MMD PARTY POSITION ON THE CONSTITUTION
The MMD considers the constitution making process as a sacred exercise which should result in giving Zambians a constitution which works for them and is a product of their collective wisdom as a people.
The MMD in government initiated the process of constitution making by creating a legal framework that birthed the National Constitutional Conference. The MMD completed the process and took the bill to parliament, only to be thrown out by the then opposition led by the Patriotic Front.
Prior to the 2011 election, the PF promised Zambians to deliver the constitution within 90 days of forming government. It is now more than 800 days later and the constitution is more illusive now than it was in 2011.
In view of the recent statements coming from the President and the Minister of Justice, it is now clear to all Zambians that the constitution will not be given to Zambians without a fight. The president has stated recently that there will be no referendum and a new constitution is not necessary since we already have a constitution which is not animal driven. This is an insult to those Zambians who voted for the PF on the promise of constitutional delivery.
The minister of Justice has continued to mock Zambians by saying that Zambians don’t care about the constitution but all they need are roads and clinics.
In view of the above, the MMD wishes to congratulate the galant efforts of the combined opposition in the house to demand for the constitution. We support all efforts by our MPs to force the PF to Honour their promise.
This is not a partisan matter and must be approached as a national emergency by all Zambians. No political party should attempt to make political mileage out of this serious development. We all must work together with Political parties, Civil Society, NGOs , the Church and Students.
MMD has adopted “SUSTAINED RESISTANCE TO GOVERNMENT’S POSITION ON THE CONSTITUTION”
We shall fight government in the house and outside the house in a sustainable manner until the constitution is delivered. We wish to advise all Zambians to brace themselves for a long and protracted fight for the constitution. The good news is that, We shall overcome.

The Pressure is REAL, and ALL well meaning Zambians MUST support the move by the Opposition MPs, Civil soceity Organisations, Churches and others to demmand for a constitution NOW, 90 days is long gone.
In its current state the constitution can be manipulated by those in power for their advantage i.e. freedom of assembly, the presss etc being curtailed as witnessed in PF. So need a better one now not tomorrow. If Dr Matibini is cuts or deducts the opposition MPs’ allowances, he & PF MPs must equally not be paid because they are also not working. Pay is not determined by willingness to work but by actually work itself. No pay to all in Parley. Truth is that you failed to deliver the constitution as you were afraid of the 50+1 clause , the presidential running mate among others.
Men of Honour must aspire to do good when it is within their abilities to do so. it was within MMD`s abilities to give Zambia a good Constitution. your failure was deliberate.
Blaming others over matters you and your Party deliberately failed is the worst case of Hypocrisy. Please it will help matters if you gracefully kept quite.
So you wanted the MMD to force the constitution which was reject by opposition led by PF? I am not sure of your reading skills. MMD did all that can be done in the book but the opposition won.

It is suprising that MMD president can be so hypocrical, MMD failed to come up with a people driven constitution in 20yrs and you want PF to do it in two yrs. The message to the opposition is that you should understand politics, dont just import western politics into zambia without understanding the views of the people. An average zambian does not even understand the document you are talking about. To win the hearts of the people talk about issues which will convince the general public and rally behind you. Go to Shangombo or Nabwalya and talk about the constitution, no one will pay attention to what you are saying, now talk about fertilizer, hospitals, roads and farming inputs the people will easily get you message and give you a vote. You can not be a match to M Sata far from it .

It was not Nevers who was in power for twenty years. 10 of those 20 years of MMD was Sata. Have you forgotten. Sata created the discriminatory constitution with Chiluba. Nevers was not there. This is Sata, Season 3.
Nevers’ bad breath aways ruins good words. He should endervour to leave it to others to say what is to be said! How sweet these same words would have sounded coming from another opposition figure!
Nevers major preocupation at this moment is supposed to thinking of ways in which he can major by-elections loses of the MMD party. Because if he not serious the figure will reach single digit by june 2016. I see Petauke, Vubwi, Malambo and Kasenegwa going to PF this time. And a sane politician of any salt should be worried about this not the constitution.
My Nephews,Nieces,Uncles,relatives and freinds in Rural Zambia who are the majority voters are not even aware that opposition Mps shamelessly walked out of Parliament over a constitution that is not even found in their Manifestos.

the liberals say that individualist motives produces collective gud in liberal democracies, so pipo i rili dont care if political parties ar doin it for political reasons becoz the outcomes ar for da collective good! I jst hate the fact tht zambians ar cowards jst bcoz guy scott says its nt ryt tht th opposition is nt takin part in parliament but the reality is that such battles should b fought in parliament and when it results in pipo protestin then that is an indicator tht the MPS ar nt representin the pipo. what the MPS ar doin is very intellectual and tht is wht we refer 2 in I.R as soft balancing. all ths mess has bin caused by the P.F because they do not what to dialog by callin all da parties and givin rational alternatives or reason on da way 4ward bt thez folishly diploy police…

Now that’s what a presidential call sounds like, short, concise and right to the the point. This guy can lead his party to victory. It’s about talking when time is right, use of decent personality when everyone is fatigued by PF Kaponya exchanges, it’s about use of non-derogatory terms when everybody is fade up of criss-crossing insults. Nevers keep soldering, the civilised MMD army is right behind you.
