MMD leader Dr. Nevers Mumba has stated that it is hypocritical for President Michael Sata to condemn opposition leaders who have decided to shun Wednesday’s commemoration of Zambia’ 48th Independence anniversary.

At a news briefing in Lusaka, Dr. Mumba said President Sata has gone on record has one of the politicians who never attended any state functions whilst in opposition.

“It is hypocritical for President Sata to turn around and criticize our decision to stay away from such celebrations because he never attended any in the ten years in opposition,” Dr. Mumba added.

He said attending celebrations at State House might be misconstrued to mean that he was happy with the manner in which President Sata is administering national issues.

Dr. Mumba said staying away from State House functions is another signal that the opposition has declared a dispute with government over key national issues.

“I don’t need to have tea at State House with President Sata to make him aware that things are not well in this country. I would rather stay home with my family and have tea at my house although I may not have enough Sugar in my tea or I would even spend time with the poor at the Village than sit and drink tea at State House,” Dr. Mumba said.

Meanwhile, Opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) will not attend tomorrow’s independence celebrations because the party has not received official invitation from the government.

FDD Secretary General Nathan Mulonga has confirmed the development in an interview with ZANIS today adding that the party would have loved to participate in the independence celebrations.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Mulonga described the incidence as an oversight on the part of Cabinet Office.

“As FDD, we have not received an invitation letter to attend the 2012 independence celebrations. We could have loved to participate but we can’t. I think it’s an over-sight on the part of government,” he lamented.

And Mr. Mulonga has advised Zambians to desist from excessive drinking because it is counter-productive.

“People should avoid drinking too much but concentrate on areas which realise economic independence,” said Mr Mulonga.

He thanked the fore fathers for liberating Zambia politically noting that the nation has achieved a lot since attaining independence 48 years ago.

But Zambia Empowerment for Development (ZED) Secretary General Kelly Mukonka confirmed that his party has received official invitation from government to attend independence celebrations at State House tomorrow.

Mr. Mukonka told ZANIS in a separate interview that his party will participate in the independence commemorations .

“ZED received the invitation letter from government and we shall attend the independence celebrations at State House,” Mr. Mukonka said.

But Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary In-charge of Special Duties In’utu Suba said the government expected all patriotic Zambians to take part in the celebrations.

Ms Suba stated that she sent invitation letters to all stakeholders including political parties to attend the Independence Day celebrations because national events were not restricted only to the ruling Patriotic Front party.

Ms. Suba slammed opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to shun Independence Day celebrations at State for selfish interests.

Mr. Hichilema has indicated that he will boycott this year’s national event which falls on October 24, 2012 saying it was a sheer waste of time.

The theme for this year’s independence day is dubbed,” Celebrating 48 years of independence with vision, hardwork and unity.

President Michael Sata is tomorrow expected to honour freedom fighters and other eminent Zambians for their distinguished contributions to the nation as part of independence celebrations.

  1. Thanks Mumba for being articulate and sticking your politics to”key national issues”.Now ba PF political spin machines will cheapen your stance as being bitter, jelous or being envious.

    • Cheap copycat politics. When Sata was in opposition he had a large following, and people actually supported his boycotts. What following do you have in comparison? Boycott your way into oblivion and irrelevance.

    • @The Equalizer- this is very shallow reasoning. Who says you can only boycott if you have a large following. Did Sata ask any of his large following if they wanted him to miss the events

    • Punka jones equalizer which large following are you on about? some times it serves to think through things before exposing you i.d.i.o.c.y

  2. Honestly the administration of the Zambia under PF is better than the MMD which Dr Mumba was part of. Is He trying to say Zambia was better off under the MMD a few years ago? If so then why were they repenting and asking for forgiveness from Zambians? Thats the sad part of politics, politicians ussually forget what they said yesterday….

    • ALa…! Where do you live you fuul? Zambia was better under MMD than PF. Tell me what was the exchange rate? Zambia’s ranking on World Bank on Business index? We have fallen 10 times “big time” in just one year. You must be sick iwe Kolwestan CNP.

    • Poor thinking Dre. You say
“Honestly the administration of the Zambia under PF is better than the MMD which Dr Mumba was part of”
How can you forget that Sata was in the MMD for a much longer time than Mumba yet you blame everything on others. Shame.

  3. Some will some won’t. It’s not everyone that can be there. Whether you talk good or rubbish, its independence day. You can postpond your participation to 2016 plus five more years thrreafter. Its ok its alright. Others will do it. Thats the way it has been and ever shall be.

  4. The boycott will not solve the so-called ” key National Issues” as thse will be stambling blocks until taken to the ruling party for dialogue.
Your ‘punch for punch’ will not make you president as it already making look like directionless,
So, baFake Pastor what is your strategy?

  5. IF IT WAS A HUMAN BEING TALKING I WOULD MAYBE SUPPORT THE SENTIMENTS. BUT, THE CHAP WHO HAS REACTED ISN’T A HUMAN BEING IN THE HEAD. JUST A FEW DAYS AGO HE WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT PF POACHING MMD MEMBERS FOR APPOINTMENTS AS DEPUTY MINISTERS AND YET HE WAS POACHED HAPPILY BY LEVY TO BECOME VICE PRESIDENT. IN SHORT HE’S NOT THE RIGHT PERSON TO COMPLAIN BECAUSE HE’S ALSO A HAPPY PROSTITUTE. NM HASN’T GOT ANY THREAD OR GRAIN OF WISDOM. MONEY HAS GONE TO HIS GREY MATTER AND HE CAN’T SEE ANY SENSE IN ANYTHING SENSIBLE.

  6. Ba Pastor Mumba, two wrongs do not make a right. The best way of demonstrating that Mr. Sata was wrong when he boycotted independence day celebrations when he was in opposition is for you to go to State House today and celebrate independence day with him!

  7. No problem Mr Mumba u can catch the proceedings on ZNBC TV it will be Live and see the Commander in Chief will drinking Tea with your family.

  8. It is indeed a shame that the opposition political parties are taking the same roots and bad behaviors that the PF party had when it was in opposition. If we can remember well, many people as well as organizations and the MMD condemned the stance that PF had embarked on of shunning state functions saying such functions were above politics. I thought they (MMD)would be different, so Sata set a trend that when you are in opposition shun state functions and even the like of Mumba who should be preaching reconciliation are in the forefront shunning these activities. They invite you to state house you say no and give petty reason, yet you are the same chap who stormed state house without an appointment demanding to see the president. Why not use this opportunity anyway. They are different!

  9. am from the same village with Dr Mumba, but i dont know why i hate him this much.change your style of politics ba mumba,i have never seen any one from northern with such bitterness.am praying for you

    • You TRIBALIST. you want to confine Mumbas to think the way you herbalists think that even when Ukwa is wrong you support simply just because he is you regional mate. We are now aware of your open Tribalism you bastards.

    • You hypocrit.
First you say that you hate him and then you say you are praying for him?
      Which bible are you using?
Hating someone is sin already sin in itself. Then you go on to pray for him?
You can not pray for someone you hate.

  10. I am surprised that a PS can dress down an opposition party leader.  Aren’t these guys meant to be above party politics?

  11. VIVA HH. There is nothing to celebrate about. Framers are not paid by FRA but you fill your stomachs. Shame. People are languishing in prison for expressing their rights by shredding the waste paper constitution and you say we celebrate.
Go ahead and celebrate. I do not need to be forced to celebrate. When you re happy you automaatically celebrate,.
But if outsiders President Banda of malawi see no need to celebrate independence with dictotors, how can HH not See that.

  12. PF sycophants please give us a break! Sata your tribal hero boycotted all state functions for 10 years when he was in opposition. You all seem to have a severe case of Romnesia. There’s no Obamacare for you in Zambia unfortunately, and you’ll probably all end at Chainama.

  13. No quality opposition leaders in Zed. We are in trouble as a nation. They need a short term course in politics. Bwafya!

  14. Why do most Zambian men look fat and unhealthy?
Anyone knows something called a gym?

I cant stand seeing a man who has excess weight on them, I prefer to see men with muscle all over them, Mr Mumba looks to be carrying unwanted fat, the consequences could be catastrophically for people that do not exercise

    When will black men learn?

    Thanks

  15. If PF’s tactics of being rude, crude, stubbon and shunning state functions helped then get into power why not use the same formula. Do not re-invent the wheel learn and replicated things that work. Its a shame that PF is now condenming what they used to do.

  16. @Mushota#13
Will you please re-read the last part of your sentence in the second paragraph. “the consequences could be catastrophically for people that do not exercise”. The correct term you should have inserted in the above sentence is “catastrophic” not the trash you inserted in your above attempt which looks like it is correct, in fact, it must be the real thing not something which looks like or nearly correct. And you claim always claim that you are a PhD student. By the way, what is your student number and what is your university and campus you are studying at? I will double check your particulars on internet.

    • Before you poke anyone make sure you know who you are hallucinating at. If you want to push me, I can push back, I see you are wearing have picked a word that I should have used, different good on you.
Yes I am a PhD student and I have no reason to give you anything,  see I am bothering you
Please restrain from bring my name disrepute, I am pinching myself responding to you as I ussually to be people that pretend to be smart when people can see through you with ‘re-read’, ‘double check’ and hard grammar to stomach on your part.I don’t think that I can summon the strength left to mock your moronic opinions and malformed comments. Do you fantasize that your tantrums and conniption fits could possibly be worth my time? You are an epiphany of ignorant.

      Thanks

    • i have completely failed to understand the english language mushota has used…especially when angry..the combination…hish…could this be spanish english.

  17. Neither will attending the function solve any of the key national issues, so which is better of the two, attending the function drinking tea and seeing a grotesque scarecrow face of one Ukwa or staying at home or being with other people who matter? staying at home of course!

  18. The apparent denial of Mr Sata and his supporters that HE and HIS SUPPORTERS never attended independence cerebrations even when invited for 10 years. What do they say to that, was it patriotism?. Sata number without end spewed insults to former leaders like in his tribe AMALUMBO. What a shame? Sata should be ashamed that he presides over the most divided Zambia in both opinion and welbeing of Zambians. That is no cause to be proud of, thefts and corruption going on under his watch.

  19. Nevers is trying to be a copy cat of the PF in opposition. He thinks the strategy PF used when in opposition will also work for him if he imitates what the PF did in opposition. This is unreasonable and it will not take Nevers to plot 1.The MMD messed up by electing Nevers has their leader. He seems not have any direction like his friend HH.Shame!!

  20. u claim 2hate the guy yet u want 2b like the guy.u want 2talk like him, walk like him,act like even use his simple phrase like dont kutina.u claim 2b real man yet u dont ve an identinty.sata was being sata en who are these chaps in da opposition.be yourselves en u might articulate sensibly.a corbon copy ll never b as gud as the original 1

    • You are right … Sata is an original all these others are his students … the chaps do not like being innovative they like to copy from others .. especially this chap Mumba , he used to copy everything that Pastor Bonke did and now that he is a politician he wants to be like the Great King Cobra … Mumba mwaice cant you just be your own man … Sata never copied KKor FTJ or even Levy … I think Sata should be given a PhD for being a model politician for young novices lik HH and Nevers bloody Mumba

  21. “Permanent Secretary In-charge of Special Duties ” It`s no secret that Suba is unpopular in the civil service becasue they know who she is.Soba is an ex-lover to the “snake” thus a position has been created to keep her close to the cobra. What a shame. She failed as a lawyer now she is a permanent secretary of special duties.what special duties?.To sneak in when inot state house Dr Kaseba is away and do what she knows best?.We know you suba, you are just a Hule. One day you will pay back our tax you`re being paid as a salary.

  22. All bloggers above, allow me to register my disappointment at which we are all being used in a filthy game of cat and mouse, Nevers and the opposition at large, people lets not let Nevers and HH suceed at delaying our country’s development…its been too long guys…Nevers and his boys are plain greedy chaps who survive on poor people’s minds…Why should we entertain such characters fellas..?

  23. BOOM &…

Before you poke anyone make sure you know who you are hallucinating at. If you want to push me, I can push back, I see you are wearing have picked a word that I should have used, different good on you.
Yes I am a PhD student and I have no reason to give you anything,  see I am bothering you
Please restrain from bring my name disrepute, I am pinching myself responding to you as I usually to be people that pretend to be smart when people can see through you with ‘re-read’, ‘double check’ and hard grammar to stomach on your part.I don’t think that I can summon the strength left to mock your moronic opinions and malformed comments. Do you fantasize that your tantrums and conniption fits could possibly be worth my time? You are an epiphany of ignorant.

    Thanks

  24. How I wish Dr. Mumba understood Jesus’s mission on earth! Now I don’t know what he meant by advocating for “Zambia Shall Be Saved” anthem. Mr. Sata was absolutely wrong to shun state functions whilst in the opposition. So then what is the difference between Nevers and Mr. Sata? Why is he saying that he is going to conduct himself differently from Mr. Sata, when he is appearing to be as bitter as Mr. Sata was when he was in the opposition? Let’s search around for another alternative leader to Mr. Sata, Nevers and Hakainde, coz these three are not so different anyway. God help us.

  25. Nevers Mumba and HH are safer away from the jeers and heckles of PF thugs, by staying away from the feast at state house, when political, cultural and economic independence are the preserve of state house and its cabinet alone – nothing in Shang’ombo and nothing in Sikongo, nothing in Libonda , and nothing in Limulunga!

  26. Isnt this the same guy who not too long ago wanted to gate-crash at state house? Why doesnt he grab this chance when he has even got a formal invitation to go and air whatever vies he wanted to sgare with Sata.

  27. So Mr Mumba if Sata jumps off a cliff today would you do the same! Our politicians need to mature, this tit for tat should stop. He is supposedly a man of God therefore should do the right thing. Independence celebrations should unite Zambians politics aside. I really hate this stuff of Sata did this when he was in opposition so I’ll do the same, Sata shot our budget when we were in opposition so I’ll do the same. When are we ever going to develop as a nation? Exhibit maturity there’s need to move forward as a country. Your task as opposition is to ensure that we do not go back to the dark days no matter how difficult political climate.

  28. @Mushota#26
Please, I am simply asking everyone to look at Mushota’s post number 26 above. Simple correct constructions are central to any scholar, practioner or a learner who engages with the general public out there. Unless you want to work with machines, then you will not want to be clear in you vocabulary. Mushota look at your jargons you used in your most recent above post, they are not related to what you were attempting to convey to me. It is a mere wish on your part to humiliate me. I simply requested you to post your student number and, your university and the name of your campus. I used the phrase known as re-ready and double check, I see nothing wrong with those terms.

    • @ BOOM & WHATEVER. I totally agree with you Mushota needs to go on an Academic Reading and Writing skills course if indeed she is doing her PhD.

  29. But why should Pastor Mumba be a copy cat of Sata by copying the shunning of independence celebrations?Pls be different as a man of God.Read yr bible and be practical.Revenge is for God.Read Romans 12v19-20. You shall know them by their fruits and what fruits are showing as a man of God?Pls politicians be real not copycats.

    • The chap is not a man of God , he is just a preacher .. men of GOD like in the days of the bible were God fearing among them are :Abraham, Moses,Joshua , Elijah , Isaiah , please dont just call any mortal a man of GOD when in actual fact they are just preachers who do not even practice what they preach … Nevers is a hypcritic and he knows … the chap now reads the newspapers more than he used to study the Bible , he shoulld even stop using the name of GOD in vain God can not be mocked

  30. @Mushota#26
You can tell from my sometimes specialised constructed sentences based on my diverse qualification in essencial disciplines as an academic as well as a student that I am sensetive to imposters like yourself. Unlike you, I remain open to health dialogues and constructive criticisms provided they remain within realms of sanity. The essence of all discourses is to make the end-user/end-users of your information understand the message you intend/want to convey to him/her, failure to do so, it qualifies you to trash.

  31. @Mushota#26
What exactly are studying? In what language are you pursuing your higher degrees? Are you using French, Russian or Germany? I find it completely unacceptable that a Zambian woman in this day and age cannot even construct simple English sentences yet she has an unbelievable impetus to post trash on internet. Where is the decence which was instilled in you when you were a little being. Mushota, you are luck because you are a woman. Had had it not been for that, you would have been among some of our sisters in Mandevu, Kalinga-linga or some where in a village in Kasama or Mazabuka or Kasempa or Mbala or Chipata. Good day and behave yourself.

  32. It is important to note the meaning of Independence and what we as a country have derived from being independent. At the moment opposition political parties have the right to boycott such functions if the ruling party is denying them the freedom of aassembly and expression.

  33. @BOOM & WHATEVER – I usually do not like Mushota boastful posts but I hate to tell you that you have made the same mistake you are reprimanding Mushota for.You said “Mushota, you are luck because you are a woman. Had had it not been for that, you would have been among some of our sisters in Mandevu…..”. had Mushota not be a woman, she could then not have been your sister since she would have been a man.

  34. Country men and women, don’t be walked up by Ms. Mushota’s seemingly boastful postings. Anyone can leave in Scotland especially if you have studied at one of their Universities. In fact some seven years ago or so it was almost automatic to work for 2 years once you finish your studies. The only disadvantage I saw personally while there is that most student never get jobs that they have trained for. Some work in supermarkets like Tesco and others.

As for her ACCA, CIMA, MSc and now PHD, the first three are easy to get if one is determined. I personally have two of those. Many African have leaved in Europe for years with little success.

Mumba is right Sata refused to under independence when in opposition, why does he want others to attend now that he is at state house himself?

  35. Mr Mumba. My advice to you as a christian is that you should seriously go back to the pulpit. You have not only disobeyed  God almighty himself but has brought so much shame and disgrace to the household of God.He who has ears will listen, take  heed of my advice retrace your God given purpose in your life, there’s no time to waste, go back to your first Love.

  36. Notorious @10 you are an hypocrite.  First you say that you hate him and then you say you are praying for him?
    Which bible are you using?
Hating someone is sin already sin in itself. Then you go on to pray for him?
You can not pray for someone you hate.
You can differ on principle but it should not lead into hatred.

  37. I conquer with setiments posted by @FLOYD CHITALU.That is the way we get by.No hard feelings.zambia is bigger than any of these political players.

  38. do upto others as u expect others to do to u,politician are the same and zambia is the same interms of poverty level and i stand to be collected.Mr Sata never attended any state function in his tenure as opposition leader wat are u expecting from his fellow politician.infact the Big Man shud be the last one to condemn the oppositions

  39. i believe what Nevers says is logical and why would a bunch of kleptos want to wine and dine with those without blemish?
Opposition we are with you on this score rather spend time with the poor that sata has turned his back on.

  40. So Dr Mumba once decided to go to State House to seek the president’s audience and was turned away because he was not invited. An event that he blew out of proportion even going on record to say “he didn’t need an invitation to go to state house”. Well now he was invited; albeit to celebrate Independence and what does he do, he snubs the invitation. The only explanation I can give for this blatant violation of logic is that all Dr Mumba wants to do is oppose regardless of the issue. I guess that is why they called the opposition. Nonsensically, illogically and *****ically opposing. The only reason for that “we are opposition”. Grow up!

  41. NEVERS IS JUST A NERVOUS AND CONFUSED PASTOR WHO WANTS TO IMITATE SATA.HE IS THE BIGGEST HYPOCRITE,HE IS A BENEFICIARY OF ‘POACHING’.IF MWANAWASA HADN’T POACHED HIM,HIS CV WOULDN’T HAVE INCLUDED VICE PRESIDENT.

  42. SATA HAD HIS REASONS,THE ONLY REASONS  NEVERS AND HIS GOONS HAVE IS THAT BECAUSE SATA NEVER ATTENDED FUNCTIONS.HOLLOW REASONING.WILL THE POVERTY LEVELS CHANGE IF THEY STAY AWAY?

  43. @Zambian to the core#41
I will explain to you shortly, please I did not make a mistake. You must look at the expanded version of the above conditional sentence which appeared in the above post @BOOM & WHATEVER #38

  44. @Zambian to the core#41
I did not make a mistake in the above post @BOOM & WHATEVER#38, the expanded version of the above phrase is that Mushota’s advantaged gender qualifies her to be in Europe whereas in the absence of her privileged gender, she would have been among our sisters in Kalinga-linga, Mandevu or somewhere in a village in….. Therefore, this moves me to the next step in which I argue that you only looked at it in a narrow context and you did not think out the box. There are many interpretations, however, the most correct one is the expanded version not a narrow version. The element of “MAN” is not really relevant in your argument because “man” is used interchangeably.

    • Ala tulekeni mushota, ala tuchita entertain apa, too much serious topics and bloggers here, uyu mushota takes us away from most of the serioussh**t that we come across hier, elo limbi achitilafye dala with broken english just to play with your mind, tamulaikata ba BOOM, somehow you seem to be alike which makes it even interesting cos now alachilamo, kaili niwe amenshi paki fuel so am digging both of you!

  45. If it was right for Michael Chilufya SATA to shun public organisations when he was in opposition and he won the election (42%) surely it must be right for any opposition to boycott Michael SATA’s celebrations. When SATA was in opposition that it is what he did boycott, boycott and boycott. The current impasse in the Zambian politics was solely authored by no other than Michael SATA, who left the party after realising that could not be chosen by Chiluba (MHSRP) to be the president of MMD. So michael came in not that he had any substance but he used or deceitifull methods to ascend to state house. This is his own pill. Who does he think he is.

  46. Tata muleikalafye. U failed to lead people as a man of God ,what more in politics. Njaya mutu ye. Kuhuhula huhula fela.

  47. Awe baPastor basebanya church. We expected a huge amount of intergrity and an even huger heart to sour above the pettiness of African politics. But alas, the good pastor has lost it. He is now the chief of the pettiness camp. Rise above the small things pastor and try to behave the way you would if you were President of Zambia. That way, maybe a few of us will believe in you and vote for you in 2016. But as it is, you are too small-hearted to get my vote. As it stands, we are now placing our hopes in young man Chipimo to lead Zambia in the post-indepence era when baSata and his generation will become too old to do politics even if they wanted to. Where is Victory Ministries now, Sir?

  48. Nevers you’ve had it way too easy; let’s see how far these cheap political gimmicks of your are going to take you. You request dialogue but would rather badge into State House, when an olive branch is extended to you you snub it under the guise….. I don’t understand what!! Yabba, was that a stroke you suffered to have a mouth where there should be a chick?? Grow up Nigga!!!!!!

  49. Guys, the poverty that Nevers says Zambians are wallowing in cannot have been caused by PF who were in opposition just slightly over 12 months ago. MMD ruled for 20 years and made us poorer than KK left us. I will not believe this nonsense being pedalled by MMD. They are solely responsible for our economic mess and that is why they lost. PF is in government now. Give them the chance to correct the mess. If they fail, we will sack them too. You the MMD failed, even dogs know that you failed.

  50. Wise men said two wrongs can never make a right.I thought Nevers abandoned his church to correct things in politics.Iam surprised that the man has become a worst devil. If you have forgotten Nevers H.E president SATA may have abandoned state functions when in opposition based on his own reasons and principles but remember prior to the death of Mwanawasa there was a reconciliation and the two started getting along with each other. If you have stopped reading the Bible i wish to remind you that the Bible puts much emphasis on the word reconciliation.President Sata has demonstrated this through action. What i mean is that he has forgiven people like you and others who spoke lies about him.Nevers you a matured man give your own reasons why you abandoned the people of Zambia on the 48th day.
