Four Zambian players from the 2012 Africa cup winning team have made the preliminary shortlist for the 2012 CAF African player of the year awards.
Meanwhile, the TP Mazembe duo of Rainford Kalaba and Stroppila Sunzu who who are part of that shortlist have also been nominated for the CAF African-based player of the year award.
In the main category, Zambia captain Christopher Katongo of Henan Jianye in China and Southampton striker Emmanuel Mayuka join Kalaba and Sunzu vying for the African player of the year award.
In all, three Zambian players from TP Mazembe have made in on either list that was officially unveiled by CAF on Thursday.
Striker Given Singuluma joins his compatriots Kalaba and Sunzu on the African-based player’s award category.
CAF will announce the top 10 final shortlist in each of the two categories at the end of this month who will battle for honours on December 20 in Accra, Ghana.
Given the Chance I would vote for Kalaba 90% of the goals scored by Zambia at the tournament were as a result of Kalaba’s assists
Stopphila Sunzu deserves the African player of the year award. He is a good defender and has been winning man of the match awards. Its time a defender won it this time round.

I understand your excitement but to be blunt,I don’t see any of the Zambian player making the shortlist and late alone winning the accolade.

@My Opinion, when I said I understand your excitement I was talking about *****s like you.I am  a realist and I see things as they come.The six games at the AFCON doesn’t determine the winner of the accolade,they look at an all round game.People who vote are not stupid like you.I can go on and list a thousands reasons why I think our guys don’t stand a chance,but it will be a shear waste of time since stupidos like you wouldn’t understand.

The top players in Africa Drogba and Yaya Toure failed to shine and failed to break us down in gabon. The award should Go to a Zambian for both awards. Even the Barcelona guy Salif Keita from Mali failed to impress.
The two Ba from Senegal were a pale shadow and the Ghanain star was reduced. These are strong points to make a Zambian Win.
Now let us beat Uganda to prove OUR Point.

What most of you don’t understand is the winning of the African footballer of the year does not depend on the AFCON..people who vote look at general performance,at national and club level that  is.When you look at players like Drogba and Yaya,these guys reached the final of the afcon,then they won important trophies for their respective clubs…I can only say the opposite about our players.This alone makes it a foregone conclusion who the likely winners are.Now,don’t get me wrong.I am so proud of what the boys did at the AFCON and would love to see one of them winning the trophy but we have to be realistic here
Sunzu will get it because it is alleged that the other one doesnt allow others to score due to his herbal laptop made of kachele roots, mubanga stem, marula bark and musekese leaves which he wears around the neck….check the picture

@ Sharpshooter you are missing the point! Most of them especially the TP Mazembe players are achievers at their club so what are we talking about? they have a fair hance of winning the accolade. The drogbas of this world cant even boast of a gold medal at the Afcon which Mbesuma, Evans Kangwa and the rest have.
