ZP refutes reports on scraping of Housing allowances for police officers

Zambia Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela

Zambia Police Service Spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela has refuted reports suggesting that Government has withdrawn housing allowance for police officers across the country.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Ms. Kanjela described the reports as unfounded and misleading.

She said police officers accommodated in Police Camps are not entitled to housing allowance but those not residing in the camps.

She stated that the sentiments being peddled by some media houses are untrue and that they should be brushed aside.

Ms. Kanjela said the September and October payslips do not contain any changes to that effect.

She advised some people circulating this rumour to desist from doing so because it is un ethical and dangerous to mislead the public.

Recently some sections of the media alleged that government had withdrawn housing allowances from Police Officers across the country effective last month.

It was also alleged that Police officers have complained that their housing allowances were withdrawn without any explanations from the top command.

  1. JOURNALISM IN ZAMBIA LEAVES MUCH TO BE DESIRED, INDEED. EVEN IF IT’S DESPERATION, HATE AND BITTERNESS WITH THE SPONSORS, BUT NOT TO THIS LEVEL LYING. I HOPE IT IS AN ABSOLUTE LIE. OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE IMPRUDENT ON THE PART OF GRZ TO WITHDRAW HOUSING ALLOWANCES FROM POOR POLICE OFFICER WHO MAINLY LIVE IN POOR CONDITIONS IN GHETTOS.

  2. WatchDog is not a professional media house, they are not to be taken seriously. They are full of hatred and are very biased in their reporting.

    • I also did understand how they could have housing allowance when they live in police camps. It means they eat with both hands. Those who are not accomodated absolutely yes, they need that allowance and they also pay for electricity too. And thoz in camps don’t pay and abuse it.

  3. Can someone explain to us why there is so much gossip and rumor-mongering in Zed? I get amused even by the quality of unqualified news that comes out of that country at all levels. It is amazing.
