The United Party for National Development UPND has disclosed that the Pact is not yet ready to announce its presidential candidate for the general elections.
UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma says the Pact leadership will only announce the presidential candidate after the two parties agree on a number of issues to avoid confusion in the future.
Mr. Kakoma said it would be premature to announce the PF/UPND pact candidate before agreeing on the power sharing mechanism and the social and economic agendas of the two parties once in government.
In an interview with QFM Mr. Kakoma said that even if they announce the Pact presidential candidate at the last minute, it will not be hard to sell the candidate because both of them are already known to the public.
Mr. Kakoma however says the Pact is ready for the general elections regardless of when president Rupiah Banda will announce the date of the elections.
He has called on the Pact supporters not to be worried over the Pact leadership.

People the Decision for pact president has been made. The PACT is full of wise people. There is no point in announcing who the presidential candidate is for the pact before the consitutional amendment process is not yet complete and the date for election is not yet announced. The MMD is full of funny tricks. If we announce that it is Hakainde now, they will come up with a consitutional law that will stipulate that any candidate that has not had a political elected post cannot stand. If we say it is SATA they will say a person who has been investigated for an amount above $99,999.99 by DEC can’t be president. So dont worry about the president for the pact. They have already chosen a president they are just waiting for the MMD to be exhausted coming up with funny tactics!

Hon Charles Kakoma is a big joker. Lets not be hinding behind for unknown reasons. If the pact has failed its better to come out. I cannot dream to see 14th january,2011 because am informed the government is trying to settle with the BRE for an agreement that the meeting should take place 4 a period not more than 1 hour under the watchful eye.if this is true,then rupiah’s govt will be rendered useless after posting threats of ‘treason’ on would-be-attendants to the meeting whose significancy should not be shot at.
Using deductive logic now we know that PACT presidency will go to King Cobra or HH. The important thing for the electorate to understand is that voting should be based on the party of interest. It is either the PACT gets into power or MMD. How dificult is this to understand? If the constitution is properly structured, it should remove excessive power off any incumbent president so that decisions made are based on a collective agreement of the executive. We have to move away from this nonsense of leting one individual make decisions for the whole country. Decisions made must have the blessings of the electorate and executive members.

Good statement! What is important is how you are going to govern the country and not rushing to name the presidential candidate. If the Pact does not work out a governance framework, they will just be bickering once in power. My advice is that if the Pact does not agree on a governance framework they should go separate ways. It will be too damaging to party like UPND, which full of smart people to enter into a Pact without a governance framework. Good luck!

PF has forced the MMD to refund the K5 million donation received from the Food Reserve Agency during the ruling party’s fundraising dinner dance.

Guys remeber one thing, the strength of the PACT is also its greatest weakness. The announcement of the PACT President shall bring reactions that might favour the MMD. Why is the Vice President panicking? It clearly shows that the PACT is a factor. Our vice president has completely stopped serving the people of Zambia. Its high time Zambians asked him to step down.
