Mbesuma’s Prolific Form Continues

Share

Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma

Collins Mbesuma scored his fifth competitive goal of the season on Wednesday night for Orlando Pirates.

The Zambia striker was on target for Pirates in their 4-0 home win over Black Leopards in the Premiership.

Mbesuma put Pirates ahead in the 47th minute with a left footed volley before he was substituted 21 minutes later.

The goal was Mbesuma third in the Premiership since moving to Pirates this season from Golden Arrows.

Pirates win sees them shift to 23 points, four behind archrivals Kaiser Chiefs in second and first place respectively after 11 Premiership games played.

  1. Looking at this, here is my proposal.
Since Mbesuma is lethal when afforded space, Zambia must have a strategy to create this space. If Mbesuma is the main striker (visibly) , he will be tightly marked and we will need another lapse from the defence for him to score. We cannot approach the game like this. We need a system which creates this space.
One approach sould be to have another guy playing as the MAIN striker while Mbesuma lags behind. The focus of the defence would be on this LIVEWIRE of a striker and Mbesuma would be afforded breathing space. Zambia can then use this space to feed Mbesuma and the attacking midfielders to take a crack at goal. This way, Zambia will be UNSTOPPABLE. This striker needs to be one who is strong on the ball and able to cause the defence problems

  2. I saw the goal this morning, what a strike! Similar to the one he scored against Bafana. Mbesuma has talent and he has shamed his crictics…. Lets go Collins!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. He sure wants to play at Afcon. As soon as he is named in the team its like he has achieved what he wanted and form just disappears

  4. #5 Kabanda Lusanga All that a striker of Mbesuma’s calibre requires is a square pass and he can do wonders with the ball. He cant run into spaces, but he good on the ball. The midfield should be able to provide such balls.

  5. A replica goal of the one he scored against South africa.Keep up the good work.We need to defend Afcon.Renard’s problem is the starting eleven. For advice Mr coach simply build the team around him and your job will be simplified.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  6. Chalibabika mailo yaba! Nishoti chafumishe!! But the coach substituted him in the 70 something minute and he looked very dissapointed when going off because he had been contributing very well to the attack and he was very energetic.
#5 Kabanda Lusanga waliishiba bwino game. The only problem will be Mayuka whose style might not suit playing as a striker because he loves playing as attacking midfielder .

  7. i see a lot of pontential in Zambian players now. Kalaba should supply balls from midleft and mutale mulenga mid right while mesuma and jacob do the damaging in front. Katongo should just be running around for opposition diffenders to lose focus. cant wait

  8. That’s what I know about Mbesuma…….he is very effective when used as a free man (playing a free role) rather than puting him as the main striker. At the AFCON he should be used like that then you will be assured of the damage he will cause to the Ethiopian defence.
About the Zambian formation, I feel the 4-3-3 formation/system is not good for Zambia, I would prefer the 4-4-1-1 which Zambia employed against Senegal as a very good system. Katongo was playing behind Mayuka upfront. Go Mbesuma mwaiche wandi twabalasa ba Nigeria uko mwapya twaisa…………….

  9. Yes we look fine at the moment, but i hope complacency & big headedness creeps into our players heads. I hope he doesn’t run back to Mpatamatu during xmas for shake shake……. Otherwise he’s very talented & looking sharp, all the best Chipolopolo forever.

  10. @ dido.yes let bbc player of the year katongo just b running about then mbesuma walking about eighteen area, mwene standing about in goal. All other players shud b looking about for the ball.Herve shud b shouting about 4 the ball.i bet we’ll re-bring the cup !

  11. @ dido.now that katongo will be running around our job is to wish he collide with the ball and it goes into the net and no one else scores.1-0.

  12. He! He! He! I know what Dido means: You can give a midfielder a free role (like what Sir Zoom did to Kalusha at the Seoul olympics) so that he roams the whole field and you build your attacks throu him.
