Former Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Executive Director, Bishop Paul Mususu has observed that the increase in road accidents in the country can partly be attributed to corruption in the enforcement of road safety regulations.

Bishop Mususu said driver’s licensesare issued to people who may not be qualified to be on the road.Bishop Mususu told Qfm in an interview that even in instances where some drivers are caught drinking and driving, they are left scot free due to corruption.

He said that as long as corrupt officers are not dealt with, it is difficult to reduce the accidents.

Bishop Mususu said drivers should not be allowed to endanger people’s lives through over speeding, drinking and driving and overloading.

He regreted that many lives have been lost due to road accidents and implored Zambians to observe road safety rules.

  1. Look at the long grass where the accident happened. How do drivers see afar with such grass? Stop night driving for buses. Goods trucks can be allowed to travel.

    • @ wanzelu

      I totally agree with you.

The absence of the of road markings dividing lanes is in itself a road safety hazard.
You see this road safety feature among others missing on all the roads in Zambia. why?

Whats wrong with the Zambian thinking? why don’t we do good things for ourselves? when we do a road, it has to have everything that make its usable and safe not just burying potholes with bitumen alone.

Zambians must change their mindset or will eternal wallow in poverty in the midst of plenty

  2. Narrow roads,no signs. Our leaders fly over us ,tapali bafishibe. But they visit countries such as Botswana,Namibia..even small swaziland can boast of well-marked roads ,the highway from the main border to Manzini is well-lit.Very impressive.

  3. This is one of the most sensible argument i have ever heard, even though it lacks empirical evidence… It needs to be tested academically by investigating the state of the car vehicles in accidents and whether passed a check point… NOT the Sacrifice rubbish…

  4. Too much corruption when giving drivers license. Don’t rule out the issue of Satanism. This country needs prayers than never before. Infact we should not blame Ratsa or any one.We know people involved in this act devils!

    • Then why do countries like Sweden and Norway have low deaths through accidents.

The Bishop is right. I remember when i was replacing my lost drivers licence, we were four in the car during the exam. the three guys passed, though their driving was terrible! Couldn’t properly drive in the right gear according to the corresponding speed, car kept stalling, it was bad! they had no idea of rules and the like one, even forgot to stop at a stop sign. But they are now licenced, and they are on the road. Anyone who has gone through the right procedure and done things the right way, can easily be detected by good driving. This satanism nonsense is thinking iya ku village, where utulumba strike in June….and even the points raised, no road markings, poor roads, zed is in shambles!!!!

  5. .. Speaking of tall grass, HH and other unexistance inssues is nonsense. The road has no potholes, well tared. MY OBSERVATION is that the road has long straight runs stretching more than 3-4km, this make drivers fall asleep on the wheels. In addition drink driving is a factor in most accidents.

  6. Three causes of accidents either the machine (vehicle) failure, bad road , driver behaviour. Think in those lines and ask why each happen and continue asking many whys in as much detail as possible you wil find the answers. If you get an answer ask again why that happen till your blow.

You will find the solution and in Zambia the soulution to that may be impractical due to many factors, politics, poor planning, corruption, lazinessnes, carelessness, lack of vision, lack of seriousness, just for a salary work attitude, wrong workers , lack of onwership etc

  7. this is just negligence and lack of proper political will.. these roads dont have any marking , no lighting ,grass is not cut.. you need cyborg glasses to drive at night. I drove at night one day after coming from the states , its like been in a twilight movie. governmnt should find a way to introduce perfomance based contracts for its employees. someone somewere is not doing ther job because they think its the next persons job but they still want to get get paid and demand for higher salaries..every year

    • matrix apa pena na chonga answer yobe 100%. If you can also explain performance chakuti iyo ulembele nefyo goverment yi ga bomfya. Explain as though you are teaching my illiterate grand mother in the village maybe someone will listen and implement.

  8. It is very difficult to advance a coherent argument when the playing (in this case the driving) field is not level. There are too many factors involved here so we cannot simplistically say it is corruption and one or a couple others. We need to ensure that even areas where i.d.i.o.t-proofing is required are taken care of before we start apportioning blame or drawing conclusions.

  9. Guys, Zambia needs bakateka baba siriasi, ifwuma fwaba muchalo ubwingi but you can’t buy pent for a white line on the road.

  10. Corruption I agree with all people.Secondly road markings.Tall grass on edge of the road in highways.I almost went off the road when kalulu the HARE came abruptly on the road from the bush upon seeing the lights during night time drive.Gentle men the best is to engage part time contractor to cut grass as it use to be in UNIP Government sometime back. This time around you cannot even see anything because of over grown grass a more especially on curves or even on very clear areas of the roads.
