MMD president Nevers Mumba has defended his storming of Sate House yesterday without making an appointment with President Michael Sata, by stating that the presidential Palace is a public institution that can be visited by any Zambian.
Speaking at media briefing in Lusaka this afternoon, Dr. Mumba said he does not require permission or an appointment to visit State House as it is a public place.
The MMD president said that his visit to State House yesterday was merely to seek an audience with President Sata to understand why President Sata is targeting MMD MPs in his recent appointments to positions of deputy ministers.
Dr. Mumba said the move smells some evil agenda on the part of President Sata and the government stating that there has never been such a precedence of appointing MPs from one political party.
He added that the issues that have been raised by various stakeholders on his unexpected visit to State House are unnecessary.
And Dr. Mumba has further charged that the continued appointment of MMD MPs to ministerial portfolios is an assault on democracy which should be stopped.
He has since disclosed that the MMD will soon start going round the country to explain to Zambians on the PF government’s alleged intentions of turning the country into a one party state.
Dr. Mumba has also appealed to MMD MPs still serving as deputy minister to make their intentions known to Zambians before the party makes the final decision on Wednesday.
He has since commended Lumezi Member of Parliament Isaac Banda for heeding to the party’s directive by relinquishing his position as deputy minister of Mines, Energy and water Development.

That’s the way foreward Zambians need political convictions that speak louder than temporal jobs of appointments from the PF govt. Constituencies do not vote in members of parliament to turn them into ruling party’s fortunes. Parliamentary position is more effective than a ceremonial duputy ministerial position serving as an outsider to the system you are not part of the political agenda. Mumba you are wrong. Yes it is a public place, but you don’t just turn on short notice to have an audience with the president. Protocols have to be met because the president has gatekeepers that keep his program.

I hv a lot of respect for Pst. Mumba and I am really disappointed with him for his behaviour on Sunday. Pst Mumba used to stay in Kitwe Jambo Street, Riverside. Anyone who wants to see him, he/she had to make an appointment and you have to stand outside and speak on the intercom and if you are delivering a letter you just leave it at the gate. Dr. Mumba, what you did is not not being courageous! You know very well how State House operates it is not a private home where some body can just walk in at will. Alot of people would like to see the president, a minister or even a permanent secretary on any issue it be official or private there must be an appointment considering the number of people who may need to go there and this is done for orderly purposes. One time you served as Vice President and for sure you know how the office of the president operates. What you did is detrimental and disrespect to the office bearer that would also demean your office as president of your opposition party! Personally, I don’t support such type of uncalled for conduct which can instill disrespect in the presidency!!!
As much as we respect democracy. The president has powers to appoint any one in his cabinet. But if he is appointing people from the opposition he should learn to Consult the leadership of that party affected. This will reduce tensions in the political parties. People of Zambia know what SATANA (CNP) is all up too.

He was too proud to take up an appointment with ZCCM and reside in Twibukishe Township. He was number 2 at Marantha Church but wanted to be number 1 so he left and formed Victory Ministries and married a girl from a rich family. No. The reason was that those MPs accepted to be part and parcel of the NCC which PF predicted that it was just a waste of public money. Even some NGOs and catholic church shunned the so called NCC. Politics of confrontation, recklessness and muscle flexing will not yield any results to a government that has already failed to perform. My advice to Dr. Mumba who I personally support together with his UPND colleague HH is to aide the rule of law and to that of a normal and sane most desirable African tradition that requires young ones to respect elders. PF government has already bought its ticket to goodbye in 2016 or much earlier than that. So Ba Mumba, please do not make them look like heroes by helping them say MMD and UPND are bad parties. Just honarbly engage these failures constructively, and yo will see how they will fail to interpret logic into buying their own way out.
