Share

Rainford Kalaba has made the final cut for the 2013 CAF African-based player award shortlist.

Kalaba is one of five players in contention for the best player based on the continent award to be handed out on January 9 in Lagos.

The TP Mazembe midfielder made the final shortlist alongside his club mate Tresor Mputu after inspiring the DR Congo club to the finals of the 2013 CAF Confederation Cup.

Mazmebe lost that two legged final 3-2 on aggregate to CS Sfaxien of Tunisia after winning 2-1 in the final leg in Lubumbashi on November 30.

2012 African-based player holder Mohammed Aboutreika of Egypt has also made the shortlist after inspiring Al Ahly to an unprecedented eighth African club champions’ crown.

Kalaba and compatriot Stopilla Sunzu who did not get the nod this time around were nominated in 2012 but lost out to Aboutreika.

Meanwhile, Aboutreika’s club mate Ahmed Fathy too is vying for this year’s honours.

Nigerian midfielder and 2013 Africa Cup winning star Sunday Mba of NPL side Warri Wolves completes the roll for the title.

    • Kalaba is a very very clean player, I have never heard of him getting a yellow card. But Tresor Mputu is completely opposite, he records alot of yellow cards, if referee makes mistake of a red card, then the all match is over… Tresor just run after referees. With all put into considerations,
      KALABA is the best player.

    • Which players are good in SA? The brand and sytle of football in SA has to change……..For youSA, ISHIBOBO & SAMAYAS is your football….no one counts this type!

  1. Kalaba is not just a betrayer but chief of betrayer. If its a movie,he could have been the main actor in Mailoni killer film.Any way, good luck mune Kalaba Mailoni. We will forgive you when you say even just ka word ‘sorry’.
