Vice President Guy Scott says government through the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Public Private partnership is in the process of setting up an industrial development Commission.
Dr. Scott says the industrial development commission will be response for upgrading the industrial structures for increased economic growth.
He has added that the government has realized that the country has a backlog of development arrears and that it is for this reason that government is relentlessly trying to implement programmes aimed at creating jobs so as to reduce the poverty levels.
Dr. Scott was speaking when he officiated on behalf of President Michael Sata at the Zambia International Business Advisory Council (ZIBAC) meeting in Lusaka today.
And Dr. Scott says President Sata will give the Bank of Zambia and the ministry of Finance a limited timeframe to reduce the interest rates stating that high interest rates continue to hinder economic growth.
Dr. Scott further added that in the last one year that the PF has been in government, it has learnt that resource misdirection has been high due to deep rooted corruption in the public sector.
The Vice President however indicated that the PF government will continue to implement measures aimed eradicating graft in the country.

No doubt veep. Establishing the Industrial Development Commission is the way to go. For the past 20 years our country’s industrial base has been eroded, hence the increase in unemployment and poverty. We need an institution that can identify and initiate industrial development. Merging the ZDA and PPP unit is certainly the way to go. President Sata announced this during the opening of parliament and its good that veep has given an update of the process. Viva PF

2. Set up ‘sting’ operations.
3. Set up anti corruption courts in which after the pattern of European courts

Zambia is perceived more favorable after being associated with white people, ie David Livingstone who discovered Livingstone single handed. Remember most of the buildings are dilapited and for all we know Zambia was a beautiful country pre colonial. Tell Nick it is amazing that Livingstone discovered a town that didn’t exist until years after his death. You missed the European guy who drew a map of the falls before Livingstone ever set eyes on it. Basically it is fascinating to have been moved away from huts by the river and natural spas sipping fresh fruit juices and eating steaks to be replaced by $1000 a night huts by the river where one can sip fruit juices and eat great steaks. Corruption is indeed deep rooted in the civil service. My recent experience at the passport office in Lusaka involving a very senior officer was dreadful. I pray that my report to the ACC will be taken seriously so that the rotten eggs can be flushed out. The problem in Zambia is that penalties for such offences are not stiff and corrupt people always get away with it.

The quickest way to stump out graft is to start afresh with brand new members of the civil service and a new way of doing govt business. Inheriting a rotten system and hoping to somehow reform it is impractical. Hiring the same rotten eggs who were part of a failed govt and expecting them to operate above board and become incorruptible is just insane. It won’t work. Do something drastic.

Yet another promise. I thought this timeframe should have been given a year ago. This explains why interests are not coming down. So when will the president give this timeframe and most importantly how interest rates will be brought down
