Lundazi farmers assured of FRA maize buying

Share

Vice President George Kunda has assured people of Lundazi district in Eastern Province that the Food Reserve Agency(FRA) will buy off all their maize in this year’s marketing season.

However, Mr. Kunda was quick to warn farmers against selling their
farm produce to unscrupulous buyers because they would lose out if
they did so.

ZANIS reports that he said Government was determined to purchase all
surplus maize from farmers at the recommended floor price of K65,000
per 50 kilogramme bag of maize in order to increase their economic
status.

Mr. Kunda was speaking yesterday when he addressed a public rally at
Kaunda Square in Lundazi district.

He said Government had always endeavoured to make the life of farmers
better by providing them with a readily available market.

He explained that the process of recovering money once farmers sold
their maize to briefcase buyers was long hence the need to avoid
them.

And the Vice President noted that the K3,700 per kilogramme of cotton
this year was a favourable price for cotton growers in the country.

Mr. Kunda said cotton was one of the major cash crops grown in Lundazi
district which could improve people’s lives.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kunda disclosed that fertiliser for this year’s farming
season had already arrived in Lundazi district.

He thanked the people of Eastern Province for contributing to bumper
harvest in the 2010/2011 farming season.

  1. FRA will get your maize and then pay you next year………Kunda is not telling Lundazi people the truth.FRA does not pay on tym.

  2. Just keep your seed for the next planting season or else you will starve as these fools will just collect your maize and not pay. Additionally, those of you near areas where you can barter, just trade for the essentials that you need. This is election year and as usual, only those who look desperate enough will be given some free cloth and munkoyo!! Nizanu izo, neo nemuuzyani!

  3. My heart breeds when i read all the insults that are posted each and everyday against whoever presidential candidate one dislikes. Where are we going? What has become of us as Zambians? whether we like it or not , RB,MCS or HH will never be in state at the same time. It has to be one at a time. And it is only God who will give us a leader since we are a christian nation. Let us all look to God. I rest my case.

  4. Surely it’s up to the farmers if they want to sell at a reduced price. At least it’s instant cash, FRA make farmers wait to long for their hard earned cash.

  5.  i think the prices FRA is offering are bogus, wat do you espect a farmer to benefit frm the 6500 for every 50 kg,do you kno how hard it is to produce a50 kg of maize.the govt has to seriosly look in to the  pockets of the farmers looking at the current economic crisis around, wat would  a farmer buy with 6500 with all these high consumer prices on the market.about fertilizer, the issue is not coming in to the district but the selling price, the fetlizer prices are just too high for the farmers to purchase,so mr vice president workout a proper technique if you realy want to diversify the economy
