We are not Zambians, we belong to Barotse State, Mongu treason accused tell court

Share

Some of the 59 Baroste activists who have now been charged with treason surprised the Mongu magistrate’s courts when they applied to have their citizenship changed on their details before court claiming they are not Zambians as they belong to another State (Barotse).

The activists who are have no legal representation and appeared for mention, told the court that they wanted their citizenship details on court records changed because they were “foreigners” as they hail from a different State.

The activists appeared in different Mongu courts before different magistrates for mention while waiting for instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to have them committed to the High Court where their case is triable.

Those from Mongu were 10, Senanga nine, Sesheke four and 36 were from Kalabo. The State earlier applied to have the charge of seditious practices substituted with a new charge of treason which the court granted.

The activists later applied to the courts to have their citizenship changed claiming there were not Zambians but belonged to another State of Barotse.

The State objected to the application saying the accused were appearing in court on a charge of treason and not the issue of citizenship.

The magistrates adjourned the case to September 17, 2013 when the accused would appear for another mention and possible committal of the matter to the High Court for trial.

On August 14, this year, the purported Linyunga Ndambo chairperson, Afumba Mombotwa was alleged to have circulated a video showing him being sworn-in as administrator general of Barotseland.

The purported swearing-in video which was shot in Sioma was made available on the Internet blog sites, the Barotse Post and Barotse Radio on August 15.

Western Province Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Mwamba later suspended four civil servants who were involved in recent Barotse Agreement protests.

The Registrar of Societies in a statement issued by Ministry of Home Affairs public relations officer, Moses Suwali, denounced the Linyunga Ndambo Association for pursuing what he said was a “criminal agenda and acts inimical to national security.”

Chief Registrar of Societies Kakoma Kanganja stated categorically that the association was illegal as it was not registered with his office and any attempts to register the group would not be condoned.

  1. Identity crisis. They dont even know what they are talking about. But they may have a point. Maybe the should be left to self governance. May be.

    • Why is it that the people who are resisting the revolution the most are Bemba’s. If you look across the tapestry of these blogs below, you will notice that Bemba’s and not Tonga’s, or Tumbuka’s are in the forefront of resisting this revolution. Could it be because they are the ones who stand to lose the most. If western province had a military base, this would have made this equation a lot more interesting. Those of us on the outside must arm ourselves and go and rescue our brothers and sisters who are being enslaved by the neighboring Zambian government. Satan is Ruthless!!
      Muske mwasaba!!

  2. I can smell some big fish behind this, this is high time the president adressed those people with dignity. Don’t take this matter lightly Mr Sata.

    • I agree with you. The problem is the secessionist movement has become very well organised and have legal minds working on the session process. It is just a matter of time before the UN steps in and start hearing their case. Eventually the UN will order a referendum and that will see the Barotseland separating from Zambia. This is just a matter of time.

    • Looking at the reasons they are giving for separation from Zambia, I don’t see them go through. Someone wants to benefit through the innocent.
The days of divisions are long gone. Why should someone advocate for freedom whilst others are crying for unity?
Just think and seek wisdom from above. May the wise finish this issue wisely and not politically.
      GOD BLESS MOTHER ZAMBIA

  3. But, really, how do those people continue to be Zambians when the purported Union treaty that should have guaranteed their Zambian citizenship has been abrogated by the Zambian authorities?

They revert to their original status, us Barotses!

  4. It’s very interesting that the issue of BRE has continued even in the government of PF who condemned and illegally pardoned the similar group of activists under the MMD regime. The PF regime will now act appropriately since they have felt the pitching pain of this an unjustified sabotage. We shouldn’t allow this to continue any more. Arrest anyone championing succession.

    • doesn’t work very well! That’s Hitler’s method. The best is to address it by standing aside and taking a good look, rather than regarding them as ernemies of the state. What I see is just some very down-troden people crying for help. If you have been to Western Province, you will see that the place is GROSSLY under-developed. Consider Senanga, Sesheke, Kalabo, Kaoma, Lukulu (omg) & Shangombo. These places are basically cut-off the rest of the country, it’s Jungle Land.

If the state dialogued with the people of Western Province and worked (not promised) with them to make people’s lives a bit easy, I do think we would even be talking about this problem. Zambia Police isd RUTHLESS, so for someone to do wha these campaigners are doing, tells you they have recahed breaking point!

    • The reason western province is under developed is because it is very difficult for anyone who is not lozi to get land.

  5. These people are just becoming too stupi..dy. Please give them maximum sentence. They think you as court of law are joking. We are now tired of their dullness.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  6. They even have NRCs but yet claim to be foreigners. There sisters are married to Chewas,Bembas,Kaondes,Namwangas etc. There brothers and sisters are working for the government of the day.Who has fed these *****s with madness?

    • Marriage and NRC are not a reasons enough naimwe…………mathani has an NRC while kalaki is married to namwanga…..what difference does it make?

    • Don’t we have zambians married to South Africans? The issue at hand is why GRZ abrogated the agreement. Lozis have every right to seek secession and it is a futile exercise for the Zambian govt to deny them their right. Examples are bound where several states have become independent and the BA64 is a piece of cake for the UN to decide. Thank God that KK the culprit is alive.

  7. Its very gratifying to see our freedom fighters tell off the oppressor (Zambia of Kolwestan Sata United nations world tour Organisation) even at there deathbeds. Indeed our country Barotseland shall be free. We are appealing to the international community to help us with fire arms so that we can sort out these irresponsible monkeys from Zambia.

    • @MundiaM , There you go … Another monkey calling a fellow monkey a monkey!
You don’t even have half the balls the people you’re cowardly hiding behind have. They gat iron balls, standing before a magistrate, asking for reversal of their citizenship, very admirable. Respect is due to such people who fight to the death for whatever they believe in no matter how wrong it may be. You on the other hand remains useless to humanity; promoting the racist epithet ‘monkey’ every non-black person calls a black human like your sorry self.

    • CAN YOU PLEASE TELL US THE BOUNDARIES OF BAROTSELAND?IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT SEPARATING FROM ZAMBIA PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU PUBLISH THE MAP OF BAROTSELAND SO THAT WE KNOW THE AREA YOU ARE CLAIMING TO BE BAROTSELAND.BE BRAVE AND PULISH THE MAP AS A MATTER OF URGENCY!! ALL THOSE LOZIS WHO ARE WORKING IN OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY AND WHO SUPPORT SECESSION MUST ALSO RESIGN,PARK THEIR BAGS AND GO BACK TO MONGU.AFTER THIS LETS SEE HOW THE LIYUNGA NDAMBO WILL CREATE JOBS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL LOZIS WORKING ELSEWHERE IN ZAMBIA!!!

    • @ MundiaM and Ilukena you guys should realise that you are being useful *****s!!…you will continue been used and eventually you will die!! the pipo sponserring you guys are sitting confirtably wherever they are and they will continue living like that!…

    • Barotseland lies in 6 countries, the largest being in Zambia. Why are the lozis insitent on only getting this part of Barotseland? why not claim the other lands? Until that happens we will not entertain this sutting off stuff.

  8. @MundiaM, remember blood will spil on both sides. War is easier begun than ended. There is a better way of solving this. 90 percent of Lozis have invested in zambia not your barotse, why? Its because they are Zambians. Coming to the issue of MONKEYS, how about you are you a monkey too? Debate with sense.

    • @chota,

How would you feel your family perishes for an agreement that was entered voluntarily? I am telling you that 99.9% of Lozis want independence. I am not speaking for the crossbreed Lozi – Bembas children whom i may not hesitate to call cockroaches if they block our independence and or agree and then bring thievery to our land, the Royal Kingdom of the Barotseland. We shall expel them from our country like the United Republic of Tanzania has done to those Rwandans. A Bemba is the Kolwestan i am talking about here, I am Lozi and will never be a Kolwestan. Bulozi ki nako.

    • MundiaM no name calling. Just debate peacefully. As for the Barotse issue, the Zambian Govt must be careful. A revolution cannot be squashed by force, unless you wipe off it’s inhabitants. The Barotse issue requires seriousness. The people have the right, but may be resorting to unlawful means because people just dismiss the issue with a finger, saying just arrest them.

Look at the root casue, show some empathy, and the people will listen. Look at Earsten Europe and former USSR, alot of blood spilt nad today there are so many new countries. This matter needs serious attention from the top.

  9. Its a shame how you think WAR is something to be taken lightly…its a shame because a certain kingdom was a protectorate of the same pipo who enslaved and colonized us and that is what is still being used as your point.I know the govt hasn’t done enough to develop this country but what is being called for will only benefit a few in western province. I would have only agreed if lozi were not allowed in the army, govt private sector etc. but they are all over and have inter married and have friends and relatives from all parts of the country. let’s b honest with ourselves the only place developed is lusaka the rest of the country is still bush, Decentralization is the answer..

  10. lozi guys are very dull.instead of going through the agreement and understand the contents,ba byetukabyetuka chabe.barotseland is a very big isue of which even thoz whu r trying 2 spear head it they will run away leaving barotseland.that is.1 interms of boards, mind u thoz minerals it will be very difficult 2 shear them.

    • Why characterise every Lozi as being dull? What happenned to being objective. I wish it was possible to see some of you, you could benefit from a well delivered beating!

Reading your comment, I am extremely sure I am far more inteligent than you waste of skin, brainless and illmannered person.

I do not judge people by tribe, that’s being dull, from all tribes comes intelligent and dull (example you) people.

Stay away from a Computer, you are an example a of how dangerous a mouse and keyboard is, in the hands of a dull person. Your comment is grossly unfair, I am not dull, and I DO NOT support the Barotse activists, yet I am Lozi, and not supporting is not the issue, I do not support what they are doing for personal reasons.

      Take back your offensive comment.

  11. President Sata sort out these problems you created, you said you would honor Barotse deal in 90 days otherwise I am correct to say you are the largest JOKE of a president Northern Rhodeasia aka Zambia as ever had. Barotseland will be free oneday!

    • Wa puma fela? ki wena Munyukunyuku. Lozis are good people, and there are so many scatered all over Zambia, in various towns where they have invested. How do you insult a Bemba who is not even your neighbour. Yes go ahead and be independent, from the way you talk, you do not even know the boundary of Barotse land. you just think of Western Province as the world, we shall buy sand from you and Cashew nuts.

  13. Take them to chinama, they are in their own world they have no idea who they are and what they are saying, after a year in that mental institution take them back to court, if they repeat the same statement, Mukobeko calling charged for treason!

  14. My greatest appeal to the Govt is to leave and free them like in sudan. What is the fear just give them what they want kwasila.

    • So you think we just let people break away from the motherland just like that?….you think Zambia is a farm?…Be serious dude!

    • If you are really a true son of Barosteland, stop hiding behind a blog name in the UK. Go and join the real sons of Barosteland who are risking their lives back home to fight for what they believe in. Personally I think there are some powerful and selfish people who are behind this. They will keep quiet if they get what they want. And by the way it is not ‘Aruta continua’ but ‘Aluta continua’ .

  15. Sata auctioned our celebrated unity in diversity, integrity and peace on Barotse stock exchange in 2011 in his cunning and desperate push for state house…noe he is mauless and sleepless if not breathless…state house has proved too much for his age health…prophecy for secessionists-bitter civil war will break out soon after being granted independence among various tribes of the so-called Barotseland…!

  16. There was once a soviet socialist republic of Russia, can any one tell me what happened to it? Taiwan, Eritrea, recently one Sudan became two. This is a reaction of people feeling to be cheated. The best is to have an audience on this once and for all. Sata honer your promises

    • But still Two Germans became one, after realizing that the people were actually one.
America has many states, each with her own laws but well integrated to one another making a great nation. we can do it

    • @16.1 Vota card.
Good point! But it is very clear that so far, we have lamentably failed to realize that we are one the way the Germans did. This applies to all the Barotse activists and the Government of Zambia and the Zambian populace. This is why this issue has reached these dangerous levels where Govt is just arresting and torturing activists; the activists openly rejecting the Zambian citizenship boldly, fearlessly and uncaringly; and bloggers, taking sides of either Zambia or Barotseland, and here insulting and demeaning each other mercilessly and ungodly. I wonder if this is still that ONE ZAMBIA which was a ONE NATION. May God preserve us by His mercies.

  17. It’s funny that some Zambians call others as monkeys when as far as a white man is concerned every black person is a monkey! In Italy, spain and other racist countries football fans do monkey chants or throw bananas on the pitch when they see a black football player in the opposing team. This is a typical case of the kettle calling the pot black! Awe mwandi Ba Kolwe basekane fipato! Lol.

    • Mutale we Mwana wa Mfumu Chinshi imitula tula fye ingala tutukila. Kwa chikwanda ifwe taba tutuka pantu kumwesu ifilyo nimbwe. Amale, imbalala amataba ifipushi, ama nkolobwe, ifibimbi. We Mwana wa mfumu Chikwanda.. napela

  18. Are these not the same guys that a certain hibernator at state house released soon after taking the oath of office?

  19. I entirely agree with you my brother “What a life”. They have done the following after all:

    (1) They have their MPS in the Zambian parliament whom they voted for and have been voting for.

    (2) What will happen to these law makers they have been voting for in parliament? Are they part of Zambia?

    (3) Why are these law makers in the Zambian parliament silent?

    (4) By them voting for these law makers in parliament implies that they have agreed and have always been part of Zambians.

    (5) Can people like Milupi say something on this issue. Why should he be silent and yet he wants to recruit members to his party from across zambia. Be careful with people like this man.

    • Sinyinda was minister in RB’s administration. He became militant when MMD was defeated in the last general elections.

Akashambatwa and his sister, royal blood, have been vying for the Zambian top chair for a while.

KK did not abrogate the BA64, alone. The Litunga himself was part of the process. He accepted a seat on UNIP Central Committee and so did several other notable Lozi, remember? Why is that nobody wants to face these facts? If it was that important, was was it litigated at the time?

In short, apamwamba continue to chew while those at the bottom of the economic ladder continue to suffer. The apamwamba pretend to speak for the poor, when in fact they do so to keep the financial faucet open (they get hundreds of thousands in donations).

  20. My opinion is that the government must meet all necessary steps by convening a stake holders meeting and also to dialogue with top leadership in Western Province and not making arrests. The government must find out where the powers are coming from for this continuation of these guys. Treason! is not going to serve us anything because when people are fighting for there rights always blood shade is seen and even when you arrest them, you don’t know what is deep inside the area. King Lewanika could be cheating while he deep down he knows where he is heading to.

    • Mr/Miss/Mrs Fwalanga please check the internet and search for Barotse land. have these people claimed the land from Angola, Congo,Zimbabwe and Caprivi. Why is it that it is only the Lozi Crying out and not the Lamba, Kaonde, Lunda, Luvale, Chokwe, Mbunda, Tshona, tswambo because all these were in so called Barotse land

  21. It is true but you should get to the bottom of their speeches when they are in parliament. You must always listen from the Parliament radio everyday when they are debating. You shall know the language used. Those that are in the ruling party like Wina and the other, do not talk but are their as spies to give the Westerners whatever is happening. They made noise that is why the president said “I will give a university”, the went on noise “I will give a stadium”. Look at North-westerners who are the sheep ready to be slaughtered, what have the government promised them? NOTHING MADALA not even ka road kamaka.

  22. These are not facts. The real issue is that which the state knows well. I have said earlier on that K.K. ruled closer to 30 years and he knows better about this issue. Ask him why he used to differ with late Nalumino Mundia? What lead to him having a broken arm? He is quiet and no one is trying to interview him on this issue. You journalist must oneday call him especially the Muvi TV for an interview on your media so that people get the first hand information than what you are talking of. Many people are young and do not know what the promises were.

  23. The People agitating for Barotse land do not know what they are crying for. The British illegally demacated a large Chunk as Barotse land so that they could take Copper. if you check from the internet you will see a Map streching from Livingstone along the Line of rail through Lusaka, Copperbelt taking Part of Congo, Angola, Caprivi and Zimbabwe back to Livingstone. Have these guys made their claims in all the sorrounding countries?

  24. NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY RB TOOK THAT STANCE.
THERE ARE SO MANY TRIBES IN WESTERN PROVINCE OTHER THAN LOZI AND THEY ARE NOT PART OF THE ROT. IF THERE SHOULD BE A BAROTSE STATE, IT SHOULD BE FORMULATED IN SUCH A WAY THAT ALL TRIBES SHOULD BE IN AGREEMENT. IF SAY MAJORITY OF KAOMA VOTE AGAINST, THEN THEY REMAIN IN ZAMBIA.
I SEE BAROTSE STATE BEING A SMALL FRACTION IN THE END. THEY SHOULD NOT DREAM ABOUT TAKING UP ALL TOWNS SHOWN BY THEIR ” MAP” AS PEOPLE IN THOSE AREAS ARE CIVILIZED ENOUGH TO SECEDE.

    • That is why Dip Sticks are good because they come up with truths after the analysis of things. Barotse land… the outside world can not go there because there is nothing. the Govt is just trying to help by doing the imposible. eg making a tared road in the sand. making a Universty in the swamp, can not grow ground nuts therefore just grow cashew nuts. probably Kapiri Glass will go there. and some brick making company. may be we can build more houses because there could be no charge on sand. export some sand to Lusaka. like Kasama stone. instead of trying to bring war. is it because SATA is not bringing any war and barotse people want to induce it. Ukana lubata ku ina hande.

    • WHEN LPM WAS PRESIDENT, THIS ISSUE WAS DOWN PLAYED. ITS A TRIBAL MATTER. JUST BECAUSE H.E. MCS IS BEMBA, THEN THIS ISSUE COMES UP!!! ITS NOTHING BUT TRIBAL POLITICS WHICH HAS NO ROOM IN OUR HISTORY.

POLITICIANS ALSO NEED TO BALANCE MATTERS AND BE SENSITIVE IN THE MANNER NATIONAL ISSUES ARE HANDLED.

WESTERN PROVINCE IS PART OF ALL OF US. IT CAN NEVER BE TAKEN AWAY FROM ZAMBIA. POLITICIANS PROMISING THIS AND THAT BEFORE THEY BECOME PRESIDENTS MUST KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT COMMITTING ZAMBIA BUT ARE DOING SO IN THEIR PERSONAL CAPACITY. ITS UP TO AFFECTED PEOPLE TO AGREE AND VOTE FOR THEM OR NOT.

      ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION KWAMANA!!!

  25. MR PRESIDENT,,CAN YOU PLS SEE TO IT THAT THOSE QUACKS MAKING IT DIFFICAULT FOR YOU TO RULE ARE CAGED WITH LIFE SENTENCE

  26. The issue of Barotseland is sensitive. I see it spliting Zambia back to Barotseland and Northen Rhodesia (which will retain the name Zambia). The BA 64 is clear. It has terms and conditions. Northern Rhodesia representative at the time (Kaunda) abbrogated this agreement in 1969. This is the Lozis bone of contention and also the Rodger Chongwe Tribunal recommendation. The Rodger Chongwe tribnal recommended that the BA64 must be restored. They saw the problem the continued abbrogation would cause. What we seeing now is what Rodger Chongwe trying to avoid. Internationally these guys have a solid case!!

    • Diplomacy is for civilized minds. The Zambian government is clearly playing the ostrich that buries its head in the sand for the storm to pass.

  27. MundiaM you are a cantankerous nicompoop!!You must stop insulting the bembas because they did not put you in the condition you are in.Even if you were to be given your barotseland you can fail to govern yourselves with this kind of thinking!!In any case the bembas that are in Mongu are very few compared to the Lozis that are everywhere else in Zambia. You would actually be shocked that the economy of Mongu would colapse completely if other tribes left. You cannot sustain an economy on sand and fish!!Stop dreaming and think seriously about the implications of western provice separating from the rest of Zambia.Have you also started demontrations in Namibia and Angola where Barotseland apparently stretches into?IAM CHALLEGING YOU TO PUBLISH THE BAROTSELAND MAN NOW OR SHUT UP!!

  28. Barotsish or Zambian? International human anc constitutional lawyers will have a field day in court. My advice is, let’s dialigue, dialogue and dialogue. The activists may have point. First the issue of citizenship will have to be settled, before the treason daydreaming can take the courts’ precious time on an errand of idiocy.

  29. It is not easy, you will make a lot of arrests but you must understand that arrest are just part of training and when they come out they others will join. PF thought MMD was wrong was a party of hate when releasing the 27. But now is more than double 27+27+2= 56. Can you release them now?

  30. Just becoz u have enlisted former rebels from Angola n u suddenly think u r greater than Zambia?Pliz grow up n don’t start advocating wat u dont understand…It is a folly 4 u to think that Western province will become a paradise wen u start ruling yourselves…There is no guarantee that ur leaders wont steal from u or mistreat u o b corrupt!!
The Litunga aint saying much coz he knows that he has investments in Lusaka n not Mongu, just like many other tribesmen of yours! The only key 2 bringing development there is wen u change ur attitude n welcome the pipo u call Manyukunyuku coz they gat the money n ideas which u mite b lacking

    • At least they will rule and mismanage themselves. And one can be Soutrh African with booming businesses in the UK.

  31. They never signed with those before, what is wrong today if Bortseland claims Western, Copperbelt, Northwesten, Central and Southern provinces to be under it? This will lessen the issues of tribalism in Zambia. I am not for the idea but the Leadership has neglected some of these provinces in terms of development with reasons known to themselves.

  32. @ mike,
You are right. Rodger Chongwe commission of inquiry is very important but how the government has given it a deaf ear after wasting tax-payers money, you can not understand. What was the purpose of this enquiry then?
Ignoring Chongwe Commission will continue making many arrests on this matter as long as issues are not solved amicably.

  33. I HAVE GOOGLED THE MAP OF BAROTSELAND AND IT INCLUDES PARTS OF ANGOLA,NAMIBIA,BOTSWANA AND ZIMBABWE!! IF THESE GUYS ARE SERIOUS ABOUT CREATING THEIR OWN STATE THEY SHOULD ALSO APPROACH ANGOLA,NAMIBIA,BOTSWANA AND ZIMBABWE AND DEMAND THEIR LAND OTHERWISE THEY SHOULD JUST FORGET ABUT CREATING BAROTSELAND!!

    • Boundary and statehood are two different things. The state of Zambia still has an unresolved boundary issue with the state of Malawi, and so does Malawi with Tanzania, recently independent South Sudan with North Sudan. The Barotseland issue at hand is one of statehood and not boundary. Technically speaking, when Kaunda abrogated the BA 64, Barotseland became a stateless nation. This is why the Rodger Chongwe Commission’s recommendation to restore the BA 64 makes sense.

  34. It is true that there is more to this than meets the eye! If you look at the Africa, Zambia forms part of the most peaceful countries in this region. Similar forces that lead to the destabilisation of countries such as the Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, etc. is definitely at play in this situation, where some indigenous people are incited & convinced to rise up in hatred (sometimes violence) against their fellow countrymen in exchange for monetary gains!!! There is a Puppet Master playing these puppets !!! The President must ACT SOONER rather than LATER!! Intelligence must do their jobs!!

  35. People, dont talk of western prov. as not being developed because it has been side lined. All the western province ex-minister where busy building in lsk while their bemba counterpart was busy developing their own muchinga province! your learned lozi chaps are also suppossed to develop western province.do not wait for kolwestan to develop shangombo for you. thats a sign of dullness. mwali itemwa sana ba if colour.

  36. Western Province is under developed because of
    1. It is difficult to get land – even Lozis themselves
    2. All investors want a place where their investment is sequcure – right now we are creating an impression to out side world that that part of zambia is not safe.
    3. Rich Lozi are fighting for dual citizenship and not champion projects to accelarate development.
    4. There are more rich Lozis in Lusaka and CB with big farms who do not help back home.
    5. Lozis organising this fight are out side the country and dont care about the damage

  37. This is the reason why state should punish these people whether they are a million also to avoid confusion. They want to rule by force God forbid. Regards

  38. The problem is not with the Zambian government its with themselves.only people from the loyal family do have access to own land not subjects this has brought insecurity.most lozis are slaves in their own land and no wonder some lozis opt to stay in other provinces for fear of boctimised in their own soil.

  39. what I see here is like parents are fighting in the bedroom for reasons best know by them, and now the children outside with the little idea, start blaming there father or there mother for the fight. am sure there must be a reason why the baroziz are insisting on this, and am sure the govt is un comfortable with this issue. if loziz were doing the wrong thing, this issue was going to be over by now.
I really wonder what is behind this.
