THE MMD has said it is confident of getting all the rural constituencies and half of the urban seats on the Copperbelt in the forthcoming general elections.

MMD chairperson for elections, Gabriel Namulambe told the Times in Mpongwe that the ruling party had managed to penetrate the province which was previously perceived to be a stronghold of the opposition Patriotic Front (PF).

He said President Rupiah Banda would get more votes compared to the PF leader Michael Sata because the people of the Copperbelt had now decided to support the ruling party because of the goodwill of the MMD party.

“This time around there will be big margins which will be clearly in favour of President Banda and Mr Sata would be trailing behind in the province. The PF should not bask in their former glory but they should wake up and see how much ground the MMD has gained,” he said

Mr Namulambe said people on the Copperbelt who had been working with the MMD had seen its ability to deliver in areas such as infrastructure development and the Fertiliser and Input Support Programme which had enhanced agriculture in the area.

He said although the PF leader had criticised the Government for slashing the number of fertiliser bags given to farmers from eight to four each, the move had even increased maize production from 2.9 tonnes to 3.1 tonnes in the country.

He said people in the province wanted the MMD to continue because they knew that the party would deliver even more development if it was voted back into office in this year’s elections.

Mr Namulambe who was vying for the Mpongwe seat on the MMD ticket said people in the area were behind President Banda and had pledged to vote for the president, the MMD parliamentary candidate and area councillors.

He said people in Mpongwe would not be easily cheated by any opposition party because they have seen more development come to the area under the MMD Government over the last few years.

Mr Namulambe said there were development projects in almost every place in Mpongwe District initiated by President Banda and the MMD Government.

“It’s only people who have no vision for the country who have failed to see the massive development that is currently taking place in Zambia,” he said.

  1. You are are even proud that you will be getting the rural vote????? nosense its bcoz you oways exploit the ignorant villagers.

  2. No complacency instead every let every campaign machinery remain in overdrive. This year it’s rumble in the jangle. With humility and truth building on the solid foundation lets reconnect with the people to receive a landslide.

  3. No complacency instead llet the campaign machinery remain in overdrive. This year it’s rumble in the jangle. With humility and truth building on the solid foundation lets reconnect with the people to receive a landslide.

  4. While they zero on personality and ritual practices, orient the establishment machinery to continue articulating fundamental national issues boarding on human welfare and social progresss. We have systematically managed to immobilize and disorient them but it has to be beyond the victory date.

  5. “Government slash the number of fertiliser bags given to farmers from eight to four each, the move increased maize production from 2.9 tonnes to 3.1 tonnes in the country”.

What is the correlation or logic here? Did this guy go to school? The 4 bags was being given to small farmers who suffered immensely last season. The increase came from big commercial farmers. How can this fool celebrate that the decrease in fertilizer input worked good for the farmers? How many people think in MMD? I pray they use that as a campaign tool in Ndola, Rural. Mpombo will relish that. MMD can say that in my area Luapula. We don’t really need fertizer for fishing. I think that is why my Chief Kazembe has become another jester.

    • Reduce the no. of bags, but increase the number of farmers. Farmers did not sell any bag at black market and they ensured that they they worked harder and utilised the bags they were given well. The result was increased maize production from 2.9 tonnes to 3.1 tonnes in the country. Simple logic

  6. The essence of Fertilizer Support Program- FSP is to create capacity among farmers. As the objective is being realized, people are graduating from dependence on Government while more starts to appreciate Agriculture and are vesting their own resources into it. FSP is not meant to create a dependence syndrome on the Government but trigger Agrian interest for commercial benefits in the country. With a steadstay in food security, FSP will be gradually withdrawn so that GRZ can direct resources to other areas of national interest.

  7. #5 The correlation is MORE small scale farmers benefited when 4 bags were given out. Imwe ba Kalos mwaishibafye Dont Kubeba

  8. # 7, and you think the farmers that were receiving 8 before and now they are receiving 4 are very happy because others also received their share? In fact if the input is the same but now just in smaller portions, that cannot increase the output bwana. It is just like taking one $20.00 note and changing it into 20 $1.00 notes. How much will you have again? If 8 bags of fertizer produces 20 bags of maize, how much will 4 bags produce? Go figure bwana.

  9. #6, I totally agree with you. More especially on the last sentence. FSP is gradually withdrawing help to the small farmers so that GRZ can direct resources to other areas of national interest. More especially that farm in Chipata owned by none other than RUPIAH BANDA! That to MMD is national interest.

  10. #7 As already stated by somebody above, the purpose of the FSP is to build capacity of the small scale farmers and raise them from the level where they are to a significantly higher level. However, the programme has been abused because every year people wants to get these highly subsidised inputs despite them having earned some income to stand on their own. Even civil servants are getting this subsidised fertiliser. The FSP has also been marred by corruption and political patrionage. The purpose of reducing the package from 8 to 4 was to allow as many farmers as possible to have access to this subsidised fertiliser.

  11. No wonder you are Senior Citizen. Your maturity in debating issues is well above the “dont Kubeba” demagogues represented here by one Kalos2121. If MMD must ever be voted out of office, it must not be this year. The opposition just don’t have any good plans for this nation. You can clearly see it in Kabimba, Sata, Gay Scot and their followers here.

  12. The goal of the FSP is to empower the masses to produce by increasing access to inputs as against mass production by a few! This was a nice move.

  13. Which correlation are u talking about. 8 bags of fertilizer means that the farmer will sell 4 and use four. when u give the farmer four bags he will sell one and use three. from 8 that means they two farmers will use 6. meaning increased maize production from 2.9 tonnes to 3.1 tonnes in the country.

Cheating is present and u can calculate correlation when cheating is present. They are very few farmers who use all the four bags or 8 bags as the case were. Ichisungu

  14. Progress report from the ground: If your party has not worked hard, smart and strategically the writing on the wall is clear. Just for clarity, working hard and smart does not include spending the last three years in full gear insulting and telling lies about your colleagues without any attempt to convince the Zambian people that you can do better, and it does not include campaigning on the front pages of the Post instead of being on the ground with real people.

  15. Namulambe wait, you’ll be shocked! People should start getting prepared for heart attacks. lol You are even proud that you can CHEAT the villagers with things like PA systems, helicopters and plenty vehicles curtesy of tax payers money when you go campaigning? WAIT just a little bit longer!!!

  16. 1. ARTICLE 3
    PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS
The Party shall ensure that all the public institutions, State-owned enterprises and popular mass
and similar organizations are led by persons who are members of the Party and who are
Uncompromisingly committed to achievements of the Party. This ladies and is article 3 of the pf constitution and honestly how the hell do you think you can work in a government position in a country with such a constitution, certainly you cant trust mr sata you cant trust such a man vote RB

  17. People are still eating hippo’s due to no income to buy real meat.
This is how the rural are treated by MMD.
    No development that increases jobs.

The only increases are the bank accounts of Rupiah and sons and the Chinese who are raping the country with impunity.

20 years of madness is enough.
Vote to remove MMD this month and relieve people like Senior Citizen from their pains.

  18. DOES NAMULAMBE KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH NOW? HOW CAN A PERCEIVED BIG PARTY LIKE MMD HAVE CHAIRMAN OF ELECTIONS WHO CAN HADLY SPEAK ENGLISH, ITS COMEDY. NAMULAMBE KNOWS THE TRUTH, HES JUST FOOLING BANDA. COME SETEMBER 22, HE WILL BE UPND.
