NAMWALA Member of Parliament Robbie Chizhyuka has advised the United Party for National Development (UPND) leaders to reconsider their pact with the Patriotic Front (PF) in view of the confusion that has characterised the agreement.
But UPND secretary general, Winstone Chibwe has said the opposition party made wide consultations and has resolved to remain in the pact with the PF.
Major Chizhyuka said yesterday that UPND should reconsider its alignment for the party to have any value in the political process and leadership of the country.
He said had UPND president Hakainde Hichilema consulted before forging the pact with the PF, he would have got tangible and meaningful advice based on the political philosophy of the majority grassroots.
He was commenting on the recent confusion that has arisen in the pact over the adoption of candidates for the Chadiza and Kaoma local government by-elections.
Major Chizhyuka said the decision by the UPND to enter into a pact with the PF was a sole idea of Mr Hichilema that was anchored purely on his personal business interest and profit motive.

“They should realign their tactics and strategies for 2011 and 2016. The pact arrangement with the PF will only hurt the UPND from what has surfaced now.
“What is happening is testimony that Mr Hichilema rushed into this pact arrangement for his personal benefits and never widely consulted ,” he said.
Maj Chizhyuka said the UPND leader had learnt a lesson too soon “that lies in politics can come round and haunt the propagators of such lies.”
Mr Hichilema told the UPND top officials that the party would participate in Western, Southern, North-Western and Central provinces where the party was stronger than the PF, and that the PF would contest on the Copperbelt, Luapula, Lusaka and Northern provinces that were stronghold areas for the PF.
“The only province subject to discussion was Eastern Province at the time,” he said.
It was a slap in Mr Hichilema’s face for the PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba to say that it had never been the understanding of the PF that getting into the pact with the UPND would mean dividing the country on regional basis.
“Further, for him (PF secretary general Kabimba) to suggest that it has never been their understanding that their participation in the pact will be limited to certain areas in the country to the exclusion of other areas is a hard slap on Mr Hichilema’s immature political face,” he said.
Major Chizhyuka said it was clear from Mr Kabimba’s statement that PF would field in any constituency and ward, including the strongholds of UPND, in areas like Livingstone, Mazabuka and Choma.

Mr Hichilema should not cry foul now because he asked for what was now happening, and that the Electoral Commission of Zambia had no hand in the problems that had beset the PF/UPND Pact.

In a separate interview yesterday, Mr Chibwe parried the allegations by the Namwala MP, saying the party had consulted widely before entering into the pact with the PF. He said the party had made a decision to continue in the pact.

If a man and his wife have never had any differences, then they have been cheating each other. Quarrels and differences are a healthy sign, because this means, that the individuals concerned are not acting like robots. Just look at the MMD- they always follow the wind- today Mwanawasa introduces wind tax for the mines they go with it and will defend it with their lives. Tommorow RB critises the same tax they go with and are ready to defend the decision with their lives. This is not the way to live. People must beable to express their opinion freely.

UPND used to be a party with a structure and direction. Unfortunately for UPND, Mr. Hichilema lost direction and started adopting the characteristics of PF.
He somewhat made the UPND his personal party that cannot function without him holding all the cards, he adopted the language of a PF cadre by competing with his pact partner on who can insult the govt and its officials the most. He also lost vision but only had one goal and that was to remove the MMD from power without articulating what he plans to do for his nation. These are all characteristics of PF.
The PF is power hungry, they are inconsistent, they are violent, they defame the govt and its officials on a daily basis, they have no development agenda for the nation.

Life is long, very long. Major, if it is the case that HH formed a Pact without UPND consent, it does not bode well for UPND & HH. It is a terrible practice. The party should always be bigger than a man. However UPND if it sticks to its principles has a bright future ahead of them. Senior Citizen, MMD Boot L & MMD realise this. MMD is fighting 2 battles, short term PF (2011) however long term UPND (2011 & beyond).

This country’s opposition parties are irrelevantly centered around an individuals misleading them and present nothing of common value other than fueling tribalism, hatred, lies and passion for plunder what the ballot has denied them accessing since they started panting for power but in vein. Its not a problem to have frictions in the PACT. If you think of it, its personal friction and not PACT friction. People want very much to be in gonvernment so they steal , hence their desire to file nomination papers even if they are not suctioned by the PACT. The other reason is that of infiltration from the MMD into the PACT. The PACT has to know that the MMD is 100% threaten and is working day in and out to destroy the PACT. UPND should not listen to useless people like Chzuka. Let them know that they are there not always to be out side gonvt elections after elections. They should aim at being in cabinet making policies. If the UPND withdraws from the PACT, is it going to MMD or it will go alone and continue winning Southern province and never form gonvernment in any near future?

HH is very intelligent and focust. If Chizyuka thought he could run upnd why didn’t he contest the presidency. Those who are saying HH made a decision to go into a pact a lone, I will not blame you but to say shame on you for not understanding the structure of UPND but you decise to listen to hear say which is common in Zambia. UPND is a very organised party and every member has a role to play in the party. The problem we have in zambia is that even those who are a bit educated cannot even make a step to read and understand, but depend on hearsay. For them to go into a pact they had to conduct a secret ballot election where those who were in favour of the pact won. Those who were against lost and they were just 3 and one of them was Chuzyuka though the other two accepted defeat.

People should understand Chizyuka’s background that he is from the Military where a leader has to dictate everything. HH is from the business world where you have to negotiate to agree on something and principle in business is do not destroy relationships because you may need that person tomorrow. The other nature of Chizyuka is that he hates Bembas, he can be speaking his ILA language even if no one understands it. HH and his friends like Jack Mwimbu(Legal affairs), David Matongo etc hate this regionalism taking place in Zambia where voting is according to tribe hence they went into a pact for a united Zambia where every region is embraced. HH is a man who looks at life to be a journey. The man is humble and intelligent thats why KK the man who took a step to know HH’s abilities and vision told us in 2006 that he is the best man for zambia and they day zambia will realise the nature of this by giving him power to rule the country, our living standards will improve and we will appreciate that we are being governed. The man respects the rule of law and he likes negotiating for unity all the time. As a country we need experience of success and not of failure, because many of these people we call experienced one have failed us before, hence why using failure to solve failure. These political engineers have failed us before and it does not make sense to bring them back to redeam our economy with their bulky failures.
One point we need to understand is if we manage to remove MMD then what next to ramain in poverty or the poverty to be worse than what it is now, because Sata and his Chiluba regime were the ones who destroyed our economy. What new things do we expect from Sata now that he is wearing another cloth called pf but still the same man. I would rather remain with the devil called RB than this animal called sata because my memory is not so short. Sata is worse that Mugabe hence he is the worste person zambia can ever have as a president. He did so many atrocities in zambia including theft but he never signed anywhere thats why he is free. Some people like Katele are today in prison because of Sata’s theft behaviour which fell on them( Katele is just a recepient of someone’s bad deeds).

It is true as well for the leaders and members of the PF-UPND pact who, finally, must take responsibility for the fate of the election alliance they themselves have chosen to forge among themselves. In the end, they will get the pact they deserve.
The problems they are facing in their pact today are self-created. But it would seem whatever problems they face, however self-created, will be blamed on others who are not even members of their pact or political parties.
The ruling MMD has every right to wage a political campaign to discredit the PF-UPND pact just as much as they do with individual opposition political parties and their leaders. This is a multi-party political dispensation where competition for power is allowed. And one way of doing that is to continue hammering at the weaknesses, real or potential, of your political opponents or competitors. And the MMD has been doing a very good job on this. They have mobilized opportunistic chiefs and all sorts of dubious characters to help them do this. They can only do so with opportunistic and dubious characters because this is all they have.They are simply utilizing the human resources available to them in the best way they can. And this pact will succeed or fail not because the MMD is despised
You guys who hate Sata are just wasting time. Sata as mad and useless as he is, the majority of the educated people in Lusaks and copperbelt vote for him? Why do they vote for Sata? Some pact leaders, especially those from the UPND, have even gone further to accuse The Post of trying to break the pact. How is this possible? Are their memories so short? Have they forgotten how much coverage The Post has given this pact to date? Have they forgotten how much platform the Press Freedom Committee of The Post has given this pact? Probably, this has made them think that The Post is part of their pact and should do everything to promote the pact. The Post is not part of the pact or for that matter part of any political party in this country. And for this reason, The Post is not bound by any agreement that political parties enter into among themselves.What is also surprising is how The Post, or even the MMD, can influence a process that is being driven by the top leadership

They have decided to back MCS but they want to build a strong case against HH. Pact is dead and now they have to figure out how best to explain to the kaponya’s in PF and the voters. RB will sail through come 2011 because Sata and HH will be bogged down in explaining the failure of the pact rather than setting out a vision, while RB will be busy selling his manifesto
Their disagreements over adoptions of candidates cannot have anything to do with The Post or even the MMD. It is simply an internal pact matter that is decided by a selected group of their best leaders. If The Post has so much influence that it can singlehandedly direct what these leaders should do, then the problem is not with The Post but the quality of leadership within the pact. It is not The Post that told them to field candidates in Kaoma Central or Chadiza in competition against each other. And The Post is nowhere near their negotiations to resolve these matters.
By trying to transfer responsibilities over these matters to The Post and other people, they are actually undermining themselves in the eyes of our people; they are simply telling us about how inadequate they are to run the pact, their own political parties and probably government after that. There is no way The Post can think for all the leaders of the pact and direct them on what to do. It is not the responsibility of The Post to build the pact or indeed to destroy it. That is the responsibility of its members. Moreover, The Post was not created to be public relations officers for the PF, UPND and their pact. Both the PF and the UPND are far much younger than The Post, they were founded many years after The Post was launched.
It seems the pact leadership wanted The Post to be covering up their inadequacies. The Post can’t do that. AMEN FINALLY FRED HAS SEEN THE LIGHT!!! GOD IS DEFINITELY IN CONTROL

RB is president up to 2016 if the pact is dead. then somebody else will take over. By then Sata will be dead.
