Unknown people rape woman in Kawambwa

Share

A 24-year old woman in Kawambwa is laying unconscious in the district hospital after she was allegedly attacked and raped.

A source at Kawambwa police station and a hospital medical officer, Chota Chishimba confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Kawambwa yesterday.

The police source and Dr. Chishimba named the woman as Cecilia Musonda of Chikobe village in sub-chief Kabanda in chief Mushota’s area.

Dr. Chishimba has described the condition of Mrs. Musonda as stable.

The anonymous police source said the woman is suspected to have been raped because there were some marks of struggle at a scene.

Emeldah Chabala, 40, who is a mother in-law to the victim, explained to ZANIS that the incident happened on Monday afternoon when the woman went to harvest cassava.

Mrs. Chabala said Mrs. Musonda told her husband, John Chileshe 31, of the same village that she had gone to get cassava tubers from their field while he (Chileshe) went to work at his friend’s field called “iciima”, a system where three or more people come together and help one another in cultivating.

Mrs. Chabala explained that when, her son, Chileshe returned home, he did not find his wife and asked his children if their mother had come back from the cassava field.

She said upon learning that his wife was still away, Chileshe became worried mobilized his fellow villagers to go and look for Musonda in the cassava field.

Mrs. Chabala said the victim was found lying unconscious in the grass with her underwear tied around her mouth.

She said Mrs. Musonda also had bruises on her head and neck and a cut on the right ear.

And a check by ZANIS at the hospital’s female ward yesterday revealed that Mrs. Musonda could neither talk nor eat.

Luapula Province Police commanding officer, Auxensio Mbewe could not be reached for a comment.

Police in the area have since arrested Martin Mwape 29 to assist with investigations in connection to the matter.

  1. But how does this Chileshe also send his spouse to get cassava alone from the field while he himself goes in a group of three or more people??? Wamona nomba your wife has now been jammed down brutally.

  2. Ba Nine Chale, I wish you could look at this situation with “village eyes”. The system of “iciima” is so common, and the arrangement that the wife goes to get cassava alone while the husband goes to work somewhere else has been a normal practice. The only strange and bad thing is that the villages are also no longer safe places, the situation even some of the villagers (like the husband to the victim) have not yet realised. Too bad!!!!!

  3. This MMD raping women in the country now please let us protect them by all means, RB is training these chaps in the bush to start this evil thing very sad state of affairs.

  4. Let the death penalty be instituted for all rapists that shall be found guilty period. After that it all shall end.

  5. My prayers for this hard working young lady and her hard working young husband, people earning their living, unlike some destitutes in the cities that only want to be fed by the brothers while they beat their sisters in law. You guys probably sense the anger in my posts today, it is because I am feeling that our spines as men in Zambia are weakening; look at hour jubilant people are when a foreign profit earner known as investor arrives. Let’s work hard, protect our women and nation.

  6. Let’s pray for her as a people and diasporans, if at all there was a way I would send this family some money and a bible plus a pastor, ladies of prayer and a trained praying woman’s councellor to assist them. In Jesus name I ask God to comfort and heal this young lady.

  7. Could she have been mistaken for an opposition political leader? The police should check on the MMD youth activists in the area first. Thety are the firs suspects. BUT on a serious note, this should show our leaders not to play with words. I am disappointed that the President did not condem those threatening such violence against Ms Nawakwi. I am sad when the President is insulted, but there is no justification for the evil that the MMD youth chairman threatened. It is just not on!

  8. Where is Victim support unit in Zambia Police? “The police source and Dr. Chishimba named the woman as …of Chikobe village in sub-chief Kabanda in chief Mushota’s area.” This is totally unacceptable! A rape victim should NEVER be publicly identified and revealed to the public. What for? When is Zambia Police going to modernise? This police service is still a ‘force’ and using jurassic age policing methods! No wonder the IG thinks that threatening violence is not a crime! Even Dr Chishimba should also be ashamed of himself. He should be reported to the Medical Council of Zambia for breaching patient confidentiality.

  9. Bane ine napapa. Are we saying Zambian police are trained? It can’t be because they are acting like villagers. Let me teach you something which you didnt learn at Lilayi “In a civilized community, we don’t name the rape victims” Kusebanya umuntu uku and if I were the husband, I can sue you for this. Tolanobwapona .

  10. Why should an unnamed source name the victim. Don’t these ***** officers know that preservation in one dignity is all the poor woman ha left? What dose it help to withhold your name as an officer of the law but name the victim who has not consent to the publicity. Policing in Zambia is still in the stone age ahhhhgggg
