Western Province Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Mwamba, says government has recognized Western Province as the poorest in the country and was taking comprehensive development to the area.
Mr.Mwamba says government was taking a comprehensive approach to build infrastructure that was far apart such as health centres, schools, roads that were non-existent, inadequate water supply and electricity power supply in Kalabo district and Western Province as a whole.

Mr.Mwamba explains that government was doing everything possible in the province in order to bring development to the people and reduce the high poverty levels in the area.

He stresses that by taking infrastructural development closer to the people, communities that were isolated would have health centres, schools and roads among others in the area.

The Permanent Secretary also adds that due to high incidences of malaria in western province, government has procured 800,000 mosquito nets to help combat the killer disease and appealed to the people to put to good use and not abuse the nets for fishing.

Mr.Mwamba further explains that government has also taken action on diseases that had no attention such as cervical cancer by introducing screening to detect early infection that could easily be treated before it was too late to avoid loss of lives.

  1. Pity western province still believes in Satanomics. Trable is one of their own believes in ‘More money in your pockets’ deception. Its time western province make a stand who to throw their voting power in the next election. PF govt has deceived western province more than any part of Zambia. This may suggest the reason the State of Emergence still in force in this part of Zambia as pre occupation of security can not go in tindem with development.

  2. Came to know that 12 years ago when i started work… Nothing new, the question is what dev projects are you putting in place to accelerate development?

  3. There’s a connection between the agitation for Barotse independence and the general neglect of infrastructure development by successive Zambian govts. All that the first government did was to tarmac the Mongu-Lusaka road in 1972. After that all was forgotten. The only thing that survived were the empty promises for more infrastructure development. Throughout the 70s, 80s, people were promised the Mongu-kalabo road, the mongu-Lukulu road, senanga sesheke rd. New hospitals to replace the colonial era ramshackles. But these things never came to pass. And it was only after the recent agitation that the RB and Sata govts are all over the place promising things that should have been built a long time ago.

    • Strange analysis. I think the tenure of Levy Mwanawasa was one of the most productive for Western Province, then and ever.

    • But Mwanawasa started the Mongu-Kalabo Road and the Senanaga-Sesheke Road is done, its only a bridge reamining to connect the roads on either side of the Zambezi.

    • You have your wires crossed. Levy Mwanawasa did the Sesheke-Livingstone Road including the Katima Mulio Bridge with the help of a Germany Grant who wanted to open up the Walvis Bay trade route and port of their former ‘colony’. Levy also tried to do the Mongu-Kalabo road in 2004 on the cheap and it was a disaster. A Kuwaiti company was tasked to build the road at a cost of $24m loan from Kuwait. It was a mess. A new design was made but there was no money.

    • Levy should also be credited with getting the Danish to resurface the Lusaka-Mongu road at a cost of $30m. The road had literally been eroded from about the mid 80s. It was also the Danes who did the design of the Senanga-Sesheke road and of the bridge over the Zambezi at Sioma. The Danish agreed to fund half the project and the Zambian government to raise the other half. The Zambian govt failed. Then enter Linyungandambo. The shootings! And RB instructs Musokotwane to do his utter most to raise money for the Mongu-kalabo and Sesheke-Senanga projects. He managed with SADB, The Saudis and ADB. Since plans were already there, the Chinese were quickly assembled to quickly start the projects in June 2011. And it was done!
