Defending champions Zambia will face Mozambique in the semifinals of this year’s Cosafa Castle Cup in a penultimate stage doubleheader to be played at Germiston stadium in Johannesburg on September 29.

South Africa will face Botswana in the other semifinals with the winners advancing to the final to be played on October 27.

The semifinal draws were made today in Johannesburg but the tournament organizers have yet to decide on the finals venue.

It will be the sixth time Zambia will be playing Mozambique in the Cosafa Castle Cup in which the latter has yet to beat the former.

South Africa on the other hand takes on Botswana for a fifth time in the same tournament and The Zebras will be hoping to record a second successive win over Bafana Bafana.

Botswana beat South Africa 6-5 on post-match penalties in last years Group B mini-tournament final played in Gaborone on May 21 following a scoreless draw before losing 1-0 in the final to eventual champions Zambia on August 19 in Lusaka.

  1. Let’s not get too excited that Zambia will be playing Mozambique again because football in the region has changed a lot and if I was FAZ I would thinking of coming up with good team and try use a lot of talented players now. Its true in the past Mozambique hasn’t been of the competition but they wouldn’t want to lose again. So FAZ the time to act is now if you want Zambia to return the COSAFA cup.

  2. Paltry K1 million each for Barclays Cup last 16 irks Mining Rangers
    By Sports Reporter

BARCLAYS Bank and FAZ have given only K1 million to each of the 16 clubs playing the first round of the inaugural Barclays Cup, eliciting complaints from the participating clubs.
The money is meant to cater for transport costs for all clubs in the more than K5 billion-rich competition.
KCM-FAZ Division-Two North league leaders, Mining Rangers of Kitwe, have complained against the decision and asked the FAZ and Barclays Bank to revisit the mode.
In appealing for an upward adjustment to the figure, Mining Rangers boss, Elijah Chileshe, yesterday said that K1 million was not enough for his side to travel to Lusaka and back considering they have to spend a night in the Capital City.
Chileshe appealed to FAZ and the bank to revisit the figure saying it defeated the whole purpose of taking part in the competition.
FAZ acting general secretary, Fedelis Banda, could not be reached for a comment.
“We want to play in this competition, but K1 million is far from little. Instead of providing transport, they could have provided accommodation, we would find our own transport,” he said.
FAZ and Barclays Bank unveiled the Barclays Cup in which the bank had pumped K5.2 billion.
Chileshe complained that the FAZ knew better about this problem and should have tackled it when they were drawing up the competition.
He added that clubs did not know about the Cup and did not budget for it, unlike the Mosi and Coca-Cola cups competitions.
Chileshe said it is not fair that his club, which would be travelling from Kitwe to Lusaka, should be receiving the same amount as teams playing in their home towns like Lusaka Dynamos.
Mining Rangers has been drawn against Lusaka Dynamos on September 1 at Woodlands stadium in the round of 16 and play at 12:30 hours.
The complaint tallies with that raised by the Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association who said the prize money given to the clubs was too little compared to the amount pumped in the competition.
Barclays Bank, after announcing it had set aside K5.2 billion, said it would only give K190 million in cash prizes to the clubs.
The fans on the Copperbelt complained that the proportion of money disbursement was not fair and called on FAZ to start giving clubs priority in such competitions instead of spending a lot of money into running expenses.

  3. The last time I contributed on the new Barclay Bank sponsored competition, I agrued on the need to revisit the prize money so as it is meaningful and profitable for participating teams. A certain Man Choto condemned me and unfortunately brought in my private life. Today’s story in the Times of Zambia, pasted in #5 vindicates my concerns. Acccording to Mining Ranger of Kitwe (this should be another of the new teams that I did not know of) the K1m to be given to clubs falls far short of the camping requirements. I wish clubs can come up with how much it takes to prepare and camp a team for a league/cup game for the sponsors and FAZ to understand their concerns.

  4. Devilish Nkana eject Warriors
    By VICTOR KUMWENDA

    WARRIORS 0 NKANA 1
LOVE them or loathe them, Nkana are back with a bang! Yesterday, the Division One team demonstrated that they are ready for the big stage when they edged Kabwe Warriors at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola to cruise to the quarter-finals of the Barclays Cup.

Congolese-born striker Patrick Kabamba scored the vital goal six minutes into the game when he beat Warriors’ goalkeeper Kelvin Musonda with a classic header from a Levy Zulu cross.

Nkana dominated the game although Warriors also had a fair share of command but goalkeeper Kelvin Mulenga thwarted their plans with his extra-ordinary reflexes.

Mulenga was called into action a minute before the break when he used his legs to block Musonda Mweuka’s ferocious shot.

Earlier Kapiri Mposhi referee Janny Sikazwe ruled Mweuka’s goal offside.

    BLADES 1 RANGERS 0
Playing at the same venue, Konkola Blades were unimpressive although they edged Division Two (Midlands) Freedom Range

  5. it good that nkana is showing them that they are still badnews watchout as they come back to prem league nkana supporter for life.

  6. Davy Chile was right. The Nkana – Warriors fixture was meant to separate MEN (NKANA) from boys (warriors). What a marvellous analogy. I bet Davy Chile and his cohort now know that Nkana ileisa!

  7. Chansoni sana twaluza.Awe mwa bomba epa shili pa kuleka.Lelo nga nimwe mwa luzile nga kwali inkondo yeka yeka.We accept the defeat.

  8. #16.Davy Chile
The only make noise when FAZ and the Referees frustrate our game. Otherwise we are very peacefull!!
    Viva Kalampa!!!
