MMD Muchinga member of Parliament Howard Kunda says he can only defect to the Patriotic Front (PF) if the ruling party offered him the number two job in the country—the vice presidency currently held by Guy Scott.
Mr Kunda said anything short of that, especially a deputy ministerial position, would not compel him to ditch the party his late father George Kunda served until his death in April last year after an illness.
“If they really want me, they should give me the vice presidency,” Mr Kunda said.
“If it is vice presidency, yes, because I know that if anything happens, I will be President of this country.”
Mr Kunda’s “intentions” were aired on a clip recorded for the Hot FM breakfast show and it drew lots of mixed reactions from listners who called the radio station.
Mr Kunda said he could never serve as a deputy minister because his father had raised the bar above that level having served as a Vice President and that he (Howard) can only continue from where his late father ended.
“If they wanted me, that is what I have been telling them, they should give me the vice presidency, not deputy minister. It is something that I will not go for because I have passed that level of deputy minister,” he said.
Mr Kunda said as Vice President, he could also get an occasional opportunity to act as President whenever the President is out of the county on national duties.
“I was told that I was going to be a deputy minister in the Office of Vice-President. When you look at deputy minister of Office of the Vice-President, how can I carry on the legacy of my late father?” he wondered.
Mr Kunda went further to accuse some PF officials of inciting councillors to resign from the MMD and join the ruling party.
He also urged parliamentarians in opposition to continue providing checks and balances on Government to ensure good governance and development in the country.
PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba could not immediately be reached for a comment, neither could the Chief Government spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni, as they were in Parliament.
Really, from your statement Mr. Kunda you seem not to know what you are doing. So sons take over the positions of their fathers. His father was also Minister of Justice, did he even consider that. From the statement it seems Mr. Kunda plans to move to the PF. It is just a matter of time. I see lack of principles, here.

Howard Kunda has just exposed his lack of principles and integrity. If he can sell is soul to the PF at the right price, what makes you so confident he won’t sell the Country if the price is right?
Sometimes i wonder if most the bloggers on Lusaka Times ever did “comprehension” . Kunda in my view is acting big, telling government i can not be bought with your cheap Deputy Ministerial fimo,fimo,- if i am going to resign let it be for something Big and there is nothing wrong with that! Howard you may have the kunda blood flowing in your veins however i will appreciate it if you begining to realise that you can never be George Kunda even when you choose to change your name from Howard to George Kunda the reason is simply you are two different persons with different reasoning capability therefore I will not encourage you to defector to the PF but rather ask you to be the best you can be without considering yourself to the level of of your father as you cant be him.

Men of principles don’t ever sell out their convictions for the sake of position or comforts.Mandela never sold his beliefs for freedom and MLK died for his convictions.In fact Ben Franklin once said “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”. I think the Kunda family are obssessed with Veep post. Remember how GK (mhsrip) hated Guy Scott and used to critisise everything about GS. So the son has taken the mantle. All I know is that Howard is a grad 12 pupil who is being kept by his wife who is a lawyer and board secretary of a company in Ndola.

This is the quality of MPs in the opposition. And yet you want to blame PF for by-elections when clearly it is the greed and poor quality of your MPs that you should be addressing! I don’t know where this palooka got the idea that because his father was Vice President, his should be Vice President! If his father had set the bar for the family, this rodent should therefore have demanded that MMD make him Vice President instead of settling for MUchinga MP!
Howard has become big headed because of the sympathy vote he got in Muchinga. His father was brought to parliament through nomination by Levy, If he had any clout in politics he should have stood on any constituency in the country. His father died of depression because he missed being a Vice president, this Kunda clan should never be allowed to reach top positions because his dictatorial tendencies are coming out when he is just a mere MP! Given any chance, he can turn the country into a monarch dictatorship so that his children can inherit his position.
