refuse to meet the Minister of Health

MINISTER of Health Dr. Joseph Kasonde gives his speech during the Zambia and Zimbabwe (ZamZim) joint World malaria day commemoration at Mukuni Park in Livingstone
MINISTER of Health Dr. Joseph Kasonde

Nurses at the University Teaching Hospital yesterday refused to meet Health Minister Joseph Kasonde to discuss their grievances. Addressing journalists after he toured the Intensive Care Unit, Ward
E11 and the main pharmacy yesterday, Dr Kasonde said that he was not pleased by the action of nurses not to show up at the organised meeting.

“I am not pleased with the nurses. I have followed them all the way so that we can discuss and find a solution, then they do not want to come to the room we have arranged to meet them.”

“We want 100 per cent work here so that we can deliver to our citizens,” he said.

Dr Kasonde, who was accompanied by Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Mwansa Kapeya, assured the striking nurses and other staff that Government would make corrections on the anomalies detected in the recently improved conditions of service for public service workers in which nurses claim that they were given less than what was expected.

He said the health workers would receive their correct salaries this month end. He urged the nurses to state the problem and find solutions before downing tools as they played a critical role in the health delivery system.

He said Government had held talks with relevant authorities over the matter and that the situation was taken care of.

He said Government would continue to respect the law and care for patients and was pleased that situation was slowly normalising.

Mr Kapeya who is Chief Government Spokesperson said Education, Defence and Health were cardinal sectors that did not require any labour stoppage.

He was pleased with some health workers who had realised the importance of their profession by going back to work.

THE ANTI –Corruption Commission (ACC) has denied writing a report to Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Stanford Msichili on the findings of the investigations into alleged corrupt practices by suspend provincial police commissioner Mary Tembo.

ACC Corporate Affairs Officer Jonathan Siame said in a press statement yesterday that the commission however stated that investigations into allegations of corruption against the Ms Tembo have been concluded.

He said the story which appeared in the Post Newspaper yesterday under the headlined ‘ACC Wants Mary Tembo Arrested” was untrue and a complete fabrication.

The story alleged that the Commission on the Copperbelt submitted a report to Mr Musichili saying the evidence against suspended Ms Tembo was overwhelming and that she should be arrested.

PRESS STATEMENT

INVESTIGATIONS INVOLVING MARY TEMBO

The Post Newspaper dated Wednesday 9th October 2013 carried a story on page 4 headlined, “ACC Wants Mary Tembo Arrested”. The story alleged that the Commission on the Copperbelt submitted a report to Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Stanford Musichili saying the evidence against suspended Police Copperbelt Commissioner Mary Tembo was overwhelming and that she should be arrested.

The Commission wishes to state that at no time did it write a report to the Copperbelt Permanent Secretary or any other party regarding the findings of investigations into alleged corrupt practices by Ms. Tembo.

The Story appearing in the Post is therefore untrue and a complete fabrication. It lacks merit both in content and fact.

The Commission however wishes to state that investigations into allegations of corruption against the Copperbelt Police Chief Mary Tembo have been concluded. Subsequently, a warn-and-caution statement has been recorded from Ms. Tembo and the matter is currently under legal consideration to determine the way forward.

Patrice Beaumelle has spoken for the first time ahead of his first match in charge.

Beaumelle’s has a dream start to his tenure as Zambia coach on Tuesday when he faces 2014 World Cup hosts Brazil in a friendly in Beijing.

“It is an important match for the players and it will show that we’re skillful, a good team and deserve to be these big matches,” Beaumelle said.

Meanwhile, Nkana defender Christopher Munthali was not part of the home-based players who left from KK International Airport in Lusaka this evening for Beijing via Dubai.

Officials were tight lipped over his omission.

Also absent from the travelling party was TP Mazembe defender Hichani Himonde who was not on the list of players the DR Congo club was holding back.

However, the six players who left from Lusaka include Romanian based striker Fwayo Tembo who has dumped Astra Giurgiu and returned to Zambia following his fallout with the club.

Midfielders Bruce Musakanya from Red Arrows and Kondwani Mtonga of Zesco United including goalkeeper Joshua Titima are in the travelling party.

Others are Kabaso Chongo and Bronson Chama from Konkola Mine Police and Arrows respectively.

Open letter to President Michael Sata

99
President Michael Sata
President Michael Sata

Dear President Sata

I wonder if you realise how much time Zambians spend trying to work out what exactly is up in your administration. I mean, you have quite managed to confuse the nation’s collective mind hey.

Take this “no press conference” philosophy you seem to have adopted –what on earth is that about? Have you really decided “I will not speak to them unless I find someone to swear in??” Yaku mayo bashikulu bantu, emo mwapandila? Pantu aba bemba nabo kubwanga ba pena.

Seriously though, that telling off you gave your ministers about not setting out your governments accomplishments, I think you need to take that advice to heart yourself. Heck, there are some things your government is doing very well- however thumb sucked your plans may seem. Take the roads for example – that’s big! I must say though that I don’t understand why whoever decides these things would dig up the Ndola Kitwe dual carriage way when it was not so bad. I would have understood if it was being developed into a 6 lane road but no. A friend of mine thinks it’s all about a big cut into someone’s pocket but that’s not what I am on about today.

[pullquote]Have you really decided “I will not speak to them unless I find someone to swear in??”[/pullquote]

What I am trying to say is if you were to pull off even half the link Zambia 8000 or pave 2000 and that other one you have for Lusaka whose name I don’t know, you would have changed the face of Zambia forever. But hey do we ever hear about that – of course not!!

On what medium would we hear about real governance issues if every newspaper and bulletin is headlined by yet another foolish PF fight of thuggish proportions?

Now President Sata, please tell me, how have you allowed that? Why is it you can’t use your ex-cathedra voice (you are Catholic so you understand that) to announce that there shall be no more of this gangster politics that makes your government seem decidedly anarchical forget dangerous to the peace and stability Zambians so treasure.

You seem to have decided that you will allow the nation to conclude, for good reason, that you are the most not-in-control president we have ever had.

[pullquote]You seem to have decided that you will allow the nation to conclude, for good reason, that you are the most not-in-control president we have ever had.[/pullquote]

Again one wonders why? Why do you refuse to take up your presidency and control of your own destiny? As things stand, I can tell you for nothing that if an election were held tomorrow, you would lose big time unless you rigged to Olympic proportions. Now we all know that, ruling party or not, rigging will be that much harder for you given how, in the incorrigible ways of your administration, your men and women have managed to absolutely incense the electoral body. (I won’t lie, the observing nation is very happy to have an ECZ that finally shows some independence.)

The point though is that you and your PF would, barring a miracle, lose an election right now. So if you want 2016, you better start doing something different. The mind boggling thing is you, Mr Sata, would lose largely because of what people around you get up to. Well of course there is that habit of yours of saying shocking things but, heck, you were elected doing just that. So the country’s frustration with you is very much about your willingness to run a government that seems to be doing everything to allow the country to fall apart at the seams. Simply, you, Sir, have left us at the mercy of so many people who think they are alternate or in-waiting presidents all of them who care nothing about the country.

[pullquote]And you – for weeks you sit quietly while every annoying headline is about that personal quest for power by a few men -why?? Why allow such a sense of instability in the country?[/pullquote]

All your surrogates do all day and every day is holding the country at ransom to their unapologetically selfish interests. And you – for weeks you sit quietly while every annoying headline is about that personal quest for power by a few men -why?? Why allow such a sense of instability in the country? When will services be delivered, good God?

As for the PF thugs who call themselves cadres being allowed to, at will, march through our streets attacking people as they carry out the bidding of whoever happens to be highest bidder that week – how do you explain that? Party politics playing out in our streets and you make non-committal noises that allow them to continue – come on President Sata! Who will stand up for ordinary citizens that have to stomach the nonsense while living in fear of inadvertently getting caught up in a warzone while simply getting on with their lives?

Anyhow let me end by setting you a task –how about trying to win 2016 fair and square? You could win it I promise you, if you proved that you were better than the opposition waiting in the wings. Better for Zambia I mean, not for PF, your family or your hangers on. You have 3 years to win back the belief of the majority Zambians whose only desire from a president is a better Zambia. You CAN win if you give us something to remember your presidency by – something other than the anarchy playing out before our eyes that is.

Ok enough now. As ever, I wish you the very best!

PF youths apologise for the protests

21

Patriotic Front (PF) Youths in Lusaka have apologized to the people of Zambia for the disturbance caused by their protests against the removal of party Secretary General Wynter Kabimba.

PF Lusaka Provincial Youth Representative, Albert Mulenga, has told QFM News in a walk-in-interview that the PF youths have realized that their protests disturbed the country’s peace hence the apology.

Mr. Mulenga notes that business came to a standstill because of the anti-Kabimba protests by the youth.

And Mr. Mulenga has praised President Michael Sata for coming out in the open to stop the squabbles that have rocked the ruling party.

He notes that the move will help the party members to mobilize following the guidance given by the President on how to handle the matter.
