The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says it will continue with its delimitation process despite the constitution of Zambia bill failing to pass through the second reading in Parliament.

ECZ Public Relation Manager, Chris Akufuna says the ECZ will continue sitting as a delimitation commission to review constituency boundaries but will not effect an increase in the number of constituencies.

“Following the failure of the constitution of Zambia bill to go through the second reading in parliament as require by article 79 of the constitution, the electoral commission of Zambia wishes to inform the public that it will continue sitting as a delimitations commission to review constituency boundaries with effecting an increase in the number of constituencies,” he said.

He stated that the commission will also continue receiving submissions on the numbers of constituencies in the remaining districts in order to have a complete database for future use.

Mr. Akufuna said this in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

He explained that the delimitations sittings were made to collect information on how stakeholders wanted to have the number of constituencies increased from the current 150 to 225.

Mr. Akufuna said the programme for the delimitation sittings in the rest of the provinces still remain the same.

He has since advised the public to prepare their submissions in readiness for the sitting.

ECZ has so far sat in Lusaka, North Western, Copperbelt, and Central provinces.

  1. This does not make sense at all. The centre has fallen off and this fool thinks that he can still continue sitting as a delimitation commission to review constituency boundaries under a new constitution that has since collapsed in parliament, just how? The lawlessness at ECZ has reached lunatic levels, is this the type of order we should expect from the new chairman Kanishamezi appointed recently?

  2. He just wants allowances. In zambia, people(akufuna) who have nothing to do make too much noise to gain relevance.

  3. THESE FOOOOOOOOLS SHUD HAVE THE SENSE OF SHAME. WHY NOT TAKE THAT MONEY TO NEEDY AREAS. THIS AKUFUNA GUY REALLY SOUNDS LIKE AN MMD CADRE

  4. Money thieves. If these guys are upto something mpaka fye. The mps shot it down now ecz wants it. Zambian nigas for sure.

  5. How can ECZ return money which was “Budgeted” for by George Kunda? Akufuna and his friends have already bought cement for their houses, they need to finish those person houses they bought, where else can they get money from apart from their useless workshops?

  6. The Partisan constitution is dead! But leeches can’t stop milking the hard earned money from the hard working Zambians. This is the problem of too much Presidential meddling in government bodies which are supposed to operate independently without outside influence. For the constitution only, the money wasted could have helped thousands boys and girls roaming the streets after completing G12, if the money was used for scholarships into universities. This kind of waste of public money is too much, do you need Tunisia style to understand?

  7. Wake up opposition political parties, these are machinations to rig elections for MMD. Akufuna has the audacity to state they will continue something that is illegal & non-implementable with impunity because he knows that RB is behind him, since he’s the law. Oppositions work together & stop this nonsense, it’s full of rigging spices.

  8. How do they proceed with the delimitations sittings when the draft bill has been rejected? Chris has proved to be part of the circus!

  9. Dream on Akufuna, when the new government comes into power this year “wa longano mwa ndende wena.”

  10. Go a head akufuna, these MPs have over lived their usefulness. They just go to parliament to eat & get allowances but we want development

  11. they are just confussing me with their unwilling to follows loaws that they have put in place…. carefu bane

  12. Proper daylight thuggery. What these chaps are doing is very very f.oolish indeed. I just wonder where this takes us with limited resources. So we are now moving from 150 to 225 constituencies. This means more useless MPs scrounging on meagre resources. You can imagine huge allowances going to waste than it has never happened before. What a sick government to work with!

  13. Best thing is to take them to court right away because they are breaking the law. Where are our lawyers? If Zambia is a nation based on law, why is the law not being followed?

  14. SATA SHUD STORM ECZ….. RB IS NOT A SERIOUS PRESIDENT, HW DO U TOLERATE SUCH NONSENSE. SHAME BA MOVEMENT FOR MAD DOGS MMD

  15. Which comes first, delimitation or law? How was the 225 number of constituences arrived at b4 delimitation? We were suppose to have a piece of law first b4 the actual delimitation,is this practical. It was a case of coming up with the number of constituences that you want and then pretend to be delimiting. It was politial engineering at its best………………………………………..BAYI Kuyilejha

  16. # Ngombela. Dream on the utopia way in outer Mongolia. Whether you like it or not there will be no new government until 2016. Even then it will be a new government under MMD except that this time it will be commandeered by Felix Mutati. DONT KUFYONO

  17. # 14 and # 21 you are utopianist besides being anarchists. IT WONT SURPRISE ANYONE IF THE LUNATIC SATA WENT AHEAD AND STORMED ECZ. HOW MANY ‘STORMINGS’ HAS HE DONE WITHOUT ACHIEVING ANYTHING.

  18. Akafuna is one type of African technocrats who are misleading African Presidents like the way Gbogbo of Ivory Coast has been misled. Now Gbogbo will be in trouble and hot soup. He will appear before the International Criminal Court.

  19. RB stop this rubish. ECZ needs money to run a free and fair election this year and you are busy spending money on a dead issue. Let the other guys who will takeover from MMD handle the matter because the MMD agenda has been thrown through the window. Zambia is like Zimbabwe politically, said Mugabe just a few days ago as he flashed the fisf-PA BWATO in full view of RB and his cadres much to the amusement the welcoming party!

  20. All the guys at ECZ need to be jailed for this illegality, including the minister of justice under whom they fall.

  21. How the hell can you continue when delimitation was one of the main issues why the bill was shot down? Much money has been wasted already. Please Akufuna and your ECZ stop waisting our money further, you will also be answerable. What authority are you using?
