MMD president Nevers Mumba has described as insensitive the move by the Patriotic Front Government to increase salaries for Ministers, Members of Parliament and other constitutional office holders.

Dr Mumba said that it is bad timing for the PF government to choose to increase salaries at such a time. He stated that it would have been understandable to increase the salaries by at least 35 percent, citing the President’s salary which he said has been increased by 100 percent.

Dr Mumba added that there is no way the PF Government can convince the Zambian people that they are feeling for them at this time.

And Dr Mumba has predicted countrywide demonstrations over the adjusted minimum wage. He said this because employers will not be able to sustain the new wages leading to demonstrations.

Dr Mumba saud Government lacked dialogue over the issue of the minimum wage. He was speaking when he featured on Muvi TV’s the Assignment last evening.

And Mumba says he is deeply shocked that the media in the country has failed to challenge republican President Michael Sata on his continued appointments of MMD members of parliament to serve in his government.

Dr. Mumba has also accused the media of believing the president’s statement that he abandoned his party to become Republican Vice President in the MMD government.

He said that if the media continues to believe the president’s allegations, then it will be very difficult to redeem the levels of journalism.

Dr. Mumba told QFM that it is unfortunate that the media has not been objective on the matter when it is in public domain that what the president is doing is a deliberate assault on democracy.

The MMD leader said that what president Sata is currently doing is very different from the circumstances under which he was appointed Vice president in the MMD government.

  1. Money in pockets. Its PF’s time to chew the money now MMD’s time is over. ba Mumba wesu fukameni mutampe ukupepa limbi fyalaenda bwino

  2. Nevers dont tell lies. You abandoned your church first and then abandoned your party when you wer appointed by Mwanawasa as Vice Predident. This is hipocrecy on your part.

    • Moonga Mulanga, you’re right – if Nevers did not abandon his party can he tell us then what he did instead of just saying Sata is lying. Howard Mulenga, I think you’re the dull one. Instead of being objective you’re personalising the issue.

  3. PF now in sweet Salary hikes,Mmmh History recycles itself, a new middle class arises, all will change except the low. The high and middle make and uphold the law, the low (proletarian) is just too stupid to revolt. The state maintains its structure by intimidation, violence, brainwashing ,sheer propaganda and to any opposition they lash such phrases as bitterness& jealousy”
“Forces continue  to conspire against justice and the poor, they have turned justice from a cherished ideal into an abused commodity,” Favouring “the few”…The promises go on!, Would PF change? kaya….

  4. The Zambian presidency needs someone with a strong financial base like HH, Zambians should understand that Sata as at last mid-year only had 7 guns & probably this is the only time in his life he can accumulate billions. Indeed don’t kubeba & more money in the pocket of the president.

  5. Sata is not presidency materials but just in Zambia. Zambians grow up come 2016, you have a pool of leaders like HH, Milupi, Nevers etc to chose from come 2016. Sata has terribly failled us the people who put him in power. The only achievement pf has made is to label HH & whoever opposes the pf as bitter & jealous. I cry for my beloved country Zambia.

  6. Mumba are you people will demostrate over the increased minimum wage?? Are you normal pastor Mumba?? People want increased wages and then they start demostrating against i….Mmmm Pastor Mumba this does not make sense.

    • Study economics to understand what Mumba and other learned people mean. Are employers going to sustain the wages/salaries – businesses will fold up. Reason sir/madam

  7. Allow us two pasports so we can come home!! To help our country!!!! We aint gonna give up our european ones so don’t even ask

  8. Mr Mumba, when you say the salary increments should have been at least 35% it means anything above 35% is acceptable.

  9. mmm ba Nervers, was the President accusing you or its is common knowledge that you left your party & became VP??? im confused here…politics!

  10. Under which circumstances was Nevers Mumbwa appointed please tell Nation. You have joined HH in opposing anything that comes from Sata.Loser mentality

  11. As long as we the people of Zambia can not stand up and defend our resources from abuse by those we elect to lead us this abuse will continue. PF condemed Banda for increasing salaries and they have done the same. It make you wonder if these PF people really believe what they preach..Fed up of these PF chaps already.

  12. Mumba stop complaining about yoyr MPs being appointed as deputy ministers. Strive to amend the constitution to restrict the executive to appointing only MPs from the ruling party. As things stand the executive has power to appoint any MP to any ministerial position. Expelling uour MPs is not the answer close these loop holes in the constitution.

  13. Brother Nevers, according to my calculation, the so-called 100% increment given to the President brings his annual salary to US$ 66 000 or just about US$5 500/month. Now, is that what you call too much? This is what Zambian senior staff get on some mines. If I was in charge, I would review the president’s salary to US$30 000/ month because in all fairness the president needs to be paid a good salary. let’s not even waste time debating this issue.

  14. No 3

Ukwa does not have only 7 guns. Maybe you were to young. Privatisation of state assets started under Sata. He sold off avondale houses and pocketed millions of kwacha’s then. KK fired him over the fraud sale of the houses. To day this same guy can stand up and tell the world that HH sold off Zambian companies.  As Health minister he banked state funds in his personal account.

In short you voted the thief into statehouse

  15. And if the next government comes into power, he needs to be taken to court and he must answer for all these cases. Lets no even talk about human rights abuse when he was in MMD and ran a gang of youths beating up people.

  16. Zuma just got R200,000 per month more than the French, Germany and Britain leaders. Zambians must be realistic, how much does a Bank Govonor get, Barclays CEO, Mine managers, Safety officers with SAMTRAC qualification? Divide 25MK by the current Dollar rate, the fellow is under paid. Mumba, who regulated his salary when he was president of Victory Ministries? Impiya Europe waile weka. Ishiba Ilyashi lyobe ilya hand to mouth. Up to know you have not even managed a million Euro in your account. TWALISHIBA MWEBENGE EFYO MWAIKALA NA ZED YAWAMA. Just enjo Pasta, Pizza and shut up. If you were interested to go home you would have gone.

    • I’m thinking you are a sponsored blogger to support PF rhetoric. I say so because you seem sufficiently educated and reasonable enough to contribute better to this debate. A simple and straight forward response to your blog is available @Jay Jay posting at 37 (if it remains there). In addition, all the countries you have listed are way above Zambia’s league so start thinking from the.

    • Chief Executives, movie stars, sports stars and so on earn and make more than hundred times what the U.S president makes. This is a position to serve people where somebody gets a reasonable pay. It’s not there to make people rich.

  17. Mr Sata was very bitter about the increased salaries when RB assumed office and calledhim all sorts of names. RB atleast sent back to parliament to see how best they could explain the increased salaries to the poor masses. Twalimwebele bane. Morebis coming. Donchi………..!

  18. Chiwamina garu!!!!! kekekekekekeke!!! u see now bamumba how ur friends were feeling? I wish u were in Govt!!!!! kekekekekekeke!!!!!!!

  19. This salary increase goes against Sata’s election promise to keep down the costs of operating GRZ .He promised to cut back on both the number of ministries and presidential travel. The zambian public is now paying more for much shoddy presidential output. How much was the president making and how much does he make now?Is this info in the public domain?

  20. infact he needs more money than 27 million, its lower than any director in this country…@Natasha just open your legs to every zambian man on CB maybe we may change our thinking for HH…..Sata is better material but not HH with full of cow dung in his head

  21. Gentelemen, Sata just increased salaries of doctors by 100% some months ago early this year. Are you living in this world or not?

  22. UPND will reverse the increment and only allow an inflation based adjustment to RB’s wages – this is what happens in organisations that depend on taxpayers’ money.

  23. Nevers who was condemnning you when you were stealing at the embassy in Canada? Shut your little mouth

  24. i stand corrected but i think Zambians r blind *****s end of story, if Zambians were smart this country would have been different bt ur ignorance will cost u. and check comments on LT u can tell how empty people with basic undestanding of matters which affect there lives to day and the future.

    • I hate to admit this but I, 100%, agree with you. And that is not just about this article.
We so often cheat ourselves as to how educated we are supposed to be, but it appears we are good at mastering the text books but very poor at critical analysis of issues.

  25. This is “gluttony” on PF and Sata of the highest order….what we should be asking ourselves is why is he (Mumba) condemning this is issue now, when his MPs knew about this as they got the selfsame pay rise as far back as April..everyone was happy and mute enjoy as long as nobody finds out. It takes an amateur online website to disclose this news. Non of the professional independent media outlets picked up on this or chose to ignore this; they were all at state house being fed statements by the press secretary. What type of journalists do we have in Zambia that can’t monitor SI amendments.

  26. #20Bob you must be sleeping bwana, wake up! You this the Southern Province party will rule Zambia? akuloteni… Sata & his PF gov seems better that all the past gov.

  27. I am in a dilemma on this one. I must be honest I was not aware that the President’s salary was that low. I know there other privileges and allowances which makes making an objective assessment difficult with knowledge of what those are in monetary terms. If we just take the salary and the allowance quoted in the news blogs, then it is on the low side when you compare with what Government institutions such as Bank of Zambia, ZRA, NAC and others pay their CEOs. It would explain why we have few educated and honest people (who would not want to steal once in power) joining the race unless they already rich like HH. Increasing the salaries may help credible and educated candidates but when should be increased. To be continued..

  28. Nevers Nevers Nevers, please answer the question, Did you not abandon Church and your flock in preference for the Veep job?

    • I think I will answer this for him. Yes, yes he abandoned his flock and political party to join the MMD and serve as the VP for the country. If you think about it and from your own statement, the key word is “ABANDONED”! Where as these greedy morons are sitting on the MMD tickets while responding to the treacherous Sata tactics of killing democracy in the country. Mumba cannot deny being a political prostitute but at least he “freed” himself unlike these morons who are simply being used.

  29. Some of the analysis being made here is just a load of crap. Just because one Nevers did bla bla nonsense nonsense fimo fimo, some thug must come and uscrupulously pay himself at the expense of the innocent tax payers.Where is the plan for better and affordable health care, housing, education, economic empowerment, etc.? What has HH or Nevers got to do with some other people paying themselves huge sums (quietly for that matter) while a lot of issues remain unresolved? I am calmly waiting to hear our beloved president call a press conference at which he will clearly outline how he will make a difference and leave a better legacy than the previous ones

  30. the challenges is when to increase. Increasing now when so many people are in poverty and government needs every ngwee to go towards development does not seem right. But if salary is the attraction, then not increasing meaning we will already attract low calibre leaders. This applies more to MPs who will not continue being after the end of their term. As I said its hard to me to make a meaningful contribution to this debate be of my inclination that the salary is to low.

  31. It stinks listening to MMD unintelligent cadres, including Kabimba and Sakeni, singing the now sterile “bitter and shocked” verbature of their Satanic boss, CNP Zondwe. Reading his responses to HH and Mumba, one almost cried that an embacile like this can be elected president of any country. I hope cancer takes this vile lumpen out of his sorry misery before he pollutes the whole country.

  32. The country is now working on the principle of ‘pay yourselves first’. Watch this precedence in the public service!!!!

  33. walasa

That’s where you people get it wrong no politican anywhere in the world is paid higher than the CEO not even in the USA, Politicians don’t go into politics to accumulate wealth they go there to serve YOU, David Cameron is paid £142,000 a year and a CEO for a FTSE 100 UK company is paid about £1million+ excl. bonus and shares option, why because CEO is employed to make money for shareholders and to attract the best people you have to pay them handsomely.. get the drift?
Zambia is a very poor developing country, when is that going to sink in your heads, 20% of its budget is supplemented by donors. The selfsame donors who have implemented government spending cuts in their own countries. The French president just approved a paycut for himself

    Wake up people!

    • Obama gets $400,000, Lebron James or Kobe get more that 10 times the US president. Still the president commands more than 20 times authority than these guys who get far more than him.

  34. There are alot of officers in some govt institutions that draw salaries more than the president. I can recall one of the Managing Directors in one of the Govt owned banks who draws over K45million per month. Compared to the office in the land that draws on that amount that was indicated in the Friday’s paper, can we say it is too much? Ba Mumba don’t demean your self by opposing anything.

    • So what? How are you going to attract the best managers with the best ideas to make our gov’t institutions profitable? Would you leave your position (with your young family) at an Investment banking firm or World Bank overseas to take a 60% paycut to work as BOZ governor? Be realistic and…
      Wake up!!

  35. Which President on his first state visit, refused to eat dinner in Botswana and what were his reasons for not partaking in the cuisine?

  36. Did people expect Nevers to continue preaching when Mwanawasa appointed him as VP? Believe the lies at your own peril!

  37. What is the position of ZFE on this increament. Why is blocking the poor and yet the heavy weights are building up. Is ZFE an *****?

  38. Iwe the presido salary is reasonably low and deserves an upswing by any means. The factor is how he mitigates overspending outside the payroll arrangement.

  39. #39 I think it is the same president who would not drink bottled water until all Zambians had access to clean water.

  40. If the president’s salary is low, then why all the noise when RB increased his and that of ministers? If this is the best some of you can come up with then I should not be surprised that you will condemn HH for being a tribalist  but see nothing wrong with the fact that 80% of cabinet ministers are from one region of the country and accept that finance minister and his deputy, the defence minister and others are family members of the president. I guess if Zambians were not stupid they would not have voted for Ukwa period.

    • One could not put it better! You are spot on…
It just have to look at thought direction of people like Wanu Ngwee @27 above and you can see exactly what you are trying to say.

  41. Our people have been awarded a minimum wage, so what is wrong increasing the President and Ministers salaries? This govt is delivering so that’s why cabinet has seen it fit upward adjust salaries.

  42. Jay Jay

that is why I said I was in a dilemma because I know we are too poor to be improving salaries of public worker. However the examples u have given are for private firms. I would appreciate if u could enlighten me if the presidents in the countries u mentioned get less than other public workers. Before I left Zambia, I was getting 15 million at entry level in the public sector, not a parastatal but a non profit agency of government and that is why I said it is on the low side hence attracting either people with the desire to serve the people without monetary gain or low calibre leaders such as we have

    • The deputy Governor in Texas gets more than the Governor Rick Perry, its all public information. Reasons could be that he has more resposibilities than the Governor himself. The President of the University of Texas at Austin, a public institution gets over $550,000 annually, higher than OBAMA who gets only 400,000. A lot more public officers get more than the U.S President. It could be their expertise or experience, but for sure the president is not the highest payed public officer.

  43. You are jerous Nevers, if it was you, you would be so quite. You are forgetting when you changed the law for Banda to get his pension and other things. We agree to the increment and we support it, so that the Leaders can not be corrupted.

  44. You see, Shamenda and the PF are learning what governance is.
They have began to learn that:
    1) governance is reality as opposed to a wish.
    2) It is a science other than mere art and performamnce.
    3) they have learnt that it needs thinking rather than dreaming and singing and dancing victory songs.
    4) It is for people with some reasonable education rather than those with nothing.
    5) That you govern by telling the truth than lying to people about what you cant do.
    6) Most importantly, they are beggining to to learn that they are the ones to play and score, rather than cheer and criticise from the stadium seats.

With these little observations I must say that so far they are not doing well in their class, I hope they will obtain a bear pass – I doubt though!

  45. If Zambians do not learn from the “more money in your pockets” hoax which was used by PF to woo votes, then there’s no hope for my lovely country.Tribe aside MCS has failed Zambia. If there’s anybody who thinks things will get better under the current presidency is living in denial.

  46. If the comment above represent Zambian thinking then the country is doomed……..I have never felt better about my move to this date.

    What a country of morons……….

  47. People can’t even state the amount. It’s about 50,000 US dollars or something, I earn more than that as an employee of a company. It’s nothing!

  48. I am in support of the position that it is wrong to increase the salary of the president and mr mumba is right on that. with pf barely over 9 months in power. one would have hoped that since the president is taken care of even after leaving the presidency till death, mr sata could have held on to see how the economy performs at a certain sustainable level. i see this a selfish venture and one that does not support economic development at all. it is sad that this all zambia and africa has for leadership. so sad, when children are dying for simple lacking of food and water. old mothers and fathers are still dying because they cant access a clinic to get medication of malaria. all is sad now, may as usual

  49. Agogo taught me years ago, that to succeed in life, always remember “JOY”.
    Jesus first
    Others second
    Yourself last
That way JESUS will guide you and protect you. The OTHERS will pray for you to be given more and to live longer. When it is the other way round, the evidence is as above,,,,! Amen!

  50. For the first time Zambians are able to see that we are morons for allowing mediocrity for leadership.

  51. I see darkness,……… even in broad day light!!!!!! We are either goin round in circles or down the drain no hope!!!!!!!!

  52. @ tell it all, remember this even in your age. zambians are loving people, they may entrust power in you to help them develop. it is such a sad thing, even when they give you so much you may not have not dreamed of, yet you go just to make zambians look a fool. its not good

  53. Nevers, Don’t Kutina. Kubeba. Tell them. Where is the money for the increment coming from? Tax payers money when no medicines in clinics countrywide. Ba Pafwaka are crooks zoona.

  54. Mumba is right; these punks should put money in OUR pockets FIRST before putting money in their pockets. This is daylight robbery! Opposition MPs can’t even utter a word because they are beneficiaries. *****S. Elias Chipimo Jr. sossa tukakuvotela, Nangula, walipoka increment nawebo?

  55. If we can not follow policy, we are doomed. What is the policy governing salary increase for the president? I have no clue. I am for policy based leadership. One Zambia One Nation.

  56. Sata real man of action. More cash in his pocket and less money in his supporters pockets. Sata that is the way to go.

  57. Thats is why CNP rushed to impose a minimum wage because they were getting ready to line their pockets with taxpayer money. The difference is, private sector employers have to work hard for the money they pay workers. The Kaponya’s just have to dip into public coffers!!

  58. By the end of Five years we will have nothing left in the Reserve Bank, All what is there now will be squandered on salaries of Sata’s reletives and friends.

  59. Zo-ona i ges we didn’t vote so dat u guyz(politicians)get rich..right now there is no Panado in one of districts in north western.so ts more money in your pockets..hey hypocrites we are watching you..

  60. Did Sata promise more money in his Pocket or People’s pockets, this is Rabbish zambians let’s stand and defend ourselves from these liers. It is not normal for any one or any group of people to have 100% increament. Those Supporting this are also thieves. If this will not be stopped ,then next salary negotiations,we should all demand for not less than 100% salary Increaments. Our leaders have set an example.Govt has money to pay all us.
    RABBISH

  61. What is it about a presidents salary. K27.5m eyo mulelandilapo ifyabupuba. By the way, people get paid money, and I mean big money. Go and ask the guys at NAPSA, ZRA, RTSA, RDA, RDF or Zamtel or ZESCO how much the chief executive office gets. I am sorry I would not complain with you guys on the meagre salaries the MPs, Ministers and Presidents get. The president gets just about $5200 per month.

  62. this news is pathetic, these fat hypocrites with piggy bellies continue to make themselves rich while the majority of zambians continue to die in poverty.Injustice at its best.

  63. sam_g Sorry youths are just tools to access power, not giving them money…… part of Dochi Kubeba

  64. Hey, you used to write excellent, but the last several posts have been kinda boring?? I miss your great writings. Past several posts are just a little bit out of track! come on!

  65. We wish to thank you all over again for the beautiful ideas you offered Janet when preparing her own post-graduate research in addition to, most importantly, regarding providing many of the ideas in a blog post. If we had known of your web page a year ago, we would have been rescued from the useless measures we were having to take. Thank you very much.

  66. yaah so that there will be no excuse 4 stealing, who ever will be caught/found stealing after this increament should just be hunged including the president himself,

  67. Zambians, please stop complaining, you voted for these Patriotic Fools (PF)!
”You made your own bed,you lie in it”….so the saying goes

  68. It is a shame that most people in Zambia are uneducated and lack a deep understanding of what goes on in the international economy landscape. In the first instance when they exercise their voting rights; they do not know what to demand from the elected leaders. The most amazing and shocking thing is that the elected leaders do not know either what to do when voted in power but funny enough stealing and lying seems so innate and easy to do. Why don´t we begin by creating employment, education, healthcare and proper retirement packages for the Zambian citizens. Firstly we have to build road and rail network, schools, hospitals, culture centres, housing developments, factories and commercial blocks. It is the responsibility of the new generation to work with the government

  69. by providing them with the knowledge acquired by showing them how they can help us live long fulfilling lives. I believe there so many Zambians that have lived or are still living in developed nations and some of them have gone to Ivy-league schools. This is a good starting point, to participate in building a new learning culture of Zambians that will be proud to share their knowledge besides just earning a salary. Development only comes to a selfishness society everyone must participate besides we all have talents.

  70. Africans generally are not hard workers; it would be very important to teach people that there is no such thing as something for nothing. And each group of people in society must find ways of how to help each other and not to wait on the government. We usually ask what the government should do for us; maybe it is time to ask what we can do for each other. We desperately need to develop; we must have the desire to live long lives, in hygienic houses, in good health (body and mind) and personal development. Basically, most Zambians have never known what it means to have a quality life.

  71. Basically, we have the right to express our opinions practically on any subject but we should conserve our energy towards matters that can enrich us. We are a very poor and uneducated society and that robs us of human integrity and dignity that we all deserve. We should not concentrate in speaking cheap and superficially. We have real problems to tackle, which fall on the responsibility for all of us Zambians. Concern Citizen
