President Michael Sata has told the people of Vubwi the people in the area had a choice of remaining in poverty with the opposition or embrace the ruling party and its government in order to develop the area.

The President was speaking at a public rally in Vubwi district yesterday when he and he introduced Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Margaret Miti in the forth coming parliamentary by-elections.
The Vubwi by- elections have been necessitated by the nullification by the Supreme Court of the seat initially held by Eustarckio Kazonga from the MMD on grounds of corruption.

He however noted that although the government was already taking development to the new district, more could be done if PF had its MPs in the area unlike now when it has only one in the entire province.

The head of state challenged Ms Miti to represent the people effectively once elected into office and pledged his government’s support towards development programme.

And Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe said that President Michael Sata is a sincere and original leader who has demonstrated a strong desire to defend the poor and develop Zambia.

Mr Munkombwe said President Sata had proved that he was ready to improve the lives of the majority Zambians by addressing many problems and putting more money in people’s pockets.

The Vubwi by- elections have been necessitated by the nullification by the Supreme Court of the seat initially held by Eustarckio Kazonga from the MMD on grounds of corruption.

“When you are dealing with this man, you are not dealing with a gongá (fake) politician,” Mr Munkombwe said amid jubilations from hundreds of people that braved the heat to attend the rally at Vubwi Primary School.

“This man is original; he is defending the poor and putting more money in people’s pocket, so let us support him by voting for the PF candidate.”

Education Minister John Phiri said at the same rally that the development activities taking place was unprecedented thanks to the wise leadership of President Sata.

Apart from being upgraded into a district, Vubwi’s status has been enhanced with the Chipata-Vubwi Road currently under construction as well as infrastructure development for district administration.

“Not only that, Mbande Primary School is being upgraded to secondary school while Chigwe and Mbozi Primary schools will also be upgraded to secondary school in 2014, and the only way thank the President is by voting for PF,” Prof Phiri said.

The President had earlier travelled by road from Chipata to the new district in his quest appreciate the tarring of the 70-kilomemter stretch.

He made a stopover at Paramount Chief Mpezeni’s palace before being welcomed at Vubwi Primary School by several traditional leaders from Vubwi and Chadiza including chief Mulolo and Chief Mwangala.

Apart from Prof Phiri, the head of state was accompanied by, Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu, Local Government Minister Emerine Kabanshi, Eastern Province Minister Malozo Sichone and other government and PF officials.

  1. This man is sick indeed, was he even supposed to be campaigning during his declared 7 days of national mourning. I hear the First lady was also busy attending wedding celebrations last night. What a messed up first family, do they even know what National Mourning entails? Gid help us, no wonder father Bwalya keep saying you are embarrasing the name Zambia.

    • Ignore such drivel it is all tavern nonsense. Development comes from our taxes and not PF. Development is not a preserve of PF. Luapula is 99% PF why its poor? Copperbelt like Northern province with PF MPs are all poor.

    • I thought vubwi, malambo and petauke central election issues are still before the court,, therefore no one should be campaigning!!

wow!!! am watching the mandela`s funeral live,,, malawi`s joyce band has stolen the show,.. shocking!!!! that Zambia is sidelined,, Ethopia and Tanzania are acknowledged quite strange,,, i have seen muzungu opusa in the crowd though,, i thought the chap was in kenya at the jubilee

    • Can someone PLEASE tell me why Sata is NOT at Mandela’s funeral? why has he snubbed someone well respected like Mandela?Other southern african presidents are there and Zambia was supposed to be there. This man who we voted is not representing us.He doing things at his own interest and pleasure.Campaigning when he is supposed to be in QUNU.

    • besides, why go campaigning when the case is still under the courts of law? this is being sick indeed. the pf cadres support anything as long as it is pf, they are 1diots

    • Ndobo stop cheating people. Zambia hasnt been sidelined. I’m also watching BBC. KK has spoken and the old man taken up more time than anyone else.

    • I hope someone will petition this vubwi by election(once cleared by the courtsfor pending case) because Sata’s statement = corruption. The people can not vote fairly and freely after the head of state and determiner of govt spending threatens them that they will remain in poverty if they vote for the opposition. This is intimidation.May the supreme courts apply the same law of corruption on this case also.

    • @Mr Bean
Am not talking about the BBC editorial..Am sure BBC is also praising your Sata as one of the best president in africa today,,
Am talking what happened at the funeral

    • There is nothing wrong in that with or without that National mourning life must continue.Only a pagan will remain crying forever, then what are we going to eat if we continued to mourn forever?Kulosha no kulya no ku bomba bane….and Jesus said to the people of Galilee……why are still looking above? Christ is gone…..Mwebena Galilee ala punamukeni Kristu nasendwa.

    • Eat this haters. Sata attended funeral. If one was in Chipata yesterday it does not that he can not get to SA today. Have u heard of a plane? KK spoke, he was prez when ANC lived in Zambia. do your homework m****** mwe!

    • Michael Sata let me tell you that Lesa ni Malyotola. First you lose your erections you decide to campaign for over all funerals.
An evil man Sata, look at that picture with a gunman about to execute Shuma.

    • Kodi imwe ba Ndobo chizungu muchiziba? I haven’t referred to any BBC editorial. The BBC reviewed what happened at the funeral and with their guest talked about what role Kaunda and Zambia played in SA’s liberation. As for what you’re sure about: the BBC will praise Sata as one of the best presidents in your dreams

    • Sata should be serious with whatever he says. How does he easily forget that it is only under three years ago his PF was in opposition. If Zambians had not voted for the opposition, would he be in Government to day?

Come 2016,Zambians will vote for opposition if he continues to take people for granted.

  2. This is indeed very unbecoming. How does the President declare 7 days of National mourning, only to proceed on a campaign trail ? This President is indeed not normal. Hey, Zambians we have a very big problem .

  3. Sata had no heart for Mandela:
-he did not want to attend the funeral
-he reluctantly declared 7 days national mourning 3 days after Mandela’s death
-he diluted the national mourning by going to campaign rally

  4. Sorry people, I had to come out of blogging retirement on this one. I am just watching live the funeral of Mandela and I saw Malawi President Joyce Banda deliver a tribute , also watching Kikwete of Tanzania delivering the tribute and the way he was introduced was awesome and Tanzania’s role in the struggle exhorted.

Zambia played a major role and as a matter of fact, Mandela’s first trip abroad was Zambia. Surely shouldn’t Sata have been there to deliver a tribute in person at this occasion? Shouldn’t Zambia’s role have been heard by the world audience?

Now I come here all I see is the president doing his campaigning. What kind of a leader do we have? Vubwi by-election is still in court in fact. ..Am shocked!!

    • To add more salts to your wounds my dear , Guy Scott is there and he is not going to speak because Zuma has moved to the podium as the last speaker. Besides South African would not allow a white vice president of Zambia who insulted them not too long ago speak. I think for me this is a national scandal and disaster. Indeed Zambia has missed out and been embarrassed again. Can’t wait to hear what Mwansa Kapeya will say on this one

    • @MMD Chief Bootlicker
welcome back man… no need to be sorry,, your coming back is for a good and importance cause, just dont go into retirement yet!!
we have a case of emperor`s clothes… people around the president are not telling him that he is not clothed, and worse off the president himself believes he is clothed in invisible clothes when in fact he is naked

    • Even KK who is best fitted to pay tribute to Madiba, has his head clutched between his hands. Of Countries being mentioned that were sympathetic to ANC & Madiba, Northern Rhodesia was only mentioned once by Jikaya Kikwete as a passage route which Mandela used when heading to Dar es Salaam in 1962.
Conclusion: Zambia has no Political will and Diplomacy at regional and International level. These are the fruits of having cadres in the Pretoria High Commission! EMBARASSING!!!

    • My observation is that in so many things Zambia is like the jack rabbit that pops out and then stops to snooze while the slow and steady plod along. There are so many things we have simply let go of thinking that we have created residual glory. I doubt very much if any successful man will tell you they stopped working when they realized they had made it! We need to learn something from this silent tsunami we are creating for ourselves on the international scene. Perhaps, too, we need to know exactly what is going on on our political scene in any case; could be something beneath this iceberg.

    • This is the kind of mediocrity that Zambians, mostly Bembas, chose own their own and at their own will!! Worse is still coming from that Stu.pid Old man with rotten teeth, SataN!

    • The reason Sata finds it difficult to attend to freedom fighters and those that fought for their countries independence is because he did not do so for this country when RB and his young friends were fighting he was a colonial policeman he feel ashamed for not having that history in the struggle.

  5. Our leaders are busy politicking when other heads of state are well representing Africa, Zambia has missed out an opportunity to put her history and recognition of Zambia’s participation in South Africa’s liberation. This is an event that will never take place again.

  6. Chief, i’m also watching it and the tribute by Presidents Joyce Banda and Kiwete leaves our perpetually absent Sata without a place of relevancy in Sata and Africa as a whole.

  7. that’s the problem wen you vote for a dick head to head and lead the nation.he already knows that the courts and the judiciary is compromised thts why he can abrogate the rule of law at anytime.Zambians you are very good at talking and criticizing but wen it comes to real issues of the ballots its the opposite.the same people who are busy insultn him are the first ones to cast that vote for him.so please leave the man alone and continue living your lives.HE IS INDEED A SICK MAN VERY SICK MAN

  8. Unfortunate statement that is largely unwarranted. Poor show of leadership and inability to exercise tolerance, blaming the electorate for not selecting you as their preferred candidate. Honestly, as you have governed, quite alright we have seen some of your positive attributes but it must be stated that in other critical areas, we sure have missed your predecessor’s qualities.

  9. What a cheap shot just for a vote by this loser. This is why Mrs Banda and Kikwete stole the show and were applauded bcoz i guess S.A doesn’t want cheap embarrassment from Sata.

  10. i think this is insenstivity by our head of state. more so that we are morning and it is you who declared the period

    • but that is not the mandela`s spirit… posiliblities are that the Zambian high commission staffs in pretoria are too sleepy..and muzungu opusa cant be allowed because ni opusa

    • The Stapler, that very statement illustrates to me why religious people kill in the name of religion when that very religion speaks against it. Madiba would have not liked any gesture indicating or even insinuating what you have just stated here.

  11. Sata is an embarrassment to Zambia. Tanzania, Ethiopia and Malawi have stolen the show and Zambia’s sacrifices have not been recognised.

  12. Mr sata those are not your personal resources ,that you should black-mail electorates with.

Its tax payers money not your money, even the loans you are getting, they are our burdens not yours.

  13. This is an old tired political lie told too many times by the MMD, and now the PF are still using it. The sad thing is that most voters don’t see through this political lie. How many constituencies under the ruling party are out of poverty?

  14. Relief, KK take to the podium in an UNSCHEDULED address and great to see Zambia Acknowledged.. I still maintain though that

    1) Sata should have been there
    2) Sata Should not have gone on a campaign trail when he declared national mourning
    3) Sata is breaking the law by campaigning in a area whose case is in court

Therefore, there is something questionable about his judgement and civility and I would not blame those saying he is embarrassing the nation and not call them haters. Do you PF cadres think what your leader is doing is civil, acceptable and great at this hour?

    • JUST TO ADD ON
is it his money he is using to develop their constituency OR ITS THE TAX PAYERS MONEY and how many pf constituencies are under developed?he is talking as if he is using his filthy money from his dirty pockets.RUBBISH

  15. I think we mat be asking too much from the president. Playing or delivering a meaningful speech at that level is just beyond him. He is just not capable. I suppose in a big way we as a country let ourselves down when we collectively voted for him, regardless of who voted, but he had the numbers. We should realize that it takes a lot to be president, certain skill s are crucial. Unfortunately, our president doesn’t have those skill s. He had to go and do what he knows best, in his comfortable Z campaigns, not at the big world stage.. it’s beyond him

  16. Sata is more at home surrounded by people that will worship him and not question whatever comes out of his mouth. Ask the people of Mansa if the flash toilets he promised them have started being seen in the area. He went and told them what they wanted to hear, they fell for it, they gave him the vote and he forgot about them. That is his modus operandi.

  17. Iam crying and crying out loud. am watching madiba’s burial and whole leaders worth there name have congregated in south africa but our empty head we call president is nowhere to be seen.its a tragedy

  18. Looks like you Zambians are desperate for global attention. No amount of grandstanding will get you out of your poverty. Just focus on working not on theatrics

    • Imagine. As Zambia’s leader during South Africa’s liberation struggle, I personally think KK deserves to speak on behalf of Zambia than president Sata. In any case, Mandela’s funeral should not be used as an event for gaining presidential profile and global attention.

    • @Bee Sting
its not desperation… but Zambia deserves to be written down in south african history and respectful acknowledged… it just a fair pay back
Zambia homed ANC Headquaters when all other countries in the world feared and were threaten,,, ANC was viewed as a terrorist group to many but Zambia still housed them!!
I for one lived next door to some south african family,, there was always a threat the boers from will come and bomb us together with them,, and alot of innocent unarmed zambians died in the process…

  19. Well done KK our wiseman but that Boer saying I could see anger in you. Forgive seventy seven times. Otherwise well done sir

    • The use of the word boer was in very bad taste and out of place. It upset many people and Kaunda needs to be reminded that South Africans have moved on as a united nation. Kaunda the dictator remains bitter since being kicked out by the multiparty revolution of the early 90’s.

  20. Only those that do not understand the history here will keep crying, His Ex MCS did delegate the former head of state Dr. KDK to attend and represent Zambia as you maybe aware that Dr. KDK was part and parcel of the release of the late Nelson from prison (MHSRIP), do you remember at Intercontinental Livingstone? that meeting was a one of its kind with the South African authorities, so stop crying for nothing, let Dr. KDK represent Zed, all the best!

  21. some 1diots baffle me. the entire grand father with the grand children watching, kneels before his fellow men and not before God? this culture of kneeling is stupid and rubbish indeed. from now on, people should not vote in those 1diots who make fake confessions to fellow men

  22. Watching the funeral proceedings for Madiba it was embarrassing to see Kenneth Kaunda behaving like a circus clown, running to the podium and giving a long speech and repeatedly using the word boers instead of a vote of thanks befitting the ocassion. He forgot that Mandela never used the word boers after his release but stood for reconciliation and nation buliding. Kaunda had to be stopped for taking too long and being irrelevant, what an embarrassment. What more if it had been Sata.

  23. I’m surprised that many dogs are just barking bo!!
bo!boo!!!bo!. My live dog is even better than Madiba because it is aware that it will die. No matter whatever your words what has remained is between him and the creator man!. Attending a funeral to make a noun is not important. Ati balilandilepo pa cililo atase bushe balya baliko did they bring him back. Ever since he died taipushapo na cup ya Zikolo.

  24. What will it profit Zambia if the President had attend the funeral of Mandela, knowing very well that we sacrificed a lot in material and financial assistance for South Africa and what have we received in return, at this age and time very few South Africans recognize our contribution to their freedom. The main reason the President went to Eastern Province is to inspect the road under construction from Chipata to Vumbwi.

    • They recognized KK contribution. Tanzanian contribution.
How you want them to recognize Zambian contribution when a person representing Zambia is busy politicking on campaign trail during National Mourning?

    • On the other hand, which Citizen of “Christian Nation” can choose death and funeral of a GIANT and most RESPECTED freedom fighter in the world as the time to propagate his own “contribution”?
Only a brainless supporter of the democratic non-entities.

  25. Well, I just feel disgusted by this kneeling business. This is just mocking the poor rural people of Vubwi who, out of ignorance of the meaning of democracy, might be be scared that indeed the government will deny them development if they do not vote for a PF candidate. This trick still works in some areas of Zambia. Just how many people in rural areas know how the government operates, the purpose of national plans, the budget and how, every Zambian, regardless of political affiliation, pays taxes which money is used to develop every part of the country.
Anyway, it is up to the opposition campaigners to explain these things to the humble (educationwise) people of Vubwi. But does God bless such tricks??

  26. ……….and the totting of guns. Are we at war? Are we at war? These guns are intimidating, really and it only makes the kneeling more of a mockery.

  27. This Old ba.stard SataN is really a disgrace! He is so vindictive that he has chosen not to attend Madiba’s funeral because he was caught ready handed with US Dollars he trying to launder in South Africa!
This is the mediocrity Zambians…actually Bembas chose to rule us out of their Tribalism!!

  28. For those of us who worked in sensitive depts we know the role President Kaunda play in liberating our fellow brothers and sisters in the southern region and the price that Zambians paid for making Zambia as a second home for Our brothers and sisters. Chamba valley the ZAF Hqs was the home for Mbeki and other senior ANC leaders because bombing ZAF could have been seen as declaring war. National service came about in late 70s due to the struggle for independence for Southern Africa. In case KK is better placed to represent zambia .

  29. Am ashamed that we could not be be represented at an important occasion such as Mandela’s funeral? Am sure this will affect our international relation especially in our region. Does it mean President Joyce, Kikwete and the like are not busy presidents, what are they thinking about Sata’s way of leadership? what about South Africa, we’ll we have a good relationship with them after this?Considering that the funeral happened in the SADC, this must have been regarded as our funeral, even in our communities, when our neighbor has a funeral, we actually sleep at the funeral. No! the opposition, the church and NGO’s must condemn this unhearted spirit. I will not be surprised to see the post support this bad behavior.

    • It is called “protocol”. When one aspires to occupy a position such as that of President, he/she should expect to attend events such as this and more so to network with people at the same level. The guy is such a coward that you need to go very far to remember the last time he attended a meeting of such a nature. He should be able to mix with the “Obamas” and “Camerons” but alas he chooses to go to Eastern province. Makes me wonder who is petty.

    • Imwe bantu Zambia was well represented. The Vice president was there just like China was represented by its Vice too.

  30. DONT WORRY MAYBE YOUR HH WILL REPRESENT ZAMBIA AT MADIBA’S MEMORIaL IN THE YEAR 6013. WE UNDERSTAND THAT IT HAS BEEN VERY PAINFUL FOR YOU TO LOSE THE 2011 POLLS.

  31. SATA IS VERY SICK, THAT’S WHY HE FAILED TO ATTEND THE BURIAL OF MADIBA ,THE COMPAIGN ISSUE IS SIMPLY A COVERUP HE WOULD HAVE COLLAPSED

  32. I heard him say that when there were by elections in mufumbwe but to date nothing has happened, he even lied that he will construct 6 RHCs but today he has gone to vubwi with the same lies again……….doesn’t this big man feel ashamed of his lies sure?

  33. It is wrong and unconstitutional for the President to say development can only go to areas with MPs from the ruling party. Zambia is a multiparty democracy and people are free to whoever they want.
