Former church of god overseer Bishop John Mambo has called on government to avoid being lenient on calls to legalize homosexuality in Zambia.
Bishop Mambo said that Zambia is a Christian nation stating that Christianity does not tolerate same sex relations.
He said that in the church there is no human rights because when one commits sin is sin.
Bishop Mambo said the calls to legalize homosexuality are not new and that government should not be seen to accept such taboo.
He told QFM that it is also not a Zambian culture to allow Zambians to engage in same sex relations.
The Bishop noted that if that is allowed, Zambia might be destroyed in its cultural beliefs.
He added that it was unfortunate that some people were championing gay activities but expressed confidence that no one would openly support homosexual activities.
Last month, some political parties have said they cannot support and champion the legalization of homosexuality in Zambia because the practice is unChristian and alien to the nation.
The MMD and United Party for National Development (UPND) said separately that Zambia was declared a Christian nation and the issue of homosexuality had no room in this society.
But the Patriotic Front (PF) said it had not dealt with the matter because it was concentrating on more important issues.

It is about time that Zambians became honest with themselves. Homosexuality and homosexual acts have always occured in Zambia. You cannot urgue therefore, that it is unZambian. Going to boarding school in the 70’s young boys and girls were ‘adopted’ by an older male/female, with whom they often slept. You are correct in saying that we should not ‘let anyone do anthing anytime they feel like doing’. If marriage is for procreation, then why should people who cannot reproduce get married? Why should we use contraception? The reality is that there is a sexual element, which people enjoy. One can argue that intimacy that people have in a loving relationship is the more important than procreation. I would like to pose a question.Should Goverment make laws based on religious views? Mambo said ” homesexuality is sin” we need to stop it. You know what else is sin? Masterbating, fornication (sex before marriage), getting drunk etc. So, should Government ban these sins according to christianity? people who are gay did not just one day wake up and choose to be gay just like straight people never chose to be straight, it is a call of nature.
Ideas that are intolerant of others have given us people like Bin Laden and i dont want Zambia to go into that direction. If two consenting adults want to have a relationship and they happen to be of the same sex, it is none of your business! let freedon reign!
