A woman in Kitwe has accused police officers at Chimwemwe police post of severely beating her and inflicting wounds on her face and other parts of the body. This comes in the wake of revelations by the Human Rights Commission of the levels of ignorance of the law shown by some Police officers who believe they have the right to beat the suspects.

Beauty Musonda 42 of Chimwemwe Township, who sustained a swollen eye and injuries on her face and body, said she was beaten by the officers after she resisted to be detained at the police cells on August 16.

Ms Musonda said that on August 16, this year, she went to a nearby drinking place and that after taking one beer, she decided to sleep on the bench because she was not feeling well. She said she was awaken by a bar lady who asked her to leave the bar because she wanted to close the premises.

Ms Musonda said she noticed that her purse was missing and upon enquiring on the whereabouts of her purse, a quarrel ensued and in the process the bar lady’s blouse was torn.

She was then picked by three police officers and when she refused to be detained because she was not aware of the offence that she had committed, the officers started beating her and kicked her in the chest.

“I was beaten and kicked in the chest, I bled the whole night without the officers being concerned,” she said.

Ms Musonda said she was released the following day and was shocked that the police report indicated that she had fallen from a wall.

But Acting Copperbelt police commissioner Joyce Kasosa said she had not received the report and was not aware of the circumstances of the case.

  1. Very sad.The cops should also face the wrath of the law.I hate it when the police break laws which they are supposed to protect in the first place.

  2. The problem is the police are the very criminals in Zambia. If we as the citizenry are not protected by the police, then who is going to protect us? Criminals are walking scot free whereby the innocent are brutalised by the so-called police.
In fact police should not be beating the suspect or even the accused. Thats I say in Zambia there is no law. That country is lawless. Only the rich and corrupt survive in Zambia. Ba musungwa na Lesa ba Zambia.

    • Ba Kitwean tamwakwata bongobongo the 42 yr great harlot Beauty Musonda was carelessly drunk to recall that she fell or was beaten by the bar lady therefore her detention by police meant to protect her.

    • @MUSHOTA, niwe ushakwata bongobongo we ule wee! Surely you cant get the sense of of what Kitwean is saying. We ndoshi iwe.

    • Beauty Musonda the harlot should be thankfull for the protection she received.surely how can sme1 who is not feeling well visit a drinking place? It should have been very late the time bar closes meaning she was very drunk and lost the sense of direction. What lesson to this so called uule Beauty and viva to ba buju to protect her bcoz this time ngatulechika ku chamboli cemetery.Walipusuka stan on yr ku.

    • Whats wrong with the people using the name Mushota kanshi? it’s like the moment they dress themselves with this name, the medular flies out the window! Who in the their right manner of consciousness would utter such to KItwean?
No matter how stupid the woman in their custody might have appeared, thay should have taken care of the situation and her like real officers, their rights should be read after the inverstigation is completed and be suspended, infact pay Beauty for causing bodily harm as well as emotional pain, but i doubt anything fruitfull will come out of it, illitrate police plus shanty compound is equal to null.

    • We the people of Zambia must rise against Police brutality if it was to end, just like we must demand better from govt that we currently get.

What has happened in Livingstone, the clean up, the rapid improvement in infrastructure etc goes to show that we have resources that can improve our country if properly utilized. we have shown that with dedication we can change the face of our country for the better.

The onus is on us as citizens to rise up, get involved and demand better services and not just accept any mediocre services thrown at us

Its time we changed our mindset

  3. Bali kuchenjesha makaka surely how do you sleep in a drinking place?Ati you were not feeling well niboza you were just drunk and raped for free we ****we.I hope its a big lesson at the age of 42 you are failing to look after yourself.Shame.Do not just keep on blaming ba buju they did well to protect you by detaining you otherwise you would have been murdered by thugs.viva viva police under MCS.

  4. Immoral thugs, would the do that to their own mother? Answer is yes. They seem to think that their uniform gives them the same powers as the president, useless jerks. They need to go to school and learn manners and respect.

  5. “Ms Musonda said that on August 16, this year, she went to a nearby drinking place and that after taking one beer, she decided to sleep on the bench because she was not feeling well.“ … she was dizzy!!! after drinking ONE beer if you are not feeling well you home and sleep or you go the nearest clinic there in chimwemwe, you dont sleep a bar

However the police had/have no right to assult and abuse her!!

  6. Chiliulefye bane that time bar closes that is loitering.Reserve your energy on something sensible other than discussing the HARLOT.

  7. Under whatever circumstances, nobody shud be brutalised by the Zambia Police FORCE becoz that is against the law of the land. It seems that the only thing these policemen can do properly is collecting money pa ATM yapa road (Road Block).

  8. this story is making head and tail, she went to the bar and had one beer, and because she wasn’t feeling too well decided to sleep on the bench. why take a beer when you are unwell. secondly most bars usually close towards midnight, This mostly depends on the type of licence you pay for at council. and for the bar lady to decide to close it must have been late in the night. so where was she all this time?

  9. The whole story is based on Miss Musonda’s narrative. What do the police have to say for themselves? Is it true that Miss Musonda’s wounds were a result of police brutallity or were they the results of the fight with the bar maid? Is there an independent witness who can attest to the origin of Miss Musonda’s wounds? Before we judge the police and accuse them of wrong doing let these questions be answered.
