A nine-man Chinese delegation has arrived in the country to train Zambian people ahead of the 50 year jubilee celebrations.

The Chinese technical experts arrived on May 22 and would stay on up to the end of October, this year.

Zambia At 50 Chairperson, Mulenga Kapwepwe, confirmed the development to ZANIS in a statement in Lusaka today.

Ms Kapwepwe said the collaboration would result in skills transfer in choreography, lighting, sound, costume and prop design and commended the Chinese government for coming on board to help Zambia with the preparations for the commemorations.

Ms Kapwepwe said the experts would teach Zambian artists, pupils and students in mass movement performances ahead of the jubilee.

She said Zambia appreciates the efforts and contributions from the Chinese government is making in ensuring that the celebrations are a success.

“Based on the close historical ties founded on the basis of friendship, equality and mutual respect that Zambia enjoys with China, the two countries are celebrating 50 years of bilateral relations. I would like to thank the Chinese government for coming on board to help Zambia celebrate her golden jubilee,” Ms Kapwepwe said.

And Chinese Delegation leader, Wang Chao, commended the Zambian government for the warm and cordial welcome accorded to his team.

Mr Chao disclosed that his team would visit some significant sites in Zambia to acquaint themselves and help them learn more about Zambia’s rich endowed culture.

Zambia will this year celebrate its golden jubilee under the theme” Commemorating God’s favour of Zambia’s 50 year of independence for continued peace, unity, democracy, patriotism and prosperity”.

Government has lined up various activities ahead of the jubilee and it is optimistic that the celebrations would be success.

Zambia attained her independence in 1964 and turns 50 on October 24, 1964.

  1. This Jubilee is just for Panga Family and the Chinese. We are yet to celebrate our own true freedom in future

  2. Whoever came up with that theme!!!!
At 50, one would think that we would be mature enough to organise and handle our own celebrations. Why bring in the Chinese? I would rather watch Zambian dances done the Zambian way than being treated to Zambian culture with a Chinese touch. Whats wrong with our leaders kashi?

  3. It would seem that even after 50 years, we still have a need to need someone to help us.
If we needed help, I would think that we would get help from other African countries. But because someone has a vested interest [money, corruption] we are going to China to “get help”.

    We’ve won, freedom’s fight
    All one, proud and free

    • At age 50, if you still needing help from your neighbours to put your house in order, is highest example of CNP!!! This is they year we should be taking a good long look at ourselves, & promising ourselves that NEVER AGAIN to put “ba koswe” in power!!

  4. This is what Botha meant when he said black man can not rule him/herself. 90% of works in Zambia are done by white/chinese people. Roads- china , mining – china/muzungu, Illicit sex – zambia, polygamy – zambian, politics gossip – zambian, construction-china/muzungu. facebooking -zambian.

  5. Just imagine the whole Zambia (over 13m people) has no experts in choreography, lighting, sound, costume and prop design!!! It is very very sad! Even organizing a simple birthday party for Zambia is so difficult that you need “experts” from China!

    • @Namona I am pretty certain we do have all those skills but as is typical of Zambians and Afrikans (trust me I lived in several Afrikan countries before I left the continent) you ridicule your own expertise, diss them when they demand their fair price, and spit on them when you discover they are even remotely related to a tribe you hate. That, and many more reasons is why even at 100 you will call a foreign country to come and help you out with event management.

  6. You will see how good it will be. Even at 10 years old in 1974, we called the Chinese. I tell you, it was spectacular. They used 10 year old to participate. Memories are still fresh in my mind. Don’t argue, you were not there.

    • After more than forty years of initial training, Zambia should have had its own cadres of trainers either private or quasi-govt. There is no excuse at all and those with the ability seize the opportunity.

The first calisthenics spearheaded by Chinese I remember was in 1972, 8th anniversary, at which many Lusaka schools participated. The Dubrava bus
rides (UBZ) were remarkable and the lunches, it was great fun.

  7. This sounds like a very funny joke in bad taste. Calling outsiders to come in and prepare our celebration to mark 50 years of independence contradicts itself. Its a paradox and very embarrassing for our Country.

  8. Ba PF you brought local languages in schools to promote our culture…now you bring Chinese to teach us how to celebrate…!this isnt funny anymore. Promote our artists pls.Headless snakes!

  9. Madam Kapwepwe, you bring shame to the late old man by still remaining in cahoots with these PF – one can only say, you seem delusional!!

  10. How about just celebrating it in a Zambian way period,i remember I took part in the similar event in 1984 thought was fun but lost dearly with my classes,it’s a total waste of time.

  11. SO, WE STILL DID NOT LEARN FROM THE CHINESE HOW TO PREPARE OUR CELEBRATIONS AND WE ARE CALLING THEM AGAIN? WHAT A SHAME!

  12. So…………..who is to blame for backwardness…at 50 years? In life for one to attain anything, one has to work on ones attitude towards life. Why not come up with ideas, if you are so smart? Why not go for such training if you feel it will help your country?

Always playing the blame game…..Typical Zambian

    Happy 50th Jubilee!!!!!!!!

  13. Whatever u do in life u’l nid a helping hand.Organise yo own birthday party and see if u’l not help from yo friends.Tipico zambians owez blaming.
