The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set Tuesday, 23 April, 2013 as the date for the Kapiri Mposhi and Lukulu West Constituencies parliamentary by elections and local government by elections in various wards.

This is according to a statement made available to ZANIS by ECZ Public Relations Manager Chris Akufuna.

This follows the nullification of the election of Lawrence Zimba, Member of Parliament for Kapiri Mposhi Constituency, and Misheck Mutelo, Member of Parliament for Lukulu West Constituency by the Supreme Court on 30th January, 2013.

Mr. Akufuna explained that the vacancies in the four wards were due to resignations and deaths.

He said Aspiring Candidates should lodge in completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers subscribed before a magistrate, Local court Magistrate, Head of a government Primary or Secondary School, College Principal, Commissioner of Oaths , Election Officer or Returning Officer on 28th March 2013 between 09:00 and 15:00 hours.

Mr. Akufuna also disclosed that voter registration at the ECZ Voter Registration Centre in the Lusaka Show grounds has been suspended until after the by elections.

  2. This is what has kept the Zambian politicians busy; looking for an opportunity to get allowances as campaign teams. I just hope one of these days sanity will return to our political arena.
From LILONGWE to Lukulu. Unfortunately these Lozis will be shot. When they say ‘ENI’ fire and when they say ‘NISHA” fire with machine guns. Since our soldiers are poorly trained, they have failed to even manage to kill one Lozi yet they keep saying ‘NISHA’, insulting the head of State and Command In-Chief of Zambian Toy Soldiers.

  3. imwe, what is all this by election nonsense? It amounts to sheer greed – do these MP’s not have a conscience – do they have a heart for the millions of utterly poor Zambian’s?
it is abundantly clear now that Zambian MP’s are in it for personal gain as oppossed to serving the people. I sincerely hope that all MP’s who behave deliberately are not re-elected. This is total disrespect for the electorate.

  4. lunatics have taken up the reigns of the country..we can’t afford to be having by elections every month..cursed are the ones that defect due their selfishness…

  5. We need more byelections even at presidential level, cos. by election time govt develops those affected areas to win the seat
