Mbala farmers complain over delayed Fertilizer distribution

Over two hundred farmers in Mbala have not yet received their fertilizer for this year’s farming season.

The farmers who stormed ZANIS office this morning complained that their crops which have reached the stage of applying top dressing fertilizer will go to waste.

The visibly annoyed farmers said they had wasted a lot of money on transport coming to the boma with the view of collecting the fertilizer from Nyiombo Investment depots.

The farmers lamented that promises by Nyiombo Investment officials to give them the farming inputs have yielded no results.

They also said some farmers have only received urea without D. Compound fertilizer.

The Farmers are now appealing to government to intervene in the matter to avert wastage of crops and resources they spent on cultivation.

Efforts to get the comment from the District agriculture Co-coordinator failed by press time.

  1. Its not only in Mbala, even in Kasama and Mungwi districts some co-operatives have not yet recieved the fertiliser (both D Comp. & Urea) despite having planted maize end November and early december. No wonder the poor yields being experienced by farmers. Ministry of Agric. and Livestock cannot tell farmers what is causing the delay. “Every thing can wait but agricultural does not wait.” J.Nehru. MAL do your homework please

  2. How do you expect a man with 7 guns, to prioritize farming? His only concern and interest lie in Police Persecution of Political Enemies ( in his head) and infringing the rights of freedom of expression and assembly.

  3. Please Zambians just forget about Agriculture development as long as Sata is in power. This is one common thing he shares with the Chinsali man KK and Chiluba. I dont want to speculate but there’s a certain reason for this. Why did Agriculture only prosper under Levy and RB? The mind boggles!

  4. I am sure that PF has spent all the money on bye-elctions, leaving farmers without inputs. In the next few years, we will start begging for maize from poorer countries. Zambia, wake up. Ciza uli

  5. WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING ?YOU VOTED WITH YOUR LEGS,SO ENJOY AND STARVE NEXT YEAR.BITTER LESSON TO LEARN.

  6. You Mbala residents should be the last to complain. You were saying that Sata will change things. For sure you are experiencing the change. As long as people who do not understand farming are put as presidents you farmers will continue suffering. HH your fellow farmer was asking for your vote but you decided to give it to a hunter with 7 guns. go and borrow guns and apply as fertilizer.
All I’m saying is that next time vote for serious people not this joker who has no direction.

  7. It’s about time likely to be some uninteresting aged write-up, but it surely compensated with regard to my time. I am going to write-up a link to the web site on my small website. I am certain this site website visitors will discover in which very helpful.
